Summary
Oily shadows dance across the silken image of a heron among the reeds as the lamplight flickers. A whisper of silk is caught in the passing of a man who moves soundlessly across the tatami smelling of sweat, the iron tang of blood, and the sweet earthiness of incense. He perceives the lilting sigh of a woman as she strokes her long, silken hair over her shoulder, and whose dark and beautiful eyes rise to meet her lover as his master kneels to press a kiss upon her exposed nape. Even here, the air is heavy with the scent of the sea, wood-smoke, and the weight of a new dawn, as is the ever familiar sensation of his master's hand resting upon his hilt.
These are the memories of Mutsunokami Yoshiyuki, the sword of Tosa and blade of Sakamoto Ryouma.
