When They Met

Summary:

Toshinori is just past 14 when he first meets him. All for One. Really, he expected to eventually meet the mystery man the rumours talked about. After living most of his life on the streets as a useless, quirkless kid, then being taken in by the kind, (albeit strange) woman who didn’t seem to bother hiding her title of One for All, villainous partner to the great All for One, he expected to someday end up meeting Nana’s counterpart.

What he didn’t expect was to meet the villainous legend so soon, or for the man behind the name to look the way he did.

Notes:

this is really just a short blurb of an au im thinking about writing at some point!! I like the concept of Izuku BEING All for One in a drastic AU, and essentially in this version, instead of being enemies, One for All and All for One retained their family bond and were partners, and each One for All user after has been sort of a family member to Izuku, and with nobody to stop him, (and personally, i feel like Izuku with his intelligence and perception and knowledge of quirks and quirk theory would be an incredibly powerful enemy) they took control over most Japan.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Toshinori is just past 14 when he first meets him. All for One. Really, he expected to eventually meet the mystery man the rumours talked about. After living most of his life on the streets as a useless, quirkless kid, then being taken in by the kind, (albeit strange) woman who didn't seem to bother hiding her title of One for All, villainous partner to the great All for One, he expected to someday end up meeting Nana's counterpart. What he didn't expect was to meet the villainous legend so soon, or for the man behind the name to look the way he did.

The great All for One, the man behind the scenes of Japan's government corruption, everyone knew his name, knew that whoever this man was, he had been controlling the world around them since the beginning of quirks. The government hardly bothered hiding his connections anymore, no longer denying how each move made was influenced by him, demanded by him. Only semantics prevented him from being in total control. Most assumed he already was. His partner in crime didn't even bother hiding her title, and neither had the previous two who held that title before her. Heroes still pretended to try and stop his control, but even the public knew it was all a poorly veiled hoax. All for One was too powerful to be fought; he didn't even need to make a public appearance to get what he wanted, hadn't bothered to make one in decades.

Meeting the legend wasn't something just anyone did. Those who sought an audience with the man either were a part of his inner circle, or were found dead not long after supposedly meeting with him. Toshinori hopes he's in the the former group. But after being ushered into that guarded office by an overly enthusiastic Nana, he wasn't sure what he was supposed to want from this encounter anymore.

Toshinori had a lot of expectations and theories on what the man would be like. Nana tended to drop accidental hints to what her partner was like. Downright terrifying if made angry. Intelligent, could pick you apart with one look. Powerful in a way Nana couldn't even compare to, but if he liked you, he'd slay armies without hesitation. And with these tidbits, Toshinori put together a mental image of the man. Tall, quiet, intimidating. The moon to Nana's sun. Toshinori was completely wrong in every assumption he made. While Nana had warned him before coming into this that the man wasn't quite like people's assumptions, he hadn't expected things to be this different. If anything, the sight before him as he stood, quite literally, blocking the doorway, was surreal and unnerving at best.

He had expected the broad desk littered with various papers and folders. He even somewhat expected the pictures along the walls; Nana had mentioned he was sentimental about One for All's previous holders. What he wasn't expecting was the various stuffed animals lining the desk and shelves, the light spring green of the walls, and the teenager sitting hunched over the desk, muttering.

"Come on in Nana." The boy calls out without even looking up from his work. One hand scribbles down notes in a notepad as he reads whatever paperwork skewed across the desk surface, the other sits buried in a messy head of green curls. "I'm almost done."

Nana pushes past Toshinori on her way into the large office space, plopping herself down in one of the arm chairs that sit facing across from the boy. She nods at Toshinori, gesturing with one hand to take the seat beside her.

"I brought someone to meet you kiddo, but I assume you noticed already. He's that boy I told you bout, the quirkless kid I took in." She slings one arm over the back of her chair, sprawled casually in her seat with her feet propped up on the edge of the desk. Turning her head slightly, she shoots a comforting look at Toshinori. It doesn't help much to calm the anxious snakes coiling in his gut though. She receives no answer from the boy across from them but doesn't seem to mind. It takes two excruciatingly long minutes for him to set his pen down, neatly closing his notepad and setting the papers back into the manila folder to his right, before suddenly he jolts up from where he was sitting and bounds around the desk to tackle Nana from her chair in a dramatic change of attitude.

"Nana!! I missed you!" Toshinori sits there stunned at the sight infront of him, the strong bulky woman tackled to the ground by one of the smallest teenagers he's ever seen, who one minute ago was silently going over heaps of papers and is now giggling like a child and clinging to Nana's ratty old t-shirt. "I've been stuck doing paperwork all day and it's the most boring thing I've ever done," he goes on chattering at high speed, nearly too fast for Toshinori's brain to pick up on. Nana just nods along, smiling wide with one hand buried in that green mess.

"Yeah kiddo, I bought that candy you wanted, it's in my bag right now. For real though, stop ignoring my guest, it's very rude." At her reprimand, the boy jerks up from where he was curled into Nana's chest, and his eyes immediately search out Toshinori's own. Gulping, he fights to not fidget under that stare. Bright green eyes give him a once over, face blank of emotion for a moment before whatever the boy is looking for is found and a full grin spreads across his face. In a flash too quick to follow, the boy is standing before Toshinori, leaning over to look into his face. Panicking for a moment, Toshinori jerks back, letting out an embarrassing yelp as he scrambles back in his chair. His reaction only earns him a high giggle from the boy before him.

"You're Toshinori-kun, right? I'm sure Nana's talked about me, but, to formally introduce myself," he bows deeply before standing straight once more, hands fiddling with the edge of his suit vest. "I am Midoriya Izuku, but you probably only know of me as All for One. I guess Nana didn't explain me very well, she likes to confuse people with my appearance." He shoots a playful glare her way, while she just shrugs in response at being caught in her game.

Eyes darting back and forth between the two, Toshinori feels faint at this entire encounter. Where he had expected an intimidating adult, he found a bouncy teenager, who looked only a few years older than himself. None of this can be right. Am I dreaming? Is Nana playing a joke on me?

"I assure you, Nana is not joking with you, and you are not dreaming," Midoriya-- All for One-- says with a smirk, clasping his hands in front of himself and bouncing on the balls of his feet. Oh god, he can read my thoughts, don't think of anything weird, don't think of anything wei-- Toshinori's frantic thoughts are interrupted by a muffled snort then barking laughter, Midoriya bent over and clutching at his stomach while laughing like he just heard the best joke ever. When he stands back up straight he's still giggle, tears pooling at the corners of his eyes.

"Oh goodness, you're cute! I won't judge you for weird thoughts, when I first met Nana she imagined me as one of those anime magical girls because of my suit," he ignores her squawk of indignation, instead smiling brightly at the confused blond before him. "Can you imagine, legendary 200 year old All for One in a fluffy magical girl outfit waving around a wand? Like come on Nana, I've killed thousands of people and you imagined me in a pink dress."

Midoriya and Nana go on to chat back and forth, smiling and laughing like family. The entire situation is so surreal Toshinori just stops trying to understand what he's gotten into, instead sitting back and listening to them banter. Nana laughs louder than he's ever heard her when she ruffles Midoriya's hair, and the boy grins at her before redirecting that smile at Toshinori. He's not at all like everyone thinks. He doesn't look capable of hurting a fly.

Two months later Toshinori would watch the green haired boy take down a dozen kidnapped heroes who had been caught not completely following their heroic morals with a snap of his fingers during training as an example of his power. He tells Toshinori that he could be a hero in a way society didn't tell him. He could be a hero to those who truly needed it, he could follow in Nana's footsteps and save people from the real villains. "You can be a hero," and Toshinori's stomach clenches around the butterflies beating at his insides and he tells himself to keep those green eyes on him always. Be the hero Izuku says he can be.
