When the World Is Falling Apart, I'll Focus On You.

Summary:

"The sound of splitting wood downstairs made Izuku jolt, and Katsuki held him tighter, making Izuku focus on him again. Izuku began to cry. He didn't want to die, he was terrified, god, he was terrified. He wanted to stay with Katsuki forever. They planned their future before humanity broke into millions of pieces. When they were stress free, when they could hold each other with no fears."

Work Text:

This was it , Izuku thought.

The groaning of the infected just outside the house told them just that. The persistent banging on all corners of the walls and the echoes of their incomprehensible murmurs filled the air around the two.

Izuku, who had been tough throughout the start of the infection, was not trembling. He shook terribly so at the thought of not being able to stay with Katsuki. That this is where it all ends. Their hard teamwork of survival, their developed relationship, their memories.

Their blood, sweat, and tears were to be no longer.

“Izuku,” Katsuki said gently. “Come here.”

Izuku pushed himself away from the window and walked toward Katsuki, his anchor. The blonde softly wrapped his arms around Izuku’s waist, pulling him in against his chest, and Izuku draped his arms over Katsuki’s shoulders, resting his head on the others chest, listening to his beating heart. Taking it all in.

“Focus on me, baby. All on me. I'm here, I've got you.” Katsuki whispered, and Izuku nodded his head, his throat closing out a sob.

Katsuki gently began to sway, Izuku following suit, his body pressed against Katsuki’s, heartbeats becoming one.

And Katsuki began to sing softly, everything else becoming background noise to Izuku. All he wanted was Katsuki. All he needed was Katsuki.

“You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. You make me happy when skies are gray.
You'll never know dear, how much I love you,” His voice broke. “Please don't take my sunshine away”

Izuku gripped at Katsuki’s shirt with trembling fists, inhaling his boyfriends scent. He smelled like home, he always did. He smelled like smoke and cinnamon, reminding his of warm Sunday mornings they'd spend together, lazing around, basking in each other's loving presence.

“I'll always love you and make you happy, If you will only say the same. But if you leave me and love another, You'll regret it all someday” Katsuki began running his fingers through Izuku’s hair, his breath ghosting over his ear.

Please. Please, please, please, Izuku thought. Please don't take this away from me.

The sound of splitting wood downstairs made Izuku jolt, and Katsuki held him tighter, making Izuku focus on him again. Izuku began to cry. He didn't want to die, he was terrified, god , he was terrified. He wanted to stay with Katsuki forever. They planned their future before humanity broke into millions of pieces. When they were stress free, when they could hold each other with no fears. They planned to have a small, apartment together to make it their own, with many plants, as Izuku begged for Katsuki to agree to. And a dog, maybe a cat as well. They wanted to adopt. They wanted a family of their own, to be able to look back at the memories and have their hearts flutter at old pictures in photo albums they'd put together. They wanted to grow old together and gain wisdom with their bumps in the future path, to raise a child of theirs for them to have a family of their own.

Izuku felt Katsuki’s thumb rub along his cheekbone, “Hey, love. Please look at me.” His voice desperate.

Izuku’s chest shook as he inhaled, and as he lifted his head, Katsuki was smiling at him so gently, so lovingly, with tears spilling out of his gorgeous rose colored eyes that he never grew tired of seeing, “Gimme a kiss, will ya?”

“Yeah.” Izuku nodded frantically. “Yes- yes.”

As their lips locked, Katsuki held Izuku's face with both hands, tenderly brushing his thumbs along Izuku's freckles. Their tears mixed as they shared their breath for the last time, as they tasted each other for the last time. They separated and Katsuki pressed his forehead against the shorter’s, and he continued.

“You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are gray,”

The groaning of the infected getting louder and louder, but they focused on eachother. They always will. Izuku's sobs got louder and louder as he held Katsuki, whose voice was strained, and cracked every so often as he tried controlling his cries.

Glass shattering, wood breaking and dragged footsteps were ignored.

“I love you, Izuku. I'll always love you, baby.”

Izuku whimpered, and looked up at Katsuki, his eyes gleaming with tears, “I love you too, Katsuki. God, I always will.”

And the infected got closer, and closer. The two held their bodies as close as possible, hoping to remember the warmth of the other from wherever they end up. Hoping to see each other soon. Hoping, hoping, hoping .

You'll never know dear, how much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away

They never got to finish the song.
