Work Text:

The wind softly caressed Kunihiro's hair as he stopped in the hallway, enjoying the way his hair fluttered against his face. It was a cool Autumn morning; The laundry was done and the expedition teams had returned from the previous day's work. He heard hushed giggling from a room down the hall as some of the swords began to plan out their days. He heard footsteps from behind him and turned around to see Yamanbagiri, face red and cloak pulled nearly over his entire head, darting past him. He was about to call out to him when he heard Mutsunokami speeding down the hall after him.

“Yaaaaamaaaaaaaaaaaan!!!” He laughed gleefully.

“Nooooooooooo,” came the distressed reply as Yamanbagiri bolted down another hallway.

“Be careful, you two!” Kunihiro called after them, smiling as he heard a muffled 'we will!' from around the corner. Kunihiro took the empty laundry basket he was carrying back inside, setting it carefully in the corner of the room with the others. He then made his way outside again, wandering aimlessly down the hall to enjoy the weather. Turning the corner, he saw his partner, Izuminokami, seated on the porch, eliciting an instant smile from the smaller sword.

Izuminokami's long, deep brown hair cascaded down his back, curling around itself and splaying about on the floor behind him. Two strands of his hair fell over his shoulders, framing his face and giving some depth to his hair where they were tied together in the back, held by a small ribbon. His eyes were closed, a faint smile gracing his lips as his hair swayed around him beautifully, occasionally revealing his earrings behind falling strands of near-black. As he sensed someone watching him, he opened his eyes and looked back at Kunihiro, revealing shiny, sky-blue eyes, softening lovingly when they met Kunihiro's own. His lips curved up into a more prominent smile as he came to sit with his partner.

“Nice weather isn't it?” Izuminokami looked back up towards the sky, his sentence punctuated by a bird chirp somewhere in the garden.

“It is.”

“Let's go for a walk. Around the garden,” he said, pushing himself up from the porch and offering his hand to Kunihiro.

“Sure!” He smiled, taking the offered hand and standing up. Neither one of them let go just yet. Kunihiro let the other sword lead him across the wide stone bridge, bringing them into the more secluded portion of the gardens where the foliage was denser. They slowed their pace to a calm walk as they talked.

“Kane-san, let's play a game.”

“Hmm? What kind of game?”

“Let's take turns asking each other questions. If you get one right you get a reward!” His eyes glittered with honest mischief.

“Oh? Okay then, you start.” He watched his boyfriend amusedly.

“Let's see...How many wisteria trees are in the garden?”

“Kunihiro that's...” He frowned as he around at the massive clumps of lavender and pink sprawling every which way, shading some of the smaller plants and bits of grass.

“Twelve?” He took his best guess.

“Twenty-seven.” Kunihiro laughed.

“How did you even know there were that many?” He laughed defeatedly.

“Because I pay attention when sent to do fieldwork, Kane-san.” He grinned up at his boyfriend teasingly.

“Hey now! I-”

“Your turn!” He interrupted.

“Why you- Okay, fine.” He looked around, humming in thought. He grinned suddenly when he thought of something, all but whirling around to face Kunihiro.

“What major historical building was damaged in an earthquake in 1924?” He glittered, sure he had won.

“The Kenchoji Rinzai temple.” He answered smoothly, not missing a beat. Izuminokami frowned.

“Do you find a bunch of bizarre facts around the citadel just for occasions like this?”

“Maybe!” He laughed again.

“So what's my reward?” He bounced ahead of the other a few steps, letting go of his hand in favor of putting his hands behind his back coyly. Izuminokami looked around, finally zoning in on something and wandering over to a patch of flowers. He knelt down with his back to the other for a moment before returning.

“Here.” He took the flower and gently nestled it above Kunihiro's ear, right under his hair.

“What kind of flower is it?” Kunihiro asked curiously, not sure he knew the name of this one.

“It's an amethyst flower, it means admiration in flower-speak or whatever.” He blushed and looked away, putting his hands on his hips casually. Kunihiro blushed and gently touched the soft petals of the flower. Izuminokami suddenly looked back at him.

“Wait you didn't know that? Can that be my next question?” He asked hurriedly.

“Nope! It's my turn now.” He giggled as his partner made a distressed sound.

“Okay, did you fold up the futon before you left the room?” Kunihiro asked, smiling innocently as his partner flinched visibly.

“...No.” Izuminokami looked away, blush dusting the corners of his cheeks.

“Kane-saaaaan,” Kunihiro complained, wrapping his arms around the taller sword's arm.

“Kunihiroooooo, I forgoooot.” He whined back, pout adorning his features.

“Well, you did get the question right though, so here.” He pulled his boyfriend down by his haori, leaning up and giving him a soft, chaste kiss on the lips before quickly pulling back. Izuminokami's blush deepened, spreading all the way to his ears. He was opening his mouth to say something before being cut off by a voice from the Citadel.

“Oh, sounds like Yamabushi is calling me.” Kunihiro furrowed his eyebrows towards the sound of the voice.

“Kane-san, let's continue the game later.” He smiled up at the other before taking off towards the Citadel.

“Coooomiiiiiing!”

“Geez.” Izuminokami sighed fondly.

“That Kunihiro.”

-

“That's a nice flower.” Yamanbagiri commented when Kunihiro ran up to his two brothers.

“Isn't it? Kane-san gave it to me. Oh, did you finally escape Mutsunokami-san?”

“...For now.” He turned away, faint blush dusting his expression. Yamabushi laughed heartily.

“You can tell us all about it while we tend the fields. Come!” He laughed again.

“Sure!” Kunihiro laughed, taking Yamanbagiri's hand and pulling him along with them.
