I'm Smitten, Kitten

Summary:

“Honestly, maybe Yoongi should adopt him. Yoongi could use someone to take care of, then maybe he might learn to take care of himself.” Yoongi knew Jin was joking, but maybe he was right. Maybe he could go look at hybrids, see if there was one he liked, even if it didn’t end up being Jimin. Yoongi decided to keep this to himself for now, no need to get Tae’s hopes up when he wasn’t even sure himself.

Min Yoongi wasn't sure if he wanted a hybrid, but he figured why not test the waters to find out.

Chapter 1: A Thought that has Potential

Chapter Text

It’s official: Park Jimin was tired of being poked and prodded all day every day. He was tired of his tail being pulled, he was tired of his ears being tugged. He was tired of being called a ‘pretty kitty” while greasy hands touched him as they pleased. The Birman hybrid, despite loving people and getting pets, was tired of the people who came in and spent all their time with him, only to end up choosing another hybrid. Jimin didn’t mind that the others got adopted, he really didn’t. In fact, he was happy that they had a chance at a happy life outside of the adoption center. But he wanted that chance too. It really was no fair.

The adoption center’s workers were all sweet and knew how to handle the hybrids with care and respect, which was better than he heard about some other shelters. There was a section in the center that housed only transferred hybrids who had been abused by past caregivers, his friend Taehyung had been transferred to the shelter a little over a year ago. The Toyger hybrid had been vibrant even after being transferred, despite Jimin overhearing that he had it the worst out of all the hybrids. When Jimin asked, Tae smiled his boxy smile and said that not everything can turn out that bad. Jimin figured he was right and was happy his friend had the opportunity for better care. After a brief readjusting period, Tae’s file was placed with the other for-sale hybrids’ and within a month, he was adopted.

Kookie seemed to be good owner and would bring him back once every week or so to see Jimin, sometimes even taking the Birman out to lunch with them. In the time Tae visited, Jimin spent more time catching up with his friend than getting to know his owner. The only things he knows is from what Tae told him: Kookie was a lawyer for some hug entertainment company, he was an excellent cuddler despite the amount of muscles he has, and adored Tae (Jimin knew this from experience.) Jimin believed Tae when he said Kookie was rich, if the Gucci Tae wears every time he visits, and the gold collar encrusted with diamonds said anything.

Still, as happy as he was for his friend, Jimin was a little jealous as well. He wants someone to love him and cherish him and cuddle him. He doesn’t need Gucci or a million-dollar collar, he just needs someone who needs and wants him just as much. And to be honest, the constant petting and ‘good boy’s all day is getting real old. Old enough that today, Jimin decided not to go out to the greeting room.

Staying in the hybrid common room, Jimin sat in a patch of warmth where the sun shone through the window. He set his book next to him and leant back, letting the sun warm his face for a moment. Maybe, he thought, today might be a good day for a nap.

Min Yoongi looked up from the screen where he was currently working on a new song and leveled his gaze at who some would call his best friend, a tall man named Kim Namjoon. Behind him stood his hybrid, a Bichon Frise named Jin who was surprisingly tall considering his breed. Jin looked entirely unimpressed as he walked in the studio.

“You need to eat. You need to sleep. You need to not be here for any longer.” The hybrid sounded vaguely put out, but his eyes betrayed the fondness he felt for the producer. Yoongi opened his mouth to respond, but before he could Jin raised his hand and he tilted his head, “I know you have work to do. Namjoon has work to do too, but he still makes time for sleep and to eat three meals a day. And I know that’s partially to do with me, so I’m helping you out by inviting you to lunch with us. Jungkook and Tae will be there too.”

“I politely decline your invitation, Jin. But thank you.” Yoongi smiled and turned his chair back around, reaching to fix his headphones so he could focus on the song. Before he could, however, a hand hit the back of his chair and pushed the chair back around.

“Min Yoongi, you WILL come with us to lunch. I don’t care if I need to drag you there myself. Save your stuff and let’s go.” Jin kept a sweet smile on his face, but his eyes dared the raven-haired male to defy him. Yoongi sighed and glanced at Namjoon, but he just looked amused.

“Fine. Will you let my chair go so I can save my progress?” Yoongi knew he needed to take a break. The song was starting to sound beyond irritating and he hadn’t eaten since yesterday at breakfast. And it was already after 12. Besides, he enjoyed spending time with his friends even when they spent most of the time doing what they could to annoy him. After turning off his monitor, he turned to the two and raised an eyebrow. With a satisfied nod, Jin turned around, grabbed Namjoon’s hand and led the way out of the building. Yoongi smiled fondly behind them, he was really happy that Joon had found Jin.

The man was the same as Yoongi in work ethic, but when he found himself not going home at night, it wasn’t because he lost track of time or felt like he absolutely needed to continue the track like it was for Yoongi. Instead he avoided going home because he didn’t want to be alone. He would spend time in the break room and try and make conversation with the people there until all he was hearing was how happy people were with their significant other.

Namjoon found Jin on accident, meeting his eyes through the window of his adoption center on his way home one morning after staying overnight to finish a track with Yoongi whose deadline was that day. The hybrid had smiled at him, tilting his head as his fluffy brown ears perked up, his eyes crinkling cutely. Namjoon smiled back and lifted his hand a little to wave. The hybrid had giggled, lifting his hand to cover his mouth. Joon was already enamored and pointed towards the front, tilting his head a little, he hoped the hybrid would understand his question. When he received a nod back, that was all it took before he went inside the building and adopted Jin.

Taehyung noticed them first when they reached the restaurant, the cat’s ears perking and loud purring starting up as he jumped on the balls of his feet. Upon seeing Tae’s boxy grin, Jungkook smiled fondly but turned to where his hybrid was looking. It was always nice seeing Tae so happy to see them. Kook had told them about the Toyger’s history, despite that, none of them had yet to see any indication of it. He was happy as a clam, eagerly hugging his friends and always seemingly ready to make a new friend.

“Okay, let’s eat. You can catch us up on all the things we’ve missed.” Yoongi directed this at Taehyung, knowing that he had lots to say since the last time they met up. Deciding to start as soon as they sat at the table, Taehyung spoke about all his adventures of the week. Catching a frog near the pond at the park Kookie had taken him to. Getting new film for his camera. Getting really good pictures. Getting to hang out with Hobi. Getting to see Jimin.

“And I just feel really bad for him, cos he’s been there three years, and no one has adopted him yet, but he’s super sweet and cuddly. I just want him to be happy, but you can tell he’s losing hope.” Tae said, mouth forming a pout and eyes turning downcast. “He’s my best friend and he deserves the best.”

“I know baby,” Jungkook soothed Tae, his hand rubbing the cat’s back. “I want him happy too.”

“Foods here, lets eat.”
