Chapter Text
In this society, buying hybrid companions was normal.
You hadn’t thought about it much since you hadn’t liked the idea of owning someone else until you realized it would be better to have one than letting them rot in a cage. Those thoughts lead to research, and you had spent countless hours looking into adopting your own companion. You’d seen that there were different types to get ; cats, dogs, bunnies, hamsters, wolves, owl’s, and rats. You looked into seeing how different each was, and which would best suit you. You were just some girl that was still in college, though had a great family to help pay your apartment and food expenses while you paid the rest. You’d been lucky enough to have saved up a little, now knowing what you wanted to do with that money.
You debated on whether you should get a cat, or a dog when you decided why not just choose when you get to your nearest adoption center? Nodding to yourself at this, you glanced at the clock. It read ‘9:38 PM’. You let out a sigh, and stood up from your computer. You made your way to the bed, slipping into the soft covers where you then fell asleep.
You awoke to the sun shining through your curtains, it causing you to huff in annoyance. It was your free day today, and the thought about buying your hybrid then got you up and out of the warm bed. You started out your day by eating a poptart (you didn’t want to waste your parents money on expensive food, so poptarts are the next best option on saving for breakfast), brushing your teeth, getting dressed into a cute short yet flowy skirt, t-shirt, long socks and a pair of converse. You made sure to look cute enough that hopefully whoever you decided to bring home wouldn’t be scared of your short, chubby self. Yes, you were chubby, but it wasn’t all too bad. Sure, you had self-esteem issues about your thick thighs, and arms, but tried not to think about it a lot.
Checking yourself in the mirror one last time, you then headed out. You knew the nearest adoption center was close, and walking there wouldn’t be too bad. You’d recalled passing by there many times before to get to your college. You didn’t live on campus, and lived alone in your decent sized apartment. You walked the streets, passing by many people, even some with their companion in hand (well, leash really). It disgusted you to see how people treated their hybrids like merely animals, when really they were people too with feelings. You vowed to treat yours with the utmost respect and love. Your [insert eye color] hues lifted up to see the adoption center and you walked in without hesitation. Your eyes found a lady behind a desk, and you approached with a soft smile. She looked up at you through her glasses,
“Yes, may I help you, Miss?”
You nodded,
“Yes, please. I would like to adopt, and would like to see what you have here.”
The lady looked pleased by this, standing up.
“This way.”She motioned you to follow her as she took out a card which she then swiped at the door, where you then entered. You could see cages, people sitting or laying in them. Your eyes danced over them, the lady walking in farther with you behind her. None seemed too nice, some even hissing at you till you saw him. This male had light brown hair, though appeared to be Korean. You were just an American and seeing someone out of the ordinary attracted your attention. He had little round ears on top of his head, and you approached his cage where he sat, munching on what appeared to be a handful of seeds. Your eyes flickered to the paper that was up. It read ‘Kim Seokjin - Hamster’. You let out a little noise in adoration, and this caught his attention. His almond shaped hues lifted, and you couldn’t help but to feel drawn to him. His features were soft, yet he was handsome as ever.
The lady was going on about the selection they had in the background of your moment with this cute hamster boy, when she noticed you had stopped at that cage. She walked up beside you, saying
“Yes! He’s very sweet, he actually knows how to do household chores, his previous owner teaching him. He can cook, clean, do the laundry, and other things like that. He’s a little more on the pricey side because of that, but I think it would be worth it.”
Your eyes roamed him, and you instantly said,
“Hi, I’m [y/n]. Nice to meet you.”
Jin swallowed what he had in his mouth, giving you a smile.
“Hello.”
He had a thick accent which you didn’t mind at all. You turned towards the lady, asking.
“How much is he?”
“Around two hundred.”
You could feel your wallet ache now, but after seeing him, you knew you couldn’t leave him here.
“I’ll take him.”
She raised a brow at you. Obviously she could tell you were just some college kid, and knew that it would definitely hurt you but she shrugged and walked off with a ‘I’ll get the paperwork for you’.
This left you alone with the boy that was now munching back on the seeds.
