Chapter 1: Intoxicated

Chapter Text

The nightshade dimmed. Faint laughters wafted in the air, as though it came from a different dimension, a different age. Hachisuka leaned against the open sliding door, waiting; the wooden frame’s bones dug into his skin. Fiddling with the tresses of his long purple hair, with eyes closed, he just listened to the noise amidst the screech of the cicadas and the gust of wind. He tried to find his voice, but he couldn’t, and that pissed him off.
Frustrated, Hachisuka decided to go find him. Before he could go far, he spotted Nagasone and Jiroutachi together. Jiroutachi was flustered. He clung to Nagasone and was laughing at what Nagasone said.

Nagasone laughed. He cupped Jiroutachi’s shoulder and whispered something to him. Hachisuka realized that they both looked good together. Hachisuka pursed his lips together, crossed his arms over his chest and glared at them. Upset, he went back to his room.

As he brushed his hair, he heard footsteps get louder, until they stopped in front if his room. Hachisuka paused. He waited for what was to come.

“Drink with us again Nagasone-kun.

Today was really fun!”

“I…”

A pause.

Hachisuka turned towards the door. He could hear nothing but the rustling of clothes and an awkward pause.

“Goodnight.”

“Goodnight to you too.”

This scenario kept on playing inside Hachisuka’s mind. Intoxicated, he couldn’t help but stare at Jiroutachi as the other combed his fingers through Nagasone’s hair. He was angry at the fact that Nagasone lay comfortably on Jiroutachi’s lap. Because of his frustration, he was gulping cup after cup of sake while pretending he wasn’t affected at all.

“Nagasone-kun, feels nice right?”

The last thing that Nagasone remembered before he fell asleep was Nihingou telling Hachisuka to drink Nagasone’s share of sake. Next thing he knew, a breeze sweeped through his skin and a warm hand was on his chest. He blinked. Sitting up, only when he raised his eyes did he realize that apart from him and a sleeping Hachisuka, everyone already left. From the looks of it, he was sleeping on Hachisuka’s lap and not on Jiroutachi’s.

It was a rare occurrence that he could just stare fondly at Hachisuka so he stared and stared until he thought it was about time to go back to the citadel.
Hachisuka felt light. He felt warm.

“Hachisuka fell asleep?” It was Jiroutachi’s voice.

“Yes.”

“We got into a drinking game. He was eager!”

“He doesn’t usually drink this much.”

“Do you want to sleep in my room today?” Hachisuka curled into himself, biting his lip and holding on to Nagasone tightly.

“Sorry. Hachisuka’s going to be alone in our room.”

“Next time then!”

Nagasone waved at Jiroutachi, and saw him out.

The hissing sound if the sliding doors and pitter patter of footsteps made Hachisuka anxious that he blurted out,

“You know, you don’t have to keep me company.”

Nagasone put Hahisuka down on the futon.

“We’ve been drinking a lot and it’s taking its toll on my body. Those guys are nuts! I can’t keep up with them.”
Hachisuka lolled his head to the side. Nagasone was about to leave when Hachisuka turned and wrapped his arms around his neck and pulled him, preventing Nagasone from leaving.

“Nagasone..” Hachisuka’s ears were red as he buried his face on Nagasone’s wide shoulders.

“What’s wrong Hachi?”

“You’ve been close with Jiroutachi lately.” Nagasone found the slur in Hachisuka’s speech adorable.

“It’s not… it’s not like I care but… for a counterfeit…” Hachisuka’s breath was hot against Nagasone’s neck, making the Kotetsu’s hair on his nape stand on its ends.

Hachisuka swallowed a lump in his throat. Sweat glistened on his skin like transparent beads.

“Nii-sama.”

“Hachisuka, just sleep okay? You drank too much sake.”

Nagasone tucked Hachisuka in. He was about to stand up to spread his own futon when Hachi grabbed him by his sleeve.

“Am I troubling you?”

“Of course not.”

“Then don’t go.”

That made Nagasone smile.

“I won’t . Just sleep.”

Nagasone lied down beside Hachisuka on the futon. Hachisuka’s barely open eyes blinked. He scooted closer to the other and draped his arms on Nagasone’s waist. Nagasone ran his finger through Hachisuka’s hair and kissed him on the forehead.

But you’re going to hate me when you’re sober.
