Notes:

First Octo Expansion story. Please leave some Kudos to show support!

Chapter Text

She awoke on the platform.

Her lime green tentacles were blown from a slight breeze coming from the direction of the glowing sun. Never in her life has she apreciated the sun this much as she did now. She squinted due to the bright object's blinding light beaming down at her. Finally, she was back on the surface again instead of the underground where there are telephones that can blend you to your death. It's been some time since she felt that summer breeze.

Agent 3 took a quick look at her surroundings. She looked to her left.A tiny pink inkling was being tackled by a tall exotic turquoise octoing.Okay, not the weirdest thing she's seen since she was put in the Deepsea Metro. She took a brief look to her left and BOI did her heart drop.

In a squatting position was a pink octoling in a mohock hairstyle smiling softly at her. The boy wore black leather with one sleeve and had neon hospital bands on his right arm and left leg.

Her cheeks were tinted pink after seeing him smile at her. She shook her head which made her whimper in pain and lightly touch the back of her head. Fingers brushed against the plaster trying not to pain herself again.

The octoling got up from his side of the platform to help the tiny agent out. He held out his hand and she hesitantly took it.

"His hand is so warm and s-soft and STOP IT KRYSTAL.How do you even stutter in your thoughts? Just be cool..."

When she stopped talking to herself she noticed his eyes looking at her own. Amber met Violet and the 2 kept on gazing at each other.

"Wow. She looks cute up close when we're not fighting and all..."

They were broken out of their trance when the Captain spoke to Agent 3.

"Ahh, Agent 3! Good to see you up and running bucko,"

She nodded at him and realised she was still holding the octoling's hand.

"Oh that reminds me! Agent 3 meet Agent 8. This young lad got us out of that place and saved the world!"

Agent 8 waved at her and said a 'hi' loud enough for her to hear.

"Hopefully you 2 will become great friends! Back at home Agents 1,2 & 4 are waiting for us."

Agent 3 furrowed her brows.

"There wasn't an Agent 4 that last time I checked."

"That's because they recruited them when we were out bucko!"

Agent 3 slowly nodded. Another new agent? Soon the Splatoon will have an army.

The cephalopods she saw hugging earlier had walked up to 8 and started a conversation with him.

"Welcome to Inkopolis, kid!"

"Anything you need just come an ask us!'

"Marina, we should totally throw a welcoming party for him! He's like our child now."

"Oh yes! That way he can mingle and have more friends!"

Meanwhile Agent 8 stared at the orange sky. It had become morning in Inkopolis and the sky looked beautiful. He looked at the white clouds drifting away and the sun reflecting in buildings' mirrors. So this was Inkopolis.

 "Do you like the view?"

Agent 3 came beside him.

"L-Like it? I absolutely love it! I could never imagine seeing something amazing."

3 felt a bit weird from his comment but she shook it off.

"...That's good to hear..."

They stood in silence looking at Inkopolis as the helicopters flew near.

The helicopters dropped them off in the backgarden of Pigmy Mansion- Pearl's house.

"Alrighty," Pearl said while putting her phone away, "The Limo should be coming in a minute. If you want a snack go raid my kitchen."

And with that being said, Agent 3 ran off to get some food. Marina expected Agent 8 to go with her but he just stood still.

"Eight, you should go get a snack too. You deserve it after all those tests you had to do."

Eight looked at her with delight.

"Thank you Mommy Marina!" he said while taking off to the kitchen.

Tears swelled up in Marina's eyes.

"Woah, Rina. Are you okay?"

She nodded while tears ran down her cheeks, "He called me Mom. Pearl, our son called me his Mommy!"

Pearl laughed at that. She thought Marina was upset over something but it was just tears of joy.The laughing stopped as she heard the honk of the car.

"The Limo is heeere! Captain and Rina go to it and I will go find those Agents."

Craig and the pop star slowly made their way to it. Pearl ran to the kitchen to find chocolate covered over 8's mouth.

"You really are a child," She said as got a napkin and wiped his mouth."Where's 3?"

After his mouth was clean he spoke back to her.

"She went to the bathroom and she's-

"-Right behind you." Three finished his sentence for him.

Poor Pearl who is a jumpy person and can not stand still if her life depended on it, screeched (which felt and sounded like the same volune as she did with that killer wail) and wacked Agent 3 in the stomach. She clutched her belly in pain and cripled to the floor.

"Owwww....."

"Whoopsie um er sooooo like we are supposed to be in the limo and I know this may never mind WILL sound rude but like can you hurry and get up? We reallyyy need to get going and I'm sorry btw."

Agent 3 glared at her but stopped because she said sorry. 8 helped her up (Again) and followed after his other mom. Marina was standing outside the limo when she saw the three.

"Where were you guys? Never mind let's just hop in."

Agent 8 held the door open for them.

"Ladies first."

Agent 3 murmured thank you to him on her way past and sat on a seat.

"Look at him, he's all grown up!" Marina sniffed.

"To the studio!" Pearl shouted to the driver.

"Aren't we going to the Canyon?"

"Yeah but they're not supposed to know that."

 "Oh okay."

 "We are here!"

The driver dropped them off behind the studio. Pearl stretched her legs since she normally doesn't sit for that long. They walked to a small manhole that was right outside Ammo Knights.

"Why are we next to the manhole when we are meant to be at the Canyon?" Asked Pearl.

"This is the entrance to the Canyon." Answered Three.

Pearl looked at her with a deadpanned expression.

"Seriously?"

The look went away.

"Alright I'm not judging."

They all slithered through the grate and down the hole.

"I wonder when they'll be here." Marie wondered.

"Yeah I want to see 3 again!"

"Who's 3?" Asked Agent 4.

"Oh that's a nickname for Agent 3. She's pretty chill once you get to know her." Callie said as she smiled.

"Ok..."

Just then 3 squids and 2 octopi jumped out of the grate.

"Girls!"

"Grandpa!"

The Squid Sisters rushed over to the Captain.

"We missed you gramps." They said in sync.

"I missed ya too buckos."

The rest of the Splatoon looked at the heartfelt reunion and Agent 3 decided to speak up.

"Guess who's back?"

"Come here you!" Marie shouted as 3 came in.

Captain Cuttlefish ended their long hug. He looked at the agent behind his grandaughters.

"I hear you young man are Agent 4?"

Agent 4 sputtered, "Y-Yes sir!"

"Well great job on saving the zapfish."

Agent 3 sighed. The Great Zapfish disappeared again. Octavio really was desperate.

"We need better security. He might break out again."

"True that Pearl."

"Ohoho! I'm not on introductions but Agent 4 you should meet Agents 3 & 8. Don't worry 8 is a good octoling, he saved the world!"

Agent 4 turned to Three. This was Agent 3? She must be pretty damn strong despite her tiny figure.

"Hi..."

She just nodded.

 "So.This is awkward."

He cleared his throat.

"My real name is Marcus. Callie & Marie have told me alot about you and I admire your work. Don't get the wrong idea though."

"...I'm Krystal..." She said while giving him a thumbs up.

"Agent 8 is over there. He doesn't remember much so don't bombard him with questions."

"Cool."

"Eight, these are the Squid Sisters. They are the ones who created the Inkantation." Said Pearl.

Agent 8's eyes went as wide as saucers.

"That heavenly melody... Thank you! It made me see the light and make me leave the Octarians."

The Squid Sisters laughed at his adorable expression.

"Anytime."

"Yeah it's always great meeting a fan!"

"If you don't mind me asking, what happened down there?"

Agent 8 shivered. He remembered all the test fails, a talking phone that basically made him build his coffin, him fight Agent 3...

"Horrible..." he said in a low voice.

"Don't worry, I will explain it for them." Marina spoke up.

She gave them a brief explanation of 8's journey to the 'Promised Land'. Marina told them about the technology down there and how a telephone mind controlled Agent 3. Callie was absolutely horrified.

"How dare they!" She gasped, "Not only did they nearly blend Gramps and 8 but they controlled 3!"

Agent 3 overheard Callie's sentence reminding her of the battle with Eight. She remembered his sad face when he realised it was her he was going to fight.

"W-What?" She muttered while turning to them.

The ink that the phone used on her, she felt coming again at her right eye. It stung. Her right eye was probably 3/4 turquoise instead of her lovely violet. That disgusting ooze seemed to be taking over her body as she put her hands on her head. This got everyone's attention.

"Are you okay 3?" Agent 4 asked worriedly.

No. She wasn't.

The immense pain continued until she fell to the ground and lost consciousness. The last thing she heard were the desperate cries for her name.

Chapter Text

Agent 3 gained consciousness and opened her eyes for what felt like the hundreth time today. She was certainly not in a good mood and her forehead pinging like a pimple about to burst didn't help at all. 3 turned her head to the right. She saw Callie, Marie & Marcus. Her eyes scanned the left. Pearl, Marina & Agent 8 stood close to what she saw was a-

-Was she on a bed??? Marcus noticed that she had stirred and woken up so he nudged Marie.

"Ahh, Agent 3. Nice to see your head back in the ga-" She started.

"They were Hella worried about you!" Pearl shouted, not caring about what Marie had to say.

"Yeah! I'm sorry if I said something wrong." Callie added.

Three waved her hands.

"No no, don't blame yourself. I'm just still effected by that goop."

"Okay but are you sure you're fine? Half of your right eye is turquoise and around it is the faded colour of that ink." Marie questioned.

Agent 3's heart sank as she panicked.

"...Give me a mirror..."

Marina passed a hand one from a drawer behind her. She studied the right side of her face carefully. She blinked, looked closely and repeated the process until she looked at the Splatoon then down at the mirror in her small hands.

"...Cool."

Pearl didn't buy it.

"Yeah sure but I'll let this slide."

"No really, this scar is crazy awesome. It will unatract people which is exactly what I want."

"Um why would you want that?" Asked Marina.

"Sometimes when I'm in the Square or Plaza I would get hit on."

Marie scoffed.

"Whatever helps you sleep at night."

"Where are we anyways?"

Callie beamed," This is me & Marie's apartment in Flounder Heights. After you fainted Marcus carried you here since it was close."

3 looked at him for a brief moment but looked away since he saw her making eye contact.

"Why would he do that? He barely knows me. I'm surprised they didn't make 8 do it."

She got up but then realised she wasn't wearing her normal Agent outfit. Instead she was wearing a Camo Zip Hoodie and black trainer socks. She couldn't of changed herself since she was knocked so that would of meant...

Someone undressed her.

3's cheeks were lightly coated in pink as she asked her question.

"W-WHO PUT ME IN THESE CLOTHES?!?!!"

Everybody turned to one person in the room.

"Fine, I did it. But you've been wearing that Hero Jacket for ages." Callie whined.

Three's face twisted in disgust as everyone must of saw something um very private. Callie saw her facial expression and panicked.

"Don't get the wrong idea! 8 & 4 didn't see anything only me & Marie did"

"You have a nice build though by the way~" Marie teased.

"S-Shut up."

Agent 3 couldn't lie. Three years of fighting for the zapfish and beating Octarians did do her justice. She was a tiny girl with nice curves that she inherited from her mother's side. She wasn't really that busty but she had a good enough size. Recently Three was stuck underground for sometime and you could imagine what she had to eat. Heck, Marie's comment made her feel even skinnier.

"Where are my old clothes?"

"Oh they're in the wash. You need to take care of yourself agent."

Pearl chimed into their conversation.

"Now that your up and running lets play some Marinko Kart 8 Deluxe on Marie's Inktendo Squitch!"

"Hell yeah!" shouted Agent 4 aka Marcus.

"Oh my God, I need to destroy you all of you scrubs." boasted Marie.

"Count me in!" Callie chirped.

"What is that?" Asked Agent 8 with eyes as adorable as a puppy.

"You'll see when they play! I enjoyed it when I first came to Inkopolis."

"Oh okay Momina."

Marcus nearly choked on thin air.

"Momina?"

"Mommy Marina!"

He still looked as puzzled as ever.

"It's just a cute nickname he calls me."

"TO THE LIVING ROOM!" Pearl announced proudly.

The 4 excited players sprinted to the room while Marina, Agent 8 & Agent 3 slowly trailed behind. The first game they played, Pearl got 1st, Marie 2nd, Marcus 4th and Callie 6th.

"Hey no fair!" Callie puffed out her cheeks.

"You smuggled that horn and used it when we were all nearby." Complained Marie.

"Eh," Pearl shrugged."Guess I destroyed all of you."

"Oh yeah?W-well whoever comes 1st next time can make the three other players do what they want." Callie challenged.

"Oh it is on!" Marcus pumped.

The four of them competitively played while yelling the best insults they could at each other.

 "Haha!"

"Ugh!"

"Woah-Woah!"

 "Wait a minute..."

"Yeah wait..."

"We can't stop it's Marinko Kart -_-"

"BLUE SHELL INKOMING!" Callie yelled.

The blue shell hit Marie, Pearl & Marcus but not Callie since she was a bit behind. They were in an online lobby and she was able to take the lead but another player was gaining on her. The finish line was just metres away. It's Callie, wait no the other player! Callie, Player, Callie, Player and It's-!

"OH MY COD YASSSSSSSSSSS!" Callie screamed as she got up to do her victory dance.

"Noooooo..." The others said in defeat as they crossed the finish line.

"Um, that was, er okay?" Marcus said a bit astonished she won.

After Callie came first, Marcus came 8th, Marie 7th and Pearl 9th.

"She beat us..."

"I came last this time..."

"Cheer up Pearlie and Marie," Marina said while watching them." I'm ordering pizza!"

Callie's eyes lit up.

"Yay! I have to be able to take a slice of each of your pizzas because of our deal."

The three losers groaned in sync.

"Hehe!"

Meanwhile, Agents 3 & 8 sat quietly together- none of them breaking the uncomfortable silence. Three had her knees up to her chin as she was deep in thought about earlier.

"No really, this scar is crazy awesome. It will unatract people which is exactly what I want."

Those words repeated in her head. Really and truly she didn't want that scar on her face. She hated it as it always will remind her of that fateful day. The day she hurt him.

"Are you okay?"

The question caught her off guard and snapped her back to reality.

"Yes what's it to you?"

That was all she could muster at the time. Agent 8 frowned for a split second before opening his mouth to say something.

"I just want to see people happy and clearly you aren't. Please talk to me 3, it might help you."

She stared into his amber eyes before giving in and sighing.

"I don't like my scar." She said trying not to break down.

"I hate it! It just reminds me of what happend down underground."

She finally broke down.

"Ahh! Don't cry. Just remember it's not your fault. It's the telephone that did this to you." Agent 8 said as he wrapped his arms around her.

"...Thank you 8." She quietly said in his arms.

The two stayed embraced in each other for a bit.

"OMG PEOPLE IT'S HAPPENING. OUR SHIP MUST SAIL!!!!" Shouted Pearl.

Chapter Text

Pearl & Marina smiled at the 2 agents cooped up next to each other. They were quite cute cuddled up on the couch though they wouldn't say it to Agent 3's face.

3 looked up from her position. She saw Off the Hook's grinning faces and sprang up.

"D-Don't, er- When's the pizza?" 3 said as a stuttering mess.

The idols quietly giggled among themselves.

Meanwhile, the other agents were playing Kirby Splat Allies. Callie, the victor from last game, was player one, Pearl Player 2, Marie Player 3 and Marcus Player 4.

"THIS GAME IS SOOO CUTE!!!!" Gushed Callie.

"Nice, now can we hurry up and kick Dedede's butt?!" quipped Pearl.

Marcus (As Burning Leo) fainted under the mighty blow of the King. The other 3 just simply ignored that he just got bodyslammed. Marie who was Chilly noticed him on the floor and headed towards him.

"Thanks for revi-"

She didn't. Instead she just squatted beside him.

"oH COmE oN!11!11!!"

As the team got King Dedede's health halfway, the Furious King airily smashed the floor taking them underground.

"Huh!??!" Callie said puzzled.

Marie on the other hand was merry.

"Now this is what I paid for!"

"BUFF DEDEDE!!!" Pearl added.

Kirby, Chilly and Driblee defeated the King of De and their characters did a little victory dance.

"I still can not get over how cute this is."

After defeating the level, something popped up on the screen.

"Legendary character?" Asked Marcus.

"Yeah, my boy Bandana Dee is here!" answered Pearl.

"Dont forget Marx!" Said Marie.

"Even though I would love to play longer, that's enough guys. Pizza should be here any mi-"

Ding-Dong!

Callie and Pearl rushed to the door.

"REENA! GET THE MONEY!!!"

Krystal (Agent 3) picked herself up and walked to the kitchen to get a plate for her pizza. She thought about her moment with 8 and her letting out all her feelings. That word had a funny taste in her mouth.

Ugh, when did I ever do that stuff? Am I losing my stoic touch? Is it because last week a kid called me a tsundere? I still remember when people teased me and called me Kuudere and Yangire. I'm rarely ever lenient towards people. Wow I should stop surrounding myself with other inklings that obsess over anime and stop thinking about this stupid subject.

Pearl snapped her out of her train of thoughts and placed the boxes of pizza right beside her.

"Okay y'all! We have Pepperoni, Barbecue Base, Hawaiian and Cheese pizza from Dominkos!"

Everyone crowded around the counter.

"Alright, which one first?" Said Callie as her hand went inches towards the Pizzas.

Marie slapped her hand.

"Callie don't be rude! I think 8 should have first choice."

"Oh yeah right."

All eyes were on 8 as he studied the pizza.

"Hmm.Small round pieces of meat stream across, Pineapple with a nice texture, Saucy and greasy, plain with an ordinary tatste... guys I'm not sure what to pick."

"Yes decisions to make. Though to my likings, I'm not a very big fan of meat so Pepperoni isn't a great choice for me. Oh! But Hawaiian has pineapple which is a fruit and-" Marina rambled.

"Nerd outtttt." Pearl shouted-whispered.

"Okay to keep it simple I want Cheese." Agent 8 finally concluded.

"And I want Hawaiian!" Said Marina.

"Octarians always go full out on explaining things am I right?" Pearl nudged both 3 & 4.

After the 2 Octolings grabbed their slices, the Inklings took theirs and Callie had most of it.

They sat on the couch all chewing their pizzas. The only thing that could ne heard was satisfying crunches that sounded like asmr until Pearl broke the silence.

"Hey 3, what are you- *burp* what are you like?"

Krystal didn't expect a question directly to her so she nearly choked on her pizza.

"...Well I like to keep to myself as being an agent has taught me to be cautious and like to work on important things."

"Okay! Four, your turn."

"I like to lighten up the mood and be that extra boost of confidence that you need. Be that shoulder to cry on and protect people in their time of need. I believe that everyone needs a bit of fun in their lives and I also love memes."

"Meme child eh? Two opposites attract."

Pearl scratched her chin for a moment.

"Squid Sisters! Rina! These squids deserve a lil' lullaby."

"Ooo! I love singing for people!" cried Callie.

The 2 duos for ready and Marie counted them in. It was a little melody of Into the Light and Fresh Start combined. It seemed that they had practiced for months because of their perfect co-ordination. Krystal didn't know how much she needed that as she hung her head low-

and right onto Marcus' shoulder.

As they continued to sing the girls realised that 3's head was on 4's instead of 8's and nor 8 or 4 were both bothered by it.

"Mission failed." Thought Marie.

"3 can't you do something right for once." Thought Pearl.

Off the Hook & The Squid Sister's finished the song with a very amused 8.

"Wow that was wonderful!" He said with his hands clasped together.

"Thank you! 3, you good there?" Asked Callie.

Krystal shot her head up.

"Y-Yeah. S-sorry 4." She said clearly embarrased.

"It's fine Krystal. That was actually quite nice~" teased Marcus.

Three put her hood on to hide her clear blush while Four laughed.

"I'm heading to bed."

Krystal arose and walked towards the spare bedroom.

"I'm following you and making sure you change! Hygiene is important you know?" Said Callie.

3 opened the door to the room with Callie close behind closing it.

"Okay lemme look for something cute for you that will make the boys fawn."

"WHAT THE CARP CALLIE!?!?!?!"

"Here~" she said as she threw an oversized Red Zekko Hoodie at her.

Krystal put it on like an obedient child. The sleeves were floppy for her and the hoodie nearly went down to her knees. It was so large that the hood covered her eyes when it was up. Callie got rubber bands and let Krystal's long lime green tentacles be looped and tied up near her suction cups.

"There, now you look super cute!"

"I just want to finish my pizza. Can you bring it to me?"

Callie laughed.

"Oh no! Get it yourself so everyone can see how pretty you are!"

Krystal sighed.

"Ugh fine."

The girls walked back to the living room to find everybody playing Uno.

"Hey Callie! Hey- Oh my God you look so adorable!" Marina gushed.

8 & 4 dropped their cards to look at her.

"You look very nice Agent 3!" Chirped 8.

Marcus got up and came closer towards her.

"Is that... mine?"

"Is it? Okay I guess I should give it back to you." Krystal said overjoyed that she spent have to wear the big jumper anymore.

"Nah keep it. It looks twice as cute on you. Mostly because it's oversized." He smirked.

Krystal kicked his leg.

"Stop it.."

Grumpily, 3 pushed 4 out of her way and ate her pizza.

"YESSS!!!" 8 shouted.

"Seriously??? He had a +4!" Groaned Marie.

"Inkling games are so much fun!"

Krystal headed into the room to sleep. Pearl, Marina, Callie & Marie got up to go to their rooms.

"8 & 4 you're sharing rooms as 3 is a girl and needs her space. See ya in the morning!" Waved Pearl.

8 turned to look at Marcus. He was using his phone not paying attention to his surroundings. He tapped him on the shoulder.

"Pearl told me we're sharing rooms..."

Marcus looked up from his SquidPhone X.

"Alright. I need to hit the hay anyway." He said while walking towards their room.

"Hit the- what?"

"It's just an expression."

Marcus opened the bedroom door to find 3 looking through a drawer.

"Why are you still up Little Missy?"

"To get a charger and never ever call me that in your life otherwise I will turn you into Squid Rings." Krystal answered as she barged him on the way out.

"Ooo! A little feisty firecracker you are lil' Gem." He teased.

"If you call me Gem, Jewell or even Diamond I swear I'll and you!" She shouted down the corridor.

"Rock it is." He said jokingly.

"I HAVEN'T EVEN KNOWN YOU FOR A FULL DAY!!!"

Marcus snickered.

"Hahahehehah. She is SO much fun to mess with."

Agent 8 flopped down on the bed, sighing when connecting with it. Marcus sat down too untying his two tentacles at the back.

"You happy to be up here?" He asked 8.

8 beamed.

"Yes! Everybody is so amazing. I don't know why I deserve this."

"You saved the world just like me & 3. That's something."

"Yeah but I just inked a statue and you guys single handedly defeated an army."

"You're just as good as the rest of us 8. Now get your well deserved rest."

Marcus flicked the lights off and hopped into his bed. Meanwhile, 8 was wrapped up in his bed sheets wide awake.

"I can't believe I made it. I wish to explore Inkopolis though. Maybe I should ask Marcus and Krystal about it tomorrow. I'm not sure if it's me but when I talk to her I notice the little things she does."

Eight drifted off to sleep in his deep thoughts.

Chapter Text

Agent 8 woke up to sunlight peeking through the curtains. He opened his eyes and looked around the room and finally looked upon Marcus. The boy was still sound asleep which 8 expected for an inkling as Octarians are early risers. Eight stretched and yawned before standing on his feet. That was the best sleep he had in his lifetime.

He walked out of their room and down the corridor. When he came to 3's room, 8 took a little look inside. He knew he shouldn't be intruding and knew that the agent wouldn't like it but he was drawn to it like a fly. Her covers were wrapped around her as if she were a sausage in a hot dog and her mouth was slightly open. Krystal's light snores could be heard which made the scene a bit cute to him.

He stared at her lips that were inches away from her pillow. Those soft rosy lips. Oh how he had the sudden urge to-

"Mornin' Agent Eight!" Boomed a squeaky voice.

Pearl stood right behind him with a hand on his back which made the octoling jump a little.

"HUH?WHATCHA DO-"

"sHhSShsHsHhHHhhhH!!!" 8 whispered-shouted.

Pearl saw the door ajar and a sleeping Krystal on the bed. A smirk crept onto her face as she thought a bit more.

"Are you watchin' Krystal sle-"

"hAHa L-lEt's GO!" Agent 8 said as he pushed her away.

"Alrighttt."

Pearl and 8 came to the kitchen where Marina was preparing breakfast.

"Mornin' REENA!" Greeeted Pearl.

"Hm?"

Marina turned around.

"Oh Good Morning Agent 8 and Pearlie!"

Marina was cooking scrambled eggs with beans in toast.

"Do you want some?"

"Yes please!" Replied 8.

Agent 8 sat down at the dining table while Pearl boiled the kettle. Marina gave a portion of food to him when Marie walked in.

"Mornin you guys. Hime poor me a cup of Cof' please."

Pearl hummed.

Marie & Marina both took their seats in silence as Eight gobbled up his food.

"Here ya are."

"Thanks." Marie said as she took a sip.

"So what are you doing today?" Asked Marina.

Agent 8 swallowed his food.

"Hoping I was able to try some turf war with 3 & 4 and kind of relax from all the stuff happening underground."

"You will love battling with friends up on the surface 8. I still remember when I first tried with Pearlie! Ahhh, her face was unforgettable!"

"Excuuuse me if I never knew you were an elite in the army." Said Pearl.

Just then, Krystal walked into the kitchen with not the happiest expression. She went straight to the fridge and opened an energy drink.

"Um good morning?"

 "Mornin' Marie..."

"What's got you down?" Asked Pearl intrigued.

"Just tired."

"Really? Because when me & 8 sa-"

*Cough* *Cough*

Agent 8 covered his mouth and stared down Pearl.

"Uhhh, forget I said anything."

Agent 8 smiled.

"Mornin' Lil Gem."

Krystal turned around with a look of disgust. Marcus was awake and standing in the doorway grinning.

"Did you have a good night's rest?"

"If it's an escape from you then yes."

"Ha.Ha."

Before Marcus could move, Callie ran in shoving him out the way.She clearly looked excited and held.....Theme Park tickets???

"So I was searching behind my bed looking for any lost money and stuff and I totally forgot about these! Oh and I have 8 of them." Said Callie.

"Hey that's perfect! What better way to start 8's life in the surface." Shouted Pearl.

"Then it's settled." Added Marie.

3 & 8 both began to walk towards the door but both stopped when they noticed where the other was headed.

"How rude of me, after you." 8 spoke politely.

"Thanks..." Quietly said 3.

"My OTP~"

"Shush Pearlie."

After everyone was ready and rearing to go they left for Inkopolis Train Station. The idols wore shades and masks to avoid being swarmed by fans and the Agents wore their casual clothing. In the Station, Cephalo-Kids blasted 'Diss-Pair' on the stereos, sketchy people were offering items at lower prices and others waited for the train.

"Here's the station 8! I once streamed a rap battle live here!" Shouted Pearl over the booming music.

"Reminds me of the metro except we are not hundreds of metres underground..." he replied.

Agent Eight suddenly noticed Krystal's absence.

"Where did 3 go?"

"I see her over there! And she's-!?!"

3 was dancing with a gang of inklings which were around 80% male. Her head bopped and hips swayed in time of the music, she was actually pretty good!

"Wow! I haven't seen that girl so loose since we saved the Zapfish!" Exclaimed Marie.

"Yeah! I remember those good 'ol days."

"Oh the train.Go get her 4 or 8."

The boys hummed in agreement and went towards 3.

”Krystal! You know these guys?” Asked 8.

”Old friends of mine from the Plaza. Ah, the good ol days...” She spoke fondly.

“Well your dancing was pretty fresh and definitely gets me inked up!” Marcus said with fists pumped up in the air.

”Okay dweeb let’s not keep the rest of them waiting.” She said before leaving 4 & 8 behind.

”Rock, wait for meee~!”

Chapter 5: Amusement Rides

Summary:

In which, the gang go to Wahoo World.

Chapter Text

The Splatoon walked into the train and took their seats. 4 purposely sat beside Agent 3 who had 1 foot resting on her knee and her arms folded. Closing her eyes, Krystal sighed as Marcus leaned slightly towards her with a smirk on his face.

"So...you come here often?" He said with pride pouring into his voice.

Three's hands balled into fists as she turned away.

"Aw, it's like I'm talking to a brick wall..."

"Well I don't wanna talk to a squid that's annoying as you," She barked.

"Well it takes one to know one!"

"You wanna go mate??!!?" She shouted as their foreheads clashed together, both having an angered expression.

"CAN YOU TWO SHUT THE SHELL UP?" Pearl intervened.

All cephalopods on the cart turned their heads to the source of the sound before Pearl noticed and sheepishly smiled.

"hoLy sQuIT thEre arE SALmOnOIds oN tHE trAcKS!!!!" Callie used as a distraction.

They took that as an opportunity to get off seeing as they have reached the next stop. After they walked up the stairs, they took notice of blue waves crashing against the coast below thinking how something so beautiful could be also harmful to Inklings and Octolings. Marie took the tickets as they strolled over to one of the entrance lines for Wahoo World. Gradually, the line shortened and it had became their turn.

She slid the tickets through the gap for the jellyfish inside the booth to take in return.

"5 adults and 2 teens please," She said politely.

"Thank you, enjoy yo- my cod! Say, are you Marie from the Squid Sisters?" The jelly beamed as they peered closer, "I know that you no longer host the news but I was a great fan of yours."

"Heh," She smirked as she folded her arms and gestures at herself with her left thumb, "The one and only."

As quickly as they had left the train, the group gained their tickets and entered the theme park. As they wondered around Wahoo World, the only things that could be heard were laughter and screams. Agent 3 looked around nervously before keeping her head down. Public places such as theme parks weren't really her thing.

"Hey, why don't we play Darts first?" Marcus suggested with a goofy smile.

"Yo, The Chaoscoaster looks sick. Can we go on that?" Pearl asked her companions, hopping up and down like a kid getting their present on Splatmas.

"Yeah, no." He responded almost too quickly, upsetting the poor squid. "Why don't we let Krystal decide?"

Krystal, being Krystal, was in her own little world, therefore the question caught her off guard.

"Wha-? Oh, U-u-um... Let's go to Ring Toss." She stammered and darted towards the game.

"Hey! Slow down, Rock~!"

"Hello and welcome to Ring Toss. Today's special prizes are Inkémon plushes!" A female Inkling told them. "It's a pleasure to meet four idols, do you mind if I can have your autograph?"

"Not at all." The Squid Sisters replied in sync.

"Nope." Off the Hook said.

"Ohmycod, thank you!"

"No problem."

Callie straightened her back, dramatically raised her hand and pointed at the plushes, "I'm gonna win Vulpix!"

"Blastoise, you're mine." Marie aimed at the sky blue tortoise.

"You do know you're playing RING TOSS, right?" 4 questioned with a massive frown. "This game is almost impossible. Just look at the small rings!"

"Yo, it's not that hard, B. You just need skills and you'll be fine." Pearl blurted out.

"Oh really?"

"Yeah!"

"Then show me."

"A'ight. Yo, let me show you how it's done." She said, picking up a bucket of rings.

Immediately, she threw the rings out, at the speed of light. When the bucket was empty, everyone looked at the progress she had made. Their view was just as identical as before (other than a billion rings surrounding the bottles). After everyone chuckled at the the scene in front of them, Pearl crossed her arms, pouted and angrily stormed off.

"Heh. You were saying~?" Marcus teased.

"Shut it."

"C'mon, Pearlie. Cheer up!" Marina comforted her with a smile. "Will you cheer up if I get you a Houndoom plush?"

The pink squid nodded furiously. Marina held a ring, with her index finger and, after several moments, threw it. On the Octoling's first attempt, she was successful, leaving the group astonished. She beamed even further and presented Pearl with an Inkémon plush.

"Wow! How'd you do that, Momina?" 8 questioned, stars clouding his orbs.

"Practise makes perfect." The teal Octopus answered with pride.

"So what are we doing now?"

"Oh! Let's go on a roller coaster!" Callie exclaimed merrily.

"Which one though?" 3 queried.

"Hmm...What about the Love Expedition?" 4 winked at Krystal and 8.

Without a second of hesitation, she clenched her fist and punched him in the stomach.

"Oof!"

"That's going to leave a mark..." Marie muttered.

"Anyways, any other suggestions?" She asked.

"What about The Drop? That looks fun!" 8 suggested.

"Sure." Marina spoke.

"Last one there has to buy us lunch!" The lime green squid yelled before dashing off.

"Hey, no fair!" Callie complained, lagging behind.

The last cephalopod to reach the ride was Marcus. He clutched his knees in exhaustion.

"Wow... You guys sure are fast." He huffed.

"We'll get lunch afterwards. Hope you don't mind paying." 3 grinned.

"You're so mean, Rock." 4 said before she glared daggers at him.

The group sat down and strapped themselves in. A gondola slowly lifted them up the drop tower.

"U-umm, I'm starting to have second thoughts about this." She uttered anxiously.

"Oh squit, I just realised how high up we are!" Callie shouted.

"I'm not scared. I'm not scared."  Krystal chanted over and over again in her head. How convenient. Krystal's number one fear was heights.

"...Are you scared, Rock~?" Marcus had read her like a book.

"Pfff. Me? Scared? N-nope!" She horribly lied.

"Yeah. Suuuure." He mumbled not believing a single thing she said.

"Yo, THE Agent 3 is scared of an amusement ride?" Pearl asked.

"I-I-I said I'm not!" 3 exclaimed.

"For eel?" Marie questioned flabbergasted.

"I SAID-"

"We're almost at the top." 8 reminded them.

"I want to see if Krystal will scream or not." Marina chimed into the conversation.

"Me too!" Callie agreed.

"Ugh."

The ride abruptly stopped, giving the group a few seconds to view the whole amusement park. The gondola slid down the drop tower, at full speed.

"Woah!" Krystal yelled.

"Weeeeeeeee!" Went 8, Callie and 4.

"Ack!" Off the Hook squeaked.

The drop didn't seem to faze Marie one bit. In fact, she smiled at the rare sight of Krystal laughing. When they reached the floor, Callie panted, "Wow... You weren't lying about not being scared!"

"See? Nothing scares good ol' Krystal." She informed them.

"Yeah, no joke. And did I hear you laughing?" Marcus questioned.

"You heard it too?" Marina asked.

"Yo, I thought I was hearing things!" Pearl spoke.

"You know Krystal... You should enjoy yourself more often!" 8 commented. "You have a beautiful laugh."

3 blushed and fiddled her thumbs.

"Oooooo, are you blushing, Rock~?" 4 teased.

"Shut up." She snapped.

"Oooh, feisty~!"

"What is wrong with you?!"

"I'm fine, thanks for asking." He responded.

"Guys-"

"What about you though? Maybe if you ask 8 he'll make you feel better~!" Marcus cut him off.

"You got a death wish or something!?" 3 shouted.

"Hey, listen-"

"Oh no! Krystal going to hurt me! I'm so terrified~!"

"Please can you just-"

"That's it. You won't live to see another day."

She was about to take action, but Marie restrained her. However, 3 easily broke out of her grip and, without thinking twice, charged at the yellow squid. The inkling bumped into something hard, stopping her in her fiery rage. She swiftly looked up to see a frowning agent.

"Please stop fighting! I don't want to see any of you get hurt, especially you, Krystal." 8 murmured the last part.

"..." She rewarded him with a hug.

"I ship it~"

"Close your mouth, Pearl. You're drooling." Marina demanded.

The two stood there for a while in silence.

"Sorry to ruin the moment, but after Krystal threw her little temper tantrum, the lunch period started." Marie explained.

"And Marcus will be paying for it!" Callie reminded them.

"Oh yeah, I totally forgot!" He replied, rubbing the back of his head.

"Don't worry, I'll pay for it." 3 said.

"Oh my cod, Krystal are you OK? Did you bang your head?" Pearl queried.

"I'm fine!"

"I thought I'd never see this day." 4 sniffed.

"You're acting as if I have a heart of stone..."

Chapter 6: Untameable Feelings

Chapter Text

The gang rushed off to the aroma of food, leaving Krystal and 8 behind.

"C'mon, let's go eat." He spoke before joining them.

She stood there, lost in thought, all alone.

Do I have a thing for 8? Cod, I really am loosing my stoic touch... So much for being the 'Cold Squid' or 'Tsundere Master'. Kids and their anime obsessions...

"Hey, Rock! You comin'?" Asked Marcus.

She grumbled and soon followed.

__________

The cephalopods sat down at their dining table, in the V.I.P section. The restaurant that they were dining at was ravishing with some fancy decor here and there.

"Hello. May I take your order?" A waiter questioned.

"Yes, can I order...the Boodle Noodles with...a vanilla frap and chocolate ice-cream, please?" Marina requested.

"I want a Triple Tower Burger with mayo, fries and a grape SquidShake." Said Pearl.

"Can I have a Cheesey Burger with a Double-scoop ice-cream and Ink-Up?" Callie asked.

Marie thought for a moment.

"May I have a slice of pepperoni pizza with red salmon onigiri and milk tea?"

"Can I take the Sushi Box and water, please?"

Everyone looked at her. Even the waiter took a swift glance.

"Are you sure you just want water?" The teal octopus queried. "Not even a dessert?"

"There's so much nice food to get here and you just order sushi and water?" Callie queried.

"Sushi's nasty." Pearl uttered.

"I'm trying to stay healthy." Krystal replied before staring at the pink inkling. "You won't if the only thing you're eating is mayonnaise."

"Mayo is love, mayo is life."

"Mayo is nasty."

"*le GAsP* What?!" Pearl was absolutely horrified. "Are you out of your mind-"

"I'd like a slice of BBQ Meat Feast Pizza with a medium fruit smoothie and a Strawberry Sundae." Marcus stopped her from going on a rampage.

"And can I have rice with mince, apple juice and a slice of Choc-A-Lot cake, please?" 8 asked.

"Yes, coming right up!" The waiter responded, after writing down their order, and then rushing off to complete their task.

"So, um...K-Krystal!" 8 attempted to stir up a conversation, resulting in startling the poor squid. "Is there any other reason you're only getting sushi and water?"

"Wha? Oh, u-umm, I don't really like sweet stuff...I guess."

Pearl eyed her up and down suspiciously.

"Then why were you eating Barbon Buiscuits before we left, hm?" She questioned.

"I don't really like sweet stuff...with some exceptions." 3 repeated.

After what felt like a minute, the group received their food.

"Here are your orders."

"Thank you." They all spoke in unison.

When they finished devouring their food, the Squidbeak exited the restaurant. They huddled up.

"Guys, it's around 1. What do we do now?" Marina asked.

Marcus had a stupidly wide, lopsided grin plastered on his face. Everyone turned to see what the inkling was up to.

"I have an idea." He announced with pride. "As good friends, we c-"

"OK, 8, do you have a suggestion?" Krystal cut him off.

"I'm still talking here!"

8 looked at her.

"We can go to the fortune teller. I wanna know what my future'll be like!" He hopped up and down.

Everyone agreed.

"Fortune teller it is!" Pearl yelled.

__________

Marie read the sign again, just to be certain.

"It's up to three at a time."

Callie tilted her head.

"Who should go first then?"

Marcus stepped forward, dragging 3 and 8 along with him.

"We can go first." He said.

Krystal glared at him before retracting her hand.

"Marcus, I swear to cod, if you're up to something..."

"Don't worry, Rock, your future will be perfectly fine. Maybe you'll hook up wi-"

She covered his mouth. 8 looked at them in confusion.

"Nothing to see here, ehaha." She released an anxious chuckle.

3 took away her hand, wiped it with tissue and threw it in the bin.

"Where'd you get that from?" 4 questioned.

"Marie gave me some just in case for emergencies."

Marcus furrowed his brows.

"And this is an emergency?"

"Let's go in." Krystal swiftly dodged his question.

They entered a fuchsia coloured tent.

"Welcome. I am the fortune teller, capable of seeing your future and with others."

"What's my future like?" Krystal queried.

"Ah, you are a hero. A hero that is destined for greatness. At the end of your path of radiance, you will find something that's life meaningful."

"I want to know my future with Krystal." Marcus said.

"Your future will be filled with laughter and happiness till death does you part."

"So I'm stuck with this guy for the rest of my life?"

"Yes."

"I want to know my future with Krystal, too!" 8 spoke.

"Umm, there's no need for that-"

"Oh! Too sensitive, can't say it."

Krystal let out a sigh of relief.

"Sensitive, hm? Wonder what that could mean..." 4 pondered.

"I hope it's not anything horrible." 3 uttered.

"Oh no. DEFINITELY not horrible." The fortune teller said.

The three quickly left to see the rest standing there.

"So? What did they say?!" Callie was beyond excited.

"I'll tell you on the train." She told her.

After they all got their fortunes told, they decided to play Darts, as Marcus was making a scene.

Sometime later...

In the winter, the sun dips away from sight, earlier than usual. It was around 4 or 5 when it became completely pitch black. Krystal and 8 admired the beautiful view, on the ferris wheel.

"The view is breathtaking." He sighed.

"It sure is." She responded with an uncommon smile.

8 tried not to, but he just couldn't; he couldn't hold back any longer! Looking at her with his longing orbs, he moved in, closing his eyes. His lips made their way slowly to hers. Krystal quickly realised what was about to unfold. She looked at him in disbelief. She thought she was just imagining things like in her fantasy dreams. Her crush was about to kiss her! He was now a few centimetres apart. 3 felt her brain stop working and her mind going blank. 8 took this as an opportunity to gently grab her face and-

"Oops!"

Marcus had 'accidentally' fell onto 8, resulting in him and 8 falling down and Krystal with a lime green mess on her face.

"Sorry about that, lost my footing."

He picked his friend up.

8 immediately turned to 3.

"I-I-I am s-so s-s-so so-"

"It's OK."

Now it was his turn to look at her in shock. Krystal gave him a thumbs up and a reassuring smile.

"If I were in your situation, I would've done the same." She shyly viewed her feet.

8 engulfed her with a hug.

"Thank you, Krystal. You're the best friend anyone could ask for."

She hugged back.

Marcus just stared at the scene in front of him with a wide grin.

"Mission accomplished." He muttered as fireworks blew up in the distance.

Chapter 7: ☆Christmas Special☆

Summary:

Krystal and 8 have some bonding time.

Chapter Text

Krystal and 8 watched the stars in the sky as time slowly went by.

"Wait, I can't believe you don't have a name yet." 3 raised her head.

"Hm?"

"8, we need a name for you."

"Oh! Well, you can tell me some names and I'll pick which one I like." He said.

Krystal seemed like she was in deep thought.

"What about Ike?"

"No thanks."

"...Pit?"

"A little basic."

"Tamaki?"

"..."

"OK! What about Amajiki?"

"....."

"Shulk?"

"No! Where are you even getting these names from?" 8 asked.

"Um...nowhere."

"What about Ozzie?" Marcus suggested.

They turned to look at him.

"I totally forgot that you were there."

"I like it!"

"Wait, wha-"

"OK then! Hello, Ozzie!" 4 greeted.

"Hi!"

3 stared at the two.

"We're getting off, guys."

The three amigos left the wheel to meet up with the rest of the Squidbeak.

"Hiya, Krystal, Marcus and Eig-"

Callie was briefly cut off by 4.

"Ozzie." He corrected.

The four smiled widely.

"So you gave him a name?" Marie asked.

"Yeah! Now we have a name to call him, in public, instead of a number." Marcus nodded furiously.

"We better get going. It's starting to get late." Marina said.

They ambled through the exit of the theme park and waited for a train. Not long after, the train arrived to take them back to Inkopolis. Krystal sat down next to Ozzie. She let the desire of sleep over take her and drifted into a deep slumber. Her head dropped onto 8's shoulder. Off the Hook, the Squid Sisters and Marcus all looked at the two with dumb grins plastered on their faces. Ozzie looked at them, uneasy.

"What is it?"

"Nothing." Pearl's smirk became wider.

"...OK..."

__________

They got off at their stop. 8 had to carry Krystal, on his back, since she was in an eternal sleep. When they made it to Callie and Marie's apartment, Ozzie brang her over to the guest room. He laid her on the bed and carefully covered her with the warmth of the blanket. He admired the sight before him. With a tender smile, he gave Krystal a peck on the forehead.

"Goodnight, Krystal."

The next day...

Marcus was the first to wake up. At first he was about to go back to sleep but then realised what day it was.

"It's Splatmas!!!" He yelled, waking up 8.

He groaned and sat up, "What? Splatmas?"

4 stared at him in disbelief, inching closer to him, each second.

"You don't know what Splatmas is?"

"U-um, no." Ozzie sweated. "...Could you please back up a little bit... You're awfully close."

Marcus finally came back to his senses.

"Oh, sorry about that." The squid rubbed the back of his neck and retracted his head. "I was just shocked. I mean, come on, the biggest celebration in history, even celebrated by humans; how can you not know about that?"

8 looked down at his lap.

"I lost my memories. I doubt we even celebrated it back in the octarian army anyway."

4 placed his hand on his shoulder.

"Well, you'll be celebrating it now."

It took them a while to realise that Krystal was looking at them through the door frame. I'm guessing that Marcus's yelling woke her up as she had a waspish expression on her face.

"What're you doing here, Rock?"

"Was it you who woke everyone up?" She questioned, avoiding his query.

"Yeah, sorry about that."

"Learn how to control that mouth of yours."

"Why are you so mean to me? Brighten up, it's Splatmas." He said.

"Wait, it is?" She spoke.

"Yes, it is. I almost forgot too."

"Yay."

"...Could you not be any happier?"

"Why should I be happy in front of you?"

"Ouch, Rock. I'm hurt, really."

"Why do you keep annoying me?"

"Haven't I told you before? It's so much fun to mess with you." 4 told her.

Krystal groaned in irritation. Before leaving, she took a quick glance at 8, who had been listening to the whole conversation. She mouthed a 'hi', accompanied by a wave and he did the same.

"Wow, no 'hi' for me?" He grumbled after knowing 3 was out of sight.

"I can hear you!" She shouted back at him.

Pearl and the others woke up as well. The pigmy squid walked down the corridor with her phone in hand and held up high. Krystal watched her prance around.

"Heyo, Merry Splatmas!" She said into the microphone of her SquidPhone 11 Pro Max. "Wow, 500k viewers, that's insane! It's literally 7:30 in the morning!"

Many people were asking questions of where she was.

That doesn't seem like a mansion.

Are you at someone's house?

Where are you at?

"I see a lot of my peeps asking where I'm at. Me and Reena are at Callie and Marie's apartment. We had a great time at Wahoo world yesterday. One of my good friends called Krystal almost kissed her crush! Well, that's at least what Marcus had told me."

3 glared at Pearl with a murderous glint in her eyes.

"Bahahahaha! You guys should see the look on her face right now." She cleared her throat. "Anyways, apparently, Marina announced that there was going to be a party at Pigmy Mansion, on her Inkstagram. Tickets sold out fast! We'll be having around 2000 people and some special guests, can't wait to see you there!"

Krystal was shocked.

What? 500k viewers? Party? 2000 PEOPLE? I NEVER AGREED TO ANY OF THIS.

"Bye, guys! Until next time... Don't get cooked, stay off the hook!"

She closed the live stream. Pearl sheepishly looked Krystal in the eyes.

"Sorry about, y'know, telling over 500,000 people that you almost kissed 8 and for not telling you about the Splatmas Party."

"Apology not accepted."

"Again, sorry."

__________

"Ugggghhh."

Her groans were muffled by the soft pillow she held on her face. Much to her disgust, she could smell a strong odour of wine. She was lying down in the bed of a guest room. Ebb & Flow played obnoxiously loud causing her to moan even further.

"When will this nightmare ever end...?"

Chapter 8: For Me?

Summary:

A little late for New Year's lol

Chapter Text

The party came to an end when the clock struck 11. Silence had finally rung in her ears.

Krystal was able to go downstairs without being hit on or pushed around. The first thing, or rather person she saw was Pearl lying on the ground with a worried Marina, who knelt beside her. Not interested in what had happened, Krystal walked into the kitchen to take an energy drink only to see the room trashed. Her mouth was agape as Marina walked up behind her with Pearl on her back.

"Sorry about this. Pearl drank a little too much champagne." She said.

"Hehe, *hic* what are you talking about, Reena, teehee?" The pigmy squid giggled and hiccuped into her back.

"I did warn her..."

Krystal shrugged her shoulders and opened the fridge, only to see it completely empty.

"Yeah, sorry about that too..."

"Uuuuuuugggggghhhhhhh." She then suddenly realised something. "Wait, where's Ozzie, Marcus, Callie and Marie? And the Cap'n too."

"I'm not completely sure, but I think 4 said something about picking up some items from a friend for New Year's. Callie and Marie also accompanied him after making their 2 hour guest appearance at the party. It's almost midnight though so they should be back any second. We'll be staying at Pigmy Mansion for a bit until New Year's."

"You didn't answer all of my question." She informed her.

"The Cap'n stayed behind when we went to Wahoo World so he's still at their apartment. He'll be celebrating New Year's with us." Marina responded.

"Are you going to throw another party?" She asked, this time in a harsher tone.

"...Um, no. It'll be just the eight of us."

"Thank cod."

The door was slammed open, revealing four cephalopods, struggling to carry bags.

"Hey~! Weeee're back!" Callie announced.

"Oh. Hello." Krystal greeted them.

"Hi!" Spoke Marina.

They all got right away with unpacking the items. When Krystal came upon a fancy looking bag, Marcus immediately snatched it away from her. Staring at him with a slightly confused expression, she carried on.

New Year's Eve

Laying upon a hill, next to a cherry tree, she looked into the distance.

Never had she ever thought she'd be able to make it to the next year with all these disasters happening lately. For the first time in ages, she was...overjoyed...

She smiled softly. Not a fake one, but a true beam from the heart. Even if it was a small smile, it felt unatural. There wasn't much of a reason for her to smile; there wasn't anything interesting that happened in her life anyway. It was just school, Squidbeak, school, holiday, with some Turf Wars here and there.

As her tiny fingers buried themselves into the emerald grass, Krystal averted her attention to her friends, eating below her and beside a lake. 3 wanted to join them but she felt as if she would just be disturbing them. The inkling continued to argue with herself over what to do. Before she could even make a decision, 8 walked up the hill. Facing her with a wholesome smile, he stirred up a small conversation.

"Hey, uh, Krystal. I've noticed you've been acting a little different lately. Is everything OK?"

She looked up at him with a sigh.

"I'm fine. It's just...I haven't been able to think straight recently, and I've hardly gotten any sleep because of it."

Ozzie tilted his head.

"What could you possibly be thinking about so much that you can't get enough sleep?" He asked.

"You."

"Me?"

"Yes, you. 8, I can't help but think about you. You're so caring and kind and positive and strong AND- I could go on forever! I really don't deserve a friend like you. I want us to hang out more but I get this weird feeling...could it be..? No, nevermind."

"I-I... I feel the same way about you too! Whenever I'm not around you, I can't stop thinking about you! I don't deserve any of this. It all seems like a dream; it's too good to be true."

The two blabbered on.

"We both deserve each other. Let's leave it that, deal?" She spoke.

"Deal."

They sat together with grins plastered on their faces. 8 stared into her orbs.
He handed her the fancy looking bag that Marcus had snatched away from her a few days ago.

"For me?"

"Yes, Krystal. I want you to have it."

"You really didn't need to waste your time on-"

"Don't say that. A present for a good friend isn't a waste."

Taking one last glance at him, she opened the bag and saw a glistening snow globe with two figures holding hands inside of it.

"Is that me and you?" 3 queried, squinting her violet eyes and taking a closer look.

He nodded.

"Turn the nob."

She obeyed and twisted it. A lullaby of the Calamari Inkantation played.

"I made it myself! I know it's not much, but I wanted to give you something. And it might help with sleepless ni-"

3 engulfed him in a bone-crushing hug, causing him to yelp in surprise.

"T-thank you."

He smiled and hugged back.

"No problem."

Meanwhile, the remaining members of the Squidbeak Splatoon were watching them in amusement.

"My OTP~" Callie and Pearl said in unison.

Marie and Marina nodded as Cap'n Cuttlefish looked over to 4. A smirk was carved into his face.

"Ozzie and Krystal beneath a cherry tree, H-U-G-G-I-N-G~!"

The group giggled at his song. Much to their astonishment, the two hadn't heard their laughter yet. Abruptly, Marie gasped, dropping her apple and phone onto the picnic sheets.

"One minute till New Year's!"

Everyone gasped.

Now they gained 3 and 8's attention. They darted down the hill to join the rest.

"OK, everyone! We're doing a Spanish tradition where we'll eat 12 grapes on the last 12 seconds of New Year's Eve." Explained Marina.

She handed them grapes.

16...
15...
14...
13...

They stuffed their mouths with the sweet fruits.

3...
2...
1...

"HWAPPY NYEW YWEAR!" They shouted with mouths full of grapes.

Everyone burst into laughter at seeing each other in their current states. Craig waited until finishing his grapes while Pearl whipped out her phone and took a picture.

Chapter 9: Valentine's♡

Summary:

It's time for Krystal to put her love for Ozzie to the test.

Chapter Text

Things resumed for the Squidbeak Splatoon. Marcus and Krystal continued their unamusing journeys through high school, Ozzie joining them too. Cap'n went on vacation to Inkopolis City for a couple of weeks whilst the Squid Sisters and Off the Hook enjoyed their free time. However, Krystal always had a sickening feeling in her stomach about a specific day of the year that came up sooner than expected.

Valentine's.

Krystal awoke from the daylight peeping through her curtains and her obnoxiously loud alarm clock. Turning the device off, she rubbed her eyes and went to get herself ready for the hours ahead of her, only to realise what day it was.

"Oh cod..." She muttered in distraught. "It's that dreadful day: Valentine's Day."

3 was anxious for a good reason. This was a time when girls and boys would fawn over each other. Blegh! Just pondering about it made her stomach churn in disgust. Krystal usually kept to herself and didn't really socialise, though, on this day, a few cephalopods would try their luck and ask the stoic squid out. Although, their answer always remained the same. The taste of sour rejection didn't stop them from trying again the following year.

After dressing up and eating breakfast, she left Callie and Marie's apartment to join 8. 4 stood next to him with an unfamiliar face.

"Hm? Oh, Krystal, hey!" Marcus said. "I'd like to introduce you to one of my good frien-"

"Hiya! My name's Amaria, it's nice to meet you!" An Octoling held out her hand for 3 to shake.

"Hey."

"You're Krystal, right?"

"Uh, yea-"

Amaria swung her arm around her neck and slightly pushed Krystal down, after turning away from 4.

"You like Ozzie, don't you?" She grinned.

"Wha- n-no, of course not..! H-how did you know that?" 3 whispered.

"Marcus told me, duh."

Krystal growled through gritted teeth.

"That little-"

"Is everything OK?" 8 questioned.

"Yeah, she's just angry at Marcus." She explained.

"C'mon, Rock. We'll be late for school." 4 spoke.

She kissed her teeth in irritation and followed the three cephalopods.

"What sort of nickname is Rock?" Amaria asked.

Marcus snorted.

"Rock didn't like the other name I gave her, so I gave better one. Lil' Jem was a good one though, little Kwystal Wystal was jwust bweing pwicky."

8 was struggling to hold 3 back. You could see the scorching flares of dedication in her orbs.

"C-c'mon, let's just go." He said.

Krystal finally stopped. She let out an audible 'tch' and walked on, with the others trailing behind.

-

3 stared into space during her English lesson. Could you guess what was on her mind? She was thinking about 8, of course! Simply the thought of him made her release a small smile.

"-words together that don't really make sense. Krystal, can you find a use of an oxymoron?" Miss Carpwell queried.

"Cold star." She stated.

"Very good. Liam, could you read the next verse?"

3 kept her sight on the clock.

"Three more minutes,

two,

one."

Ring! Ring! Ring!

"Next time, we'll be looking at a different poem, also from human times. Everyone is dismissed."

Krystal got up and ambled to the cafeteria, taking her food, which consisted of a tuna sandwich and a blueberry muffin - aka the best type of muffin -, and sitting down. Before she could even consume a crumb of her lunch, Ozzie sat down next to her.

"Hi, Krystal." He greeted.

"Hey, Ozzie."

"So, how's your day been?"

"Good." She responded.

The two gobbled down their foods.

"How's it going, Krystal?" A deep voice spoke.

They looked over to see a group of 3 males; one Octoling, an Inkling and a sea urchin.

"Mm, OK, I guess." She hummed in response.

"Apologies for his behaviour," The polite octo uttered. "we would appreciate it if you can allow us to speak with you on this fine valentine's afternoon. Or rather, he would like to tell you a few things. I've already tried my luck today."

He backed off, along with the sea urchin, leaving the three in their own silence.

"U-uh, so I've r-really wanted to t-tell you th-that I, um, I-"

"If you're going to confess your feelings, then I'm sorry to tell you that I..."

"Y-you..?"

"Um, I, uh, th-that I'm taken!" She yelled a bit too loud.

Everyone inside and out gasped aloud.

"KrSyTaL HAs a bOYfrIenD?!1?!1!?"

"Who is it? Who is it?!!"

"U-uh, I was just jo-"

Many cephalopods surrounded Krystal, desperate to receive an answer.

"Who is it?????"

"Or are you too chicken to tell us."

That was it. That was the only thing necessary to make her say it.

"Ozzie."

*gASp*

Krystal clung onto his arm and whispered into his ear,

"I'm sorry."

She dashed off to cod knows where.

"Holy carp! Krystal found a guy!"

8 sat down alone with himself as his own company. He was definitely flabbergasted, to say the least.

-

3 set herself down onto the couch with a lengthy sigh.

"How could I just lie to 8 like that? "

The squid surely had some explaining to do, but that's a story for another time.

Chapter 10: Anime

Chapter Text

"Finally. Some peace and quiet. Never thought I get to see this moment."

Krystal's eyes closed shut before reaching a short distance for the remote.

"Now to watch some My Squid Academia-"

"Did someone say My Squid Academia?"

Marcus ambled into the room with that dopey grin of his. Krystal immediately recognised him as a nuisance and groaned in exasperation.

Great. This weeb is back again. So long for some of that 'peace and quiet'

"Yes. I did."

4 tilted his head back.

"When were you an otaku?" He asked.

"My outlook on anime has changed." She stated.

"Well in that case, I'll sure you'll lemme watch some with ya, Rock."

She was going to accept his demand but began to think twice because of that irritating name he called her.

"Can I? Please, please, pl-"

Krystal refused to listen to any more, saying, "Could you bring some snacks? I'll make a decision afterwards."

"Yes, ma'am!"

Marcus ran off to fulfil her orders, a smile still attached to his face. An hour or so later, 4 returned with a plate of marshmallows and cookies, drizzled with salted caramel. He set the snacks on the table and left to go to the kitchen; the inkling came back with two glasses of Fanta Twist.

"Here you go!"

"Oh, thanks. I wasn't actually expecting you to do anything, nor did I expect you to secretly be a mini master chef."

Marcus crossed his arms and looked away with a frown.

"Everyone has a hidden talent."

"Anyway, come over." She papped the seat beside her.

"I can really watch MSA?" His eyes shone blindingly with stars.

"Mhm. You coming or what?"

"Of course, thanks, Rock-sama!"

"Ugh, don't even."

-

"OK. So..lemme get this straight. You like Krystal?" Amaria questioned.

Ozzie and Amaria were sitting by the window of Cafe Calimari.

"What? N-no, of course not!" 8 denied it, vigorously shaking his head from side to side.

"C'mon, it's plain obvious you like her."

"...OK...maybe just a little." He said. "B-but it's not like she likes me the same way I do. W-we're only friends!"

She pressed his hand that held a container of coffee. He focused on the night black pupils in her orbs.

"Seriously, kid, everyone knows that you two like, like-like each other." The Octoling smiled at him, withdrew her hands and brang them in fists under her chin. "Go get her!"

"B-but-"

"No buts!"

"Still, I don't think either of us are ready yet."

"How long are you gonna wait? She might find someone else soon." She stood up. "Look, I'm not trying to pressure you into doing anything. I'm only saying you have to make your move quickly, who knows what the shell might happen... Afterall, you've found yourself quite the catch."

Amaria waved and left the cafe, leaving him sitting alone in his own company.

"...Make a move..." He silently repeated to himself.

-

An Octoling stood in the silence of Octo Canyon.

Octavio queried, rubbing his eyes in fatigue, "Nrrgh, who could be out here at this time?"

"Ah, Greetings, My Grace. Have you recovered from your injuries inside that small snow globe you once slumbered in?"

"Oh. Howa, for the last time, we're friends. There's absolutely no need for the formalities."

"Apologies, si-"

"O-C-T-A-V-I-O."

"Sorry. O-octavio, sir." She apologied.

"Mhm. Anyways, why are you still up?"

"It won't be too long before the Inklings find out you have escaped. I'm planning to prepare for that particular time."

"Whatever works best for you." He grumbled and walked off.

-

"Hey guys I'm back!" Ozzie walked into the living room with that oh so innocent smile. "Hu-"

He immediately silenced himself when seeing Krystal asleep on the sofa with Marcus. Attack on Salmonoid was still playing loudly and empty trays were scattered on the floor. 8 eternally sighed and cleared up the mess, carrying Krystal back to her room, bridal style.

"Ack!"

3 woke up to see 8 carrying her with a slightly creepy smile and screamed using the little energy she had left.

"O-oh, sorry Ozzie." She rubbed the back of her head.

"I-i-it's not a problem!" He was a bit nervous to be close to her after what Amaria had told him.

"...I'll just go to bed." She spoke to him awkwardly, not before walking around him and telling him goodnight.

"G...Goodnight..."

The door slam shut leaving 8 in the emptiness of the corridor. He regained his senses and left the scene. On his journey back to his room, he noticed Marcus passing by.

"Hey, did Krystal go to bed?" He poked at the corner of his eyes and rubbed his slimy tentacles.

"...Uh, yeah."

"Anyways, Marie texted me a list of food I need to buy from Squidsburys." He told the pink Octoling.

"H-have a safe trip."

...

"*Sniff* Th-thank you." He sobbed.

"W-w-why are you crying?" 8 asked, worried.

"I-i-it's just that y-your...your so pure."

"Huh? What do you mean?"

"I'll be leaving now, bye."

"Wait! You didn't tell me-"

Ozzie was silenced by the slam of the door yet again. Humming sadly to himself, 8 went to his room and face planted onto the sheets.

"Mmmm. What do I do...?" His voice came out muffled. "Maybe I should look at squidiHow..."

Chapter 11: The Octarian's Uprising

Chapter Text

" Lynn , where are you taking me?"

"Less talking, more walking, we don't have much time left, for cod's sake!"

" B-but can't you just- "

"We're here!"

Before the two octolings was a flower field, which laid some distance away from the calming ocean waves. With this celestial sight, Lynn 's closest friend could not resist but secure his gaze, mouth agape and orbs wide.

" Hehe , do you like the view? I picked this location out just for you!"

" D-do I like it? O-of course, it's breathtaking!"

She smiled at him, "I'm glad to hear that." Lynn reverted her attention back to the sunset.

Both octolings sat atop the hill, towering above the flower bed beyond. They traded a brief glance whilst displaying small beams of bliss. Suddenly, a flash of a recognisable neon green inkling appeared in her place.

" Wh-wha ?"

"Ozzie. Ozzie? Ozzie!!"

"Huh?!"

8 awoke to find himself sitting at a blank computer screen. On his left stood Krystal with her typical morning face, except it seemed she was somewhat genuinely concerned.

"You had me worried there for a sec. It's not like you to be asleep at 12." She sighed.

He rubbed the back of his head and chuckled softly, "Sorry, guess I overslept, ehaha."

She eyed him suspiciously.

"What exactly were you doing last night for you to wake up at this time?"

He thought carefully about his reply.

"Just...doing some research."

"For what? A test or something?" She tilted her head in confusion.

Ozzie shook his head from side to side and smiled softly, "I just wanted to know about something, that's all."

Krystal let out a semi grin, saying, "Is that all? OK, well in that case, I was wondering if you'd be free this Wednesday. So, um, are you?"

"Yeah." He smiled.

"Oh, good. I'll let it be a surprise. Anyways, cya." She left the room as quick as she first entered.

Krystal was feeling surprisingly confident. As for 8...he was a tad bit nervous. I mean, why would the stoic Agent 3 ask him if were free this Wednesday? Maybe she... No, it can't be.

_____

Krystal sunk herself down into the comfy sofa, sipping the apple juice Marcus had only bought yesterday. She scrolled through social media until she came across something that made her cough on the sweet liquid.

(58s ago)
'BREAKING NEWS: Inkopolis Tundra and City are infested with Octarian soldiers who are terrorising civilians and are said to be coming to other places such as the Plaza and Square. Please remain calm and stay inside, away from danger and wait until further notice.' Blah blah blah.

Well, so much for going out on Wednesday.

"...No." She muttered. "I should've seen this coming. We weren't there to keep watch on Octavio. No, no no."

Eight walked in with Four. All three of them saying at the same time, "Did you see what was on the news?"

"So you did." Ozzie frowned. "I had a feeling something bad was going to happen soon."

They settled down a bit, first deciding they should take a seat down at the table and brainstorm ideas of what they could possibly do.

"Cap'n thankfully is away so we don't have to worry about him getting hurt." 8 said, relieved. "The Squid Sisters and Off the Hook are at Pearl's. Maybe we should investigate in the city and go down to the Canyon."

Marcus raised his brow.

"Isn't this risky? They said it's infested with Octarian soldiers, going out there would be a suicide mission!"

3 nodded and stared at 8 for his response. "As long as they're distracted, we can investigate the area for information."

"Pfft, like shell I'm doing-"

"-that."

The three hid in an alleyway of Inkopolis City. The city was trashed and scattered with flickers of flames all round. There were Octarian soldiers of all kinds guarding the place.

"A-are you sure we shouldn't turn back now?" 4 shook.

"Stop acting like a scaredy squid and act like the agent you are." Krystal spat, in hopes of shutting him up. (Dayuuum 3.)

The agents were already able to easily sneak past a decent amount of Octarian soldiers, and made their merry way to a small fort slam in the middle of Inkopolis City.

"..Why is there a fort in the city?" Ozzie whispered his trusty comrades.

Krystal shrugged, not really bothered about a pile of bricks.

"Maybe they're protecting a power source or something." Marcus spoke.

"Whelp, there's only one way to find out. Let's go then." Eight stated.

"Wait!" 3 said in a hushed voice, stopping her friends from proceeding any further. "There's way too many soldiers protecting whatevers in there."

4 reached for his nape with his right palm.

"Y-yeah, maybe we should keep guard while Krystal sneaks in!"

"Yeah, great idea, 4!"

The two swung their arms to turn around and leave when 3 (unsurprisingly) grabbed both of them.

"I've got a better idea." She devishly grinned.

"Umm...I-I don't like the face you're making." Ozzie nervously stammered.

"Oh, there's nothing to worry about. Eight, you'll be disguised as a soldier and distract the Octarians for a little while. Me and 4 will sneak in and get a peek of what's inside."

"Okie!"

"Sure thing!"

-------------

"Holy squit! Look what's on the news!" Marie shouted to her fellow idols.

"Huh? What the shell are you talking abou-"

"LOOK!! Octavio has escaped!" Callie looked into her phone.

Marina cupped her mouth while the Squid Sisters seemed as if they were on the verge of fainting.

"DJ What'sHisFace escaped from the snow globe again?" The rapper queried the three.

"Yeah, and apparently this time he's not messing around. They're planning on world domination or something." The grey haired inkling swiftly sent back a response.

"Well, what're we lounging around for? I've been waiting to kick some Octarian butt!"

Marina looked up from her computer, saying to Pearl, "We need to get a hold of the others before we do anything. This matter's super duper wuper serious, right? We need as much help as we can get."

"Rina's right. We need the other agents' help for this!"

The four nodded simultaneously at each other.

I'm so sorry this took so long, my schedule is messed up along with my co-writer's as well so updates may tend to be a bit slow >~<

Chapter 12: Is this our final Goodbye?

Chapter Text

Eight sent Three and Four the signal to move and they swiftly did so. To their greatest surprise, the agents spotted some sort of weapon, some bizarre fusion between a rainmaker and an inkzooka. It also had...two n-zaps attached to it on the side?

Whatever it was, it seemed as if it was an untested prototype as it looks well kept, whilst behind those clear glass walls.

Krystal and Marcus quickly dashed to the closest hiding spot after hearing a faint voice, followed by the clicking of heels. The voice belonged to a general octoling, might I also add, they were being followed by the King himself: DJ Octavio.

Just their luck.

Three and Four began to regret ever stepping foot in the city as trouble seems to be lurking around every damn corner. As the two hid behind a plant pot, Octavio and the general took a turn towards the guarded weapon, giving the squids time to swiftly make a tactical retreat.

"Hey, 4. We're going back out. Give 8 the signal." Krystal quietly spoke.

"Yes, Ma'am!" Marcus exclaimed a little too loudly, gaining the attention of some soldiers nearby playing Inkopoly.

3 mentally face-palmed as 4 almost instantly realised his mistake.

"Intruders!" They shouted.

"Oh squit, MARCUS RUN!" 3 dashed.

8 noticed his companions running away from a large mob of octarian soldiers, thinking of what they possibly did this time. However, Ozzie wasn't going to sit back and enjoy the show, no, he knows better than that. He tackled as many of the soldiers as he could, leaving the unscathed, baffled and still. The rest turned and flung themselves onto him, the stack of octarians growing to a tremendous height.

His friends looked at him in horror.

He simply smiled through the small gap between the pile of bodies and mouthed, 'Get out of here'.

With bubbly tears peeking from the corners of their eyes, the two agents continued running for dear life, hearing a pained scream behind them from 8 shortly afterwards.

Squeezing her eyes closed and shaking her head from side to side, Krystal began to believe that this was their final goodbye.
______

The two huffed and puffed heavily on the front door of Callie and Marie's apartment, slowly sliding down it. Krystal burst into tears, causing Marcus to look over in her direction.

The amazing, stoic Agent 3 was actually crying?

"I-I-It's all my fault! I shouldn't have forced 8 to be our distraction! We were meant to do this togeth-"

4 had placed his hand on 3's shoulder.

"It's not your fault. I was the one who gave us away, remember? And plus, you didn't force 8 to do anything," He hugged her head gently. "he made a sacrifice for our sake."

Krystal looked up at him and wiped off the tears.

"Yeah, you're right." She sniffled.

He grinned.

"Of course I am."

"...Dweeb."

Back at the fort...

"Hm, an agent." The female general said.

She peered at an unconscious 8, tracing her fingers over his tentacles.

"... You'll do just fine."

-------
The next day, in the Squid Sister's apartment

"So that's why you two were hugging." Marie stated, sitting on the arm of the couch, her leg crossed over the other.

"Yeah..." The two responded in unison.

There was a lengthy, uncomfortable silence.

"I-is Ozzie really gone?" Callie frowned.

"Well," Marcus started. "we're not completely sure if he's gone or held captive."

"Then there's only one way to find out." Pearl jumped up from the sofa.

"You don't mean-" Marina started.

"We're going to infiltrate that fort!"

Everyone looked in her direction. Krystal saying, "I don't know if that's a good idea-"

The pigmy squid, cut her off abruptly, "C'mon, we need to see if 8 is still hanging on! And we need to put an end to this chaos!"

Everyone agreed.

Wasting no time, the New Squidbeak Splatoon began preparing their next move.
