   Summary

   It was with sadness, almost, that Beatty realized how careful Montag had thought was being, how subtle. As though Beatty wouldn't notice Mildred’s widening eyes as she felt the book behind that pillow; as though he hadn't spent that entire evening tugging and twisting at the strings that held Montag together and creating an entirely new puppet.
