The Stage

Summary:

A poem about longing for a place on the stage.

Notes:

I wrote this one day after I walked by the auditorium at school.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

A pang in my chest

A longing look

A bittersweet smile

A soft sigh

The stage

A quiet voice

A secret wish

All alone

Imagining an audience

The stage

Hopeful dreams

Locked away

Too much self-doubt

Not enough faith

The stage

Dim lighting

Empty seats

Heavy curtains

Carpeted aisles

The stage

Rich brown wood

Splintered at the edge

Worn with time

Yet sturdy as ever

The stage

Where I want to sing

Where I want to act

What I want the most

What I’ll never have

The stage

My secret wish

My biggest dream

My greatest hope

My favorite place

The stage
