Work Text:
jungkook was being distant for a while now, anyone could’ve told you that. whenever taehyung tried to cuddle or hold his hand, he’d make an excuse that he needed to use the bathroom or shove his hands in his pockets.
he came back to the apartment late and always went straight to bed, saying he ate at practice or picked up something on the way home.
taehyung then usually sat at the table with a frown on his face, picking at the food on his plate that took him all day to make, only because it was jungkooks favorite.
whenever he told him he loves him, the younger would just nod or act as if he hadn’t heard the the words that taehyung had used only for him.
he’d act as if he hadn’t heard taehyung ask what was wrong, if something happened that he didn’t tell him, only answering to simple questions. like, how was your day? anything that would infer that he had to give a full on sentence, he’d basically ignore it.
when taehyung went to namjoon about his dilemma with the maknae, he was told to just give him time and that he’ll soon come around, that he’s been overworking himself in the studio and needs rest.
taehyung believed him, but it’s been a month, shouldn’t he have come around by now?
taehyung decided to go out for a while since jungkook was still at practice. he always went to the park, it was like his safe haven. he’d sit at the bench and somehow feel safe from the world and it’s harm, whether he was writing or fondly watching the younger children play with each other.
taehyung always thought about adopting kids with jungkook one day, he wasn’t so sure anymore.
he missed the soft kisses he would give him, how they were so simple yet so passionate and mesmerizing. he missed laying with jungkook, they’re legs tangled while taehyung ran his hand through the youngers dark curls. he missed jungkook calling him his honey boy.
they were lying together one day, jungkook admiring his lovers face, complimenting his honey skin complexion, saying he was the most beautiful and pleasing person he’s ever come across. thus the nickname honey boy came inX and taehyung feel in love with it.
dismissing the frown on his face he looked down at his notebook, one that jimin had just recently got him. a simple hardcover book, with pages upon pages of poetry.
having started writing when jungkook became more and more distant, taehyung found that is was easier to write out his feelings in a simple yet meaningful way.
everyday their would be a new poem written into the journal, sometimes when he’s feeling a little more sad than usual there would be two. most were about feeling sad while others were about feeling a small amount of happiness. taehyung used to feel on top of the world when he was with jungkook, now he feels as if he’s just the small rock you would kick as you were walking on the sidewalk.
seeing it was dark, he walked home, slowly, not really wanting to be there. he unlocked the door, meaning jungkook still wasn’t home. he was usually home by now? it’s already 7:34.
taehyung changed into his pajamas and made himself some supper, sitting on the couch, legs crossed. he began to wonder, what had he done so wrong? has he become boring? not giving his lover enough attention? not that he would except it anyway, taehyung emitted a dry laugh.
maybe he could change himself into someone jungkook would love more. because obviously taehyung right now just wasn’t enough anymore.
he set his plate in the sink and made his way back to the couch, staring at the wall ahead, feeling more empty and confused than ever.
hearing the door open, his eyes slowly moved towards the sound. he watched as jungkook walked in, shutting the door softly and walking in front of taehyung. he crouched down in front of taehyung, meeting the older boys sad eyes.
“i’m sorry,” jungkook said softly as he held taehyungs soft hands.
taehyung felt the need to pull away, but stayed in place, maybe jungkook will tell him what’s wrong so taehyung can fix it.
“i love you,” taehyung muttered, exerting his stare down to his hands.
jungkook placed his thumb and forefinger under taehyungs chin, softly bringing his eyes back to meet his own. he leaned in for a kiss, taehyungs heart stopping, but then slowly closing his eyes. taehyung opened them back up in confusion.
for jungkooks lips never met taehyungs.
“oh, if only there was someone who loved you back.”
jungkook then stood up and walked out the door, not once looking back.
for he had fallen out of love with his honey boy.
