Work Text:
Aizawa’s head was killing him.
He usually got migraines, his entire temples ached whenever he decided to open his eyes. But this was entirely different, his sinuses burned and his eyes watered. His entire throat was sore, it felt like something was clawing his throat raw.
Oh yes, Aizawa was most definitely sick.
And he completely, utterly, without a doubt and with no regret blamed his youngest.
Eri had gotten sick nearly a week ago with a terrible cold. She cried and whined, her temperatures shot from a normal 97 degrees to 100. Aizawa has taken her to and from the doctor, receiving antibiotics and other things. In the end, they simply had to wait out the sickness that was overtaking her.
Unfortunately for the rest of them in the household, that being his husband and two other children, it meant they were more susceptible to getting sick as well.
Hitoshi got sick next. He was closest with Eri, and she enjoyed his company immensely. Hitoshi’s sleep schedule was also so nonexistent that he got sicker faster than anyone else in the household. So, it was safe to say that when he got sick he got tremendously sick.
Shouto fell ill not even a day after Hitoshi did, and that was just for the simple fact that Shouto took the reign to take care of both Hitoshi and Eri claiming he “didn’t get sick,”
Oh, the lies.
Aizawa, well considering Aizawa was both their father and homeroom teacher, saw the two every day and night. So here he was now, unable to walk or talk because of how much pain he was in.
And yes, he still blamed Eri 100%.
Hizashi was the only one not sick and took time off from teaching so he could stay home and take care of Eri.
Aizawa got the two sick teenagers at school by default.
Stumbling into the rowdy classroom, his headache instantly increased tenfold by the sound of their shrill voices. Regardless, the class quieted down when Aizawa entered the room and scattered to their respective seats.
Aizawa took a while to greeting the class, he’d admit, he was too busy swaying in and out of consciousness. He could see Shouto’s glazed over eyes, his head resting against one of his palms as he tried desperately to at least look like he was paying attention. Hitoshi? Hitsohi wasn’t even pretending like he was paying attention. Instead he had his head buried in his arms as he was presumedly asleep on the desk.
“Good morning, class,” Aizawa grumbled, his throat burning.
“Mr. Aizawa! You sound terrible,” Ashido cried, her voice quaking his brain.
“Wonderful observation,” Aizawa deadpanned, before continuing, “I’m not feeling well. Today, you’ll be starting a project in pairs –”
The amount of hands flew up was expected.
“- Yes, you may pick your partners,”
The hands slowly inched downwards.
Aizawa heaved a sighed, “The assignment is to research a hero or sidekick who’s been involved in a scandal, explain the scandal, and then how the media responded. Discuss whether the media was correct in their response or not. Too harsh? Too easy? You tell me,” he explained slowly, “Remember, as a hero you’ll face a multitude of scandals and lies told by the media. It’s best you make sure now how to avoid those, and when to know you’re wrong,” Aizawa opened his desk drawer and dug out the oversized yellow sleeping bag he so desperately needed, “If you need anything, please hesitate to ask,”
He never fell asleep faster.
“Let’s do Endeavor,”
Shouto groaned at Hitoshi’s suggestion, his temples aching terribly and didn’t go away no matter how hard he massaged.
“Mr. Aizawa would never,”
“It’d be great,” Hitoshi grumbled out, his voice muffled due to his head still being buried within his arms. “We could talk about how shit of a father he is,”
“You sound terrible,”
“Really?” Hitoshi popped his head up, his eyes squinting at the bright light at shown through the windows. “I didn’t realize,”
“Let’s go,” Shouto stood up abruptly from his seat and yanked on Hitoshi’s sleeve to make him follow.
The class followed with interested eyes as the two of them trekked up to where Aizawa was napping in the corner. The eyes that followed them seemed concerned, and almost questioning about why they were going to ask a question now when Aizawa specifically implied for no one to ask him anything.
When Shouto and Hitoshi reached Aizawa, they crouched down to his height level.
Aizawa let out a pained cough, that caused Hitoshi and Shouto to cringe.
“I blame Eri,” Hitoshi mumbled.
“I blame you,” Shouto grumbled back.
“Of course, you do,”
Shouto gently shook Aizawa, “Mr. Aizawa,” he whispered.
“This better be good Todoroki,” the teacher grumbled, curling more in on himself.
“Can we go home?”
Aizawa stopped shuffling momentarily, processing the question far slower than he should’ve. “I’m teaching,”
“Actually –”
“You’ll want to stop right there, Shinsou,”
“Yes, sir,” Shinsou hummed.
“We can go home with Eri and Hizashi,” Shouto pressed, his voice slightly whiny, which was a surprise to him and Aizawa both, “Take a nap at home, let Midnight take over the class,”
It took a few more beats before Aizawa grumbled and pushed himself up from his sleeping bag. He pushed himself up from his sitting position to stand. Swaying slightly, he managed somehow to get himself to the podium to talk with the class.
“Midnight will be taking over the class. Please continue working on your project, or pester Midnight to do something else, I don’t care,” Aizawa nodded towards Hitoshi and Shouto to follow him and the three of them began going towards the door without any further explanation.
“You’re here early!”
Hizashi loud voice caused Shouto, Hitoshi and Aizawa to wince.
Hizashi held Eri in his arms, her head tucked underneath his chin as she seemed half asleep. Her hair was in a tidy bun that Aizawa assumed Hizashi did himself.
“I’m dying,” Hitoshi supplied, pushing past the other two and making a quick beeline straight for the couch. The teen quickly wrapped himself up with the blanket that was laid out over the couch. “I can’t breathe,”
“So dramatic,” Shouto sighed, taking a seat next to Hitoshi and – after a small tug of war with the blanket – managed to share the blanket between the two of them.
Aizawa watched with a disdainful look, before walking up and giving Hizashi and soft kiss on the cheek. Slipping Eri away from him and into his arms, Aizawa trudged towards the recliner to lay down.
Hizashi smiled at his small little sick family. Hitoshi was curled up against the edge of the couch, Shouto close attempting to take heat from the blanket Hitoshi was hogging. Eri rested peacefully on a now sleeping Aizawa’s chest, one of his hands wrapped around her to make sure she doesn’t fall if he shifts.
His sleepy, sick family.
Smiling, Hizashi turned around to start on lunch for the five of them.
