Work Text:
Seokjin was worried. He was always worried about at least one of his members. But when it came to Namjoon, Seokjin worried ten thousand times more. All of them had the tendency of overworking themselves, always giving 1000% of their energy. But, at least, the others asked for help when they had something that was bothering them. On the other hand, most of the times Namjoon tried to solve his problems on his own. Seokjin knew it was because he was the leader and he thought he couldn't burden his members with his troubles. He knew that was what most good leaders did. But did Seokjin think it was healthy? Hell no.
So when Namjoon had gathered them up one night and told them he was going to have surgery for his deviated septum, Seokjin started to worry. Namjoon had reassured them that it wasn't that big of a deal, that he would just need to rest after the surgery and he would do just that. They had discussed it with their manager and even the pd, getting some well deserved vacation time for everyone to not make Namjoon feel like he was the only one resting.
Jimin and Hoseok went to Japan to do some tv programs and also enjoy their time there. Taehyung went out with his hyungs and friends while Jeongguk decided to go on a small trip with his parents.
Seokjin had been hanging out with his friends, playing and just having fun in their company. He also had a quick visit to his parents planned in a few days, to wish them a happy new year and to make sure they were doing okay.
The only one that wasn't really on board of the “vacation time” was Yoongi, who spent a couple of days with his family in Daegu before coming back to their building and hiding in his studio. Seokjin had tried to take him out, but nothing ever worked.
But the one that worried him the most was still Namjoon. Forgetful and clumsy Namjoon, that tried so hard to pretend he was completely fine even if he could barely breathe because of the gauge and bandages and was in pain. At least he had kept his promise to completely rest, spending the prior two days in bed, occasionally reading a book or watching videos on his phone to pass the time he was awake.
That night, it was only them and Yoongi at home. Seokjin didn't pay much attention to Yoongi, not even bothering checking where the younger boy had been hiding, and went up to Namjoon's room. He opened the door slowly and as quietly as possible, not wanting to wake him up in case he was already asleep.
Namjoon was lying on his bed, his head propped up on three pillows as the doctor had suggested, a blanket covering most of his long body. His eyes were closed, but his mouth was open. Obviously, thought Seokjin, that's the only way he can breathe. He stood there, watching over him for a few more moments. Even if his face was swollen and there were dark bruises around his nose and eyes, Namjoon looked peaceful. And beautiful.
His left eye suddenly blinked open and Namjoon turned his head a little to meet Seokjin's gaze.
“Hyung?”
“Hey, sorry, I didn't mean to wake you.” he said, finally entering the room instead of just standing in the door-frame.
“Wasn't sleepin'” mumbled Namjoon, closing his eye again as he yawned. He opened both of his eyes, looking at his hyung, confusion evident in them. “What?” His voice sounded groggy and he probably had a sorethroat.
“Just wanted to check on you.” He went over to the bed, taking the glass of water from the bed-side table and passing it to Namjoon, sitting on the bed so he could help him sip it. “You took your medicine?”
“Yes, hyung.” hummed Namjoon, smiling a little.
“Are you in a lot of pain?”
“I'm fine, for now.”
Seokjin examined his face attentively, looking for any signs that Namjoon was lying to him. He didn't find any, so he nodded his head, putting the glass of water back on the bed-side table. “Do you need anything?” he asked, brushing away the hair on Namjoon's forehead.
“No, I'm fine, hyung, thanks.” replied Namjoon.
“Do you need some cuddling?” He kept his tone playful, grinning down at Namjoon, hoping to cheer him up a little. It worked.
“Hyung,” whined Namjoon. “if you wanna cuddle just say it...” he left out a soft chuckle, his hand sneaking out of the blanket and squeezing down on Seokjin's thigh.
Seokjin didn't need more convincing. He did want to cuddle, after all. “Okay, scoot over.” he whispered, getting rid of his sweatpants and climbing into bed with him. He debated for a few seconds how to actually cuddle Namjoon, since he didn't want to make him assume an uncomfortable position. Namjoon seemed to notice and came to his rescue.
“I think you can just... um, lay your head on my, um, chest...” he stuttered out. There wasn't much light in the room, only the one coming from the artificial lighting outside the window, but Seokjin was sure he could see Namjoon's cheeks get pinker.
“Okay.” He agreed, resting his cheek on Namjoon's chest. He felt warm and cozy, as if Namjoon was the comfiest pillow he had ever had. Well, he was. “But if you feel uncomfortable or in pain, you tell me, okay?” He glanced up at him, what he hoped was a warning look in his eyes.
“Yes, hyung.”
He nuzzled against Namjoon's hoodie, sneaking his arm under Namjoon's clothes and hugging him close. He started to draw small circles with his thumb on Namjoon's skin. He knew how much the younger boy liked it and how soothing he found it. They remained quiet for a long time, only Namjoon's ragged breath echoing in the room.
“Joon-ah.” he whispered after a while. He wasn't sure if Namjoon had fallen asleep or not, but he kept talking anyway. “I'm proud of you.”
“What for?” mumbled Namjoon, probably half-asleep.
“For existing.”
Namjoon suddenly stopped breathing and Seokjin could feel his heart beating faster since his ear was resting right on top of it. He propped himself up on his elbow to look at the younger boy, suddenly worried he had said too much. But Namjoon was looking back at him, fully awake and blushing a little.
“What?” he sputtered out.
“I don't know, I just felt like letting you know...” Seokjin shrugged his shoulder as much as he could in that position, smiling at Namjoon.
As if the realisation hit him only in that moment, Namjoon covered his face, whining. “Ha, hyung, I probably look so gross, right now, don't look at me.”
“I've been cuddling you for a while now?!?” laughed Seokjin, prying away Namjoon's hand so he could look at him again.
“Yeah, but maybe you couldn't really see me before and now you said that and you're looking at me like that and you can probably see how gross I really am and you're gonna take it back and...”
“Never.” Seokjin had to cut his ramblings, holding his hand in his own and squeezing down on Namjoon's fingers.
“What?”
“I'm never taking it back.” He smirked, still looking up at him. “And you could never be gross to my eyes.”
“Ha, hyung...” protested Namjoon, his lips twitching into a smile.
“You are the most handsome man on earth.” he whispered. He used his other hand to tuck Namjoon's hair behind his ear, before resting his chin on top of it again.
“Hyuuuuung.” whined Namjoon, his cheeks getting pinker once again.
“After me, of course, because I'm worldwide handsome...” he said seriously, making Namjoon giggle.
“Of course you are.”
They stared at each other for a few more seconds, matching grins on their faces. Seokjin felt like a huge rock had been lifted from his chest. Maybe he shouldn't had worried about Namjoon so much. He just needed to take care of him. His grin turned into a soft smile and he sat up a little. He leaned over Namjoon's body enough to reach his forehead and leave a small kiss there. “Get some rest, Joonie.” He whispered.
Namjoon smiled, nodding his head once and humming out a reply.
Seokjin went back to his original position, resting his head back on Namjoon's chest and nuzzling against it, his arm sneaking under Namjoon's hoodie once again and hugging his waist.
“Hyung,” whispered back Namjoon after a while.
“Yes?”
“Thank you.”
Yoongi wasn't worried. Just like he wasn't feeling lonely with Hoseok gone for a few days. He was only stopping by Namjoon's room to check if he was doing okay or if he needed anything. He knew how stubborn and proud Namjoon was to ask for help.
He opened the door slightly, poking his head inside to see if the younger boy was asleep already. When his eyes adjusted to the dim lights and he could figure out the image in front of them, he sighed. Seokjin was lying on top of Namjoon, cuddling against his side as Namjoon seemed fast asleep. He felt a pang of jealousy watching the scene. At least they had someone to cuddle.
“Ya, what are you doing standing there and creeping on us?”
He was startled by Seokjin's quiet voice, his head turning towards him to give him a confused look. He cleared his throat, biting down on his lip. “Nothing, just...”
“Just?” asked Seokjin, his look turning into a more judging one.
“Wanted to check on him but you're already taking care of him, so...” he replied, shrugging his shoulders, ready to get out again.
“Ya, where are you going?” scoffed Seokjin.
Luckily, Namjoon was a heavy sleeper, so even if they weren't being loud, they could still communicate from apart the room.
“Bed.”
“Alone?”
Yoongi shrugged again, not sure on how to answer his hyung.
Seokjin just rolled his eyes, before pointing to Namjoon's other side. “Come here, you idiot.”
Yoongi tried to look for an excuse to escape, but didn't find any. Truth was: he had been missing Hoseok a lot and feeling very lonely. He knew it was stupid, Hoseok had been gone for only a couple of days and wouldn't be gone for that long, but he had grown so used to have him around that he just missed him. A lot. And if he had to be completely honest, he was also a little bit worried about Namjoon. He just really cared about him and wanted him to be okay and healthy. All he needed was for Seokjin to glare at him some more, before he had made up his mind.
He smiled softly at his hyung as he climbed into bed with them, slipping under the covers and lying down next to Namjoon. He wasn't as brave as Seokjin to rest his head on Namjoon's chest, but he did throw a leg over the other two, hoping they would take it as his attempt of affection. Seokjin probably did since he smiled brightly and patted his cheek before going back to rest his head on Namjoon's chest, his arm disappearing under the covers.
“Wow. Am I dreaming?” suddenly mumbled Namjoon, stirring a little, but not fully awake.
“What?” asked Seokjin.
“Min Yoongi cuddling me.” mumbled Namjoon again. The corners of his mouth lifted up into an half-smile. He still had to keep his mouth open to breathe. “My two favorite hyungs cuddling me. It feels like heaven.”
The two older boys giggled, holding him a little tighter. They just really cared about him.
