Chapter Text
Jimin wouldn't consider himself good with breakups.
Or exes.
Or jealousy.
Or just about anything having to do with his ex-girlfriend.
There's a reason Namjoon always teased him for being a 'hopeless romantic'. Jimin refused to take the title when his friends assigned it to him, but he would never admit that it suited him quite well.
Many would call him ignorant, but he believed in true love, soulmates, destiny. When he found someone, he was convinced that person was the one and only. It had to be so, didn't it? How could his heart cling to someone so ruthlessly, never wanting to let go, if there wasn't a supernatural force playing behind the scenes?
Jin said it was his lack of experience, Jungkook said it was his neediness showing.
Jimin's mind didn't change.
They all told him she was trouble. She was a dancer with a history of bad relationships, but Jimin was convinced he had to...no, he was born to break that cycle. To make her love in a way she was never capable of before.
He bought her flowers every time he visited her apartment, he spent the last of his paycheque on the most expensive of dates and gifts, he held her hand when it was vacant, he fought back against his friends when they told him to end it before things got worse.
As her interest in him faded, so did he. He stopped going to his college classes, and stayed holed up in his room, waiting for her to respond to his texts, to call him, or at the very least acknowledge him.
Namjoon constantly set up plans for the group, such as movies, or dinner dates, hoping Jimin wouldn't be able to refuse time with his friends.
Jin worried about his health, bringing in some of his favourite foods, noodles, and sweets, just to make sure he ate.
Hoseok would come in with his wide smile, jumping on the bed playfully, likely trying to cheer the poor man up; often Jimin played along with the wild redhead, but not then.
Taehyung, his old friend, tried to get him to open up, reassuring him that he was open to vent and cry; he was desperate to help, yet Jimin kept his mouth shut.
Jungkook, the rascal he was, tried to get him active and dancing, blasting all kinds of tunes throughout the room. Jimin only watched.
And Yoongi...he didn't see Yoongi.
Actually, he might have been mad at him. If any of his friends warned him about her the most, it was Yoongi.
Jimin used to be so enraged by his warnings, he would shout at him to shut up and mind his own business; and yet here Jimin was, heartbroken and lost, all cause of her, just like Yoongi told him.
After a month, she finally contacted him.
Miran: [2:32pm] I think it's about time we broke it off.
Jimin didn't text back, the second he read the text, he was on the nearest bus, rushing to her apartment. It was too soon, far too soon, he had so much more to give, so much more time to love.
He doesn't know why he was surprised to find her making out with some tall stud near the doorway. Jimin stares at them as if he's invisible, as if time has stopped, until the couple has no choice but to notice him.
"Jimin!" Miran broke away from the man in a haste, lips swollen and red marks on her neck. "Wh-What are you doing here!?"
He tries to find words, any words really, only to realize there's no chance to recover from the humiliating situation. With his mouth left open in astonishment, he turns around in a movement that feels like it takes ages, tears brewing in the corner of his eyes. He leaves at a rushed pace that transitions to a full run out of the building, ignoring the elevator and nearly tripping down the stairwell as he sobs into his sleeve.
The next few months were...really bad.
...Really, really bad...
...
...
But that's beside the point.
The point is he is over her. She's long gone! No skin off his back, you know?
And listen, when he saw her walking into the restaurant he worked at with the same man a couple months later, it wasn't like he wasn't over her or anything.
He just...wanted to assert dominance.
And besides, she came up to him and she knew he worked there, she was just asking for it at that point, who would he be not to give it?
"I just wanted to apologize." Is the first words that come out of her mouth, hugging her new lover's side. "I know what we had was special...to you, but I've found a way to move on."
Jimin pulls the forced smile easily. "I'm glad to hear that, Miran. You see, I've moved on as well."
"Oh, really?" Her eyes glance at the man at her side, a snarkiness in her voice. "You've...found someone else?"
Okay...he panicked.
"Yes!" His voice is a little too loud. "A beautiful woman, delicate, confident. She's perfect, really. It's a nice change of pace, very fresh. I guess I was just with the wrong type of women."
He wishes for nothing more than her expression to spike up in horror or shame at his not so subtle insult. He doesn't get that. Instead, she gives him a disbelieving grin.
"Wow, Jimin. That's so interesting."
"I know, I could talk about her for ages."
She's quick to dismiss him, the cocky smirk still stuck to her face. "Well, I'll see you later then. I wish you luck with...your relationship."
Looking back on it, it might not have been that bad. There was truly no way she could properly confirm whether or not this "perfect" girlfriend existed. Even if she couldn't believe it, that tiny fraction of her brain that would consider it was doomed to haunt her. He'd seen it before, with her other exes. So many nights he spent talking with her, trying to reassure her, only to be ignored.
Although, he should have realized sooner that that tiny part of her brain, plagued with paranoia and envy, would search for answers, no matter what it took.
Miran: [3:31pm] I think we should try being friends again.
Miran has never been friends with an ex.
To be safe, Jimin waits a couple minutes before answering.
Jimin: [3:50pm] Really...?
Miran doubles his time.
Miran: [4:33pm] Really!! You were always a good person, it'd be a shame to have someone like you out of my life completely.
...
So much for moving on. He makes his response as detached and uninterested as humanly possible.
Jimin: [4:35pm] Sure.
Miran: [5:01pm] Good!
Miran: [5:03pm] I think we should start off with a double date, since I keep hearing so much about that girlfriend of yours. I wanna get to know her, you can get to know Shinwa in the meantime too! I was thinking of going to that sushi restuarant, you know it, you've been there with me. It'll be fun.
He should have known.
He can't help but pull an eye roll at himself, he fell perfectly into the trap she laid for him. He groans, slapping his forehead at his complete and utter stupidity.
Miran isn't the person to take no for an answer. Refusing would be admitting his defeat, they both know it.
But it isn't gonna stop him.
This isn't the first time Jimin has played the game of jealousy with her, and it certainly isn't going to be the last, even if that meant he'd be on the different side of things.
Jimin: [5:10pm] Sure! lets do it.
Miran: [5:11pm] See you soon!
The only issue is getting a girl that will go along with it, preferably a pretty one that's just his type.
Can't be that hard, can it?
...
...
...
...
...
His phone buzzes minutes later, and it feels like fate.
Yoongi: [5:14pm] Yo.
