Chapter Text
“Aww man, I don't like this….” Denki replied as he held his sword tightly. “I've been hired to kill almost everything, but this is the first time I’ve been asked to slay a dragon...” He swallowed thickly and walked into the cave. He felt warm and was starting to sweat as he got closer. Denki then ran in with his sword held high, and stopped seeing the beast was already dead. The treasure had been untouched. Denki slowly checked it. “I don’t see any wounds on it...” He then took this sword and sliced off a claw from the dragon. He looked at it. “I see….It died of old age...” He pocketed the claw and decided it’d be a nice souvenir he could keep. He then took his satchel and started to pocket some of the treasure. As he went through what was worth to keep and what to give to his client, he felt something scaly under the coins. He uncovered it and his mouth dropped. A baby dragon the color of blood was asleep under the coins. It looked sad. Denki picked it up.
“You poor thing...” He then looked at the older dragon. He finally pieced together everything. The older dragon had just given birth to the baby before dying. When the baby hatched, it’s mother was already dead. It had buried itself under the coins for warmth. Denki held it close to his chest. “I can’t leave you now can I?” The baby made a small roar. He placed the baby down and finished raiding the cave. “Can you walk?” The baby titled its head, and then tried to run after Denki. It fell. Denki tied his bag around his neck and carried the baby out of the cave. “You need a name don’t you?” He stopped to think of a name. “I got it! I’ll name you Eijiro!” The baby roared again, and almost burned Denki’s hat off his head. “I’ll be your papa from now on. I’ll take care of you.” He bopped it on the snout and it made what was the equivalent of a laugh.
A Few Years Later
“Eijiro! Come here I have dinner ready!” Denki yelled out. He held out a goat’s leg. He waited for his pal to show up and snatch it from him. “If you don't eat it, I’ll just have to.” He pretended to start to eat it, and was then knocked over by Eijiro. He ate the leg whole and then licked Denki. “That tickles! Stop!” He laughed. Denki scratched behind Eijiro’s horns and licked him again. He smiled remembering bringing him home and almost losing his whole house when tried to shoot fire from happiness. It had been 5 years since Denki brought Eijiro home and he never regretted it.
“Did ya fly far this time?” Denki asked. Eijiro nodded and flapped its wings a bit. “You’ll get there I know you will.” He got up and walked inside. Soon after Denki took in Eijiro, he used some of his treasure and had his house remodeled so Eijiro could live with him. He grew quite a bit over the years. It was unheard of for someone to have a dragon as a pet, but it wasn’t against any laws. As long as he had a collar and was near Denki at all times, he was free to roam as he pleased in town. “I need to get some things in town.” Eijiro made a happy squeal and Denki climbed on his back. He lived far from town, but enjoyed the quiet area he shared with his friend.
“Oh! Hello Denki!” The lady said as he entered the shop. “Hi to you too Eijiro.”
“Hi! I was hoping you’d have some goat legs.” Eijiro drooled as the lady brought them out. “Awesome! Thank you!” She then offered one to Eijiro.
“On the house. He’s so well behaved.” Eijiro gladly gobbled it. “Take care both of you!” Denki nodded and they left.
“I can’t believe he didn't kill it.” He heard someone say. There were people that didn't like the fact Denki cared for Eijiro. Denki wasn't heartless. Things might have been different if Eijiro was full grown. After a few more stops, Denki again hopped on Eijiro and flew home.
“Eijiro! Bed time!” Denki called out. Eijiro ran over and made himself comfy in his nest. Denki petted him and sang a soft lullaby. Once he was done, Eijiro was fast asleep. “Good night Eijiro.” He kissed him and went to bed himself.
