Work Text:

it was february 14th, 2018, and jimin had never been more pissed off in his entire life.

for starters, him and yoongi have been dating for three years, and they have Valentine’s Day traditions.

yoongi cooks breakfast for jimin, they kiss, go to work, and go out to dinner. they usually plan their reservations as a team and choose a different restaurant every year.

this year, however, yoongi never initiated any plans which confused jimin. yoongi is the better decision maker in their relationship, so who was jimin to arrange anything that yoongi might not agree with?

in fact, when jimin woke up expecting to smell food wafting from the kitchen, he found a note on his pillow instead.

had to go into work early, love you. -yoongi :)

jimin wasn’t immediately angry- he understood. his boyfriend had to leave early on Valentine’s Day. alright, jimin said to himself. he decided to make his own killer pancakes and tease yoongi with the leftovers the next morning.

he rustled the thick comforter off of him and sat up. he scratched behind his ear as he shoved his feet in his panda slippers.

he stood up with a loud stretch and a yawn. jimin knew he had an early 7 o’clock practice that morning and realized he had to hustle. it was already 6:30. no pancakes today, then.

he walked into their moderately sized kitchen and grabbed a fruit shake from the fridge. he took a few sips and rustled his hair again. he knew his pink locks were all over the place and he couldn’t help but feel discouraged.

he quickly ate his cereal and a banana at the island in their kitchen. he didn’t want to be late.

he scurried to his room, got dressed in layers because it was cold, and left.

the vibrant colors on the buildings never ceased to amaze him. he reminded himself how glad he was that he moved there with his boyfriend.

the dance studio was a quick walk from where he lived. it wasn’t too big, but it was enough for three people.

he walked in and was greeted by his friends, jeongguk and hoseok. jimin’s mood already lightened and he decided to send a quick text to yoongi:

i’m at the studio, hopefully i’ll see you later?

the banter between the three of them died down when they realized they needed to work hard. their showcase was only a few weeks away. they’d been preparing for months.

as the time passed, the atmosphere grew sweatier. jimin felt like he was sweating through his shorts.

after a couple more hours, they took a break. it was already 10:30 am. jimin slunk down against the mirror and took a long sip from his water bottle.

“this is so fun, guys! we’re working really hard!” hoseok encouraged. he always seemed so happy to jimin. his bright fashion choices matched his personality.

“i can’t stay for long, though. i don’t know about you two, but i have plans for today.” hoseok wiggled his eyebrows.

jeongguk rolled his eyes and scoffed. “i have plans, too. tae and i plan to go sightseeing.” he defended.

hoseok was in the middle of stretching when a shit-eating grin plastered on his face. “you’re still dating him? didn’t you meet him about a month ago? seems like a keeper,” hoseok drawled.

jeongguk blushed and ignored him, instead favoring jimin. “jimin-hyung, which restaurant are you and yoongi going to, this time, hm?”

jimin grabbed a washcloth from his bag and wiped at the sweat dripping against his nose. “i don’t even know. yoongi hasn’t told me anything. i texted him when i got here. maybe he texted back with a plan?”

jimin got up and ruffled through his bag for his phone. he scrolled for notifications, and none were from yoongi. just social media updates. he pouted.

hoseok came up behind him and took jimin’s phone from him. “don’t be sad! i’m sure he’s doing something ten times better for you,” he announced as he put jimin’s phone back in his bag.

jeongguk took another swig from his water bottle. “yeah, don’t be discouraged. yoongi-hyung is in love with you,” he said dramatically.

jimin stood up off the floor and slapped jeongguk’s arm lightly. “jeongguk-ah! you can’t just say things like that,” he blushed.

jimin couldn’t help but drift back to when yoongi had first told him he loved him. it was an accident that was prompted by namjoon’s inability to shut his mouth.

“god, of course yoongi wouldn’t mind, jimin. yoongi is pretty much in love with you, he’ll do anything for you!” namjoon had said.

yoongi and jimin’s eyes widened. jimin was simply stopping by yoongi’s apartment to inform him that he couldn’t make tomorrow’s lunch plans. namjoon had piped up before yoongi even said anything.

the words held tightly in the air. of course namjoon meant to be comical, but the couple was recently realizing that, yes, they are in love with each other. both of them didn’t know how to confront the other, though.

yoongi hit namjoon on the back of his head. “way to ruin the fucking surprise,” he said whilst rolling his eyes.

jimin was still near the door and had the urge to bolt. yoongi got up off the couch and wrapped the blanket around his shoulders tighter. he walked towards jimin.

“i’m in love with you,” yoongi said simply. jimin to this day doesn’t understand how he composed himself so well.

jimin stared into yoongi’s eyes and it was like namjoon ceased to exist. his interior calmed down and he realized he could never run from yoongi. “i’m in love with you,” he said with an accent on the last word.

yoongi wrapped the tan blanket around the both of them and kissed jimin without warning. he kissed jimin like the world was a muted grey and jimin was a rainbow.

before long, jimin’s rainbow wrapped around yoongi and they were engulfed in each other’s love. there were swirling bits of color popping out of every corner of their hearts.

yoongi walked them to the leather couch and jimin lay down on top of him. he threw off the blanket and was about to feel under yoongi’s shirt, when namjoon cleared his throat.

the lovers looked up and saw namjoon standing uncomfortably near the doorframe. they forgot he was there.

“uhm- i just- sorry for ruining the surprise? i’m just- gonna... go to jin’s place.” he shoveled out.

they both continued to glare at namjoon playfully until he physically left and closed the door behind him. “use protection!” yoongi shouted, which prompted jimin to giggle.

in summation, that was the best sex jimin had ever had in his life.

“jimin-ah? hello? he’s all spaced out,” hoseok shouted. jimin blinked. he was only spaced out for about a minute.

jeongguk patted jimin’s back. “let’s rehearse that last move again, hyung. i think i’ve almost got it!” he said with determination.

jimin shook his head and stood up with a jump, encouraged by his little flashback.

and so they danced until their limbs were almost sore. hoseok and jeongguk had to get to their dates, which jimin totally understood.

it was 2:08 pm when jimin left the studio. it was 2:38 pm when jimin was standing outside his apartment door in anguish.

he had forgotten his key.

this isn’t a common thing for jimin. he’s not one to slip up. but when he thought back on it, he never put his keys in his bag that morning.

jimin sat down against the beige door onto the ugly hall carpet and checked his phone. yoongi still didn’t respond or even read his messages.

jimin was just about to explode. he scrambled up off the floor and angrily kicked the wall. it didn’t make any dents because jimin was too gentle for that, but he was still pissed off.

he shifted into problem solving mode and tried to think of solutions. he could go to the cafe and get a treat or go to the library and read a book, but he really didn’t want to be alone. especially on valentine’s day.

so a lightbulb went off in his head and he texted seokjin. he’s too hospitable to turn jimin down a place to stay. it wasn’t even two minutes later when seokjin responded with an, “of course!!!!!!!!!!”

jimin sighed and walked towards their apartment elevator. seokjin and namjoon’s apartment was walking distance from his apartment (as was everywhere else in jimin’s day to day life.)

the lobby of the apartment building was decorated in reds and pinks which only made him feel that much worse. when jimin reached their door, he knocked very weakly.

he was immediately greeted with seokjin’s model face and the smell of baked goods.

“come in, come in! you poor thing. all alone!” seokjin pouted and gently touched jimin’s shoulder as he stepped inside.

it was hard for jimin not to rip off his shoes and throw them. he couldn’t help being angry. but, he rationalized himself and politely took them off instead.

jimin looked to his right and noticed the pink heart pillows on their fluffy white couch. seokjin and namjoon were so functional it almost made jimin jealous.

“here, let’s set you up on the couch over here. let me get your coat!” seokjin exclaimed. he racked jimin’s light blue, puffy jacket with theirs.

jimin nodded and scrunched his sleeves to initiate sweater paw mode. his blue on white stripped shirt captivated him and made him look vulnerable.

seokjin escorted him to the couch and let jimin lay down. he grabbed the fluffiest blanket he could find from a nearby closet and jimin engulfed himself.

jimin also noticed seokjin was wearing a pink apron.

jimin pointed it out to which seokjin just said, “oh, you know. couple baking! in fact, joonie’s alone in the kitchen right now. i should check up on him!” seokjin handed jimin the remote and all but ran out of the room when he heard a crash in the kitchen.

jimin sighed and took it upon himself to complain on twitter and watch a disney movie.

at 4, jimin got up the couch and decided to help bake. he didn’t want to wallow all day. previously he didn’t want to bother the couple, but jimin was desperate for some human contact.

he walked in the kitchen to see frosting all over namjoon’s face and seokjin wearing a literal hair net.

“jiminie! look who’s up. i thought you fell asleep and i was like ‘okay yeah fine that’s chill’ but when i checked up on you, you were on your phone. i’m surprised your battery hasn’t died yet!” seokjin rambled as he finished topping the cupcakes they made. of course they were chocolate with white and pink frosting. of course.

jimin doubled over and laughed. “oh my god, i hope i didn’t come off as rude, hyung. i feel so bad that i’m here right now, but i don’t want to be alone. thank you so much for letting me stay here for the day!” jimin was grateful for his hyungs.

namjoon scoffed playfully. “anything for our tiny friend. here, let me get a hug!” he put down the bowl he had in his hand and walked over to jimin. jimin scrunched himself up closer to the doorframe than he was before.

“no! you have frosting all over you! you’re gonna get my clothes dirty!” he almost shrieked like a child.

seokjin rolled his eyes lightly and carefully placed his pasty bag on the counter. he stood protectively in front of jimin with his long arms outstretched.

“do i seriously need to break you two up? what am i, your parent?” seokjin yelled.

“kinda,” jimin whispered, which made seokjin widen his eyes. he immediately faced jimin with alarm.

“yah! just because i’m older than you doesn’t make me your parent! make yourself useful and take the second batch of cupcakes out of the oven!” seokjin pointed to the metal oven on the other side of the kitchen.

jimin ended up enjoyed himself to say the least. he almost forgot about yoongi while he decorated the cupcakes with pink gummy bears. he made a mess on their pastel blue counter and he almost felt bad.

jimin almost choked on a muffin when he heard his phone go off. and it was yoongi’s text tone, “bamboo.”

he ran to their couch and got crumbs all over it when he dug through the white blanket to find his phone.

the time read “5:32 pm.” the top notification was a text from yoongi.

“i’m so, so sorry baby. i’m home now. where are you? please come home!”

jimin just about threw his phone. seokjin and namjoon rushed in the living room and calmed him down before he did such drastic things.

“im not even gonna fucking respond. let him wait for me. im gonna shove into the apartment and give yoongi hell!”

in jimin’s fury he dropped honorifics, but who gives a shit? he was an angry jimin, which doesn’t show up often, but when it does, there’s no mercy.

“now, now. let’s remember yoongi loves you very much. just try deep breathes!” seokjin offered. he knew it wasn’t working when jimin jumped off the couch and grabbed his coat and bag.

“i’m going to run there so i’ll at least be less harsh on him. it’ll burn some energy off. i might fucking run in front of a bus, to be honest.” he huffed as he tied his shoes back on.

“we know you don’t mean that!” namjoon spoke truth.

jimin sighed. “you’re right, thank you both for your hospitality. you two are living your best lives, what the fuck. i couldn’t even get a text back from my boyfriend on valentine’s day! i’m so jealous!”

with that note jimin gently closed the door then ran down the apartment steps at full speed instead of taking the elevator. he slipped his headphones in his ears and turned his running playlist on. when he stepped outside he noticed it was raining, but he didn’t give a fuck. he also didn’t give a fuck about the way his drawstring bag was thumping against his ass with every step, either. he was pissed.

when he ran into his apartment lobby, he shut off his music. he ungraciously tumbled into the elevator to catch his breath. he leaned on the mirror and saw that yoongi texted him a few more times. water dripped from his hair.

“babe, i’m really sorry. please come home.

baby? i’m worried. where are you?”

jimin scoffed. the messages were sent 3 minutes apart from each other. no fucking patience, jimin muttered.

jimin was right outside the door and was relieved when he jiggled the handle and it was unlocked.

he stormed in and threw his bag on the ground. nothing too valuable was in there, jimin thought.

“honey, i’m home!” jimin yelled mockingly. “you have explaining to do!” he kicked his shoes off and slammed the door with all he had.

“baby!” jimin heard. where was he? “i’m in the living room, jiminie.”

yoongi didn’t sound particularly upset like jimin thought he would. he walked through the dark blue hallway on the left to see yoongi in the living room on the couch with his hands folded.

before jimin’s top blew off, he noticed how.. how clean the room was. in fact, the mud room wasn’t even muddy. and jimin knew the apartment didn’t look like that when he left.

he did a brief scan of the whole room to see everything in place and dusted. yoongi was sat staring at jimin patiently.

jimin opened his mouth to release a slew of curses which yoongi just took. jimin didn’t give him a moment’s breath to defend himself just yet.

“...and maybe it’s because i’m too needy, or the fact that you already know that i’m needy and still ignored me. like, what the fuck? did you just come home and hire somebody to clean the whole apartment to make me feel better? because admittedly yes i do feel the slightest bit better, but that’s not enough! you’re going to need science to back you up on this, because i do not want to let this go!” jimin finished with a heavy breath. he crossed his arms over his chest and waited for yoongi to sputter out excuses and apologies.

what yoongi did instead surprised jimin.

yoongi stood up and walked away. jimin was in shock as he watched yoongi’s shadow move across the walls. jimin just kept standing there.

moments later, yoongi’s feet padded over towards jimin, the grey carpet engulfing his feet with every step. he had a white bathroom towel in his hands. he walked around the glass coffee table which reflected the dim lamp lights.

“do you know much i love you?” yoongi started out simply. he rubbed jimin’s hair with the towel, which jimin just let happen. he imagined he would slap yoongi’s hand away, but he didn’t.

jimin rolled his eyes and leaned on one side sassily. “you’re gonna use the ‘i love you,’ card? nope. nada. not today, sweetie.”

yoongi blinked as if he didn’t hear what jimin said. he gently uncrossed jimin’s arms and traced the stripes on his sweater with a light finger. yoongi padded the towel across jimin’s clothes.

“jiminie, my first love was the piano. the piano is a lifeless object, though. sure, emotions are felt when the keys are touched, but it’s not the same feeling as when someone loves you back. i don’t know any pianos that have fallen in love with me, but i certainly know a beautiful man who has.” yoongi topped it off with a kiss to jimin’s palm.

jimin was slightly flustered, but the anger didn’t completely ebb away.

“i’m not saying this to make anything up. i’m saying this because i planned a wonderful night for us. a night where we didn’t have to go in public. a night where we have the opportunity to love each other with everything we have.”

jimin nodded slowly, processing. “plan? so you did have a plan this year? and you never told me?” he clarified.

yoongi latched his hand around jimin’s. “yes, baby. i’m so sorry i caused all this stress, i meant the best. i truly did. i just needed you out of the house for the day. follow me,” he said quickly. he dropped the towel on the ground when jimin looked dry enough.

yoongi’s slow voice soothed jimin enough to have his anger burned down a thousand degrees. he followed yoongi almost reluctantly, though.

they walked into their white kitchen, which was spotless except for the red rose petals scattered on the floor.

“hyung, i.. so did you clean? all day? without me asking you to?” jimin asked timidly. he was catching on quickly and was beginning to feel horrible.

“mhm, but that’s alright. i did this for you. but let’s eat, yeah?” yoongi walked them to the dining room which was separated by an arch. the velvet walls made the rose petals blend well.

jimin noticed the roses led a path. the red roses worked towards both their chairs. but, pink roses picked up towards the opposite sides of their chairs which led to the hallway. jimin was thoroughly shocked. it’s not that his boyfriend never does sweet stuff, it’s just that there’s never any time. he’s usually at the studio, whether it be recording or sampling audio files.

jimin’s favorite dish was on the table. the only light in the room was the dim chandelier. the tablecloth was red with gold outlines, making him feel like a prince.

yoongi pulled out jimin’s chair. “why don’t you sit down, babe? we can talk this out more.”

twenty minutes later jimin laughed in embarrassment at himself. he found out yoongi had taken jimin’s key and locked the door so he wouldn’t be home. yoongi cleaned all day.

he also told namjoon to watch over jimin. apparently namjoon still owed yoongi from the time he exposed his love to jimin.

he did all that so him and jimin could have one night without interruptions. he took off work and got hell for it from his boss all for jimin.

once they both finished their meals, jimin piped up.

“yoongi, where do the pink roses lead to?” he wondered.

yoongi smiled to himself and scratched the back of his neck.

“that’s the best part, baby.” he stood up and took yoongi’s hand, escorting him through “the path of roses.”

as they walked through the hall, jimin noticed yoongi was wearing a bright pink sweater. to match the roses, jimin giggled to himself.

they were at the front of the bathroom door. jimin gasped when he saw what was taped to the door.

a home made card, with the words,

“Fuck Valentine’s Day, I love you everyday” written on it with red and pink colored pencils.

“hyung!” jimin whispered. “you made this for me, too?”

yoongi nodded and smiled widely. “wait, don’t read what’s inside yet.” he opened the bathroom door and jimin nearly cried.

it was the most cliché love scene but he didn’t care. the pink roses swirled on the floor and around their pearl white tub. the bathroom itself smelled heavily of roses and jimin thought he would faint. the bath water was a tinted pink, which glowed courtesy of the fairy lights yoongi strung around the bathroom.

jimin didn’t know where yoongi found the time to do all of this, but he was so flattered. he’d never felt this loved in his entire life.

he turned around and kissed yoongi in the doorway. their kiss was innocent and tender. jimin stuffed his angry feelings into his back pocket. he twirled his forefinger into yoongi’s black hair. yoongi’s hands gripped around his hips.

yoongi then took jimin’s striped shirt off and grazed his hands over jimin’s chest like it was the first time. he touched jimin’s pale skin as if it were china set in a family’s living room. he touched jimin like he wasn’t allowed to and it was his little secret. although, in reality, it was no secret that yoongi was utterly, madly in love with jimin. jimin saw it in his eyes. jimin felt it in his heart and it made his brain hurt sometimes.

soon enough, they successfully undressed the other. they took their time because they had it. they took their time because they missed each other’s skin being in the same room.

besides, how could jimin ever stay mad at yoongi? he would be wasting precious loving minutes.

yoongi playfully splashed water at jimin when they settled in the tub. jimin shrieked and lightly splashed him back. rose petals stuck to his skin like glue and he felt pretty.

their laughter died down and soon the only sounds in the room was the swirling of the bath water around their skin. faint, but there. jimin laid on yoongi’s chest and ruffled yoongi’s hair from behind.

“hey, you’re getting my hair wet!” yoongi muttered. his tone said one thing but his smile said another.

“we’re in water. of course your hair’s gonna get wet,” jimin jostled back.

yoongi laughed softly as the water dripped down from his head to his throat. his laugh echoed through jimin and he never felt so peaceful.

“want me to wash you, baby?” yoongi asked shyly. he has done it before, plenty of times. he just didn’t want to startle the intimacy with too much motion.

jimin hummed and nodded. “yes, please.”

yoongi reached over to the body wash. he didn’t want to have to wash jimin’s hair and make a big wet mess. he wanted something special and to touch jimin’s body.

he rubbed the strawberry soap between his fingers and grazed jimin’s chest from behind. he played with his nipples and smoothed over every muscle. jimin sighed in content and knew he could never ask for more.

yoongi rubbed slightly between jimin’s legs which made him jump. he put a calming hand on yoongi’s and moved it towards his lower thighs. yoongi made a noise of approval and just rubbed jimin’s thighs instead.

“i have to get your back, baby. turn around for me,” yoongi whispered slowly. jimin would always lose his mind with yoongi’s deep voice.

he turned around and the water made a sharp slush sound. he straddled yoongi and laid his head on his collarbone. he held onto yoongi’s shoulders with all the trust he had in him.

yoongi massaged his back with the soap, knowing jimin practiced that morning. little gasps escaped jimin’s lips when yoongi rubbed at a knot for a particular amount of time.

“you’re all clean, my little prince,” yoongi declared while touching his forehead with jimin’s. jimin decided to clean yoongi as well, with as much love as yoongi had for him.

soon enough, the bath water was cold and jimin knew he was about to pass out from exhaustion.

yoongi picked jimin up out of the tub and grabbed a pink towel that matched his hair. he dried a half asleep jimin off until it was okay to walk on the floor without dripping.

yoongi tied a red towel around his waist and drained the tub. jimin watched with heavy eyes.

yoongi escorted jimin to their room and found jimin’s favorite onesie for him to wear. it was a yellow duck onesie that made jimin feel like a kid again.

he left their towels on the off-white carpet in their room. they contrasted from the white theme. jimin was already in bed by the time yoongi put his grey sweatpants on.

yoongi climbed into bed with jimin. he draped the covers over him and made sure to tuck him in from the behind. jimin was blissful and knew yoongi loved him as much as he did.

“baby, did you forget about the card?” yoongi asked.

jimin’s eyes widened. “yes, oh my god. i’m sorry! is it still in the bathroom?” he felt bad.

yoongi laughed. “it’s okay, jiminie. i have it right here,” he grabbed the card from the nightstand.

he opened the card and cupped his hand in jimin’s hair. “let me read it for you, baby. valentine’s day makes couples love each other a little more than they usually do. they make couples do nice things for each other, right?”

jimin nodded as best he could pressed against yoongi’s body.

yoongi paused before speaking again. “but that’s something i wanna do for you everyday. you’re always my valentine, baby.”

jimin flushed red like the roses that were still on the kitchen floor.

yoongi put the card back on the nightstand and turned off the lamplight. jimin gripped his body tighter.

yoongi whispered, “goodnight, baby.” as he let jimin wrap around him like a string.

just as jimin was about to blissfully fall asleep, he heard yoongi’s chest rumble?”

“hmm?” he mumbled sleepily.

“i love you more than the stars can imagine. and there’s a lot of fucking stars out there, jiminie. i studied astronomy,” yoongi huffed.

jimin seemed to wake up fast and laughed heartily. oh, yes, he remembered yoongi’s astronomy phase.

“i love you, too. more than all the grains of sand in the world. and there’s a lot of those, too,” jimin retorted with little bite.

“oh yeah? more than all the protons, then.” yoongi laughed.

“more than the electrons. they’re infinitely smaller than protons i think, so ha! i win, babe,” jimin spoke with a bounce.

“alright, prince. you win. let’s sleep now, okay?” yoongi suggested. jimin knee yoongi would be too tired to do a fact check on atoms.

jimin agreed and relaxed his whole body against yoongi. he truly did love him more than anything in the universe.

and yoongi felt the same way. more than words can explain. a love that lasted longer than one special day a year. a love that will last years beyond their lives. a love that will have them cross paths again in a different life. on the same day, february 14th.
