Work Text:
Another boring day, another endless cycle.
Perhaps Shouto should be more thankful that life wasn’t quite so terrible anymore. His alarm screeches at him, rousing him into consciousness. He’s no longer woken up by the noise of an angry father; he doesn’t live at home. Yuuei, academy of the Humanities, happens to be a boarding school, and also happens to be the same school Shouto attends. But Shouto’s still a dumbass that forgot to turn off his alarm, so he’s a bit upset at himself over that. But it’s fine; no problem.
He makes a grab for his phone, and smiles at the message.

Izuku ♡ | 04:23;

The gesture really is quite cute. Izuku; Shouto’s boyfriend for about three months now, was someone he’d never even met face-to-face before. Izuku is a popular blogger about the famous comic, The Adventures of All Might and was an aspiring writer himself. The two had met online almost a year ago, and after Izuku had coaxed Shouto into acknowledging his art skill was his and his alone, Shouto had unwittingly fallen.
Izuku and Shouto had skyped many times before, and sent pictures before, and Shouto was horribly attached and smitten with the boy.
With a soft smile, he began to tap on his phone’s keyboard.
——
Me | 06:34;
Alright. I hope you have a not-bad time.
I love you too.
♡

They’re horribly cheesy, but it makes Shouto feel happy. All Might—the comic franchise—had brought the two together in ways Shouto never would have fathomed. He smiles widely at the span of heart emojis Izuku had sent, and raises a hand to cover his mouth.
Shouto puts his phone down, and moves to get dressed. School won’t wait for him to get ready, after all. It’s such a curse, really: Shouto is not a morning person. Now that he doesn’t have to be around his father, he can sleep in. He doesn’t have to worry about his old man anymore. With a content sigh, finishes quickly and leaves to the common area of the dorms.
“Todoroki-kun!” A familiar voice—Yaoyorozu, no doubt. “I never see you up this early on a Saturday!”
It’s a true statement. Usually, Shouto doesn’t get out of bed until he’s forcibly dragged out, and by then it’s probably midday. But he forgot to turn off his alarm—and now his heart is bursting with affection for his boyfriend. Boyfriend. It still doesn’t feel real, after all these months. But his lockscreen—a positively adorable selfie Izuku had sent him last week, the text message that he received at four in the morning—was proof that it was all real. Is proof that it’s all real.
“I forgot to turn my alarm off,” Shouto says, clicking on his phone to get a glimpse of his boyfriend. Yaoyorozu hums, and moves to walk in rhythm with Shouto.
“Would you like scrambled eggs? I was about to make some,” Yaoyorozu offers. Shouto nods, and sits down on the couches. Yaoyorozu’s cooking is godsent, no doubt about it. “Did you know we’re getting a new student, Todoroki-kun?”
“A new student?” Shouto blinks. “You can do that at a boarding school?”
Yaoyorozu nods, cracking the eggs into the sizzling pan. “Apparently, they got recommended in by Yagi-sensei. It’s a pretty big deal.”
Shouto blanches. Yagi Toshinori, the creator of the All Might franchise, recommended someone for the course? Shouto himself was recommended in by his shitty old man, the esteemed writer Todoroki Enji, and Yaoyorozu was recommended in by her parents, one a popular musician, the other a famous sports player.
To be recommended by Yagi himself; that had to mean whoever was coming was good.
Immediately, Shouto’s thoughts move to Izuku. Izuku, who wanted so desperately to go to Yuuei for writing stories. However, due to a lack of money and self-confidence, couldn’t. Shouto never told him he was at Yuuei, for the sake of Izuku’s already near-non-existent self-esteem. Izuku’s stories were incredible, though—it’s really such a shame just because of a fee he couldn’t come.
“I wonder for what,” Shouto murmurs. Yaoyorozu shrugs, continuing to swirl the eggs around in the pan.
Shouto’s phone vibrates, and really, Shouto should be a bit embarrassed when he grabs it, unlocks it, and reads the message in less than five seconds. (Yaoyorozu looks at him, vaguely impressed, but he doesn’t notice her.)

Izuku ♡ | 06:46;
u’re never up this early on a saturday, shouto!!!
i’m in the car rn
i never noticed how many notebooks i had!
Me | 06:46;
I forgot to turn my alarm off.
I’m eating breakfast right now. Did you eat?
Izuku ♡ | 06:47;
pffft.
i’m texting u w/ my feet rn
im eating a croissant
Me | 06:48;
I forget you can do that sometimes.
I imagine it’s helpful when multi-tasking
Izuku ♡ | 06:49;
haha yeah!! it’s helpful to eat and type at once
which is harder for me, obviously
——
Ah, yes, Izuku’s root of lack of self-confidence was connected to the fact he doesn’t have a right arm. Although, Shouto thinks it’s pretty damn cool that Izuku can type with his feet. How many people can type with their feet? Izuku’s stories were all written that way, because typing is quite slow when one only has one arm available, and when one thinks as fast as Izuku… well, it’s convenient.
Shouto wonders if the reason Izuku’s family didn’t have the money to afford Yuuei is connected to the fact Izuku is an amputee.
He clicks open the library on his phone, and smiles to himself as he reads through some of Izuku’s writing.
(Yaoyorozu’s gaping at him in the corner. Perhaps he should’ve been more tactful.)
Two weeks pass, and still, the last text message Izuku sent him was which is harder for me, obviously.
Not a single good morning text, not a single good night text, and not a single heart emoji. He wasn’t even left on read.
Just, delivered. Delivered for two weeks.
Is it really his fault he felt emptier than before he met Izuku?
“Todoroki-kun,” Yaoyorozu tries. “Are you sure you’re okay? You seem a bit.... closed off, recently.”
“M’fine,” Shouto says, slumped over his desk. I just miss my boyfriend. “I’m just… missing someone.”
Yaoyorozu’s face softens. “Someone from home? It has been three weeks since the term started; I suppose it is still early. But don’t worry, you’ll see your family at the end of the term.”
Shouto wants to say he doesn’t miss his family. But that’d be a lie: he misses his sister, his brothers he can hardly remember, and he misses his mother. But he’d die before he has to see his trash bag of a father again. But he’s not mopey because of them—he’s mopey because his stupidly adorable boyfriend has been busy and hasn’t been able to text him.
“Oh my GOD!” Someone shrieks. Shouto lifts his head up; it’s Uraraka, red and panting, clearly having run up the flight of stairs. If he remembers correctly, she plays the clarinet. “Yagi-sensei—his pupil, the person rumored to be coming here… is here!”
Yaoyoruzu looks shocked. “I thought that ended just being a rumor?”
“No!” Uraraka exclaims. “He’s here, and he’s in our class! Yagi-sensei’s fixing him up, because of some issues? I don’t remember—but since class is going to start in like, two minutes, I kind of want to not be late and see who caught the eye of like, the most popular guy ever!”
Shouto sits up straight. So it wasn’t a hoax?
The flood of students enter the classroom, but no Yagi-sensei or new kid in sight. Shouto’s classmates are all murmuring under their breath, whispering to each other about the new student, Yagi-sensei’s disciple.
Something vibrates, but all other murmurs and whispers distract him from looking for the source of the vibration. All the seats in the classroom are filled, sans for one behind the angry theater kid and in front the one with messy purple hair and a fixation on philosophy.
The door swings open, and the breath is stolen from Shouto’s lungs.
Aizawa-sensei, followed by Yagi-sensei, followed by… Izuku?
Izuku, with a prosthetic arm, a laptop in his hands, and a high, pink blush on his cheeks. Shouto’s gaping, and he can’t rip his eyes away. Izuku’s binder is peaking from the side of the shirt, and Izuku notices, fixing it hurriedly and raking his own gaze through the classroom. Izuku’s forest green eyes freeze when they make eye contact, and Shouto immediately stands up.
“Shoucchan?” Izuku whispers. Shouto nods, and the two just… stand there. Staring. With the entire class staring at them.
Shouto’s never wanted to simultaneously kiss someone and die more.
He slowly sits back down, and Izuku’s pink face has warmed greatly, now closer to red. “...Hello, everyone!” Yagi-sensei calls, interrupting the awkward gaze everyone was giving Shouto. “Meet your new classmate, Midoriya Izuku!”
Silence. Izuku stumbles, nearly dropping his laptop. “H-Hi! I’m Midoriya Izuku—but Tos—I mean, Yagi-sensei already told you that! I’m, uhm, a writer. And I’m so happy to be here, I hope we can all get along…!”
Izuku stumbles off to the empty seat, and Shouto’s eyes are still blown wide. He grabs his phone to send a text to Izuku, but—

Well.
Shouto feels a bit dumb now. The bell rings blarily, and Aizawa-sensei just sits at the desk, and silently takes roll. This is entirely too much for Shouto’s in-shock heart.
His phone vibrates again. Shouto leans a little to the front, and yep—Izuku took off his shoes in order to text with his feet. My boyfriend is so talented.
