Work Text:
Hizashi has been coming home much later than usual. Much, much later.
Through no fault of his own, his hours were switched up, making him patrol later, host his show later, and come home later. It's tiring, to say the least, how long Hizashi has to go without sleep.
He feels bad about it, too, and not just because it's ruining his sleep schedule. He used to come home right before his husband fell asleep; he loved the quick chats they had about their day, the small kisses they shared, telling him that he loved him and him saying it back. By the time he comes back now, Shouta is already fast asleep, cuddling with their cats on his side of the bed. He hates making Shouta feel lonely like that.
Tonight was no deviation from his new schedule. He trudges into their shared bathroom around four in the morning, washing the gel and copious amount of hairspray out of his iconic hairstyle, slipping into a shirt and some sweats, and switching his shades out for his regular glasses. He sighs as he flips the light off, slinking back into their bedroom to plop down beside his husband on the bed.
Shouta is sleeping peacefully, as expected, chest rising and falling peacefully in time with his breathing. Hizashi smiles gently, pushing some stray strands of hair off of Shouta’s forehead.
“Sorry I'm so late again, baby,” Hizashi apologizes, though he knows Shouta can't hear. “This new schedule really sucks. I'm having a hard time getting used to it, myself.”
Hizashi chuckles as Shouta lets out a small hum in his sleep. “I miss being able to talk with you late at night. I know I'd talk a lot, but it was the only time we had to really reconnect after our day. I'm sorry we can't do that anymore.”
Hizashi sighs before continuing. “I'm gonna see if I can shift my schedule back to the original times. I can’t stand not being able to talk to you before going to bed. I really, truly value our time together, Shouta. I love you.”
“I love you too.”
Hizashi startles as he looks to his husband, freshly awake and rubbing softly at his eyes.
“You talk so loud,” Shouta drawls. “Woke me up.”
“Sorry, babe.”
“it's okay,” Shouta yawns, pushing himself up onto his elbow. “I missed you.”
“I missed you too.” Hizashi smiles, leaning in to press a kiss onto Shouta's forehead. “How much of all that did you hear?”
“I woke up around the part where you said you treasure our time together,” Shouta answers, smiling lazily. “You're so sappy, kitten.”
“And you —” Hizashi gently pokes Shouta's nose. “Are so tired. You should go back to sleep.”
“I’m not that tired.”
“You just called me a pet name.” Hizashi smirks playfully. “You only do that if you're trying to make me feel better, or if you're really, really tired. Go back to sleep.”
“Only if you go to sleep with me.”
Hizashi rolls his eyes, pulling Shouta into his arms. “Fine, if I must.”
“You must.” Shouta tucks his head directly under Hizashi’s chin, drawing small patterns on his husband’s back.
“What were you saying before I woke up?” He asks sleepily.
“I’ll tell you in the morning,” Hizashi answers. “Night, Shouta. Love you.”
“Love you too.”
