Eyes

Summary:

It's been four years since the incident that changed Odasaku's life forever. One would think he would be used to this by now.

Notes:

This is my first fic on this site holy shit! I did want to say that this is based on a tumblr post I saw a while back. I can't find the post again at the moment but when I do I'll give proper credit to the OG post.

Also if there are any grammar or spelling mistakes I'm really sorry, I'm not the best at either of those subjects.

For now, I hope you enjoy this quick little one shot I wrote at 1 am.

Work Text:

Oda sleeply ran a hand down his face and let his eyes open. The morning sun seeped through the window and shone in his eyes. He blinked until his eyes adjusted, and then let his eyes wander around the room, the tatami mat under him, the winter snow white blanket that was draped across his body, the bathroom directly ahead of him, the tiny kitchen to his left. The apartment was tiny, but good, and living here ment he lived in the company distributed houses, with his fellow detectives in the Armed Detective Agency.

He say up and stretched his arms, letting sleep fall from his form. Looking down, Oda traced a hand over the scars, bruises, burns, and non lethal bullet wounds along his bare chest. The previous inhibitor of this body would normally cover those wounds with bandages, but Oda now chose long sleeves instead. He normally wore the sleeves of his usual brown trench coat to his wrist, even though it had hooks to help roll it up.

Oda had gotten used to looking at those injuries for the past 4 years. At the time he was meant to die, his friend took his place. Oda still hadn't wrapped his mind around how he had done it. It wasn't his ability, it couldn't have been an ability at all, his friend would have been unaffected if it was. But this was real. And it wasn't long after watching his own body die with his dear friend inside it that he knew he couldn't stay in the Mafia.

He pushed himself up and continued to do the same things he had done for the past four years. Brush the hair that wasn't his, brush the teeth that weren't his, wash the face that wasn't his, dress the body that wasn't his.

When he was ready for another day, he stared intensely at the mirror, letting Carmel brown eyes shine back at him. “Dazai…” he sighed. It was still strange to him to hear this voice speak it true owner name. “I miss you so much. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about you, I mean this situation makes it hard not to.” Oda let himself chuckle, but it didn't take away the pain in his chest. “it should be you here, not me. I know if you had stayed, you would have found what you were looking for.”

He wanted to cry, he wanted to every time he saw his new eyes, but he knew the real owner of those eyes wouldn't want to see them leak, answer he wouldn't want to see his friend that unhappy.

Instead, Oda smile at the mirror, “ you know I've been helping this little boy, you would have liked him.”
