The Ghost Within these Walls

Summary:

They exchanged glances as Yuuga’s wispy form wavered in confusion as he noticed the half asleep Hitoshi looking him dead in the eyes or well the dead was looking him in the eye literally.

“Ah, Monsieur, I apologize for not making my presence known sooner, it's just been so long since I've had something new to read!”

Hitoshi blinked and took a long sip of his coffee, “What the fuck.”

Hitoshi ain't afraid of no ghosts

“Alright Mr.. Mr..?”

“Hitoshi Shinsou.”

“Thank you. Now Mr Shinsou, I am going to show you the house if that's okay with you.”

Hitoshi hummed in agreement and followed the blonde haired saleswoman through the front door, Yu was her name if he remembers right, but he could be as wrong as he often is.

The outside of the house was white, the wood surrounding the door rotting away as if the house had stood for centuries. A large barn stood next to the house’s round driveway, looking as if one touch could knock it down. The front door led to the living room, the large and elegant living room.

“This is the living room,” Yu announced, widely showing the large proportions of the room.

A layer of dust covered the room from floor to ceiling, the furniture in the room covered in cheap plastic sheet to preserve the condition. An armor suit stood eerily in the corner, the only decor other than necessities in the room.

Hitoshi stared at the armor, it gave him an odd feeling, however he could not place why.

His attention snapped back when he realized Yu had led him into the next room, a mostly empty bedroom with only a few large mirrors and some elaborate yet odd paintings seeming of French origin.

The rest of the house was standard, one bathroom connecting to the bedroom, another near the front of the house, a kitchen, and a large dining room. The only strange addition was there was that the second floor of the house was converted into a library, though most of the books were outdated.

“And- That concludes our tour. You're the first customer to have considered this house in a long while.”

“Could I ask why?”

She clicked her tongue and crossed her arms, “We normally don't show it to house seekers as anyone who has moved in prior has moved out within 2 weeks after settling in. However, don't let that turn you away-”

“I'll do it.”

“What?”

“I said I will take this place.”

“We have so many other options, could I get you to consider this, or this, or-” She flipped through the magazine on her clipboard, enthusiastically exclaiming about the other properties.

“Look, I'm a broke college graduate, I'll take it.”

The armor from the corner groaned just slightly as the visor moved up just enough for Shinsou to catch its movement in his eye.

Yu sighed at the sound and closed the magazine, “Fine, sign here.”

Hitoshi took the clipboard from Yu’s outstretched hand and read the contract before signing.

“If you manage to stay here for over one month I will lower your rent to 10,000 yen per month.”

Hitoshi grinned, was that a challenge? He would stay there over a month to prove her wrong and to reap the benefits of a large house for cheaper than the average apartment price.

“I guess they don't call me the property hero for nothing, Mount Lady House Hunters organization embraces its ‘big savings’ pretty well I would say.”

Yuuga had been laying on the couch before the door handle shook as the key was inserted, it was Yu, he knew that for a fact, but someone else was with her this time.

He perked up with excitement and moved quickly to hide as he did not wish to scare the new guest before he received the dazzling tour, eventually he settled upon hiding within his old armor decor.

The new guest was rather short compared to Yu but his purple curls made him look a few inches taller. He held a large coffee so black it almost matched the thick bags under his eyes. His clothes were baggy and just nearly reminded him of the old professor who lived there prior to the newbies arrival, though he had left due to his boyfriend being freaked out over the amount of beetles living in the barn.

Beautiful-

He was beautiful.

“Alright Mr.. Mr..?”

“Hitoshi Shinsou.”

An absolutely dazzling name~

Yuuga watched and waited for their tour to be over while full of anxieties as he hid.

They returned shortly after their tour, Hitoshi’s coffee nearly empty, meaning they must have been gone for while but he could not tell the amount of time passed.

They talked and his hopes started to fade away-

“I'll take it.”

Yuuga beamed and accidentally turned up the armors visor by his movements.

He and Hitoshi caught eachothers eyes and he pulled the visor down quicker than he opened it, placing his hands over his mouth with embarrassment.

Hopefully he won't scare away this person like the others…

Hitoshi took only 1 week to move his things from his old apartment into his new home as he had very little stuff to bring in.

Cleaning was pretty easy- Izuku had offered to help him set up the new place and he brought Shoto with him as well. They weren't exactly close much but they did share similar interests so they talked often.

Izuku even offered Hitoshi a discount to the “Zero-Gravity Construction Crew” if he ever wished to tear down the barn, when he had the money of course.

He politely turned Izuku down in favor of keeping the barn in case he ever renovated it into a office or garage space that is if he didn't move off before then.

However the house still remained to have a superstitious feeling to it, as if he were just a guest in his own home, even if he technically was due to the lease, but that is besides the point.

He had put that old armor set up into the library as it fit the theme there though with this sometimes he noticed a book or two he swore to have stacked away, to be fallen or even missing in some cases.

Sometimes he even heard faint singing in the late hours of the night, soft yet elegant before fading as he came to.

These were only mere coincidences until he had left his work out and caught the other person, he had not been alone after all.

Yuuga was a bit disgruntled when they moved his armor set upstairs, it had been a gift to him when he turned 18 because he was obsessed with the renaissance age. He wanted to be a designer and bring back fashion of the time period- But, that never worked out the way he wished it had.

He recognized Shoto when he helped clean all week, and even Denki slipped in with him a few times. Yuuga stopped him multiple times from messing with the lights but they eventually would just hide in the library or barn, depending on where people were less.

Denki kept going on about how Shoto was ignoring him after he found out Denki somehow found out how to remote control his computer to play World of Warcraft. He planned to make it up to Shoto by pranking his loud roommate to try and get him to move out even if it was going poor right now.

Sometimes they read together but Denki lost interest fast and would close his eyes long enough only until he started to fade before he would wake up with a jolt. It was truly embarrassing as Denki snored so loud he nearly some the dead, how Shoto hasn't gotten annoyed by him was a mystery Yuuga could not begin to comprehend.

Maybe he would ask Denki to mess with the house's electricity until Hitoshi agreed to move it downstairs again to the corner where it had stood for decades untouched.

However this hope was cut short as Yuuga had been careless, he had sung far too loud and awoke Hitoshi.

Yuuga froze, “Ah, Monsieur, I apologize for not making my presence known sooner, it's just been so long since I've had something new to read!”

Hitoshi blinked and took a long sip of his coffee-

I have caused another one to run away- Yuuga you have messed up again-

“What the fuck.”

Yuuga’s smile dropped into that of confusion, he had not been expecting that reaction to someone meeting his brilliance for the first time, he might as well introduce himself while the going still remained positive.

“My name is Yuuga Aoyama! Yours is Hitoshi Shinsou I presume?”

“Unless my name has changed within the last few seconds then yes I am.”

“Absolutely dazzling then~ Do you know why I am here?”

Hitoshi took another sip of his coffee and sighed before grabbing a seat, “Why don't you tell me why you are here since it looks like there will be no use trying to go back go sleep at this hour.”

Yuugas face perked up and he laughed brightly while shaking with excitement.

“Sorry, it's just been so long since I've talked to someone living!”

“So you're dead?”

“As dead as a rock- well a rock isn’t living in the first place- Dang it Yuuga get a hold of yourself- Hitoshi you get what I mean?”

“I-I think so?”

“Good good! You're probably curious as to how I died is that correct, mon ami?”

Hitoshi folded his arms, spilling the rest of his coffee on the ground by accident.

They both looked at the spilled coffee, Yuuga trying not to burst out laughing again while Hitoshi just blinked at the pile.

He grunted and kicked part of the rug over the stain before nodding as if to say ‘mention this to anyone and you'll die again’.

Yuuga cleared his throat, “Pardon my French-”

“But aren't you French? You can read the text I have to translate.”

“I know but- Okay, I ate a shit ton of glitter.”

Hitoshi deadpanned somehow even more than his resting face, “What?”

“Yes?”

“You just?? Ate glitter??”

“Glitter is always edible… except when it's not…”

“Glitter is never edible.”

“That's not what my mom used to say, she used to say a ‘teaspoon of glitter makes the medicine go down’”

“Isn’t it supposed to be ‘sugar’?”

“I am sure it is glitter! And even so, I at least became a very dazzling ghost wouldn't you say?”

“You're a moron… But whatever… Someone probably put something in my coffee…”

Hitoshi got up and started to leave the room while running his eyes.

“Good night Hitoshi, don't let the pinchers under your bed bite!”

Having a ghost around your house was… odd.

One moment you would be laying on the couch and the next a head will pop through the television, or sometimes the shadows will help translate harder passages late at night.

Yuuga tried to help Hitoshi clean up whenever Denki would come over and accidentally blow a fuse or break a lightbulb, but he was never too much help and would just offer motivational advice.

It was rough at first, but Hitoshi stayed for over the month, and over next month, and soon over an entire year in that little house.

They made close friends throughout the year, Denki and Shoto came over often and became friends to the family.

They talked about stories from the past, how Shoto ran away from his father, Denki, an old neighbor of the family begging him to take him on his leave.

Denki told of how he was electrocuted after he pulled his youngest sister away from a fallen electrical pole, but he was happy to have been able to see her grow up before escaping with Shoto.

Hitoshi told of how he used to work at a cat cafe while he was still at school, to which everyone teased him about for the month following.

And Yuuga- He told of how he grew up with his widowed mother until he passed on by his own foolishness, but he sometimes sees her ghost looking inside on the grayest of days, never entering.

Having a ghost around your house was one thing but dating a ghost around your house was another.

Yuuga asked out Hitoshi by reading a poem he found in one of his old books, it was old and sweet, until Yuuga dropped the book onto Hitoshi’s head due to his excitement.

Yuuga and Hitoshi could never hold hands or kiss or hold each other, but they tried to make it work as best as they could.

Yuuga was able to pretend to sleep next to Hitoshi while singing softly sweet in his ear to help him sleep through the toughest of nights.

They were happy
