Fireworks

Summary:

Hugh, Robin and Juniper watch a fireworks display.

Work Text:

Hugh’s hand goes up to his neck to touch his friendship token as he, Juniper and Robin walk through the city park. Things have been tough for them these last few weeks, what with Juniper being framed for murder and all of them being dragged into court (and letting go of their best hidden secrets), but everything seems to be better now. Hugh doesn’t have to lie about being a genius, Robin can finally be the girl she has always been and Juniper isn’t nearly as terrified of the world now their friendship is back together. Yes, things are good, maybe even better than they were before.

Tonight, the three best friends are on their way to watch a fireworks display. Robin adores fireworks and Hugh thinks they are pretty, and even Juniper quite enjoys them when they aren’t making her jump. To be honest, Hugh wouldn’t mind what they were doing; as long as they are together, he is happy.

It is dark, the sky clear and sparkling with stars.

“Look, it’s a full moon!” Robin says, twirling on the spot. “Isn’t it P-R-E-T-T-Y?”

“As long as there aren’t any werewolves around,” Juniper says, smiling.

Hugh rolls his eyes, but smiles too. “I don’t think those exist, you know.”

“But you never know.”

“When are they supposed to start?” he asks.

“I can’t remember either!” Robin says, laughing.

Juniper sighs, but she’s smiling. “Honestly, what are you two like? They start at nine exactly.”

“So only four minutes to go,” Hugh says, glancing at his watch.

Robin giggles and reaches for Juniper’s hand. She takes Hugh’s hand too, and the three friends hold hands and stand together. When the fireworks start, neon colours sparking across the sky, Hugh can see his friend’s eyes sparkling. And Robin squeezes their hands.
