Summary
Science can't explain 'bonds', those psychic connections between two or more people's souls. They prefer to pretend they don't exist, that the whole phenomenon is the result of acute mental stress. After all, most bonds appear after traumatic events. Jack and Gabriel know that bonds are real; theirs is stronger than steel.
When something goes wrong on one of Gabriel's unofficial Blackwatch missions, Jack feels it in the bond. He knows that time is limited and that he has to get to Gabriel immediately. The pain he feels transmitting through the bond tells him to expect the worst, but he has to go and find him. Even if it means bringing home a corpse.
