Chapter Text
He comes home at two in the morning.
It's not surprising nor worrying; Shouta always works late on weekdays and even later on weekends. Such is the life of an underground hero. He arrives, normally, between one and five in the morning, giving him a few hours of solace before getting up and heading to U.A. to teach. The man works a hectic, cluttered schedule. But, then again, so does Hizashi. He normally gets home a little earlier than Shouta, so he formed a habit of waiting for him to return on the sofa of their shared apartment.
What is surprising, however, is his quiet shuffling through the doorway, covered in cuts, bruises, and everything in between. Hizashi shoots up from the couch and rushes to his husband quickly, examining the wounds all over his face and torso.
"What happened?" Hizashi asks, a worried look spread across his features as he moves to unzip Shouta from his hero costume.
"Ran into a few criminals." Shouta winces as Hizashi's fingers barely dust over his cuts. "One had a mutation quirk. You can imagine how well that fight went."
"They really did a number on you, Shouta," Hizashi says as he rushes to the kitchen to grab a first aid kit — one of many they have lying around their apartment, just in case. He undos the clasps on the side and opens it smoothly, grabbing some antiseptic and gauze, and a couple of bandaids for good measure.
Shouta winces again as Hizashi begins to clean out his various cuts. He knows he's being as gentle as he can, but it's hard to care when it feels like his cuts are being set on fire.
"I can't believe you're still not used to this," Hizashi jokes while he bandages Shouta. "You'd think you'd be desensitized to the stinging feeling."
"It hurts like hell." Shouta jumps in pain as Hizashi places pressure on a particularly bad cut. "Hey, be careful."
"I am, babe."
Hizashi finishes wrapping up the last cut, and moves on to place bandaids on the more superficial ones. He thinks Shouta looks rather silly, in all honesty, covered in gauze and various different types of bandaids, from plain to kitten themed because he ran out of the former.
"You look great, Shouta." Hizashi stifles a laugh as he admires his not-so-expert handiwork. "Super professional."
Shouta rolls his eyes as he slips fully out of his uniform, slinging it over his shoulder as he goes to put on some clothes he can unwind in. Hizashi waits patiently for his return, cleaning up the bandaid wrappers and putting the first aid kit back in the cabinet in the kitchen.
It was never easy seeing his husband so, for lack of a better term, fucked up like that. Of course, he knows of the risks that come with being a hero; they both know full well the extent of the toll this job had on their bodies. He's happy his husband isn't dead, but seeing him covered head to toe in injuries isn't something he thinks he'll ever get used to seeing.
He loses himself in thought for a bit, thinking about the effects of being a hero on their bodies. He wonders if it'll affect their relationship in the future; not to say they haven't had an argument or two about recklessness, but he's more concerned about permanent effects. Plenty of hero couples get divorced, he just didn't want to be a part of that statistic.
"What's wrong with you?" Shouta asks as he sits down next to the blond on the couch. Hizashi looks to Shouta and sighs, wrapping his arms around the other's waist and placing his head on his shoulder.
"Just thinking too hard, is all," Hizashi sighs. "I get worried about you, y'know."
"'Course I know," Shouta replies. "You're a huge worrier."
Hizashi hums and places a kiss on his husband's cheek. "Promise you won't get too reckless out there, okay? I'm quite happy having a husband who's alive."
Shouta chuckles and gives Hizashi a kiss back. "Yeah, I promise."
"Let's get to bed, then." Hizashi stands up and holds his hand out for Shouta, who grabs it tightly and stands up with him. "You're probably exhausted."
"Yeah, I am. Is it obvious?"
Hizashi laughs. "A little."
He slings his arm around Shouta's shoulders and guides them to their shared bedroom. Of course, he knows that being a hero is one of the riskiest jobs on the market, but he'll just have to worry about that another night.
