Work Text:

The smell of books filled Hajime's nose when he opened the door to the clubroom. Violet eyes carefully examined the space.

Empty. Though Hajime had expected as much, the fact still took him by surprise. As much as he enjoyed spending time in the quietness of solitude, he had come to look forward to the chattering of his juniors.

Nevertheless, he decided to lay down on the sofa and enjoy the warmth of the sunlight filtering in through the window.

It's quiet. He closed his eyes. Quiet and peaceful.

He must have dozed off, because the next thing he knew, he was waking up to the sound of the door sliding open and light footsteps entering the room.

"Oh? What's this?"

Hajime relaxed at the sound of the voice. He kept his eyes closed, feigning sleep.

"The Black King is napping, I see." The sofa creaked as someone sat down on the armrest. "Good work today, Ou-sama."

Hajime cracked open an eye. "All I've done is attend class, you know."

Shun chuckled. "So you were awake after all."

"Somewhat." Hajime sat up with a grunt and stretched his arms over his head. "Where's everyone else?"

"Attending to other duties. But you can spy some children at play if you look outside."

"I'll take your word for it." Hajime swung his legs off the sofa and slid over to make room for Shun. "Shouldn't you be meeting with Kurotsuki-san?"

"Something urgent happened last minute, so he rescheduled." Shun slid into the spot beside Hajime. "Which means I get to spend a little more time with you today!" he chimed happily as he leaned against Hajime's side.

Of course. Hajime sighed, but he allowed Shun to hug his arm. "So long as you aren't skipping out on your duties, I suppose it's fine…"

"You know I would never pass up a chance to capture your attention, Hajime."

"That's not what I meant." Hajime paused. "And that's not your duty either, Mr. Club Vice President." He gently flicked Shun's forehead.

"Yes, yes, Mr. President," Shun chuckled softly.

They stayed in position for a moment, Shun clinging to Hajime's arm, Hajime leaning back against the sofa, enjoying the tranquil sunlight flooding the room with light.

"It's a bit stuffy in here, isn't it?" Shun suddenly remarked.

"A bit," Hajime agreed.

"I thought so. I'll go open the window."

Shun released Hajime's arm and stood. Hajime shifted slightly on the sofa, somewhat missing the feeling of the white-haired teen pressed up against his side. Violet eyes watched as Shun slipped through the curtain and opened the window, allowing a gust of warm spring air to spill into the room.

"The trees are blooming again." Shun rested his hands on the window sill and gazed out over the schoolyard. His hair fluttered gently like a feather in the breeze. "How wonderful."

"Well, it's about that time of year," Hajime said. "Good riddance."

"Glad that winter is over?" Shun asked.

"Hm. Somewhat."

"Hajime really is like a cat, isn't he?" Shun chuckled softly. "Can't stand the heat or cold…"

"Shun."

"Oh, don't worry Hajime." Shun turned around to give the younger teen a knowing smile. "I'm only teasing."

"Of course." Hajime lifted his hand to cover his mouth as he yawned. "You should tie back the curtain."

"Should I?" Shun examined the curtain. "I think it looks nice like this."

Suddenly, a gust of wind caused the curtain to billow upward and snag the ends of Shun's hair. He chuckled as a second strong breeze sent the sheer white curtain over his head.

"Someone seems to agree with me." His pale fingers reached up to curl in the mesh of the curtain. "Or perhaps it's become my fan..?"

Hajime examined the teen from head to toe. With the curtain draped over his head and his white shirt and cardigan, Shun looked like a mysterious demon lord about to cast a spell, or a royal prince overlooking his kingdom.

Or a beautiful bride on her wedding day, Hajime thought.

"Hajime?"

Hajime blinked. Shun was gazing curiously at him. The curtain fluttered with every small move he made, dipping down to frame his bright green eyes. Without thinking, Hajime pushed himself off the sofa and stepped forward so he was in front of Shun. He was suddenly struck by how well Shun's height matched his. With most of the junior club members, Hajime had to bend his neck slightly downwards to meet their eyes. With Kai and Haru, he had to shift his gaze upward. But with Shun, he could look straight ahead and they would be eye to eye. Neither taller or shorter, nor above or below one another. Rather, they were equal.

Wordlessly, Hajime reached up and brushed his fingers against the sheer fabric of the curtain. Shun stood perfectly still, eyes never once daring to tear away from the gaze they shared. Gradually, Hajime's fingers trailed down Shun's face.

"Shun." His hand paused on Shun's cheek, a silent ask for approval.

"Hajime." Shun eyes glimmered, a quiet reply of consent.

Another gentle breeze drifted through the window as Hajime leaned in. Shun's eyes fluttered shut in an instant. The curtain wavered in the wind, rippling with warmth and happiness. When the draft finally faded away, Hajime pulled back, hand still cupping Shun's cheek.

"This must be the best day on earth," Shun sighed.

"How so?" Hajime asked.

Shun opened his eyes. "Because the first thing I see after my first kiss is Hajime."

"Oh?" Hajime brushed his thumb across Shun's cheek. "And how does that feel?"

"Wonderful, of course," Shun laughed.

Hajime smiled softly. "How would you feel if I asked you for a second?"

"Oh?" Shun raised an eyebrow. "You're not afraid of the children walking in on us?"

Hajime snorted. "Shouldn't that be the least of your worries?"

"I suppose," Shun laughed as Hajime leaned in once again.

The curtains swelled in the warm breeze around them, signalling the oncoming of spring—a new beginning, one filled with the bright promise of happiness and prosperity.

And in that moment, that was all they truly needed.

Notes:

Shout out to my friend who thought when I talked to her about making a curtain look like a veil that Shun was just going to parade around wearing a curtain. (Love you darling~ Lol)
