Taehyung isn't a great cook. Emphasise on isn't.
Jungkook always been the one to cook for both of them. The younger wasn’t amazing at it but to say the least he was decent. A whole better cook than Taehyung, too much to the elder dismiss.
One day, he decides, maybe he should at least make an attempt of making a simple breakfast for both of them.
It couldn't be that hard, could it?
Along with the conclusion to his research on the night before. Approximately worth 30 tabs of internet searches and histories of recipes videos on Youtube, he finally decides pancakes was probably the easiest dish he can make.
Waking up early was an obstacle, because it was Saturday. Jungkook and Taehyung always sleep in until the afternoon. It was their lazy day. But Taehyung is a determined man. He had planned this all night long, he won't let his hard work (of researching) go to waste.
He dragged his feet to the bathroom. He tries to pries his eyes open along the way. He groans in pain after bumping slightly to the doorframe.
He soon felt more awake and fresher after washing his face and brushing his teeth. He brushes down his bed hair using his finger. Taehyung nods to himself in the mirror when his hair appears acceptable enough.
He take another look at Jungkook, who was still sleeping like a baby on their shared bed before he left the room.
He grabbed all the need ingredients and put in on the countertops. Milk, all purpose flour, sugar, salt and 2 eggs. Perfect. He was lucky the recipe doesn't need complex ingredients and the fact that they had just bought groceries two days ago.
The journey of making the pancake had went well until he came across -
“Teaspoon?”he looks at his phone quizzically, “I guess it's the same thing,” he shrugged to himself, using the same spoon as he had used for sugar. He scooped a tablespoon of salt and throw it into the batter. He poured a cup of milk into the batter, smiling in proudness when his batter look similar with the video.
He mixed the batter until it look smooth and he felt his chest puffing when he was satisfied looking at the batter itself.
“Alright the tough part,” Taehyung mutters to himself, biting his lower lips nervously. He tightens the string to his apron. He turned one hand on the fire starter, his eyes shuts close as he internally praying to the higher heavens that he won’t burn the apartment down.
He let a sigh of relief when he had successfully starts the stove. He grabs a pan from one of the cabinets (which took him forever to search for but he managed).
He drizzled a bit of oil onto the pan, still carefully following the instructions from one of the Youtube video. He scoops a spoonful of batter and pour slowly into the low heated pan.
'When the edge is brown and the centre on the pancake bubbled up, go ahead and flip it over.' The female voice instructed while showing the steps of the pancake getting flipped over easily.
Taehyung stared at his pancake, feeling that it’s taking a bit too long to form bubbles.
“Hmm, I guess turning the heat a bit might help”
That's when a soft ring vibrated through his phone, indicating a new notification received. It was his best friend, Jimin, sending him a link to a compilation of adorable puppy video. Taehyung clicked on the link mindlessly, already giggling at the first clips. It was a sight of a welsh corgi biting playfully at its toy.
Soon his nose caught a burnt smell. He quickly turns his head at the cause, surprised to see the edge of the pancake had turned more than the brown it should have been.
He quickly took the pan away, and flipped the pancake into a plate. He frowns at the view of a burnt pancake.
'Hey, my pancakes is burnt now! This is all your fault!' He replied angrily whilst tapping on 3 angry emoji.
“Okay, second try.” He takes a deep breath to calm himself down. This time he push his phone aside, ignoring a few rings of new notification coming from his phone.
He stares intently at his pancake. His eyes lighting up when the batter slowly bubbles up. He cheers when he had victoriously made his first decent-looking pancake.
He made a couple more until the batter has all used up. It turn out similar to the one he had made earlier. He tops it off with drizzle of honey.
“Babe?”, Jungkook called groggily, he rubs his closed eyes as he walk towards the kitchen.
Taehyung wipes his wet hand using a towel, finally done washing the dishes (and throwing away the failed pancakes, he can’t let Jungkook see those)
“Baby! Good morning,” he chirps as he smooches on Jungkook cheek when he got closer. Taehyung told the him to wash his face first, in which the younger obliged.
“Its very rare to see you cooking. What’s the occasion?”he asked along with a smirks appear on the corner of his mouth.
Taehyung slaps on his boyfriend's arms lightly. “Yah, Jeon Jungkook, you should appreciate that I’m trying to cook something for you.” His lips pursed into a pout.
Jungkook grins widely, crinkling the corner of his eyes his eyes in delight. Jungkook leans in and peck the elder lips. “I know hyung, I was just joking.”
“Surprisingly it look… normal?”
“Of course it is,” insulted by the younger innocent comments. “From now on you’re not the only one who can cook in this house,” he huffs.
“Hurry up, eat it, tell me how it taste like,” tucking both of his palm under his chin. He worries his lower lips as he looked at the younger expectantly.
Jungkook took a big bite before his face morphed into a cringe. He quickly gulps down banana milk to wash down the saltiness of the pancake.
“Well,”Jungkook starts. “It's definitely salty- just like you”. He grins nevertheless and leave kisses on Taehyung nose, in attempt to cheer him up.
(And it did managed to cheer him up. Along with a newfound determination to advanced to the next level with his cooking skill)
