Chapter Text
Even if it doesn't seem like it, the world is always being observed. It's developments, failures and different life forms are all monitored by superior beings, Gods both heavenly and hellish. Although the hellish are usually referred to as Devils, who check from time to time to see how the humans have evolved. What intrigues them the most, is the fact that even after a tragedy, the humans still manage to pull through, whether it was due to a miracle, or their strong bonds.
But this time, the future holds something highly destructive, that the beings have found out from an ancient prophecy. On the next moon eclipse, a human child shall be born who will hold the potential to bring chaos to the world, after reaching 'adulthood' or enough maturity and independence, that will develop into hate and immense power. After a not so long wait, once the baby is born she is nicknamed 'Lorelei', a sweet name with a dark meaning. However, finding her proved difficult, as her power wouldn't manifest until her coming of age. Fortunately, one day a sudden power surge was detected and they pinpointed it to the girl. Finally, they knew where she was.

The Gods and Devils thought long and hard on who to send down. The usual process is for both to send their best angels and demons down to compete against who will solve the problem first. However, this time the whole world's lives are at stake and the child's final birthday happens to fall on an annual festival celebrated in both dimensions, where the existence of the superior God's and Devil's are celebrated. This means that most will be unwilling to fight for the safety of earth, as celebrating the festival is a part of many angels' and demons' way of life, culture, custom, like a widely accepted and highly worshipped version of Christmas, Hanukkah or Diwali, which if not celebrated, is seen as heresy.
Yet miraculously, 7 entities volunteered to save the earth, 2 of which were chosen as the most powerful and suitable for the mission and will be mightily congratulated if they return in success. Although both are very different, the beings ordered them to accept their differences for a short while, if it meant they could protect the fastly developing and intelligent lifeforms residing on the earth. And whilst it is a very heavyweight and immensely important mission that could hardly be considered suitable enough for two people, it is in the end, one human vs two otherworldly entities. In most cases, Heaven and Hell rarely work together but this time the circumstances can't be avoided.
The beings have decided on a plan, to either cleanse the child's soul or erase her completely, as bringing her back could create problems and killing her could leave behind traces of a malicious spirit. For this, they've sent down a soul-consuming demon, who's been around long enough to have consumed hundreds of souls in exchange for the dark power they use for beating evil spirits. The other being a freshly employed purifying angel, chosen by the Holy Staff, passed down from many generations of powerful Angels, whose job is to cleanse the soul, giving a second chance at life and salvation to its human host. Whichever side succeeds first will be congratulated by their respective being.
However, as important as the mission is, neither entity can entirely combine forces or get too close to the other as both simultaneously pose a threat to each other at the same time as they are the perfect match for the job. It is obviously clear that a Demon and an Angel are the strongest opposites to exist, and if either touch lips or say Holy vows to each other, the stronger entity shall overpower the other, transforming them. This makes the mission oppose the strong taboo of having either work with each other.
But the beings aren't keen on giving up so easily and believe the two entities are clever enough to stay far away yet close enough to cooperate during difficult times. As this is the first meeting between the two, it will also be a spark to the most significant event of the otherworldly dimensions in ancient history.
