Work Text:
A boy, looking to be about thirteen years old, with a head of long, messy black hair sprinted down the stairs leading from the castle to the greenhouses. His small hands were clutched around a large paper bag and his dark robes billowed behind him as he reached the main room of the greenhouse. Opening the door, he stepped inside, small feet padding against the floor of the greenhouse. After putting down the bag at one of the empty tables unoccupied by plants, the ravenet sat down and took a small carton of chocolate milk from the bag. Soon, the herbology professor entered the greenhouse, smiling warmly at the boy.
“Good afternoon, Yoongi. How have your lessons been so far today?” Professor Stone asked, taking out some papers and shuffling through them.
The ravenet smiled a little, although it was obviously forced as it didn’t reach his eyes, and took a sip of chocolate milk, “Fine.”
Yoongi's terse response made the professor look up at the boy, noticing how his dark eyes were trained on the carton in his hands with his brows furrowed. It was obvious that his day was not fine, but the boy was trying to avoid talking about it.
“Are you sure?” Professor Stone’s soft tone made Yoongi freeze, looking up sheepishly.
The boy played with his fingers, not absentmindedly, rather, he cracked each knuckle of his fingers, full of anxious energy, “I got into an argument with Gyuwon again.”
After Professor Stone gestured politely for the boy to continue, Yoongi continued quickly and breathlessly, stumbling over his words, “He was making fun of me again and I ended up punching him and he punched me back and we started to fight and a professor saw and now I have more detention. Again.”
Although it was hard to understand what the third year said because of how fast he was talking, Professor Stone was able to get the gist of what had happened. The ravenet was constantly getting into arguments and fights with other students, both younger and older, as his background and temper made him an easy target for people to pick on. His most common fights were with Yoongi’s s brother, Gyuwon, who was a year older than him, as the two constantly butted heads, often started by the eldest.
“Yoongi, you have to try and find a nonviolent solution if someone tries to pick on you, especially since he’s your brother.”
Quietly, Yoongi muttered, “Adoptive brother.”
“Still, we’ve talked about this countless times,” With a sigh, Professor Jung continued, “but I don’t need to lecture you again. Have you made any new friends or talked to any nice people?”
After being met with more silence from the ravenet, Professor Stone felt a pang of sadness through his chest, pitying the young boy and how he was a social outcast. Yoongi silently took out a sandwich from his bag and slowly began to eat it, eyes darting around the greenroom.
“I’m sure the rest of this year will be just like first year and second year,” He finally said quietly, eyes downcast.
The professor wasn’t sure what he could say to the sad looking boy that would cheer him up, so he tried to make Yoongi feel a little better by showing him that he wasn’t alone.
“I was a lot like you during my first years of Hogwarts. I didn’t have any real friends, but I eventually got some. I’m sure you’ll find some,” even with Professor Stone’s reassuring words, Yoongi still didn’t look convinced.
After finishing his lunch, Yoongi said goodbye to the professor and trekked back up to the castle for his afternoon classes, feeling warm inside from having someone else’s company. However, when Yoongi saw the stares of his classmates and the obvious whispering and pointing, he felt the warm feeling slowly melt away.
When Yoongi entered the Slytherin common room later that day, after his classes ended, the other Slytherins went silent, before resuming hushed conversations. He knew they were talking about him, about the third year Slytherin who got into fights with his own housemates and got a ton of detentions. Stifling a sigh, Yoongi sat down at one of the armchairs of the common room, taking out his potions textbook to study.
Although he was focused on his studying, the stares and whispers of the other Slytherins made him feel like he was suffocating. After hearing a fourth year say a loud snarky comment about him, Yoongi gathered up his stuff and went up to his dormitory to study in peace. A pang of loneliness went through his chest, but Yoongi ignored it, as it was a common feeling.
As he sat alone at the Slytherin table during breakfast the next morning, surrounded by chatting students, none of whom wanted to interact with him, Yoongi looked around the Great Hall, until his gaze landed on a familiar head of brown hair, sitting and talking happily with his friends at the Gryffindor table. It was Seokjin Kim, a well-known third year who was drop-dead gorgeous already at age 14, as well as a top-scoring student and a talented musician. Whenever Yoongi saw the brunet, his heart started to beat faster, his palms got sweaty, and his knees started to shake. He avoided Seokjin like the plague, acknowledging the fact that he had a crush on him and not wanting to embarrass himself around the brunet.Really, he already had embarrassed himself with his reputation around the school, but Yoongi didn’t want to make Seokjin hate him more than he probably already did.
Not surprisingly, Yoongi’s third year passed similar to both his last years at Hogwarts: full of fighting, detentions, and with no friends. However, he couldn’t help but hope his fourth year would be better, somehow.
While Yoongi was studying for his upcoming History of Magic quiz in the library, someone sat down next to him, placing their books on the table with a thump. Hesitantly, Yoongi looked up to see the olive green hair of Namjoon Kim, a Gryffindor a year below him that was well-known for being one of the top students, even at his young age. Not knowing exactly what to do, Yoongi simply stared at the boy with wide eyes.
“Hi, Yoongi. How’s it going?” the green haired boy sat down on the seat next to him.
The ravenet was confused as to why Namjoon was trying to be friendly to him, as he never tried to interact with him in the years that they’d been classmates.
“Fine, and you?”
It seemed like Namjoon was surprised at Yoongi’s somewhat friendly response, and smiled bashfully at the other boy, “I’m great. You looked lonely, so I wanted to come talk to you. Well, to tell you the truth, I was lonely too.”
One thing that Yoongi hated was being pitied, and it felt like Namjoon was pitying him, from the tone of his voice to his expression. A look of hostility crossed Yoongi’s face, making Namjoon’s smile melt.
“Am I your charity case, Mr. Genius? ‘Helping’ the weird kid to make yourself feel better. Well, screw you, I don’t want your pity,” he hissed, narrowing his eyes at Namjoon.
Hurt flashed across Namjoon’s face, “I’m not trying to pity you. I honestly want to talk to you.”
Seeing Namjoon’s sad face made Yoongi feel awful for the way he treated the boy, that maybe Namjoon didn’t mean to Indwelt him.
“Uhm, sorry. The last time someone tried to be friendly with me… did not end well. Can we start over? I swear I’m really not a jerk.”
For some reason, Namjoon decided to forgive Yoongi, and they started to hang out more. Yoongi was grateful to actually have a friend, and Namjoon was a great one.
Both of the two quickly became even closer over the following month, although Namjoon had other friends, and they continued to be friends throughout Yoongi’s fourth year. Still, Yoongi was grateful for his company and for the fact that Namjoon actually spent time with him.
As they were in different houses, the two couldn’t really hang out in a common room, so they spent most of their time in the library, often staying until they were kicked out by the new, way nicer-than-Madame Pince librarian, Madame Romero (who actually chatted with them occasionally).
Soon enough, Namjoon introduced Yoongi to someone new, a Hufflepuff in Namjoon’s year named Hoseok Jung. The peach haired teen was a ball of sunshine and energy, and always made their study sessions a blast, even though he sometimes distracted them from their studies.
As Yoongi scribbled down sentences of his potions essay, he waited for Namjoon and Hoseok to finally show up so they could work on their schoolwork together.
When he heard the sound of textbooks hitting the ancient wood of the table across from him, Yoongi said in a sassy tone, “Glad you finally decided to show up. I was worried that one of you’d fallen down one of the staircases and were sent to the Hospital Wing. Again. Looking at you, Joon.”
But while Hoseok grinned and Namjoon chuckled and sat down, another, very familiar laugh rang out. A laugh Yoongi had committed to his memory. A loud, squeaky, hiccuping laugh that belonged to none other Seokjin Kim.
Immediately, Yoongi’s eyes darted up, landing on the smiling face of Seokjin, then right back down at his paper. He tightened his grip on his quill as his palms started to get sweaty. “Oh, Yoongi, Seokjin’s here to study with us, by the way. I don’t know if you’ve meet, he’s in your year,” Namjoon said, and Yoongi in
ternally cursed his friend’s name.
“It’s nice to officially meet you, Yoongi, although I’ve heard a lot about you,” Yoongi held his breath, waiting for the inevitable to happen, “You’re the best at Herbology in our year. No, wait, you’re probably in the whole school.”
He slowly looked up, eyes wide with surprise, to see that Seokjin was not only still smiling at him, but was sitting next to him. When Yoongi realized how close they were, he felt his stomach do flips and his face heat up.
Seokjin was looking at him patiently, and Yoongi stammered out a lame response, “Uhm, thank you?”
Luckily for Yoongi, Hoseok started a conversation by asking a question about his and Namjoon’s upcoming History of Magic test, which Seokjin easily answered, so he was able to take a breather. Looking down at his parchment, he noticed he had pressed the tip of his quill against the paper a few times, leaving large ink marks across his paper. With a sigh, he crumpled up the piece of parchment and tossed it aside, taking a clean parchment from his book bag, trying to focus on his essay.
“So, Yoongi, I heard from Professor Stone that you’ve been cultivating kinds of magical plants with new properties. Can you tell me a little about your plants?” Seokjin’s voice immediately made Yoongi look up, as if he was hypnotized.
Blinking owlishly at the taller teen, Yoongi said slowly, “You… want to know about my plants?”
No one had ever asked about Yoongi’s plants, save for Namjoon and Hoseok, even when Professor Stone had shown off the first plant he had created (Lirabelle, a plant that changes colors depending on what emotions people nearby are feeling), so hearing that Seokjin freaking Kim ask him about his precious plants really surprised Yoongi.
“Of course, silly,” his voice was light and teasing, making Yoongi’s face heat up even more. As he was excited to talk to his favorite person about his favorite thing, Yoongi started off by talking too fast, slurring some of
his words in the process, “Oh, well, I’ve been working on dittany-uh crossing dittany and moondew to create an pot- even more potent healing plant or ah, ingredient. Uhm, but dittany doesn’t cross well with other plants so it’s been difficult, but I’m sure it will eventually work out....”
Much to Yoongi’s surprise, Seokjin actually payed attention, letting out a cute “oh” sound once Yoongi had finished rambling.
“That’s so interesting. You’re super talented, you know.”
Scratching his neck nervously, Yoongi smiled bashfully at Seokjin, “You’re more talented. I mean, you’re at the top of the class and you sing really, really well and play guitar ‘n everything.”
Poor Yoongi still couldn’t believe that Seokjin was sitting next to him and actually talking to him. The person he’d idolized since first year was listening to him talk on and on about his plants! But the universe would never let Yoongi to be happy, as his older brother had to show up in the library with his two friends at that very moment.
“Damn, I didn’t know that Yoongi had friends!” Gyuwon sneered at the younger teen, his friends snickering along.
With his hands balling into fists and his nails pressing into his palms, Yoongi gritted his teeth, “I don’t want to talk with you right now, Gyuwon. I’m trying to study.”
His response made the older ravenet and his friends scowl, and Gyuwon grabbed onto Yoongi’s chair, starting to shake it, “I don’t want to talk with you, ever, but mom and dad took pity on you, so now I’m stuck with you.”
“Stop.”
“Nah, I don’t want to. You’re causing us so many issues, I wish mom and dad let you go to an orphanage. You’d deserve it,” he sneered.
Furrowing his eyebrows, Yoongi stood up and shoved his chair aside with a clatter, grabbing Gyuwon by the collar of his shirt and hissing, “I never asked for my parents to die or to be adopted by your parents, so fuck off for God’s sake!”
Yoongi was beyond furious, he felt like he was seconds away from punching his brother in the nose. But luckily for Gyuwon, Seokjin cleared his throat and glared at both of them
“Gyuwon, knock it off. I’m a prefect, so if you don’t stop harassing Yoongi, I’ll give you all detention, and get your perfect to take away points from Slytherin. And Yoongi, violence is not acceptable,” his voice was tense, full of anger but controlled.
Obediently, Yoongi nodded and let go of Gyuwon, shuffling back a few steps, looking like a kicked puppy dog with his downcast expression and slumped shoulders.
Surprised that Seokjin stood up for Yoongi, Gyuwon scoffed, stalking away but not before saying in a scalding tone, “Even if you have friends now, Yoongi, you’ll end up how you always end up: Alone. And that’s just what you deserve.”
Seeing the pitiful look Seokjin was giving him, Yoongi’s chest constricted with embarrassment, dejection, worthlessness, from what had happened. The one person that he had never wanted to see his awful violent side or to know about his family life had seen everything. As soon as Gyuwon and his friends had disappeared from sight, Yoongi shoved all his things in his bag, mumbled some excuse about having to leave, and sped out of the library. His feet hit the ground as he broke into a run, towards his only safehaven: the greenhouse. But before Yoongi could reach the staircase leading to the grounds, a hand grabbed onto his wrist, stopping his momentum.
Yoongi wheeled around, blinking back tears, to see that it was Seokjin holding onto him, his long, crooked fingers wrapped around his own pale, skinny wrist.
“Yoongi-” Before Seokjin could say anything else in that pitying tone of his, Yoongi cut him off. “Stop! I don’t want your pity. I know my life sucks, so just mind your own business and leave me alone!” he snapped, ripping his hand away from Seokjin.
Without turning back to see Seokjin’s reaction, Yoongi stormed out of the castle and down the stairs, and slammed the door to his plant nursery behind him. Slumping into his chair, he let out a sigh, feeling guilty for snapping at Seokjin when the brunet was trying to help him. After calming down for a bit, Yoongi’s eyes raked the rows of plants in the nursery until his eyes landed one of the purely cosmetic flowers he had created, a pink blossom that was a mix of a rose and a peony, which he had lovingly dubbed a “roseony”. After carefully cutting one of the fully developed flowers from the rest of the plant, Yoongi trimmed the thorns and left the greenhouse, making sure to lock it behind him.
When Yoongi had returned to the library, Namjoon and Hoseok were still there studying, but Seokjin was nowhere to be seen, and the olive haired teen just started to chastise the ravenet.
“Jin’s pissed at you. Seriously, he was trying to help and you were an ass, and Jin takes that kind of thing very seriously. To be honest, I’m disappointed that you were so rude to him, but he stopped by to tell me what happened before he headed up towards the Astronomy Tower just a minute ago or so. Y’know-”
Before Namjoon could finish, Yoongi raced off towards the tower, keeping a tight grip on the roseony as he slid around a corner. But as soon as Yoongi did, he nearly ran face-first into Gyuwon, who was flanked by two of his friends.
“What the he-” Yoongi was interrupted by Gyuwon shoving him against the wall, furrowed eyes boring into his younger brother’s skull.
“Why the hell are you hanging around people like them? I know since you have no friends you’ve become so desperate, but a fucking nerd like Namjoon, a Hufflepuff blood traitor like Hoseok, and a kiss-ass Muggle-born like Seokjin, really?,” he snarled, making Yoongi flinch.
With his free hand tightened into a fist, Yoongi spat out, “Shut up, Gyuwon.”
“Seokjin’s a fag, he can’t keep his hands off other dudes. You can’t walk down the hallway without seeing him all over someone, ‘cause he’s such a slut,” one of Gyuwon’s friends, Allen, chimed in, earning a sharp affirmative nod from Gyuwon and maing Yoongi’s blood boil.
Yoongi’s brows furrowed, and he hissed, “Don’t say that about him!”
“Hmm,” his brother’s face lit up with horrible excitement, ready to torment Yoongi, “If you’re defending Seokjin, doesn’t that mean that you’re gay, like him? I wonder what the school would say if Yoongi Min was a fag? Wait, no. What would our parents say, huh, Yoongi?”
Fear jolted through Yoongi’s body at the mention of his guardians, as there was no people he was more frightened of then the Kangs. Sure, Yoongi was grateful to have a home, but the Kang’s never treated him like a son, rather, he was just a charity case for them. The Kang household had many rules, mainly put in place to control Yoongi, and would punish the ravenet if he didn’t toe the line. Liking the same gender was not acceptable in the Kang household, and Yoongi had been able to hide his sexuality so far.
“I’m not gay!” Yoongi denied, but Gyuwon just laughed.
Stepping forward and ripping the roseony from his hand, Gyuwon smacked the flower against Yoongi’s chest, “I dunno, you seem to really like flowers, and this flower looks pretty gay.”
The laugh’s of Gyuwon’s friends echoed in Yoongi’s head, and he felt anxious and panicked, not wanting anyone, especially his guardians, to find out his sexuality.
“Stop calling me gay! I’m not a fag like Seokjin!” shouted Yoongi, stamping his foot to empathise his point.
Yoongi’s voice echoed throughout the hallway, the silence afterwards becoming deafening. Instead of teasing him again, Gyuwon and his friends were staring at someone or something behind him, smirks slowly growing on their lips. After turning around, Yoongi saw the saddened eyes of Seokjin. The teen was slouched over, long, crooked fingers darting around the hem of his sweater as he blinked irregularly, presumably to stop tears from falling down his cheeks.
When Seokjin finally spoke, his voice was timid, breaking a few times, “I’m glad that I know how you really feel. I thought we could’ve been friends.”
With that, Seokjin turned on his heels and retreated, Yoongi’s heart shattering as the brunet’s large shoulders disappeared from view. He didn’t notice Gyuwon and his friends leaving, barely hearing their snickers dissolve into the thick sadness. As he started to walk back to the Slytherin dormitory, he noticed the pink petals of the roseony scattered on the ground, the flower trampled on, just like his heart.
Just the next day, Namjoon and Hoseok stopped hanging out with Yoongi, barely explaining their reasoning, but Yoongi knew that it was because of what had happened with Seokjin. Anytime Yoongi passed Seokjin in the hallway, the brunet wouldn’t even bat an eye, choosing to ignore him. Never did Yoongi feel so alone, not even when he was a young child, late at night in his almost empty room in his new home, newly orphaned.
It wasn’t until a week later that Yoongi didn’t feel as empty and isolated, when he met Jeongguk Jeon and Jimin Park.
Yoongi was on his way to the greenhouse after classes when he saw a fifth year Gryffindor teasing a short, chubby-cheeked second year Slytherin, dangling a book above the younger boy’s head as the ravenet tried to grab it, short fingers slipping through the air.
“You want your book pack, Park? Just admit that your family’s full of Death Eaters, and I’ll give it back,” the Gryffindor teased, dipping the book down so that the Slytherin’s small fingers barely brushed past the cover.
As it had been decades since Voldemort terrorized the wizarding world, the Death Eaters had all but disappeared, and as the wizarding world was in peace, no one was afraid of them any more. However, some believed that some descendants of Death Eaters still practiced the Dark Arts, creating some rifts between the Houses, specifically targeting Slytherins.
The younger boy was close to tears, trying desperately to get his book back, letting out a squeak, “That’s not true! None of us are Death Eaters!”
Unable to stand by watching the cruel treatment of the second year, Yoongi stormed over to them, grabbing the Gryffindor by the back of his collar and yanking him backwards, away from the short ravenet
“Pick on someone your own size,” he said in his scariest, raspy tone, to which the fifth year scoffed, worming out of Yoongi’s grap and pushing the ravenet.
“You’re like a foot shorter than me, kid. You can’t take me.”
Well, the Gryffindor was wrong, as only a few seconds later he was on the ground, arms wound tight around himself and groaning, as Yoongi’s sharp elbow had made contact with his stomach at his comment. As Yoongi stood over the Gryffindor, glaring at him with disdain, the small second year stared at Yoongi with huge eyes, admiration shining through his dark irises.
“Here,” Yoongi tossed the book to the second year, who barely caught it, before turning to walk away.
“Wait!” the high-pitched voice of the second-year called out, making Yoongi pause and turn around slightly.
The smaller ravenet was clutching his book tightly against his chest, but smiled widely at Yoongi, his eyes forming small crescents, “Thank you. My name’s Jimin Park. You’re Yoongi Min, right?”
With a nod, Yoongi replied, “Yup. If anyone tries to harass you, just tell them you’ll get Yoongi Min to come after them. That’ll scare them off.”
“Normally Jeonggukkie is with me and he sticks up for me, but he wanted to study late today. But I’ll keep that in mind!”
Yoongi tilted his head nonchalantly and made a move to leave again, but Jimin shouted for him to stop yet again.
“Do you wanna maybe sit with me and Jeongguk during breakfast tomorrow? He always comes over from the Ravenclaw table to sit with me, and we’d love more company,” the boy’s eyes were shining with hope, and Yoongi didn’t want to hurt the poor boy.
It would also be nice for Yoongi to not be alone during meals, as ever since Namjoon and Seokjin shut him out, he’d been terribly alone. So he accepted Jimin’s offer, the smaller boy nearly squealing with excitement, and the two bid each other farewell.
Although it was a little weird for Yoongi, a fourth year, to be hanging out with a second and first year, he became attached to Jeongguk and Jimin rather quickly. When Jimin introduced Yoongi to Jeongguk, he was surprised, as the first year looked to be older than Jimin, with an athletic build already. The three bonded quickly over the fact that they were forced to act a certain way because of their families, blood status, and houses. But whenever Yoongi saw Namjoon or Seokjin in the hallways or during class, he felt his heart tighten up painfully, but would always dismiss the feeling ,as their friendship would have never worked out.
From that year forward, Seokjin completely hated Yoongi, and no matter how much Yoongi wanted to apologize, he knew he couldn’t, and even if he did, Seokjin would never forgive him. The Gryffindor would constantly compete with Yoongi to try and be better than the shorter teen, so much that the two had become known as rivals throughout the school. Yoongi didn’t want to be rivals with Seokjin, but he took every comment, every thinly-veiled insult, and every boast Seokjin threw at him and started to yell them right back at him, taking out his anger on the brunet. They’d sneer at each other when they passed in the hallways, they’d laugh at the other if one of them made a better potion; it just became normal for the two. But Yoongi didn’t believe anything that he said to Seokjin, really, he thought the opposite.
“Your hair looks awful, Kim. Blonde, really? Makes you look trashy.”
“Whatever. At least I actually take care of my hair, yours looks like a ratsnest most of the time.”
The two’s rivalry became well-known across the school, almost as hyped up at Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy’s rivalry so many decades prior. But Yoongi hated that, not wanting to hurt someone he cared about so much.
Although Seokjin and Yoongi’s relationship was utterly ruined, the ravenet’s became closer and closer with Jimin and Jeongguk, even though they were in different years, becoming inseparable by his seventh year (where he was made a prefect for some unknown reason while Seokjin was made Head Boy).
“Yoongi, are you sure that you can’t just give me all your Potions essays from your fourth year? I know you kept them,” Jeongguk asked in a pleading tone, letting his bottom lip poke out and tremble in a feeble attempt to arouse pity from the ravenet as they sat studying in the library after classes.
Not even glancing up from his History of Magics textbook, Yoongi replied bluntly, “No. If I had to suffer through that class, you will have to as well.”
Letting out a whine, Jeongguk started to protest, “But you’re a Slytherin, you’re supposed to be good at Potions, so I’m at a disadvantage.”
“Aren’t Ravenclaws supposed to be good in all subjects?” was all Yoongi said, but his short statement was a K.O. right into the fourth year’s heart, making the brunet slump over his textbook, as well as making Jimin giggle.
Brushing a few strands of his freshly dyed pink hair away from his eyes, the fifth year patted Jeongguk’s shoulder, “He got you there. Let’s just say that none of us fit the normal mold for our Houses.”
His point was right, as though on the outside, they acted like the perfect Purebloods or Half-bloods, Slytherins or Ravenclaws, under the fronts they put up, they defied every stereotype they had. As although Jeongguk was a Ravenclaw and did pretty well in school, his grades didn’t matter to him (though they did matter to his parents). He’d spend as many of his waking hours on the Quidditch field, as he was on his way to being chosen as the Ravenclaw Team Captain. Although Jimin had an air of superiority and silent beauty about him, along with the fact that he was half Veela, he was really a sweet kid who really loved taking care of magical creatures. And Yoongi was a big Herbology fan, but he accidentally kept reputation as a cold-hearted Slytherin who gets into trouble by starting fights and arguments all the time.
“Yeah, but I still need to finish this dumb essay ‘cause it’s due tomorrow,” Jeongguk groaned, face still resting on the library table.
No matter how annoying Jimin and Jeongguk could get, Yoongi still loved the two younger boys with all his heart. The three of them finished up studying, Jeongguk throwing together an average Potions essay, and left the library, heading down the corridors towards their favorite courtyard. As they walked, Jeongguk and Jimin went a little ahead, Jeongguk making dramatic movements and jokes, as the corridor was empty, making Jimin erupt into bouts of giggles. Once they’d reached the courtyard, they plopped their stuff down on one of the benches and sat down, enjoying the last pieces of warmth the end of September would give them before winter set in.
The trio hung out in the courtyard, chatting until it got dark, and then they dispersed to head over to their own common rooms; Jeongguk heading upstairs to the Ravenclaw common room and the other two down to the dungeons.Once Yoongi and Jimin reached their dormitory and were comfortable in their beds, Jimin peeked up from his bed, fidgeting and full of nervous energy.
Knowing that whatever was bothering Jimin would have to be pried from the pink haired teen, Yoongi asked, “What’s the matter, Jimin?”
“My mother sent me an owl. She wants to run for Minister of Magic, so she was telling me to watch my behavior, as to not hurt her reputation,” from the way Jimin was speaking, Yoongi knew that what he was saying wasn’t the whole truth.
“Is that all?”
Letting out a small whine,Jimin said, “No… She also said that… I shouldn’t be a disappointment like I was the last year...”
When Jimin was a fourth year, he had accidentally let slip to his parents that he liked boys. His parents were furious and refused to accept that fact that their son was gay, forcing Jimin to hide his sexuality.
“She also told me that she is considering an engagement between me and Noa Reyes, since her dad’s a big political figure. She wants me to start being nice to her ‘n stuff,” Jimin sighed, slumping over in his bed.
It wasn’t uncommon for children of Ministry officials to be engaged to each other while they were still at Hogwarts, especially those who were Purebloods. As Jimin was the eldest child in his family, it was only a matter of time before his parents brought up marriage.
With a grimace, Yoongi said in an apologetic tone, “Damn. That’s awful. Is there any way you can get out of it?”
“No,” the pink haired teen let out a sigh, “But Noa is nice and all… she’s in Guk’s year, but our house. We could be friends, but I’m just not straight.”
They weren’t able to come up with any solutions that night, and when they told Jeongguk the next morning, the brunet slammed his hand down on the table in his rage, drawing way too much attention to them.
“She can’t do that!” he whispered yelled, eyebrows furrowed, “That’s like, abuse, right??”
Sighing, Jimin shook his head, strands of pink hair bouncing around, “No, believe me, I’ve already looked for a way out.”
The trio seemed to deflate, looking grimly down at their plates of breakfast, none of them really having an appetite from that point on. Just as Yoongi was about to change the topic, none other than Noa walked up to them, with a large smile on her face as she looked at Jimin.
“Morning, Jimin! So, you’ve heard the news by now, right?” She was looking much too happy, especially compared to the gloomy trio in front of her.
“Yeah, just yesterday afternoon. A little sudden, huh?” a nervous laugh slipped from Jimin’s lips.
However, the ravenette just continued to smile, her bright expression starting to get on Yoongi’s nerves, “Yeah, I guess, but I don’t mind! Anything to help my dad. Uhm, anyways, you want to walk to class together? I’m heading upstairs.”
Stifling a sigh, Jimin gave in and reluctantly nodded, standing up and grabbing his bag, “Sure, I’m heading that way too..”
After sending a small smile towards his friends and giving them a little wave, Jimin left the Great Hall with Noa, his shoulders slumped over more than usual.
“God, this is awful. His mom knows that he’s gay, right?” Jeongguk murmured, gingerly taking a bite of toast.
With a snort, Yoongi retorted, “Like she cares. All she cares about is her image.”
A familiar laugh rang through the air, easily cutting through all the other sounds in the Great Hall, gaining Yoongi’s attention. He could see Seokjin chatting with Hoseok, who was new ly appointed as the Hufflepuff Quidditch captain, while they walked towards the doors of the Great Hall.
“...excited for the first meeting! I can’t believe we actually got permission to start the club,” Seokjin was saying, his plush limps spread into a smile.
“Well, Professor Cillian was more than happy to have students interested in astronomy, you know her,” chimed Hoseok, earning a giggle from Seokjin, “Even though I doubt we’ll be doing much involving astronomy during the meetings...”
Their conversation floated out of Yoongi’s range of hearing as they walked farther away, but Yoongi’s eyes still remained on the back of the blond’s head.
While Yoongi was walking to his second class of the day, he heard someone shouting his name, which never happened. So, with furrowed brows, Yoongi turned around, only to see none other than Taehyung Kim hurrying towards him with a small smile on his face. The kid was a Hufflepuff Quidditch player in Jimin’s year, but was also crazy popular. One would have to be blind to go to Hogwarts and not know who the lilac haired teen was.
“Yo, Yoongi, can I talk to you for a sec?” he asked, and Yoongi warily nodded, letting the younger boy lead him into a nearby empty corridor.
“What do you want?” his voice was as nonchalant as possible, as he didn’t trust the lilac haired teen at all.
Ignoring Yoongi’s tone, the teen smiled shyly, absentmindedly ruffling his hair, “You’re friends with Jimin Park, right?”
When Yoongi nodded, Taehyung continued, “Uhm, so could you do me a tiny favor? Like, asking Jimin what he thinks of me, but don’t let him know I asked you to do it? I’d talk to him myself, if, uhm, we were still friends… but you’re the next best option!”
Yoongi blinked a few times, trying to process what Taehyung was asking him. From the lilac haired boy’s shuffling and pink cheeks, it really seemed like he had a… crush on Jimin. That would’ve been a mixture of terrible and great, for a couple of reasons. Yoongi remembered how for a solid three plus years, Jimin had a huge crush on Taehyung. The pink haired young boy had it bad for the lilac haired teen, developing a crush on him when they were just little first years. Taehyung was the only student to talk to him, as others didn’t because of the rumor that Jimin’s family was full of active Death Eaters. Over time, the rumors died down somewhat, but Taehyung stuck with Jimin during their first year.
But as second year for the two rolled around, Jimin’s parents expected him to hang out with a higher caliber of people, and Taehyung was easily able to make new friends (None other than Hoseok, Namjoon, and Seokjin), and the two drifted apart friendship-wise, but Jimin never let go of his feelings for the lilac haired teen. Once the mishap with Jimin’s mom happened, the pink haired boy stopped talking about Taehyung all together.
“Do you like Jimin?” he asked bluntly, making Taehyung’s eyes go wide.
“Uh,” the lilac haired boy went quiet for a few seconds, “Don’t tell him, please.”
With a teasing smirk, Yoongi shifted his weight to one foot, popping out his hip, “Well, I am his friend, so I’m pretty loyal to him. What’s stopping me from telling him now?”
The color drained from Taehyung’s face, and Yoongi knew he took it a little too far, “I’m just joking, sorry. I’ll ask Jmin.”
“Thank you so much!” he beamed, happy exterior back again, “I was sooo worried that you’d say no… because...”
“‘Cause everyone thinks I’m an asshole,” Yoongi finished, earning a sheepish smile from the lilac haired teen.
Taehyung nodded slowly, letting out a small laugh, “But I don’t believe most rumors. I mean, if I did, I’d think Jimin was a Death Eater, and I know he’s not. He’s just too sweet to be evil! Uhm, anyways, thank you again. We both should head out to class.”
The two said goodbye and went their separate ways to go to class, thoughts whirling around Yoongi’s head. He’d heard Jimin mention things about Taehyung in the past, mentioning how gorgeous he was and fanboying about him during Quidditch matches. But Jimin’s mom made it impossible for him to date any other boys, as she had power and connections inside as well as outside of Hogwarts.
Luckily, Yoongi made it to his Potions class on time, sitting down at his seat several minutes before the bell rang and before Professor Jones was in the classroom. Placing his things down on his desk, he glanced around the classroom, and of course, his eyes landed on Seokjin, darting across his chocolate brown, doe-like eyes and plush pink lips. However, the Gryffindor noticed Yoongi staring, turned his head, and made a face at him.
“What’re you staring at, Min?” he sassed with his perfect eyebrows furrowed.
With red cheeks, Yoongi spat out some excuse, eyes darting down to his textbook. God, he hated how Seokjin always looked at him with such malice, he just wanted the blond to care for him as much as Yoongi himself did. Yoongi shook his head to try and rid himself of those thoughts, as they wouldn’t help him focus during class.
Smiling to himself, Yoongi lightly touched the pink petals of the small flower as he watered the plant, “Ah, my dear Moonany, you’re growing up so fast. I’m so proud of you.”
Some of the plants in the room seemed to swell with happiness at the sound of Yoongi’s voice, and he moved onto the next plant, a plant with several blossoms that changed into a bright shade of yellow when Yoongi neared it. Moonany
“I see that you’re functioning well, Henjelica,” he said in a soft tone, watering the flower as well.
Before Yoongi could water the next plant, someone knocked at the door of his plant nursery, and once he turned around, he saw the face of Seokjin peek through the door. A smile broke across Yoongi’s face at the sight of the teen.
“I brought food for my favorite person. I haven’t seen you all day, and I know how you forget to eat when you’re here,” the brunet held up a bag as he entered the plant nursery.
Once he put the bag full of food on a free table, the ravenet ripped open the bag and grabbed one of the sandwiches from within the bag and immediately started to eat it.
With a giggle, Seokjin sat down next to Yoongi, “I knew you’d be hungry,”
Once the two of them finished their sandwiches, Seokjin pressed a small kiss against Yoongi’s cheek, “How are the children doing?”
Yoongi replied with a small laugh, “They’re doing great, I’m sure you being here will make them happier. I know you being here makes me feel happier.”
His cheesy comment made a grin spread across Seokjin’s pretty features, “When did you turn into such a loser?”
They both let out a laugh, just enjoying each other’s company. A warm feeling spread throughout Yoongi’s chest as he looked at Seokjin, never wanting their moment to end-
“Yoongi, wake up!”
With a joly, Yoongi sat up, blinking in confusion. He was back inside of the Potions classroom, instead of outside in the Greenhouse, in the little room set aside for him and his plants. Not only that, but Professor Jones was giving him the stink eye, his classmates were staring at him, and Seokjin was snickering behind his hands. The ravenet’s cheeks heated up and he hastily smoothed out the wrinkles in his uniform.
“Sorry, Professor. It won’t happen again,” he murmured, gaining a small smile from the Professor.
Moving back to the font of the classroom, Professor Jones said in a light tone, his Aussie accent making his voice seem fore joyful, “It’s fine, Mr. Min. I was just like you during my years at Hogwarts, although I got into way more trouble. Make sure you don't fall asleep in class again by getting more sleep, m’kay?”
He was so lucky that he fell asleep in Professor Jones’ class instead of one of the strict teacher’s classes, instead of one the more strict professors out there. But Yoongi was being careless, as if his parents found out he was slacking off during class, he’d have hell to pay.
“Wow, I didn’t know you were the kind of kid to fall asleep during class,” Seokjin said with a smirk after class had ended, as Yoongi was packing up his stuff.
Making a sour expression, Yoongi stuffed his textbook in his bag with a grumble, “Shut up, Kim. I don’t need you in my face right now.”
Really, Yoongi would love to have the blond in his face constantly, but not while he was glaring at him. Brushing past Seokjin, the ravenet stormed out of the classroom, already in a bad mood, and lunch was just starting.
With a loud huff, Yoongi plopped down at the Slytherin table, where Jeongguk and Jimin were already waiting for him. The two of them paused their conversation to send sympathetic looks towards the older teen.
“Bad day?” Jeongguk asked, eyebrows furrowed.
Instead of responding, Yoongi just let out a long, drawn-out groan. His friends were the only people who knew about his feelings towards Seokjin. They even came up with a dumb codewords so that they could talk about the blond without anyone knowing: shoulders. Yeah, it was stupid and pretty obvious (Seokjin had ridiculously wide shoulders and he was only seventeen), but it had stuck.
“Let me guess, something to do with shoulders?” the pink haired teen pouted, receiving yet another groan from Yoongi.
The ravenet was stuck in an everlasting circle of hate from Seokjin, unable to break free as Gyuwon would tell their parents if Yoongi stepped out of line. He just had to stay on their good side until the end of the year, then, once Yoongi was free to do what he wanted as an adult, he’d be able to be himself. Maybe he could corner Seokjin and explain his situation, but he was such a coward that he probably wouldn’t. But as Yoongi thought about the future, he felt dread pool in his stomach, knowing that he’d have to leave Hogwarts soon.
If Yoongi was being honest, he thought Hogwarts was more of his home than the Kang manor would ever be. Although he had to put up a certain persona around other students, when he was alone or with his friends he could really be himself.
“Earth to Yoongi, did you die or something?”
Blinking a few times, Yoongi slowly sat up, realizing that the zoned out for a while, as students were starting to leave the Great Hall to go to their first class, “Oh yeah. Sorry, I’m kinda tired today.”
After shoving a piece of buttered toast into his mouth, Yoongi stood up with Jeongguk and Jimin to head off to class, Jeongguk waving and going a different direction than Jimin and Yoongi. As the two walked towards their respective Transfiguration and Charms classes, Yoongi thought it would be a chance to bring up the whole Taehyung issue. “Do you still like Taehyung?” he’d admit, his approach wasn’t smooth nor was it subtle, but it got the job done.
Jimin’s chubby cheeks were dusted a light pink and his eyes darted around the hall, “Uhm, why do you ask?”
With a shrug, the ravenet replied in what he hoped to be a nonchalant tone, “Dunno, but why aren’t you answering my question?”
“Why don’t you just stop prying into matters like this?” it was pretty obvious that the pink haired teen was irritated, so Yoongi took a step back.
“Sorry, I’ll stop.” He’d just have to politely let Taehyung down, maybe say something along the lines of “Jimin isn’t looking for a relationship right now.”
With a deep breath, Jimin tugged on Yoongi’s sleeve, guiding them to a nearby empty hallway, “Sorry for snapping, it’s just… sudden. Why are you bringing him up after all these years?”
“He told me not to tell you this, but he asked me to find out how you feel about him.”
A surprised expression crossed Jimin’s features, “R-Really? He, he still wants to be friends with me?”
“From what he was saying, he wants to me a little more than friends,” the words slipped from Yoongi’s mouth before he could register what he was saying.
“Seriously?!” Jimin looked elated for a long second, before deflating, “Not that it matters now. I’m engaged to Noa, it’s not like I can date him or anything…”
Yoongi couldn’t stand seeing his friend so down, and an idea sprung to his mind, “What if… you see him in secret?”
Blinking a few times, the pink haired teen thought it over, “But what if my mom finds out?”
“I’ll help you guys out, if you really want to be with him.”
After a few more moments of mulling over his thoughts, the fourth year let out a groan, “Oh God, why is life so complicated? I’ll think it over. Compare the pros and cons, y’know?”
Slinging an arm around Jimin, Yoongi smiled at his friend and nodded, leading him back to the corridor so they could walk to their classes together.
Later that day, while Yoongi was walking to the Great Hall for lunch, someone tapped his shoulder. It was Taehyung, and the two of them ducked into the nearby corridor.
“I don’t wanna seem pushy or anything, but did you talk to Jimin yet?” the lilac haired teen was shuffling, shifting his weight from one foot to the other.
With a small smile, Yoongi smiled grimly, “Yeah, I have good and bad news.”
Yoongi quickly explained the whole situation with Jimin, his mom, and Noa, to which Taehyung made an outraged expression and started to rant, similarly to Jeongguk’s reaction.
“Well, that was the bad news. The good news it's that Jimin is interested in you. But the only way you’d be able to date would be in secret, ‘cause his mom would flip if she found out. He’s still thinking about it, so he or I’ll talk to you once he’s ready.”
A huge, rectangular smile spread across the lilac haired ten’s face, and he started to bounce up and down, letting out a happy screech, “I can’t believe- I thought he hated me, he kept avoiding me ‘n I got the message and just left him alone. I-I’m so happy, oh gosh.”
It was amusing to see the fourth year jumping up and down and squealing like a child, and Yoongi couldn’t help but laugh.
“What’s going on over here, I heard- are you harassing Taehyung, Min? You’d better knock it off,” None other than Seokjin entered the hallway, sending a venomous glare towards Yoongi, with a hand placed on his hip.
“Oh, no Jin, he’s doing me a favor, not bothering me!” the fourth year replied, smiling at his friend.
Taken aback, Seokjin blinked a few times, furrowing in suspicion, “I doubt that. Taehyung go to lunch, you’re late already.”
With his shoulders slumping over in defeat, the lilac haired teen sent Yoongi an apologetic look and shuffled off towards the Great Hall, leaving Yoongi alone with Seokjin.
“I don’t know what you’re trying to do, but you better leave Taehyung alone,” the blond warned, obviously upset with the Slytherin.
“I didn’t do shit to him, like he said, I’m helping him for Merlin’s sake,” Yoongi replied in an equally as venomous tone, fingers balling into fists.
A scoff escaped Seokjin’s plush lips, “Right. So what were you helping him with?”
Yoongi faltered, going silent for a moment, “It’s none of your damn business what we do. I don’t know if Taehyung would be comfortable with me telling you, so butt out of it!”
“I’ll take points away from Slytherin.” Laughing, Yoongi cocked an eyebrow, “You can’t threaten me with that shit, I know there’s counterspells on the house point system that stops people from taking away points without a valid reason. And you say that as if I care about house points.”
“Endangering a student and refusing to give the Head Boy information are valid reasons.”
Anger coursed throughout Yoongi’s body at the blond’s behavior, “Can you just fuck off for once?! You don’t always have to
be Seokjin Kim, the fucking hero of Hogwarts, battling the evil sorcerer Yoongi Min!” “You're pretty damn evil to me! You called me a fag when I was trying to be your friend!” the Gryffindor yelled right back, face flushed red as he shook with fury.
Flinching and taking a step backwards, Yoongi faltered, “I-I didn’t mean to nor did I want to call you that.”
“Hah,” Seokjin’s laugh was bitter, “Right.”
“If I didn’t cut ties with you, Gyuwon would have told my parents and- and they would’ve… would’ve… fuck, I wanted to be friends with you, so, so badly. But- but...why the fuck am I telling you this? Nothing’s going to change,” Yoongi felt a shudder run throughout his body, refusing to let himself tear up.
The two were left in a heavy silence, Yoongi’s eyes trained on his feet, refusing to look anywhere near the blond. With a silent, shaky breath, the ravenet willed himself to look at Seokjin, regretting it immediately. Instead of looking at him with hate or disgust, the blond’s doe-like eyes were wide, reflecting a myriad of emotions all at once.
“Fuck, don’t look at me like that. Just forget it,” but when Yoongi tried to brush past Seokjin, the taller teen grabbed onto him, pulling him close and wrapping his long arms around Yoongi’s smaller form.
“Yoongi, I’m sorry,” his voice was soft and sweet, making Yoongi’s whole face light up.
Instead of pulling away, Yoongi slowly reached up to lay his hands on the back of Seokjin’s wide shoulders, “You- don’t you hate me?”
“Not anymore. I can tell that you’re telling the truth.”
God, Yoongi had wanted that for so long, to be intimately close to Seokjin and for the blond to finally forgive him, and he felt so overwhelmed, a shaky sob started to rise in his throat.
Seokjin tightened his grip around Yoongi, rubbing his back affectionately, “Oh, Yoongi, don’t cry!”
Rubbing at his eyes, Yoongi denied the fact with a nasally voice, “No, ‘m not crying.”
“Right,” a small chuckle came from the blond, “it’s fine to cry, y’know. You don’t have to be the tough guy all the time.”
Pulling away, Yoongi dabbed at the corner of his eyes with the hem of his sweater, clearing his throat, “Thank you.”
A soft smile spread across Seokjin’s face, “No, it’s fine. Yoongi, what were you saying about your parents?”
Without much resistant, Yoongi explained his relationship with his adoptive family, mentioning how they restrict what he does and who he interacts with at school.
“Is that why you said that to me?” After Yoongi nodded, Seokjin’s face fell, “I’ve never met your parents but I already hate them.”
Yoongi laughed dryly, “Believe me, you don’t want to. I want to apologize to how I’ve acted towards you in the past.”
“I started it, I’m sorry as well. Uhm, what are we going to do now? I don’t think we could openly be friends, with your family situation and all.”
The familiarity of the conversation brought an idea to Yoongi’s mind, “In secret! We could be friends in secret, like Jimin and Tae-”
With wide eyes, Seokjin asked, “Wait, Jimin and Taehyung? What-”
Seokjin was interrupted by the bell signaling the end of lunch, sounds of approaching students echoing throughout the corridors.
“Damn, we missed lunch,” Yoongi groaned, earning a small smile from Seokjin.
“We’ll talk more later, okay?’ with one last hug, Seokjin walked past Yoongi, hurrying towards the Great Hall, most likely to grab a little bit of lunch before his class started.
But Yoongi stood there, still in a state of shock. He was friends with Seokjin. Friends with Seokjin! As soon as classes were over for the day, Yoongi met up with Jeongguk and Jimin at their courtyard to tell them what had happened at lunch. Both of the teens were surprised, Jimin’s jaw dropping and Jeongguk squawking loudly.
“No way! That’s amazing!’ Jimin squeaked, small hands clapping excitedly.
“Yeah, I still can’t believe it actually happened,” the ravenet sighed, sliding down to sit on a bench.
With a cute bunny-toothed smile, Jeongguk let out a happy sigh, “Man, I don’t wanna say jinx it, but I have a good feeling about this year.”
Later that night, when Yoongi had emerged from the shower, his mop of wet black hair sticking to his forehead, Jimin was sitting on the elder’s bed, dressed in his pajamas, pillow held tightly against his chest. Once Yoongi was sitting next to him, he let out a little nervous noise.
“So I’m gonna talk to Taehyung tonight, at the Astronomy Tower. About the thing,” he said, voice trembling with anxious energy.
A gummy smile spread across Yoongi’s pale features, “That’s great, Jiminie. Let me know if you need any help, okay?”
A few minutes later, Jimin snuck out of the dormitory, on his way to meet up with the Hufflepuff. Yoongi was worried that something would happen and couldn’t fall asleep, choosing to stay up reading until the fifth year returned. When the door to their dormitory opened softly, Yoongi tossed his book aside and looked up. The teen’s pink hair was ruffled up and his lips swollen, and his hand was covering the right side of his neck as he bashfully shuffled over to his bed.
“So, I’m assuming it went well,” the ravenet teased, making the younger teen groan in embarrassment, “And I’m also assuming that the two of you made out.”
Flopping onto his bed, the pink haired teen muffled his shriek in his pillow, before mumbling, “I’m dating Taehyung Kim. Merlin’s beard!”
Somehow, the two of them were able to fall asleep that night despite the exciting day they had. Of course, the next morning, the two Slytherins were a little groggy after staying up later than usual, but were able to make it down to breakfast shortly after Jeongguk arrived.
During Potions class, instead of tossing insults at each other, Seokjin and Yoongi secretly sent smiles and glances towards each other when others weren’t looking. It was different, but a good kind of different. At the end of class as the blond was leaving the classroom, he subtly dropped a small piece of paper on Yoongi’s desk, which read “Astronomy Tower, tonight after curfew.” As soon as the ravenet read the message, the ink disappeared off the paper, Seokjin’s fail-safe incase someone saw the note.
Although Yoongi wasn’t one to sneak out after curfew, he found himself in the Astronomy Tower that night eagerly awaiting Seokjin’s arrival. He fiddled with the sleeves of his pajama shirt as he sat on the steps leading into the tower, slightly flinching in surprise when he heard the door to the tower open behind him.
“I’m glad you actually came,” the blonde said, smiling as he sat down next to Yoongi.
The Gryffindor was almost drowning in a large, yellow sweatshirt, over a pair of grey yoga pants. Needless to say, Yoongi rarely saw Seokjin without his uniform, the only times he had were when he saw glimpses of him during Hogsmeade trips on on the Hogwarts Express on the way to Hogwarts, and felt slightly overwhelmed by the blond’s attractiveness in casual clothing.
“Yeah, I mean, you asked me to,” the ravenet said slowly, feeling a little embarrassed, “Uhm, so why’d you want to meet here?”
Bumping their shoulders together, Seokjin sent a grin towards the shorter teen, “Well, I was thinking we could try to get to know each other better. Y’know make up for the lost time?”
A warm feeling spread throughout Yoongi, happy that Seokjin really wanted to be friends with him and get to know him, despite their rocky past. So the two teens were up until the late hours of the night, discussing their interests and talking about life.
“You’re still growing those plants, right?” Seokjin asked, making Yoongi’s face flush.
With a hand pressed against the back of his neck, Yoongi mumbled, “You remember that?”
“It’d be hard to with Professor Stone raving about your projects all the time, saying that you’re the best botanist slash herbologist of the century. I think it’s pretty impressive, especially since you’re so young,” the blond’s voice took on a teasing tone.
“You’re only three months older than me, we’ve already discussed this! And while we’re on the topic of being impressive, look at you! I heard you had an internship at St. Mungo’s last summer, and they rarely give out student internships,” Yoongi argued, making Seokjin blush from the praise as well.
The two only decided it was time to go back to their dormitories when they were both yawning, although neither of them wanted to leave. They walked as far as they could together before saying their goodbyes and parting on their separate ways to their dormitories.
For the next few weeks, the two teens would meet at the Astronomy Tower almost every night, although there was a few times they had to cancel as they had important tests the next day. They continued to grow closer during their nightly meetings, something Yoongi never thought would happen.
“Yoongs, are you ever going to go against your family?” Seokjin had brought up in a small voice one night, his large shoulders hunched over.
His sudden deep question took Yoongi by surprise, who answered hesitantly a few beats later, “I.. don’t know. Once I’m out of the house, maybe. I’d love to just tell them all to fuck off, but I’d be thrown out of the house in a millisecond.”
“If anything ever happens, or if you don’t feel safe there, you’re welcome at my house. I mean, my mother’s a muggle, but you two would get along! She’s a florist, she runs her own flower shop and everything. We actually live above it,” the blonde said sweetly, his comment about his mom making Yoongi perk up.
“That’s really cool!”
Seokjin jumped into an explanation of his childhood, how he spent afternoons with his mother in the flower shop, talking with customers while doing his homework. With every word, Yoongi fell deeper and deeper in love with Seokjin.
“You’ve been happier than ever these days, Yoongi,” Jeongguk had mentioned during breakfast a little over a month after Seokjin and Yoongi started to meet at the tower every night.
With a small smile, Yoongi buttered a piece of toast and took a bite out of it, “Have I?”
“We all know it’s all because of Yoongi’s mysterious midnight excursions with shoulders. Have the two of you been making out or something?” To accent Jimin’s question, the Ravenclaw made kissy noises directed at Yoongi.
“Shush, you. Let me be happy for once,” he replied, earning more giggles from his younger friends.
Their playful atmosphere quickly died when Noa walked up to them, “Morning! Mind if I sat with you guys?”
They really couldn’t say no, so they all nodded, and the ravenette squeezed herself between Yoongi and Jimin, sitting next to her fiance. Unable to come up with a good conversation, they sat in an awkward silence. It wasn’t until Taehyung walked up to their table, a terse smile appearing on his face at the sight of Noa.
“Can I borrow Jimin for a bit?” With a relieved expression, Jimin nodded rapidly, standing up and excusing himself, leaving the Great Hall with the lilac haired teen.
Only a few minutes later, Noa stood up with a sigh and excused herself with a disappointed look, and as soon as she was out of ear and eyeshot, Jeongguk snickered at the ridiculousness of the situation.
“It’s good to see Jimin stretching out his wings and somewhat going against his parents. Maybe we’ll be able to do that,” Jeongguk said with a sad smile, stabbing a sausage on his plate with his fork.
“On a happier note, how’s Quidditch going?” at the sound of the sport, the brunet perked up, smile spreading across his face.
“I convinced Wonho to train me ‘cause he’s such a killer beater. He keeps saying that he’ll regret helping the enemy, but that I have real skill!”
Somehow, the young Ravenclaw was able, to get Wonho, the seventh year Hufflepuff in Yoongi’s year and was one of Hufflepuff’s beaters, to train with him. Wonho was an amazing Quidditch player, already being scouted by both the international English team and several regional times within England.
“No way, that’s awesome!” Although Yoongi understood virtually nothing about Quidditch, he cared about Jeongguk and would listen to the brunet gush about the sports for hours if that's what the fourth year wished.
With a bunny-toothed grin, the brunette nodded excitedly, “He’s really been helping me improve, and he’s been talking to some scouts about me!”
During the previous summer, Jeongguk was lucky enough to be invited to a training camp with Puddlemere United, and as Jeongguk’s parents disapproved of him playing the sport, he told them he was spending the summer with Jimin so he could still be a part of the camp. Only the best perspective players were invited to the camp, so it was a once in a lifetime opportunity for Jeongguk, especially considering his age.
“Well, anyways, do you think Taehyung and Jimin are making out somewhere?’ Jeongguk’s comment made Yoongi snicker behind his cup of coffee.
They didn’t see Jimin until right before lunch when he approached his two friends as they made their way down towards the Great Hall, with Taehyung following not too far behind him.
“I’m not gonna be at lunch today, but I’ll be eating, don’t worry,” the pink haired teen shared a small smile with Taehyung, who lightly shook a paper bag that was presumably full of food.
“The House Elves in the kitchen love me,” he grinned.
With a small smile, Yoongi ruffled Jimin’s hair, making the fourth year squawk indignantly and rapidly try to brush his hair back into place, “Use protection, kids.”
Then Yoongi slung an arm around Jeongguk’s shoulder and lead him towards the Great Hall, leaving Jimin and Taehyung with matching red faces, Jimin sputtering in embarrassment. Yet again, the two were approached before they made it to the Great Hall, this time by a smiling Seokjin.
“Hey you two, I wanted to invite you, and Jimin- Well, Taehyung already asked him- that’s beside the point. Uhm, anyways, I wanted to invite you two to join the Astronomy Club. I’m the president and Hoseok is the vice president and we’re lacking in members…” Seokjin trailed off, suddenly looking self-conscious, with a downcast look, “Wow, I’m really not saying what I’ve been wanting to say this whole time. I thought it would be a good chance for us to hang out ‘n stuff.”
It was kinda adorable seeing Seokjin stumble over his words, and Yoongi couldn’t suppress a smile, “We’d love to “
While Seokjin beamed at the ravenet, the Ravenclaw beside him stiffened, sending Yoongi a glare, “Wonderful! We meet Saturdays just before curfew, and don’t worry, I have passes so you don’t get in trouble. See you guys then!”
With a wave and a cute smile, Seokjin waved goodbye, Yoongi watching in a totally not creepy way as his broad shoulders disappeared into a nearby hallway.Jeongguk nudged Yoongi’s shoulder and the two walked towards the Great Hall.
“You’re so whipped that you have to drag me along as well,” The brunet groaned as they entered the Great Hall where lunch had already started.
“Socializing with people who aren’t obsessed with Quidditch will be a good change for you,” Yoongi replied dryly, earning a small glare from his friend.
“Well, didn’t Seokjin say that Hoseok was the vice president? Hoseok’s the captain of the Hufflepuff Quidditch team, so hah!” With a child-like huff, Jeongguk plopped down at the Slytherin table, followed by Yoongi.
He would never admit it, but he was counting down the minutes until Saturday night, looking forward to being with Seokjin again. Even though it might be weird with other people there, Yoongi was elated that Seokjin was comfortable or close enough to him that he’d have Yoongi around his friends. Of course, the dark cloud that was Gyuwon hung low over Yoongi’s head, as he was worried about what could happen if Gyuwon found h]out. However, after talking more and more with Seokjin, the ravenet wasn’t as scared as his parents as he once was, as he knew that he’d only be under their thumbs until he graduated.
Saturday night rolled around and Yoongi, Jimin, and Jeongguk, equipped with passes from Seokjin, met up before heading to the Astronomy Tower together. While Jimin was relaxed, Jeongguk and Yoongi were bursting with nervous energy, as Jeongguk wasn’t one to socialize with others outside of his friend group or Quidditch team and Yoongi was always nervous when it came to Seokjin.
Jimin teased the two, ruffling Jeongguk’s hair affectionately, ““You two are such losers, the club is super chill.”
“Wait a second, you’ve been to the club before?” was the ravenet’s follow up question, to which the Slytherin nodded.
“Yup,” he replied, popping the “p”, “been going for a few weeks ‘cause Tae wanted me to join.”
His chubby cheeks turned a light rosy pink as he said the HUfflepuff’s name, to which Jeongguk groaned, “Why do I have to be stuck with a bunch of couples?!”
“I’m single, dumbo,” Yoongi snipped back, earning a cheeky smile from the brunet.
“Not for long~” he said in a sing-song voice, quickening his pace to avoid Yoongi’s retribution.
With a heavy sigh, the ravenet rubbed his temples, “What am I going to do with you two kids?”
By then they had reached the door to enter the top of the Astronomy Tower, and Jimin hopped forward to open it and enter first, calling out a greeting to whomever was in the room, followed by a suddenly shy Jeongguk. Taking a deep breath to calm his nerves, Yoongi followed after his friends, taking in who was in the tower. Seokjin was there, of course, with Hoseok nearby, who was talking with none other than Namjoon. Yoongi hadn’t talked to Namjoon in years after the incident with Seokjin, and the two of them made awkward eye contact.
“Hi Yoongi, Jeongguk! I’m really glad that you two came,” Seokjin beamed at the two, gesturing for them to come closer, “And I’m glad I’ll have a chance to get to know you, Jeongguk, I’ve heard a lot about you from both Jimin and Jeongguk.”
As the brunet sent dark looks towards his friends, Hoseok looked over at the fourth year, giving him a respectful nod, “You’re quite a force on the Quidditch field, you make my job as Keeper pretty difficult. But I’ve had the most fun during matches against Ravenclaw.”
The complements from the sixth year obviously made Jeongguk happy, as a pleased smile crossed his face, “Likewise. You’re a great Keeper as well.”
Unsurprisingly, the two were drawn into a conversation about Quidditch, and as Jimin and Taehyung were off canoodling nearby the telescope, that left Seokjin in the middle of an awkward silence between Namjoon and Yoongi.
“Uhm, I explained to Namjoon that you’re not the asshole he thought you were, so you two should make up!” Seokjin said nervously, aware of the heavy atmosphere hanging over them.
“Yeah, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean anything I said or did to Seokjin back then.”
With a nod and a small smile, Namjoon replied, “It’s okay. If I’m being honest, I missed hanging out with you.”
Yoongi felt the same way, but he knew he couldn’t hang out with any of them in public in fear of what his parents would do if they found out, “Same here, man.”
As the awkwardness was gone between the two, Seokjin was able to explain to Yoongi about their club, mainly the fact that they created it to have more time to hang out, as their friend group had conflicting schedules so often. However, they did have to do some things involving astronomy during special lunar dates, as Professor Cillian, the Astronomy professor at Hogwarts, wanted to participate with them then.
“I can’t believe the Head Boy of Hogwarts made a fake club,” Yoongi teased, earning a cute laugh from the blond.
“I’ve got all this power, I shouldn’t waste it!”
The next few hours were spent chatting with the other teens there, mainly Yoongi catching up with Namjoon and the ravenet and Jeongguk getting to know the people they didn’t know very well. It was honestly the best time Yoongi had in ages, with Namjoon spouting interesting but random non sequitur facts every once and awhile, Hoseok straight up screaming when someone startled him (or scared him on purpose, but that was beside the point), and Taehyung’s sweet compliments, mainly directed at Jimin. It was kind of gross how domestic Jimin and Taehyung were, as they were always touching no matter what, by holding hands or leaning against each other.
Yoongi soon found out in a much less obvious manner that Namjoon and Hoseok were also together, from the way Namjoon would look at the peach haired teen with a zoned out, lovestruck expression whenever the Hufflepuff was talking, and how Hoseok would constantly try to be as close to the olive haired teen as possible or would try to be in whatever conversation the Gryffindor was in, even if he didn’t understand the topic. They were really cute together, and it seemed like they could be happy with each other without having to hide their relationship.
However, all good things must come to an end they had to say goodbye to their new found friends, promising to return for the next meeting the following week. They all walked as far as they could together before splintering off in four directions to reach each of their dormitories. Yoongi and Jeongguk continued to go to the weekly meetings, even going as far to meet twice a week when Seokjin asked them. Everything seemed to be looking up for Yoongi, and he was happier than he’d been in ages.
But something weird happened during December, just the day after the Yule Ball was announced. Seokjin told Yoongi that he couldn’t come to the tower to meet up with him like they normally did, and ended up canceling on him for the entire week. The ravenet was confused and a little pissed off to say the least. No matter how many times Yoongi tried to ask their friends about what was going on, they’d just brush his question off, saying that nothing was wrong.
“Did I do something that hurt his feelings? I keep trying to approach him and apologize but he keeps bolting in the other direction,” the ravenet sighed, feeling utterly dejected as he slumped his shoulders, studying with Jimin and Jeongguk in the library after classes.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about, Yoongs,” Jimin replied, not looking up from his Herbology textbook, “Jin had been acting normal.”
When the Slytherin glanced over at Jeongguk for some support, the fourth year just shrugged, “I’m with Jimin on this one.”
So of course his friend’s sudden obliviousness made the seventh year even more puzzled, if that was even possible. Not spending time with Seokjin was really putting a damper on Yoongi’s mood, especially since he hadno idea what the fuck he did.
A week after it all started, Seokjin finally approached Yoongi after breakfast, with a nervous expression and twitching fingers, “Uhm, Yoongi, can you meet me at the courtyard after classes are over?”
“Yeah of course, but why have-” before Yoongi could finish his question the blond excused himself, hurrying off.
Letting out a sigh, Yoongi ran a hand through his messy bangs as he made his way to his class. All he could think about for the rest of the day was about what Seokjin was going to tell him. What if he was going to tell him that he didn’t want to be around him anymore or just tell him to fuck off or- he had to chill out, Yoongi was feeling way too stressed out. But as soon as his last class ended, Yoongi sat in his desk with his stomach heavy with dread. Although he wanted to see Seokjin so, so badly, Yoongi was still terrified about what could happen. But soon Yoongi found himself shuffling to the courtyard, mind buzzing with the possibilities of what the blonde would say
When Yoongi entered the courtyard, Seokjin was already there, the blonde hastily standing up when he saw the Slytherin approaching, his fingers fiddling with each other as he took a shaky breath.
“Uhm, hello, Yoongi,” he said awkwardly, clearing his throat as he avoided eye contact with the ravenet, “I’m glad you came.”
Although Yoongi wanted to be angry and salty, seeing Seokjin’s pitiful expression made all venom seep out of his heart. Seokjin gestured for the two of them to sit down on the bench, to which the Slytherin quickly complied.
“Well, you asked me to, so of course I would come,” the ravenet replied, trying to keep his voice even.
“Yeah, uhm, first of all, sorry for flaking on you this week, something came up,” it was pretty obvious that the blond was hiding something, but Yoongi was just happy that the Gryffindor was actually talking to him again.
Reaching out to tap the Gryffindor's knee affectionately, Yoongi replied with a small, bittersweet smile, “I’m just glad you’re actually talking to me. I was worried that you hated me or something...”
A worried expression flashed across Seokjin’s face at Yoongi’s dejected expression, “Oh no! How could I hate the person I have a crush on?”
With a small gasp, Seokjin smacked his hand over his mouth, eyes widening when he realized what he had said. Beside him, Yoongi was just as surprised, staring at Seokjin in shock, mouth hanging open.
“What- I- Did you just say what I think you said?” the ravenet stammered, hands balling into the hem of his sweater.
The two of them were both painted a bright shade of red, and Seokjin let out a pained sound, slouching over and hiding his face in his hands, “Damn it, I planned this all out, with help from everyone, I was gonna sing you a song and it was going to be amazing and-”
“Seokjin Kim,” the blond went quiet as soon as Yoongi said his name, still refusing to emerge from his hands, “How am I supposed to tell you that I’ve had a crush on you for years if you don’t come out from your hiding spot?”
The blond flinched, immediately looking up from his hands with a surprised expression, “Years?”
“I’ve had a crush on you since third year,” he admitted, earning a relieved smile from Seokjin.
“God, I was so worried that you’d shoot me down. I’ve been trying to get the courage to tell you all this week, but I kept chickening out. But Jimin convinced me to go for it,” Seokjin said, reaching out to take Yoongi’s hands in his own larger ones.
In all honesty, Yoongi was still in a state of shock, half in unbelief that everything was actually happening. Never did he think that Seokjin would reciprocate his feelings, and even if he did, Gyuwon- wait, Gyuwon. If they were to get together it’d have to be in secret, just like Jimin and Taehyung.
“Seokjin, if we start dating we’ll...” Yoongi trailed off when the blond gave him a knowing smile.
“Yup, we’d have to date in secret and I’m fine with that. I’d literally do anything if it meant being able to be with you,” his sappy statement made Yoongi turn bright red again, reaching out to hug Seokjin and burying his head in Seokjin’s chest.
Letting out a sigh, Yoongi mumbled, “What did I do to deserve you?”
Seokjin laughed, running his hand through Yoongi’s black locks, “I could say the same to you, Yoongs.”
Sitting up, Yoongi looked at Seokjin’s face, slowly grazing his eyes down to his plush lips, “Seokjin…”
“If you want to kiss me, you can just do it,” Yoongi blushed at Seokjin’s matter-of-factly way of speaking.
With a sudden burst of courage, Yoongi leaned forward to press a quick kiss against Seokjin’s lips. He swore he felt fireworks go off when they made contact, but Yoongi was much too nervous to elongate the kiss.
When he pulled away, Seokjin pouted, “That’s all you’re gonna give me? I can do much better than that.”
As Yoongi was about to retort to Seokjin’s cocky comment, the blond cupped Yoongi’s pale face with his large hands, capturing the ravenet’s lips with his own and making Yoongi let out a contented sigh. Yoongi reached up to grab onto the front of Seokjin’s shirt as the Gryffindor wrapped his arms around Yoongi’s waist. Before the kiss escalated too far, someone nearby let out an excited yell that sounded suspiciously like Taehyung, making Yoongi and Seokjin break apart in a flash.
“What the fuck Taehyung, you ruined the moment!” Jeongguk’s voice rang out through the courtyard as Taehyung stumbled out of a bush nearby, leaves stuck in his lilac hair.
He looked embarrassed as he made eye contact with Seokjin and Yoongi, freezing up until Jeongguk popped out of the bush and started to attack Taehyung, followed by Jimin, who tried to hold the brunet back. Hoseok emerged from behind a pillar, followed by Namjoon, the two separating the younger teens.
“You’re ruining the moment even more by fighting!” Jimin screeched, making Jeongguk and Taehyung stop fighting with mirrored meek expressions.
“Were you guys… spying on us?” Yoongi questioned, and by the other’s scared expressions, he said it in a much more menacing tone than he meant to.
With an a sigh, Hoseok replied, “We helped Seokjin out with his song so we wanted to see how it turned out. And you didn’t even sing the song!”
“Admit it, you all just wanted to eavesdrop,” the blonde teased, earning a range of bashful expressions from their friends.
“Maybe… oh would you look at the time! We all have somewhere to be right now!” Hoseok exclaimed in a overly-dramatic tone, and with Namjoon’s help, they herded the three youngest away, leaving Seokjin and Yoongi alone in the courtyard yet again.
Letting out a sigh, Yoongi said tiredly, “They never cease to be entertaining, do they?”
From that day forward, Seokjin and Yoongi starting dating in secret, meeting up in empty classrooms during lunch and breaks and spending their nights hidden up in the Astronomy Tower. But no matter how ecstatic Yoongi was to be with Seokjin, having to keep their relationship a secret was really stressful. He couldn’t count how many times someone nearly walked into the corridor they were kissing in and nearly saw them, but somehow, they’d remained a secret for two weeks straight.
“Guys, we have a special announcement!” Taehyung had gathered everyone into a circle during one of their club meetings, holding Jimin’s small hand in his lap.
While everyone else looked curious, Hoseok let out a loud screech, “Oh God, Jimin’s pregnant, isn’t he?”
His question was met with silence and deadpan looks all around, until finally Namjoon sighed, “Hoseok. Jimin can’t get pregnant, and we both know that.”
While Hoseok nodded slowly and Namjoon patted his boyfriend’s back, the others burst into laughter at the ridiculousness of the situation, only calming down when Taehyung let out a sigh.
“Can I say our super important news now?” the lilac haired boy moped, earning an affectionate hair ruffling from his shorter boyfriend, “So… Jimin and I are going to make our relationship public.”
The room erupted into happy yells and cheers, everyone happy for the couple. Once everyone had settled down, the pink and lilac haired teens shared a sappy look.
“Although I’m a little worried about how my mom will react, I can’t keep our relationship a secret anymore,” he said determinedly, earning a cute smile from the Hufflepuff sitting beside him.
“I’m so proud of you guys! Oh my God, you two are going to go to the Yule Ball together, right?” Hoseok squealed, to which Jimin nodded with a smile.
The two nodded, the lilac haired teen squeezed Taehyung’s larger hands, “Yeah, that’s one of the reasons why we want to come out now, I don’t want to go to the Ball with anyone but my Taetae.”
The next day the two fifth years walked into the Great Hall for breakfast holding hands, and as if that didn’t gather enough attention, when they sat down together at the Slytherin table with Yoongi and Jeongguk, Jimin pressed a kiss to the lilac haired teen’s cheek, being the extra person he was. As soon as his plump lips made contact on the tan boy’s cheeks, the nearby students erupted into gasps and whispers, rumors already being thrown across the room.
There was no dramatic reveal of their relationship, but the news spread through Hogwarts like a wildfire, and luckily for the couple, no one harassed them. People did point and stare in the corridors, but no one called them rude names, at least not to their faces.
But never did an angry response or Howler from Jimin’s mother come, rather, a long letter was delivered to the pink haired teen by his family’s owl, and, after the Slytherin spent a few heavy minutes reading the letter, tears forming in the corner of his eyes as his plush lips spread into a smile.
“Mother- Mother broke off the engagement. She says she’s sorry for how she treated me, ‘cause she doesn’t want to lose me, and she wholeheartedly accepts our relationship. Tae, she wants you to visit during the Christmas Holiday!” Jimin said quickly, unable to hide his happiness.
Everyone was so happy for the two, as they were all very worried about how Jimin’s mother would react. But Yoongi couldn’t help but feel pangs of envy, as he wasn’t sure his family would be as open minded.
Throughout the rest of the week the thought about what they were going to do for the Ball kept swirling around the ravenet’s head. In all his years at Hogwarts, Yoongi had never attended the Ball, disliking large crowds and really having no reason to attend. But he knew that Seokjin had attended for years, with and without a date, and didn’t know what the blond wanted to do now that they were together.
“Seokjin, are you going to attend the Ball?” Yoongi asked softly while they were sitting in the Astronomy Tower a few nights after Jimin and Taehyung told the school about their relationship, unsure of how Seokjin was going to react.
“I’m not sure, really. The last few years I’ve gone with Hoseok and Namjoon as a group, but they got together last year so I’d feel like a third wheel around them,” he replied, letting out a light chuckle.
Nodding as the ravenet wasn’t sure how to continue the conversation, Yoongi reached out to hold Seokjin’s hand, earning a joking comment from the blond, “What a loser, trying to hold my hand,” But the Gryffindor gladly took Yoongi’s smaller hand in his own bigger one, lacing their fingers together.
“Uhm, so I was thinking…” Yoongi started, but trailed off as he tried to organize his thoughts.
With a faux gasp, the blond teased, “That’s never a good thing!”
“Shut up, you. I was gonna ask you to the Yule Ball, but I don’t think I want to go with such a smart ass,” As soon as the jest left Yoongi’s lips, Seokjin’s eyes widened in surprise.
The blond haired teen’s face was flushed, and he stammered out a few syllables, “You- wait, what?”
“Shit, that wasn’t how I was gonna ask you. Fucking up confessions seem to be a recurring theme for us,” Yoongi sighed, wringing his hands with embarrassment.
“Yoongi, I’d love to go to the Ball with you, but, aren’t you worried that your brother will see,” he asked hesitantly, obviously not wanting to get his hopes up.
Taking a deep breath, Yoongi continued, “I was thinking, I really care about you, and I’d rather not have to hide our relationship than have my family’s approval. I don’t care about them ‘cause I-I… love you.”
Seokjin’s eyes opened wide at Yoongi’s sudden confession, his cheeks heating up rapidly, “Yoongi… I love you too.”
Leaning towards the shorter teen, Seokjin cupped his face with his large hands before capturing Yoongi’s lips with his own. Yoongi’s hands flew to Seokjin’s chest, balling up the Gryffindor's sweater to pull him closer.
Luckily they still had time before the Ball, so during their next Hogsmeade trip, they picked out matching dress robes. When they told the news to their friends, everyone was overjoyed for them. But when the night of the Ball rolled around, Yoongi was full of nerves, staring at himself in the mirror once he finished getting ready. His hair was parted to show his forehead and Jimin had helped him apply some mascara, eyeliner, and lip gloss. Although he knew Seokjin would appreciate how he looked no matter what, Yoongi still felt nervous about how he looked. However, when Jimin walked up behind him and beamed, the ravenet felt better.
“Wow, Yoongi, you look great!” The fifth year said excitedly, before reaching over to Yoongi and adjusting his tie, “There, perfect. Ready to go meet up with everyone?”
With one last nervous inhale and exhale, the ravenet nodded and followed the pink haired teen out of their Common Room, where several of their equally fancy dressed peers were waiting and chatting, excited for the Ball. The two friends made their way up the stairs leading out of the dungeons and towards the corridor they chose to meet up at before heading to the Ball.
When they entered the corridor, everyone else had already arrived, standing and chatting. Yoongi immediately made eye contact with Jin, who looked gorgeous, not that he didn’t look gorgeous on a daily basis. But the blonde looked especially nice in his dress robes and makeup, his plush lips looking even more impossibly pink than usual.
“Yoongi, you look amazing,” the Gryffindor said, stepping closer to take his hands in his own.
“You should see yourself,” he replied with pink cheeks.
The night went by in a flash, full of laughter and twirling around with Seokjin. Although people were looking at them, Yoongi’s eyes never left Seokjin. The Ball ended much too soon for Yoongi’s liking, and he found himself in his bed after it was over, unable to remove the dumb smile from his face.
“I love him,” he sighed out, Jimin laughing softly.
But their peacefulness didn’t last very long, as the very next morning, a Howler was delivered onto the ravenet’s lap, exploding into the air immediately.
“ YOONGI MIN,” Yoongi’s adopvite mother’s voice rang out throughout the hall, making the ravenet flinch,“HOW DARE YOU EMBARRASS US BY BEING HOMOSEXUAL. WE GAVE YOU A HOME AND YOU THREW IT ALL AWAY, YOU UNGRATEFUL BRAT. YOU ARE NOT WELCOME IN OUR HOUSE. NEVER RETURN TO OUR HOUSEHOLD. ”
As the Howler burned itself away, Yoongi’s face was pale, knuckles turning white where they were shoved into his lap. With a downcast expression, Seokjin wrapped his long arms around the shorter teen.
Indignation quickly flooded Yoongi’s veins instead of sorrow, furious at how his adoptive mother treated him both then and in the past. He wasn’t going to let her throw him around any more, he didn’t need her approval.
“Yoongi,” Seokjin said slowly, his perfect brows furrowed.
He gave the blonde a warm smile, surprising Seokjin by his behavior, “I kinda feel relieved. Like, now that they’re out of my life, it’s like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders.”
“You can stay with me, then,” replied Seokjin warmly, reaching out to squeeze Yoongi’s hands.
Yoongi wondered why he hadn’t ditched the Kangs earlier on, but it didn’t matter at that moment because he knew Seokjin would be by his side no matter what.
The rest of the year went by smoothly and happily for everyone, but they couldn’t help but feel melancholy as the end of the last term was coming up. They all knew Seokjin and Yoongi would be graduating that year and moving on from Hogwarts, a bittersweet thought for everyone.
“Yoongi!” Seokjin shrieked in joy, sprinting into the courtyard to all but throw himself into the ravenet’s arms, “St. Mungo’s sent me a letter! They want me as a junior Healer after I graduate!”
Of course Yoongi was happy for Seokjin, as it was the blonde’s dream to work at the hospital, “Merlin’s beard, that’s amazing!”
But it brought the thought of what would happen to them after they graduated to Yoongi’s mind, the thought that they may be separated being too hard for the ravenet to bear.
“Yoongi,” Seokjin’s voice drew him from his melancholic thoughts, “This doesn’t mean we’re breaking up, you know. I, I think we should move in together when we graduate. If you want, of course.”
A dumb smile crossed Yoongi’s face as he reached out to brush his fingertips across Seokjin’s cheek, “Of course I want to, dumbass.”
Letting out a melodic laugh, the blonde embraced Yoongi yet again, “Do you have any plans for after you graduate?”
“Well, I’ve been talking with Professor Stone, and he’s contacted a few herbologist organizations about me. Hopefully they write back soon,” the ravenet replied with a bashful smile.
“No matter what you end up doing, you won’t be able to ditch me,” teased Seokjin, earning a small playful shove on the shoulder from Yoongi.
By the time the End-of-Term Feast rolled around, the two had come up with a pretty solid plan: they’d stay with Seokjin’s mother until they could find their own place, and then they’d move in together. As the two could both Apparate to work, location didn’t matter as much, but Seokjin preferred to be closer to his mother. Seokjin would be working at St. Mungo’s and Yoongi had a job at Magic and Botany, a herbologist organization that worked on creating new kinds of magical plants, just like what Yoongi had been working on for years.
Although they’d dearly miss their friends, both Seokjin and Yoongi were exhilarated to begin a new chapter of their lives together. Instead of sitting at their respective hous tables, they all gathered at the Gryffindor table, if to only spend a little more time all together. Hoseok was already crying when he arrived, and it was obvious that Taehyung was going to follow suit soon.
“You guys will be able to visit us all the time, don’t worry,” Seokjin cooed at Hoseok, reaching across the table to gingerly wipe the tears from his cheeks.
With a loud sniff, Hoseok choked out, “I know, I’m- just gonna miss you.”
Hoseok’s crying made everyone else grow even closer to tears, until Taehyung’s cheeks were just as wet as Hoseok’s and Jimin was wiping at his nose as discreetly as possible.
“Stop crying, you’re gonna make me cry!” Yoongi bit out, although his eyes were as wet as Namjoon’s were.
“Seokjin, you’re gonna be an amazing Healer, and Yoongi, you’re gonna make the best plants ever,” Taehyung sniffed, trying to speak through his tears.
Jeongguk was crying as hard as Jimin was, “I don’t want you to leave!”
Yoongi wrapped his arms around the younger boy and hugged him, “We’re not too far away. During the holidays you can visit. We should be happy, and celebrating, not crying.”
They were able to calm down and enjoy the rest of the feast, retelling stories from their pasts and bring up their memories at school. As everyone laughed at one of Hoseok’s crazy Quidditch stories, Yoongi couldn’t help but feel a little sad, wishing that he had gotten his head out of his ass sooner to have had more time with everyone. But as Seokjin squeezed his hand, sending him a loving smile, he was immensely grateful to be where he was.
No, he wouldn’t have it any other way.

Letting out an annoyed sigh, Yoongi continued water his first made Mendario plant, feeling irritated about how slow it was growing. From his predictions, it should have bloomed days ago, but it was being seriously stubborn. But no, the stubborn flower chose to stay in it’s bulb and not bloom.
“Dad…” a high-pitched voice spoke from the door of the in-house plant nursery, drawing Yoongi’s attention away from the Mendario and to the little girl who was staring at him with big eyes.
”Miju, what are you doing out of bed?” the ravenet slid out of his seat and kneeled in front of the small brunette, running a hand through her bangs.
She was dressed in pajamas with his small fists closed around a stuffed cat, “Papa didn’t give me a good night kiss.”
Yoongi pursed his lips, ‘Well, papa has to work late today, but he’ll be here in the morning, I promise. I’ll tuck you in again, okay?”
Once she nodded and outstretched her arms to Yoongi, the ravenet picked her up and carried her up the stairs to her room, where her older brother, Yunseo, was still fast asleep in his own bed. Once Miju was tucked into her bed, he pressed a kiss to her forehead.
“Night, Mimi. You’ll see papa in the morning, okay?” the brunette nodded, smiling sleepily.
“Night night, dad,” she mumbled, her eyes already closed.
With a small smile, Yoongi closed the door behind him and decided to head over to his own bedroom. But even as he laid in his large bed, Yoongi couldn’t sleep, feeling too cold being alone in the bed. Only a few minutes later, he heard the front door unlock and creak open and he sat up right away, waiting for his favorite man in the world to walk into their bedroom.
The bedroom door opened and Seokjin stepped through, still dressed in his Healer’s robes with a tired expression. But his lips spread into a smile when he saw Yoongi, all fatigue gone in a second.
“Babe, hey,” Seokjin murmured, walking towards the bed and reaching out to embrace Yoongi.
The ravenet stopped the blonde from hugging him, earning a confused look from Seokjin, “Change first. I’m not running anymore shirts by getting potions stains on them from you.”
Laughing quietly, Seokjin quickly got changed into a loose t-shirt and boxers, climbing into bed and snuggling next to the ravenet, “How was your day?”
“Normal. Hoseok dropped by with Haneul, so he, Yunseo and Miju played while we talked. He invited us over, along with everyone else and the kids, for a barbeque this weekend,” Yoongi replied as Seokjin wrapped his arm around the shorter man.
With a small hum, the blonde smiled at his husband, “I think that will be fun. I can’t wait to see Minsoo, he’s so small and cute. Reminds me of when Seo was a baby. Do you think Jeongguk will bring his fiancee? That kid’s been so busy with Quidditch, I don’t know if he himself will actually come.”
Shrugging a little, Yoongi nuzzled closer to Seokjin, “I’m sure he will, he never misses a get together. And I’m sure Jimin and Taehyung will bring Minsoo, he’s their son after all.”
“Don’t be smart with me,” Seokjin poked Yoongi’s ribs, making the ravenet laugh.
Seokjin tried to stifle a yawn, but he didn’t do it well enough, and Yoongi furrowed his eyebrows at him, “Tired?”
“Mhmm, a little. Lot of patients today,” he murmured.
“We can talk more in the morning. Night, babe.”
The blonde wrapped hisa rms around Yoongi before replying, “Good night, love.”
