Chapter Text
‘’Can you pass me the jam dear?’’
Jungkook leaned over his open assortment of school notes and pushed the blackcurrant flavored jam to his mother who was sitting cross-legged on the steel high stools beside their kitchen island. The young boy made a disgusted expression as black-haired woman stuck a spoon in the jar and ate the jam raw.
‘’Why are you like this…’’ he mumbled to himself, eyes turning back to his math-filled registers—taking a sip of his banana milk Jungkook resumed doodling in the corner of the margin; swirls, waves and geometrical shapes merging with each other to make bizarre patterns.
‘’I don’t see you doing your homework Jungkookie’’ his mother called him out, a small smirk on her face, the boy frowned, ‘’I don’t see you finishing that assignment you were complaining about’’. A tinkling laughing reverberated throughout the room, his mother grinned as she closed the youtube tab, ‘’True son, but you shouldn’t talk to your mother like that. Your brother would be disappointed’’
The middle-schooler pouted, ‘’sorry…when is Hyung coming back home anyways? It’s been six months…’’, Jungkook folded his elbows on the granite counter-top and rested his head on them. ‘’Aigoo~Our little Jungkookie misses his hyung—don’t worry, I miss our sweet Jinnie too, a little birdie told me he’ll be back this week for his winter break’’ Soojin ruffled her son’s brown highlights fondly, her eyes crinkled as she smiled widely.
The instant the bell rung Jungkook raced out of his classroom as he waved goodbye to Yugyeom, they lived in opposite directions and Jungkook wanted to get home early just in case Jin came home earlier than expected.
The boy went to entrance of the next building where the eighth graders were pouring out, Jungkook dashed past the taller boys and girls-racing past them to reach the designated rendezvous near gate 3.
‘’Kook! Here!’’ Jungkook looked up to see two familiar faces. The first and slightly taller of the two was grinning at him; dark long bangs covering his eyes in a way that tended to annoy Jungkook’s older brother, he was skinny and his features were sharp-ears sticking out almost comically. The shorter of the two looked at the sixth grader with slight exasperation, he still had baby-fat clinging onto his cheeks-making him appeal to older people as they tended to squeal over him and pinch his cheeks.
Jungkook ran up to them, huffing slightly once he reached them. ‘’Sorry, I had to help Yugyeom with this one concept-‘’
His explanation was cut short as the taller one-Taehyung-draped his arm around the younger male, rubbing their heads together affectionately, ‘’It’s okay Kookie, me and Jimine made friends with Klimt’’
Jungkook looked at Jimin, raising his eyebrows questioningly. The other boy shrugged, ‘’He named the tree in the front yard Kl-Klimt’’ he mumbled, struggling to clearly pronounce the foreign name.
The youngest of the three nodded in understanding, Taehyung was little bit out of the norm for societal conventions-but the two accepted him as he was, it was cool sometimes when he talked about the things he enjoyed and it was a plus that he was a loyal friend who listened deeply.
The three had planned to stay over at Jungkook’s house for the day. Spend their time playing games and watching anime. They all walked in without knocking the door, Jungkook yelled out, ‘’Mom! We’re home!’’
Taehyung and Jungkook lazily dumped their bags beside the couch in the living room, Jimin ran a hand through his hair in annoyance as he placed all their bags a bit more neatly-his mother had taught him good manners.
The two guests bowed politely when Soojin entered the room, stated their greetings and then bounded off to the living room where the youngest was already rolled up on the couch.
~~~
Jungkook watched as the two fiercely fought over the remote, both wanting to watch different shows.
‘’Yah!Jimin-ah! You chose last time! It’s my turn now!’’
‘’Only because you chose the lamest shows in existence!’’
‘’I can’t believe you of all people would say that! You watch soaps!’’
‘’YAH! Mom’s always watching them!I…I can’t help it..THEY’RE NOT THAT BAD OKAY?’’
Jungkook moaned in an exaggerated fashion, eyes rolling to the back of his head as he leaned back into the couch. ‘’You both are lame, I should be the one to choose Jimin and Taehyung’’
‘’Yah! I’m your hyung!’’ two voices shrilled together. ‘At least they agreed on something’ Jungkook thought as he smiled cheekily. The 12 year old felt a sharp whack to the back of his head, he whined and looked behind him to see his mother looking at him sharply with her light brown eyes but her small smile gave way how cute she found his teasing, pouting childishly the boy muttered, ‘’Okay.okay...taehyung-hyung’’
The person in question grinned brightly, his straight teeth coming out in a exuberant box-like smile. His same-age friend leaned forward smirking arrogantly at Jungkook, eyes big in anticipation.
‘’And…Shorty-Hyung’’
‘’YAH!’’, Jimin yelled out in anger as he leapt on the couch and started to pinch at Jungkook’s sides, ‘’You’ll pay for disrespecting me!’’. Taehyung-the ever opportunist-took this distraction as his chance to claim the television remote as his own and switched the channel to his favorite anime; One piece.
‘’HOHOHO’’ he yelled as the rattling skeleton appeared on screen. Soojin groaned as the three huddled around the television and cranked up the volume, ‘’Turn the volume down or you won’t be getting those nuggets!’’
The volume decreased instantly as Taehyung yell-whispered, ‘’No!I can’t live without those!’’
~~~
It was around 6pm when the bell rung, around three hours since Taehyung and Jimin came over. The three had ended up dozing off on the carpet after watching TV for a majority of those three hours and eating two packets of nuggets.
Jimin being the light sleeper among the three woke up, rubbing his eyes groggily. ‘’Hmm? The bell-‘’, he barely mumbled before the sharp ringing resounded again. He waited for a few minutes for Jungkook’s mother to come and attend the door, but then he remembered with gasp that she told them to quiet down while she took a nap after making their nuggets.
In hindsight the 8th grader should have waken up Ms.Kim for obvious reasons, but for whatever reason the fourteen year old sleepily walked towards the door and unlocked it, opening it to see a tall man looming man dressed in a giant pink hoodie and ripped black jeans. Jimin looked up to meeting sparkling brown eyes and a sweet smile.
‘’Hello-‘’the man began.
Jimin yelled loudly, he kept screeching as he kicked the man where he knew it would hurt and ran back inside the house. The baby-faced boy shook Taehyung and Jungkook, ‘’Guys! There is a suspicious man at the door!’’
Taehyung gasped dramatically, ‘’we’re going to die!’’ he wailed as he grasped onto his only dongsang’s shoulders and shook him in panic. Jungkook slapped Taehyung with the back of his hand, ‘’Calm yourself hyung! We must deal with this like real men!’’
‘’But you’re a baby and me and Jiminie are pre-pubescent teenagers!’’
‘’I’m not pre-pubescent!’’
‘’That high-pitched squeal isn’t fooling anyone!’’
Jungkook shoved aside the bickering pair and reached into the drawer under the TV and brought out a thick black object, he ran in front of the door as it started to open and the suspicious being stepped inside. The young boy instantly striked his target and pressed the button until the tell-tale crackling sound of electricity was heard. The man flinched back with a loud yell, eyes almost tearing up, ‘’What the fuck!’’
‘’The hell is going on?!’’
Jungkook turned around to see his mother walk towards them, her short black hair ruffled unceremoniously. Jungkook opened his mouth to explain.
‘’Is that a taser?!’’Soojin asked in shock.
Jungkook shut his mouth dumbly and opened it again, ‘’M-mom! This guy is trying to kill us!’’
Soojin gave her son an incredulous look as she helped the kneeling man sit at the kitchen counter, ‘’This is Jin you idiots!’’. Jungkook started to tear up he saw he older brother smile at him weakly , ‘’Aigoo~ Jungkookie…’’
