Chapter Text
It all began in the year of 1000AD. When a large group of relatives from mortal families. There was mostly made up of males, although there were some females and a few children among them.
It was dark and cold with temperatures as cold as -3 degrees in the Kingdom of Alba.
The Kingdom of Alba refers to the Kingdom of Scotland between the deaths of Donald 2nd (Donald Mac Causantin) in 900, and of Alexander 3rd in 1286 which then led indirectly to the Scottish Wars of Independence.
The group of humans had to find shelter, and fast, otherwise, they would freeze to death. Fortunately, one of the members of the group had noticed a cave not too far away from where they were.
Walking into the cave, they noticed that it was almost pitch black, even though they had the moonlight shining, which was strangely brighter than it usually was.
They also had some pieces of wood and a couple of rocks that they could use for making a torch for themselves, as it was wiser to move away from the cave entrance as the cold winds kept coming in and them, making them all shiver, especially the children and some of the pregnant women.
As they made the fire torch and headed further into the cave, they could start to feel a presence, one that made even the bravest of the group want to turn and run far away as humanly possible.
"Women and children will stay behind, *Dougal, *Eachann, and *Calum. You three will stay here and protect the women and children while we scout out the rest of the cave" Finlay, the leader of the group, ordered as he drew his two daggers that were hidden within his dark cloak.
When he drew his weapons, his many brothers followed suit as well.
The group of men continued carefully. Many had two weapons in their possession. Others only had one, and those who only had one were also given an important duty at times like these when it was dark of course.
That duty was...... to carry the torches. They couldn't exactly see in the dark. They weren't bats and whatnot.
After a couple of minutes of walking, the leader, who was walking in front of the rest, came to a sudden halt. This caused the others the stop and become even more aware of their surroundings.
"Leader. What is it?" one of the men from the rear of the group asked quietly. "There is a staircase leading downwards" the leader replied before giving his men a "be careful".
They had been heading down the steps for what seemed like an eternity and their legs were starting to ache quite a bit.
It was then that the leader noticed a dim sea blue light further down the steps. Curious, the leader ignored the pain and walked faster than before. He needed to know what was causing that light.
When he finally reached the bottom he noticed a small lake. It was easily the most beautiful lake any of them had seen.
As the leader came to the edge of the lake, he took notice of a figure within the clear blue water. "Look. Something is in there at the bottom" the leader mentioned, gaining the attention of his brothers.
He was right, as they looked into the water they could see the figure of a tall cloaked man. The person was surrounded by a crimson red light, giving the brothers a reminder of blood which also caused them shiver.
Not only was the person surrounded by a light, but there was also bubbles coming from the person's slightly opened mouth, which also gave the humans a view of the white shiny fangs.
"How can he still breathe under all that is water? He should be dead. And what's with that light, and his teeth?" a man said, the hood of his cloak was no longer covering his orange hair and hazel eyes.
"Ruadh," the leader said "Yes?" the orange haired man - now identified as Ruadh - replied.
"Shut up!" everyone answered at the same time. Ruadh was the most chatty one of them all. If it wasn't for him being one of the strongest and the leaders younger brother, then he would've been long gone.
