Work Text:
The first time he proposed, Goto didn’t take him seriously.
Masayoshi understands—it wasn’t very romantic, in hindsight Masayoshi’s not sure even he’d have accepted a proposal like that.
(Goto once suggested that the problem went beyond a lack of romance, but Masayoshi’s not convinced that facing down your final enemy is actually the “absoluteworst time” to propose—plenty of heroes have successfully confessed in battle, after all.)
At any rate, Masayoshi would agree that Goto deserves much better than a spur-of-the-moment proposal. So the second time, he dresses up, takes Goto out on a very pleasant evening stroll through all of their favorite places, and when they return to Masayoshi’s apartment for dinner he pops the question.
“L-Like hell!” Goto jerks back away from the coffee table, “Why would you even want to?”
“I love you!” Masayoshi declares, “And I’m serious so, uh,” but Masayoshi isn’t sure how to finish, so the statement hangs awkwardly in the air between them.
“I have a girlfriend,” Goto’s voice is quiet, and his tone suggests that this is a test, of sorts.
“She—“ there are so many things Masayoshi could say, and he knows all of them should absolutely not be said. So he stares down at his coffee table for the moment it takes him to swallow down all of his initial thoughts before responding.
“That’s fine, isn’t it?” he murmurs, “I still don’t know much about love, but does it have to be limited to just two people?” The Flamenco girls seemed to be happy together, and whether Goto thought his girlfriend were still alive or not, Masayoshi would never ask him to forget completely, so surely Masayoshi could handle it if Goto always reserved a bit of his love for someone else?
Unless—Maybe Goto doesn’t love him, or doesn’t love him in the ‘get married’ way. The thought, the possibility of it, knocks the wind out of him, and not for the first time Masayoshi regrets learning about love.
Goto heaves a loud sigh, settling back against the sofa behind them. “I would have to ask her,” Goto says, a wry smile tugging at his mouth, “If she would mind me having a husband on the side.”
Masayoshi’s heart soars. “Please ask her!” He begs, and turns to watch with bated breath as Goto pulls his cell phone out of his pocket.
“Hey, don’t stare so hard!” Goto commands, the tips of his ears going a bit pink as he scoots away from Masayoshi, in order to type out his message more privately.
Squirming with anticipation, Masayoshi fiddles with his shirt sleeves until Goto’s phone is pushed down the table toward him. Frantic, Masayoshi’s hand fumble with the phone until he’s got the display screen maybe a hand’s width from his eyes.

Hmm, I guess I can share. Hazama-kun, please make Go-chin happy! ^_^
Masayoshi can all but taste his heart, it’s climbed so high up his throat. Unable to speak he looks up from the phone to Goto, his stare hopeful.
“So, you—“ Masayoshi’s croaks, struggling to form words around his heartbeat, “We—is that a yes?”
Goto frowns for only a moment, before it melts into a smile that sends a soothing warmth down Masayoshi’s spine.
“We should go on a few more dates first,” Goto replies, “And then, afterwards, I think I’ll say yes.”
