Work Text:
He could see it, the distrust and doubt in the eyes of the woman in front of him. It was clear as day, obvious to all who paid even a little bit of attention. He opened his mouth to say something, anything, but nothing came out.
Tears were streaming down her cheeks, never stopping. The dam had been broken and nothing was holding her back. Her heart had suffered enough, the pain too much to handle.
The male took a step forward, intent on pulling her back into his arms where she'd be safe and okay again. Where she could be herself, let go of her frustrations and where she was protected from all harm.
Don't. Please. I beg of you.
Her words stopped him in his tracks, his own eyes now filling up rapidly.
Please, give me another chance. I can do better.
The words stumbled from his mouth before he even registered them.
She looked at him, those beautiful eyes he loved so much now no longer overflowing with love and adoration like they used to. Pain took it's place.
I can't.
