It’s not like Jacob isn’t attractive. Jacob looks like he could snap Staci in half and for whatever reason--piss-poor survival instincts, probably, just look at what his life has become after all, maybe some terrible wires in his brain that crossed his sense of danger with arousal--that gets him worked up.
