Work Text:
For many people, Sundays are for churches. For the members, Sundays are rest days. For Taehyung and Jeongguk, Sundays are synonymous with arcades and ice cream. There’s downpour since this morning and it’s nonstop. Namjoon forbids them from going to the arcade — they cannot risk catching the flu, especially not Jeongguk — for Mondays are meant for intense vocal trainings. Ahh, they can’t waste Tuesdays for that. Tuesdays are for ideas-pitching.
“I’m sorry, Taehyung-ah. It’s what manager said,” says Namjoon, eyes remain stuck on — Taehyung bobs his head a bit to read the title on the cover — Ecce Homo, it says in Hangul. “You and Jeonggukkie do something else.”
“Like what?” Jeongguk asks, wonders how his leader will answer him because there’s basically not enough space for Taehyung-and-Jeongguk’s Sunday fun day.
“Watch anime, play games,” answers Namjoon and turns a page, Jeongguk gives Taehyung a look and Taehyung’s eyes roam across the dormitory and sees impossibility regarding Namjoon’s suggestion.
“Hyung, everyone’s here, it’s so cramped,” Taehyung whines, but Namjoon rolls over to his other side, facing the wall instead. He flips another page.
“Yah you two can have your date next week, just do something else,” says Hoseok, who was sitting on the floor in a basketball jersey, scrolling through his phone.
“It’s not a date, hyung,” corrects Taehyung, raises a lecturing finger. “There’s going to be a new cabinet there and—“
“I never get invited in to these Sunday dates,” Jimin smirks from a corner. He’s reading a manga. “We can watch a series, Taehyungie, Jeonggukie.”
Taehyung receives another look from Jeongguk. Taehyung pulls Jeongguk along with him to the kitchen area (really, it’s just a meter apart from everyone else). They hear their hyungs warn them to not set a foot outside.
“What do you think? Watching anime with Jiminie?” asks Taehyung as his eyes wander off to where Yoongi and Seokjin are. Both are also reading books — in paperback, Taehyung notes. Taehyung feels a growing interest now in literature that isn’t the form of comics or manga — but anyway —
“I guess it’s okay,” Jeongguk scratches his nape and cheek, and Taehyung takes note of that, too. “But won’t we disturb the others with the volume? We can’t share earphones if there’s three of us.”
Taehyung hums, and the two of them stand there for a while. Jeongguk gets lost on a pondering Taehyung, wonders what he’ll come up with, and how he’ll save their Sunday fun day. Yes, he can rely on Taehyung to improvise. Else he'll just sleep for all of Sunday.
“A-ha!”
Jeongguk snaps back from trance to reality with the fluttering of his eyelashes, his front teeth showing upon the sound of Taehyung’s eureka moment.
“Ya, I warned you two if you—“ Hoseok yells across the room before Taehyung can even share his idea.
“We’re not, we’re not!” Taehyung replies just as equally loud, and Namjoon and Yoongi readjusts from their positions, grunts from all the noise. The heavy rain does not help.
Jeongguk can’t wait any longer so he snaps. “Ya Kim Taehyung, what is it??”
Taehyung pretends to be offended upon hearing his full name. “Ya that’s hyung to you!”
“Just tell me what we’ll do!”
Taehyung grins proudly for himself, relishes the excitement on Jeongguk’s face. Likes that Jeongguk looks like a bunny, teeth and eyes. Disney eyes.
“Tae!”
Taehyung giggles at Jeongguk’s impatience, grin widens. Taehyung doesn’t answer Jeongguk and instead walks around the whole dormitory, opening cabinets and all, and Jeongguk tails him wherever he went, cries Tae, Taehyung-ah, Taehyungie interchangeably every two seconds. Seokjinnie-hyung notices the lack of formality so he reminds Jeongguk, but both young members ignore him as Taehyung continues to pick up unused pillows and blankets, and he ends up giggling more fervently because it’s so cute when Jeongguk begs.
“Taehyung-ssi!” Jeongguk must be really curious now and Taehyung stops giggling and gives him a non-serious glare. The older boy takes a few steps to the most-right corner of the room.
“Jeongguk-ah, hold this up.”
It does not stop Jeongguk’s prying for further information, but he holds up both ends of the blanket as Taehyung ties the left end of the blanket on a closet’s frame, tying the other end on the curtain handle. Jeongguk stops as he soon realizes what Taehyung is doing when he starts to pile the pillows like those sand sacks in war films.
”Oh I see,” he exclaims amazed, not noticing Hoseok and Jimin hovering over him as they watch.
“Yaaaaahh Taehyung-ah!” Hoseok is just as amazed and excited as Jeongguk and praised Taehyung’s creativity.
The blanket’s right corner disentangles itself from the closet, so Taehyung, with excited and careless limbs, tries again because he just wants to finish this blanket fort as-soon-as-possible.
“Careful,” warns Jeongguk holds him securely so his feet won’t slip from the window sill.
When Taehyung finishes and climbs down, he is greeted by three crowding the blanket fort he made.
“Okay, I’d actually like to take a nap in there,” says Yoongi, and Taehyung thinks is proud to have made Yoongi-hyung stand up from his bed. Of course Yoongi likes it, and he’s having an idea for next weekend.
Taehyung grins.
“Sorry, hyungnims, it’s just me and Jeonggukie and Jiminie,” Jimin is happy and ecstatic to be invited inside the fort so he looks for the tablet in haste. When he does, he and Jeongguk both excitedly enter the fort and burst into giggles, calls Taehyung to come in.
Hoseok licks his lips, jealous because he also wants to be included in their anime binge, but mostly because he’s never gone in a blanket fort before. Let alone see one up-close. “Okay, okay, you three have fun,”
“I can build it again next time, hyung!”
Hoseok smiles and waves at them, goes back to his spot. Yoongi-hyung already has as well.
Taehyung enters the fort and is about to close the small haven, but he peers first and checks out the room and sees everyone on their own leisure time. “We’ll be here if you guys need us! Annyeong!”
Taehyung shuts the fort and it’s dark peach inside. He crawls next to Jimin.
Three of them focus on the screen, watching Jimin’s index finger scroll up and down looking for the newest episode of One Piece. Jeongguk and Taehung catch each other’s gaze, and they start talking with their eyes.
So, what do you think, Guk-ah? Taehyung grins.
Jeongguk smirks. You’re so cool, Tae.
Taehyung extends a finger to flick his chin and Jeongguk whines, attempts for revenge. Jimin tries not to smile and bites his lower lip for the entire afternoon.
