Work Text:

The moment Chuuya left the studio he let out a deep sigh. It was raining cats and dogs. And of course he was the last one to leave and his phone already gave up the ghost and had no energy left to call someone. Great. No really. Who wouldn't love to go to the station in a heavy breakdown of the sky in the middle of the night to get the fucking last train?

After waiting for about five extra minutes he kicked a can and gave the thought up to get dry to the station someway or another. He put his black leather jacket above his head and started to run to the station. At least the way through the park only took him twenty minutes - fifteen if he was fast, ten if he could hold this tempo but that was unlikely with this shitty weather.

He had like five-hundred meters behind when he heard a piano. He knew in the park was one arranged to play for everyone who wants but he never saw someone playing it for real. He stopped and panted. It took him a few moments until he could blend out the rain and his own breathing and only listen to the sound. It was a rather slow piece the person played and immediately made him feel sad and melancholy. He never heard a more beautiful sound than this.

I need to see that person, Chuuya thought and started to run towards the rose pavilion where the piano was placed with a few white rusty metal banks. However, the moment he arrived at the place the person was about to leave and Chuuya did the only possibility he could come up this second. "Stop!"

The person turned around and showed a sad smile at least as far as Chuuya was able to see it through the heavy rain.

"You-", he took a deep breath, "You played beautifully."

"Thank you, chibi~"

Chibi? What the hell did he mean with that? Chuuya stepped closer to the person under the pavilion and was glad to be sheltered from the rain for now. His jacket and hat didn't help much against the rain. Standing in front of him it quickly became clear what that man meant with his pet name for Chuuya. He was easily a head taller than himself. A little bit taken aback he stepped half a step back and swallowed. "Ah. I mean, I heard you from the distance and was curious who plays such a-" Chuuya stopped for a short moment mid-sentence "stunning melody."

"Now you know it what do you want from me?"

"I-" Yeah what did he want? He was so fascinated by the melody that he never thought twice about what he actually wanted. and now he was standing here in front of the pianist like a dumb fanboy. "I'm Nakahara Chuuya." He reached out with his hand. "And you?"

"Dazai Osamu.", the person introduced himself and didn't grab his hand. "I'm sorry, I can't touch you. Surprisingly enough that you can hear and see me." Dazai spun around himself and his light colored coat flew with him in the air.

Chuuya frowned at Dazai and had a huge question mark above his head. "What do you mean?" Why shouldn't he hear and see him? He was either blind nor deaf. It was rather the other way around. He had a pretty good ear for music.

Dazai turned his back to Chuuya and waited a few moments with his answer. "I'm already dead." He shrugged his shoulders as it was obvious. "But I still love the piano so I visit the earth from time to time."

Dead? So I am talking with a ghost? With a step forward Chuuya wanted to touch Dazai but he dodged the touch before Chuuya could lay a hand on him. "Really?" He had never met a ghost before so he actually found it pretty cool. "Do you mind to play again?"

"For a midget like you?" Dazai sat down on the piano stool and laid his fingers down on the white piano keys. "What do you want to hear?"

"Stop calling me small!", Chuuya complained and thought a moment about his answer. "Is-Is it okay if I give you something I wrote?"

Dazai only shrugged his shoulders.

Hasty Chuuya put his bag down and dug in it for the music sheets of his new song. He would probably never sing it in front of others because his label didn't approve the song but it wouldn't hurt to use this chance here to at least show it to one person. "Here." He reached the papers to Dazai and he looked over them.

"Should be easy." He placed them in front of him and played the first notes. He didn't have any problems to hold the tempo and played it without any mistakes.

Chuuya was so taken in the piano sound that he missed his timing to start singing.

"I'm not sure though." Dazai stopped playing and looked at Chuuya. "But I think you missed your part."

The red crept into his face. "Sorry! I-I was just-"

"Busy looking at my beauty?" Dazai laughed. "You're really something else."

Chuuya pouted. "Stop teasing me."

"Come on~ Is if I'd do something like that." With an innocent face, he looked at Chuuya and than he patted the piano seat next to him and smiled. "Sit down and we try it again."

"Aren't you lonely when no one can hear your music?", Chuuya asked while he walked towards the piano and sat down next to Dazai. His chosen piece at least indicated something like that.

"I was alone my whole life, so no - I don't feel lonely at all." Dazai turned back to Chuuya. "And now I have someone I'm able to show my pieces."

"That's a lie. How could you not be lonely?"

Dazai suddenly started to laugh. "Ahahahaha, Chuuya. You're gorgeous."

What was suddenly so funny?

Seeing Chuuya's confused face he laughed even more and tears started to run down his eyes. He swiped them away and poked Chuuya's cheek. His reaction was worth everything. "Ahaha. You should see your face, Chuuya~"

Chuuya opened his mouth and closed it. That happened a few times but he couldn't bring out actual words.

"You believed I'm a ghost without a second thought but you question that how I wasn't lonely?" He laughed even more and Chuuya punched him as hard as he could. "Ouch! - Oh, come on! Don't look at me like that! I was happy when you honestly praised my playing and let me play one of your songs. But it's late. We should meet up again."

Chuuya pouted and wasn't amused. But he was more angry about himself that he believed Dazai those words without questioning them once. "I probably missed my last train so if you don't mind I want to sing a little longer with you."

"Hopefully you get some words out of your mouth this time."
