Work Text:

Gossip spread around the police department quicker than fire, so when Jin heard about some punks seen under the bridge near the highway he thought it was a good idea to scare them off. He didn’t need to arrest them anyways, kids being kids, hating cops, doubting authorities and vandalizing public property. Just another normal day.

But when he pulled over on a quiet street that gave him the view of under the bridge, Jin was filled with regret. Four boys were hidden by the darkness of dusk, two of them holding a smaller one while the last boy punched him mercilessly, Jin could hear the gasps and laughter from where he stood.

Hey! ’ – he screamed, three of them looked over at him, the smaller one not moving – ‘What do you think you’re doing?! Leave the boy alone!’

The three boys stopped for a second, then the one punching – probably the leader – whispered something to the other two who nodded and threw the smaller boy on the dirty concrete floor. They ran away with heavy steps and laughter, Jin hated them already.

Jin walked down the little hill trying to not lose his balance, he flinched when he was finally close enough to judge the mess on the smaller boys body. His neck was filled with purple and yellow, he was on fetal position holding his stomach like he was ready to throw up and was shaking slightly. He hissed every now and then, Jin saw blood running from his nose and kneeled down to press his hand against the boys forehead, he was burning.

‘Hey kid, can you hear me? What’s your name?’ – asked Jin, the boy turned his face away from Jins hand and coughed.

The boy looked back to Jin, eyebrows pulled in a deep frown – ‘Yoongi.’

The cop sighed in relief – ‘Ok kid, good, I thought you were about to pass out on me.’

Yoongi coughed again, grumbled – ‘I’m tougher than that, officer .’

Ignoring the attempt to get him mad, Jin helped Yoongi to get on his feet. The boy was dizzy and could barely walk without grasping Jin’s uniform. He ended up picking Yoongi up and carrying him bridal style to his car – still trying to not trip over some loose rock – ignoring Yoongis protests of ‘ I can walk by myself ’ and ‘ I’m no damsel in distress, goddamnit!

So there Jin was, sitting on the front seat of the car with a pissed off kid on the back, who was also bleeding and filled with bruises, what a scene , he thought.

Jin looked at the rearview mirror and stared at Yoongi, head tilted up, two fingers pressed against the nosebleed trying not to stain his clothes even more, Jin sighed.

‘Alright, Yoongi, you gotta tell me exactly why those guys were beating you up under a bridge at night.’ – he pulled his eyes away from the boys reflection and turned around to face him – ‘What are you? A drug dealer?’

Yoongi didn’t answer right away, he turned his head down and cleaned his bloody fingers on the seat next to him, Jin tried not to flinch.

‘If I were a drug dealer, I wouldn’t tell you, cop.’ – he said calmly, not sounding like someone who was getting his soul beaten out of him just a few minutes ago – ‘Why? Do I look like a criminal to you?’

Jin snorted, the kid looked like everything but a criminal, soft blonde hair that needed a cut, wearing some band shirt that got dirty when he was thrown to the ground, his hands hidden by an oversized black jacket, washed jeans with many holes and a pair of old converse. He looked like a normal guy to Jin, besides all the bruises and cuts.

‘Nah, you’re too good looking for that.’ – it slipped from Jins lips before he could stop, he coughed when Yoongi tilted his head and glared at him, trying to be though but looking more like a kitten.

‘Hitting on punks, officer ? Is the sea so devoid of fish for you that you had to come for me?’ – Yoongi asked with a smirk, the self-deprecating tone obvious to Jin.

‘Punks aren’t supposed to know big words like devoid , kid.’ – he tried to make the air lighter, to push Yoongis bitterness away.

The boy huffed, strands of hair going up with the motion and falling down over his eyes – ‘I’m not an idiot, I read books.’

I bet you do, kid , he thought – ‘Where do you live? I think your parents might be worried about you.’

Yoongi, who was trying to fix his hair on the rearview mirror, stopped and looked back at Jin like the officer grew another head – ‘How old do you think I am?’

Jin didn’t really thought about it, he just flirted with the kid not even knowing if he was old enough to know what his intentions were – ‘Eighteen? Nineteen?’

The boy looked offended, it amused Jin – ‘I’m twenty two, grandpa !’

‘Don’t call me grandpa! I’m only one year older than you!’ – Jin shrieked.

Yoongi snorted and went back to fixing his hair – ‘That’s what you get for thinking that I was a kid! I live with my friends, cop, not my parents.’

The other man sighed – ‘ Sure kid , sure.’ – he said, Yoongi frowned at the nickname but kept fixing his hair, Jin stared at him – ‘You never told me why those guys were beating you up, spill it.’

The boy smiled, stopped fixing his hair and stared back at Jin, who suppressed a cold shiver – ‘Only if you take me out, officer .’

Jin smiled back at him – ‘Are you that straightforward, kid?’ – Yoongi winked and licked his lips.

One , stop calling me kid when I’m trying to get in your pants,’ – Yoongi said, coming closer to the man, his soft lips and gummy smile almost touching Jins plush lips – ‘ Two , yes I am.’ – he whispered and closed the space between them.
