Two Lines

Summary:

What type of kid would two high-ranking top heroes have? For the first time in her married life, Uraraka Ochako ponders that question, along with the question of how her beloved partner will handle the news.

Chapter Text

Ochako sat determinedly, mostly because she always had, and the moment she ever faltered would most likely be on her deathbed, but she also had to be determined to process the information she now possessed. The information contained on a little stick, with two little lines that screamed: “you’re PREGNANT.”

It wasn’t as if being pregnant was terrifying her; it was only a little scary.

She was determined not to cry though.

Cry because although she was in a very healthy and happy relationship, kids only came up in passing whenever her parents mentioned it at dinner or when one of their friends had kids, it was laughed at and passed over like some wild game of hot potato, mostly because they both had very demanding jobs.

Katsuki was the number two hero. He needed to remain diligent even if the number of villains and their awful attacks had gone down by 40%; it was his job . It was some moral and ethical dilemma to consider him putting his job of protecting thousands on the line to protect and raise one child.

Additionally, Ochako was a rescue hero, ranked number three on the rescue list and number nineteen overall, but even if she wasn’t as high ranking as her husband, it wasn’t as if the number of natural disasters would go down any day. She would have to be pregnant and try to save people, and that wasn’t possible, no one would let a hero be a mom too.

Her other friends that had chosen to have kids, like Tsui and Mina, had taken a very extended leave from being heroes after training someone to take their place. Ochako hadn’t even taken a sidekick in her seven years of hero work, plus her quirk of gravity manipulation was so rare that she couldn’t so easily be replaced in a world where manipulating physics was essential to saving lives.

There was also the fact that she would have to tell Katsuki when he came home, as he would be doing that in the next hour.

She didn’t even know if he wanted kids.

He would joke about it, telling her she had child-bearing hips or that their kids would be so cute that no one would be able to say no to ‘em, or that their quirks mashed together in some kid would be indestructible.

But other than that, absolutely nothing.

They didn’t have that big what if talk, they didn’t consider names or if they wanted a girl or a boy first, which really just solidified that they were content on living only the two of them in a nice big townhouse that achingly had a room that could easily be turned into a nursery now.

Ochako stood and placed the test in a plastic bag, quickly shoving it into her purse before just grabbing her car keys and leaving her home, she needed to see someone with real advice so she could deal with this and not freak out as badly as she most definitely was doing right now.

Her drive took her straight to an office she often visited, the building was large, made mostly of stone, and covered in rock and steel as if the two heroes who owned the hero agency wanted to show off their hard-headed traits like some pokemon gym.

Ochako slid out of her small car and quickly started towards the main entrance, smiling at some starstruck citizens that were frantically whispering her name; she had been big in the press, not only because she was a big hero, but also because of her husband. You can’t just get away with being married to Bakugou Katsuki without the press eating you up and selling you as everyone's favourite heroine, as some softy that had tamed the beast, it was all garbage.

Finally inside the secretary just nodded her head towards Eijiro’s office, at this point used to seeing Ochako stroll in. The women had a phone held between her head and shoulder as she filed what looked like very very sharp nails made out of metal, and even though Ochako had dealt with her before all she could do was smile as brightly as she could without showing the fear that the lady caused in the girl. Ochako quickly turned, shuffling to the door, knocking twice rapidly before entering and closing the door behind her.

Eijiro’s office was nice and big, a large mahogany desk filled with paperwork and a laptop sits in the center with its owner sitting in an even larger plush chair staring down at something that must be very very boring. The walls were a beautiful array of slate rock, with photos hanging everywhere, all of them of Eijiro and his friends, one of the largest ones was even from her wedding, Eijiro was Katsuki’s best man and the picture captured how much they cared about each other. Her friend's eyes flickered up at the sound of the door, widening at the frazzled sight of her.

“Oh! Ocha!!” Eijiro stood and grinned at her, coming over to pull her into a hug. “You don’t visit enough; this is such a nice surprise!”

Ochako laughed and squeezed him back, humming softly. “I know, I know, it’s my only day off… I just really need to talk to you about something, and I don’t know anyone else that I can ask about Kacchan and-and” She took a deep breath, stopping herself from just rambling nervously.

“Ocha, it’s okay, why don’t you sit down.” He sits down in one of the chairs for clients, motioning over to the other one, which she sits in heavily, putting her purse on her lap.

“Well, Eijiro… I’m sort of pregnant?” It’s better to put all of her cards down on the table at least, her eyes averted from his face, but his reaction is so immediate that she can't help but look back up at him, his eyes sparkling.

“WHAT!? Holy shit! There’s going to be a little Bakugou???” He’s almost bouncing in his seat, looking up at her with such wonder in her eyes. “Do you know what gender? How far along are you? What are you going to name them?” The questions came so fast that Ochako couldn’t help but get all flustered.

“No no no! Katsuki doesn’t even know yet! I just found out, and I’m scared I won't be able to…” She sighs, her next words are heartbreaking, and she regrets them the moment she opens her mouth to say it.

“Keep them,” Eijiro answers, a sad look coming over his face. “I get why you haven't told Kacchan yet, he probably hasn’t mentioned kids yet, but.” he takes a deep breath, reaching out and grabbing her hands. “He’s going to be ecstatic, I promise.”

Ochako can feel the tears welling up, so she just nods, wiping at her eyes. She was determined, determined that she was going to do this. “I’m going to do it, I’ll tell him.” She stands and hugs him again.

“I’m glad! Let me know what he wants to name them.” Eijiro stands and opens the door to his office for her, winking quickly.

“Thank you! Love you Eiji.”

“Love you too Ocha.”

Ochako has probably watched two hours worth of people revealing they’re pregnant to their partners and can’t help but notice that Katsuki is about an hour late and hasn’t sent a single text. She can’t help but worry. What if he was like this when she was pregnant? Like very very pregnant. She understood that he was busy with work but that only made her so so scared.

She knew he could get hurt on the job and even killed, but he wouldn’t he was so strong and smart, and she was panicking now, pacing around their living room with her hands in her hair. The news was no hope, only focusing on Deku’s recent capture of some shape-shifting villain. The internet just had a warning put in saying not to leave home, that a villain was being contained. She just paced and paced and paced, her hand-wringing as she tried to think of how to tell him, in her panic she didn’t even hear the door open, when strong arms wrapped around her it startled her out of her shock, causing her to jump a bit, her feet floating off of the ground for a second before she realized who it was. In that next moment, Ochako turned and clung to her husband, kissing his neck gently as her arms wrapped so so tight around his waist.

“Hey, Sunshine.” His voice is gruff, and he sounds more than tired, his grip feels heavy around her. “I missed you, a lot.”

She laughs and kisses him on the lips, pulling away with a grin. “Hey, baby! How’d work go? There wasn’t any info on this bust!” She cups his face now, looking into his eyes, he looks tired but smiles lovingly at her.

“It was simple. Just had to sear some losers face off.” He pulls away and takes off his jacket, flexing his muscles. “You’ll be happy to hear I even worked with Deku. Totally behaved myself.” He rolled his eyes at her, already answering the question she was going to ask.

“You’re unbelievable.” She laughs finally calming down again, almost even feeling excited, it was amazing how much he shifted her mood. “Well, I, uh, have something to tell you!” She sits, clasping her hands tightly, looking up at him with big, nervous eyes. He looks a little nervous himself, slowly kicking his shoes off and sitting himself down in their leather recliner, watching her with his steady eyes.

This almost reminds her of the time he had proposed to her.

Katsuki had watched her with almost the same uneasy eyes, cautiously analyzing every movement as if she would attack him, they had been in a park, enjoying lunch on some day where they both were on call, but no villain had bothered to attack. Just as she was packing her bento box away he had gotten onto one knee, his face turning red as he began a whole speech about her much he loved her. All of her friends had pegged Bakugou as someone to propose with fire and explosions, screaming it in the middle of battle, making all of Japan know he loved her.

They both knew he didn’t have to steal the moon for her, plus his speech had caused enough explosions in her stomach to suffice.

“Well, Kacchan, I’m pregnant.”
