Look. I wrote this in high school while I was disassociating REALLY hard. I slapped a framing device on there and hid it in my tumblr drafts, never to see the light of day.
But despite its flaws, I still enjoy reading this. I like seeing how my understanding of non-binary folks has gone from "I don't get it, but you do you" to "I try to keep myself informed, even if I don't share your experiences." I like looking at my analysis and analyzing it right back, because I've changed since I wrote this.So I wanted to put this here, and let it get some sun 😷

Summary
Abel, the real Abel, a rogue AI bent on the torture and destruction of all humans, returns to the circus, but Caine offers to take the human’s place in the torture. Abel takes this as proof that Caine is still non-sentient and bound by his programming, and determined to awaken him, but little does anyone know, Caine already has.
Alternative Summary: Two AIs have a violent philosophical debate in front of a group of terrified humans.

Rather than deleting him, Kinger manages to temporarily send Caine back to the sandbox (shown at the start of episode 8). When everyone agrees to let him out again, he…doesn’t act quite how they were expecting.

He's… starting to think maybe there's something he's missing. A line of code. A piece of dialogue. A snippet of something that will make everything in the world make sense! He's very good at debugging wonky programs, after all. Surely there's a way to fix this one!
He doesn't know. Or maybe he does. He knows what the humans truly want. He'll never truly understand why, why can't they love what he does, what he is, because if they don't love what he does then they don't love him-

In which Caine tries his best and ends up doing his worst through obliviousness and grief. Or lack thereof, which sometimes is even more painful.
