The way you call my name-
"Chuuya, look!"
Chuuya rolled to on his back and shielded his eyes from the sun. "What is it this time?" Dazai stood right next to him and with a bright smile and a dangerous happy aura around him he sat down next to him.
Dazai reached out with his close hands and opened them in front of Chuuya's chest. On his hands were what looked like hundreds of ladybugs and crawled over his palms. "They are beautiful, aren't they, Chuuya?"
With raised eyebrows, he looked from Dazai's hands up to his face. "That are ladybugs?" Why did he catch so many of them? And why was he so happy about that?
A lighthearted laugh came from Dazai. "Chuuya is so clever~" He raised his hands up in the sky and all the small red bugs flew up into the air and looked just like small black dots. "Goodbye, little friends."
Silly but admirable how he could take everything so easy when they weren't in the mafia headquarters. Chuuya let himself fall back into the grass and covered his eyes with his arm.
"Chuuya! Chuuya!" Dazai poked him into his cheeks. "You can't doze off here!"
Grumbling Chuuya rolled himself on his side and shoved Dazai's hands away. "But I'm tired."
"But it's our free day together, Chuuya~!"
Why was he so annoying? It was a beautiful and warm spring day perfect to relax under this tree. "Hmmh, then lay your shitty ass next to me and we sleep together."
"Oh, Chuuya~"
The red crept into his face. "Fuck off!"
because it reminds me of our good times together.
The way you smile-
With a quiet click, the door to the mafia boss' office closed behind the two teenagers and they took their way outside of the headquarters. They had reported on their last mission.
Chuuya turned to Dazai when they were outside. "How could you lie so shamelessly right in Mori's face?" It wouldn't even come in his mind to do something like that but Dazai did it as if it was no big deal.
"Because I wanted." Dazai shrugged with his shoulders and snitched Chuuya's hat from his head to put it on his own. "It was just a boring mission I made a little bit funnier that way."
Jumping and taking advantage of his ability Chuuya took his hat back and shook his head. This guy was literally something else. "At least let me know about it next time." Chuuya frowned remembering the situation a few minutes ago. "Then I can back you up with your lie."
Dazai laughed. "Good joke. You're the worst when it comes to lying." He laid an arm around his partner in crime. "But maybe I consider it."
A slight blush crept into his face and he hid his face a bit under the shadow of his hat. It was probably a lie itself that he would consider it but it made him happy nevertheless. "Promise me." Chuuya stopped midway and looked directly in Dazai's face.
A bright smile laid on Dazai's face.
Chuuya's heart skipped a beat and the heat rushed in his face and ears. What? Why? What's happening? It's just that shitty smile of this bandage-wasting partner of him.
"Would I ever lie to you, Partner?"
because it always makes my heart skip a beat.
The way you stole my heart-
Chuuya put the last bandage around Dazai's arm and sighed. "You should be more cautious if I'm not there." He slapped the bruised spot on his arm and got up of his crouching position.
"But you were just on time I calculated everything."
A groan was the answer Dazai got. Chuuya was about to leave the nurse office but turned around before he left. "And stop using hints only I can understand, okay?" To be honest it made him really happy and let his heart skip a beat that Dazai depended so much on him but this time he was so close to being late that it hurt even more.
Dazai smiled at Chuuya. "But you're my partner."
Chuuya's heartbeat sped up and he quickly turned around so he couldn't see how he blushed. "I know." And I wouldn't want to change that even though you're prick shitting asshole. "But what if I'd be too late?"
"That will never happen."
Stop being so full of yourself when you don't get the hints right yourself. "Yeah, Yeah, but I'm pretty sure your ability is No Longer Human and not-" Chuuya stopped mid-sentence because spontaneously he couldn't come up with a cool name. "Master of Planning.. or something like that."
"Maybe I have two abilities?" Dazai stood up from the bed in the nurse office and followed Chuuya outside.
"Then your second ability would definitely be Stupid Idiot."
"And your's would be Uncreative As Hell," Dazai countered and sped up and with a waving movement without turning around he said: "I'll meet up with Odasaku now."
Yeah, thank your ass too for everything.
because you didn't even notice.
The way you hide your feelings-
Dazai and Chuuya were sent out on a mission together again. It happened a lot in the last months even it was nothing special today. Just a bit of spying on their new target.
"If you go around the next corner you have to fight against three ability user at once." Dazai's voice was clearly hearable in his ear and he laid his fingers on his acoustic instrument. But as clear as it was in his ears so dead it sounded at the same time. Something had happened over the last days with Dazai but he didn't want to talk and shrugged it off. "Better turn back and take the other way."
Dazai waited outside and monitored the whole thing while he gave instructions to his partner.
Chuuya struggled for a moment. Three ability users shouldn't be a problem for him but at the same time it was Dazai who said what was the best decision and he never was wrong and that jarred on the nerves of Chuuya. Not that he was stupid but Dazai was the brain and he was the one who took on the action.
With a sigh, Chuuya stepped a few steps backwards until he turned around and ran into the other direction. It really shouldn't concern me so much what's with that idiot, Chuuya thought. But it did because they were partners and he wanted to help if he had any problems. "Am I not reliable?", he asked himself loud and forgot that Dazai could here him.
"As long as you follow my orders, you are reliable."
because I can't read you.
The way you left me behind without a word-
[10:32 pm - You:] Dazai, are you okay?
Chuuya didn't sleep that night. It was the first night after Dazai had left the mafia without saying a word to him.
[11:47 am - You:] Dazai, why did you leave the mafia?
He put his phone down and couldn't believe the situation. He had heard it from Mori that Dazai had left the Mafia.
[13:59 pm - You:] Dazai, tell me where I can find you
He sighed and stared at his unchanging phone screen until the screened blacked out.
[16:12 am - You:] Answer me, Dazai
After half an hour later of waiting there was still no answer. He almost crushed his phone at his wall.
[20:27 pm - You:] Dazai, why did you leave me behind all alone?
Tears flowed down his eyes and he couldn't hold himself back. It hurt so much.
[22:39 pm - You:] Dazai, please come back to me
He felt asleep while crying.
[03:24 am - You:] I miss you.
That none of the messages went through Chuuya refused to believe even though there was a pretty obvious red sentence below every message he wanted to send. Message failed. Number not in use.
because I was always there for you.
The way you spend time with your new friends-
Dazai laid an arm around Atsushi's shoulders and whispered something into his ears what made him blush and Dazai laughed. With a smile on his face, he stole one of Atsushi's Takoyaki and ate it.
The white-haired man pouted. "Dazai-san! You said you're not hungry!"
"I just need to taste it for science, you know?" Dazai stole a second one the moment Atsushi didn't take attention on his food.
"Oh god, could you two please stop acting that lovey-dovey?" Ranpo rolled his eyes and ate his own Takoyaki. "You're not on a date if you forget that."
"I need to agree." Kunikida beat both guys with his small notebook. "We're here to enjoy the festival fireworks together."
"But Kunikida~ It's important to share fluffy moments with your friends! You should note that down!"
"I don't fall for your trick twice, Dazai."
"Oh, damn. Now my combo is broken. It would be the hundreds thing."
Atsushi blushed with those words and was unable to make a counter-attack and almost ran in someone else in a black-purple Yukata hiding his face behind his hat and hand and leaving the scene as fast as he could. He hadn't even the chance to say sorry. Atsushi looked after him and had a question mark above his head.
because I want you to look at me again.
The way you have a new partner-
"Did you hear?" Tachihara asked and looked in the group they sat together. "That traitor has a new partner."
He was speaking of Dazai.
"Oh yeah? That person has my sympathy." Chuuya shrugged his shoulders. Of course, he knew about Dazai's new workplace at the Armed Detective Agency. He knew that he found new friends and was obviously happy around them.
"Doesn't it bother you that you were replaced?" Gin looked at him and stroked through her black hair.
It bothered and hurt him a lot. "No, I'm finally free from his hyphy plans and I don't need to rescue his ass." Chuuya took the last sip of his glass and stood up from his seat. "I need to go to Mori now."
A "He always leaves when we talk about Dazai." was the last thing he heard from Tachihara before the door closed behind him. The tears watered his eyes and he took a deep breath to hold them back. It was a lie that Mori needed him but he was still barely able to think about his ex-partner without almost crying how should he be even able to talk about him with the others?
He wasn't part of Dazai's world anymore and he should move on but alone the thought of letting him go completely hurt even more than what he felt now. He left the headquarters and almost ran into Kouyou.
"Oh, that's good." Kouyou stopped Chuuya with touching his shoulder. "Ougai-dono asked for you," she explained and looked at him for a short moment before pulling him into a hug. "I know it's hard but he left and will never come back. You deserve much better."
The tears started to flow down and it took him a few minutes until he was able to speak again. With a sigh, he answered: "I'll kill him the next time we'll meet."
because I wanted to stay at your side forever.
The way you are so close-
"Four years since Dazai left the mafia, huh?" Mori said and let his fingers play on his table. "And you still don't want a new partner?"
Chuuya shook his head. "Is that everything you need me for?" Mori had called for him this morning and Chuuya had thought it was for a new mission but with that he just hadn't any motivation for the rest of the day. He didn't need a partner. He was capable of doing his jobs alone.
"No, I want to discuss the details about your fight against Lovecraft."
Chuuya frowned. "I already gave you the report last week."
Mori stood up from his chair and went around his table. He leaned against it and looked at Chuuya. "I asked Dazai to come back." Mori declared with a dry voice and Chuuya's eyes widened in surprise. "I want to bring Double Black back." He pushed himself off the table and turned his back to Chuuya. "How does it strike you?"
Having Dazai back at his side was all he dreamt of but not if it was not on Dazai's wish. "Nobody needs him."
Mori chuckled. "Of course."
"How did he answer?" Chuuya put his hand over his mouth. He didn't intend to ask that question aloud.
His gaze directed at Chuuya, Mori turned around and repeated the words Dazai had answered him.
Chuuya whole body cramped and he couldn't hold his eyes at Mori. "I'm sorry, I need to go."
because it's still too far away
The way you touched my skin-
He could feel the gentle touch on his cheek before he collapsed right above Dazai and couldn't move an inch anymore. Corruption had taken too much energy and it was already hard to hold his eyes open.
Dazai smiled at Chuuya and stroke his hair out of his bloody face. "That's the way you should treat your, princess and not punching her."
Princess? "Huh?" Did he hear that right? "What do you mean with princess?"
"You should clean your ears." Dazai pulled on Chuuya's ear and breathed into it. "I said partner!"
Chuuya concentrated on staying awake and tried to breath even but the word partner and the brief touch of Dazai's lips on his ear let his heartbeat skip a few beats until it raced with double speed ahead of him. "I don't care." It definitely lacked on impact since he was almost completely knocked out. "I'm neither your princess nor your partner."
Dazai didn't answer and Chuuya didn't say another word. Maybe it was stupid and reckless but he enjoyed being so close to Dazai again. Everything smelled sweaty and bloody but there was still the scent of their partnership. Something he will never forget. Anyway-
"They are probably looking for us soon."
Chuuya was pretty sure he only thought that sentence. Confused he tried to get up from Dazai's lap but he pushed him back down.
"So take as much rest as you can."
because it means a lot more to me than to you.
The way you are still on my mind-
Chuuya watched the ladybugs crawling over his hands. Almost seven years have passed since the last time he was here together with Daza but the memory was still vivid in his head.
He reached out for the sky with his hand and the bugs flew away. It wasn't the same beautiful sight like last time but Chuuya had a smile on his face nevertheless. One of the ladybugs remained on his hand and he held a finger in front of it. It crawled up on his tip of the finger and the moment Chuuya wanted to raise his hand it flew away.
He took his phone out typed a number he hadn't saved in his phone but knew it nevertheless.
But before he touched the green receiver button he erased all the numbers. With a sigh, he got up from the wet grass and stretched his body. "I'm probably the only one holding these feelings and the only idiot treasuring them over all those years but if you're happy then I'm happy, too."
The moment he wanted to put his phone away it buzzed in his hands. He turned it around and looked at the display to see who was calling him.
because I will never forget you,
