Summary
Hiccup planned to attend College, pass his subjects and move onto University, away from a disapproving father and the stress of what he calls his life. It’s going to be hard considering all his friends opted for different Colleges, but he’ll focus on school work and a part-time job, no biggie. Things begin to change though, when Hiccup bumps into Jack. Literally bumps into him in the hallway. That’s not how they become proper friends though, that is the second time they meet. They hit it off really well and they’re practically brothers by the end of first week. But Hiccup has to watch his feelings of friendship don’t evolve into more or he’ll lose one of those most precious to him. Things get complicated when his abusive ex-boyfriend turns up out of the blue, looking to rekindle the one-sided affair. If Hiccup doesn’t comply, then Dagur will destroy his life, or at least his friendship with Jack. To save Jack and himself from ridicule, Hiccup accepts. But Dagur’s an abusive shit that likes to lay his fists into Hiccup too many times and it doesn’t take Jack long to notice something is going on. And the best friend who he’s crushing on isn’t exactly good at lying to him….

The story is lighthearted and sweet, with some heavier topics hinted at, such as Dagur starting to abuse Hiccup again. Hiccup (who likes to hang out at a Viking themed restaurant) and Jack (who plays soccer) immediately fall for each other, but they haven't gotten together yet. Take note that while Toothless is Hiccup's emotional support service dog (a nice idea), it's inaccurate as Toothless is fed and pet by others while he's on the job in public, and he doesn't actually give Hiccup much emotional support.
