Chapter Text

Midoriya’s alarm dragged him out of his slumber. He rolled over and slapped it off, then sat up with a yawn. He grabbed his phone off the bedside table to check the time, and found a sticky-note stuck to the screen.

Today! Don’t forget!

He blinked in confusion, then his eye lit up. He checked the date just to be sure. Yes! August 22nd. He beamed and hopped out of bed to get dressed.

It was Iida’s birthday today. Midoriya and Uraraka had plans to pull the whole class together for a party. Satou had already said he’d make a cake, and Ojiro had volunteered to run to the store to get some decorations and a jug of fresh orange juice.

Uraraka caught him in the hallway and greeted him with an excited grin. Midoriya answered with a shaky one of his own.

“I got some mochi!” She whispered. She glanced around, then dropped her voice and leaned in. “For the party!” Midoriya nodded vigorously.

“Great! And you know Iida’s probably at class already.”

“Oh, yeah.” Uraraka laughed and grabbed his wrist. “C’mon! Let’s go wish him happy birthday!”

They raced each other to the main school building, continuing on at a walk once they were inside. “Hey,” Uraraka started, “If I use my quirk, we don’t have to buy helium!”

“Yeah!” Midoriya nodded in agreement. “Shouji said he could help Ojiro get the party things. We should be able to set up pretty quickly…” His voice died down as they approached their classroom. Midoriya grinned and slid the door open.

“Iida!” He called out as he stepped inside. “Happy Bir...Iida?” He stared at Iida’s empty seat, then glanced around. Iida wasn’t at any of the other seats, nor was he at the front of the room, where he often made announcements.

“H…Hey Tokoyami,” Midoriya called out as he headed to his own seat. “Do you know where Iida is?”

“He wasn’t here when I came in,” Tokoyami reported, “His bag’s not here either.”

Midoriya and Uraraka exchanged a worried look, then Uraraka forced an assuring smile. Midoriya did his best to return it. Iida was probably just out running an errand for a teacher, or in the bathroom, or, or-

Midoriya twiddled his thumbs together. Iida was fine. Midoriya had just been studying with him last night.

But, he was always the first one here. Always no less than 10 minutes early.

The bell rang. Midoriya jerked up straight as Aizawa shuffled in.

“Alright...” Aizawa made his way to his desk. “Everyone settle down. Class is starting. First-”

“Wait!” Midoriya stood up. “Where’s Iida??” Aizawa raised his head to shoot him a sharp glare. Midoriya squeaked and quickly sat back down again. “S-Sorry. I just...um...”

“Iida’s sick today.” Aizawa looked down at his papers. “He caught something and emailed me to let me know he’ll be absent today. If you’re so worried, you can be the one to bring him his homework.”

“O-Oh...” Midoriya exhaled heavily and his whole body deflated in relief. A cold, then. Just a cold.

“A cold?” Sero glanced over at Tokoyami. “Geez, I didn’t know someone like him can even get sick.”

“Aw man...” Uraraka slumped forward and stretched her arms out toward the empty seat in front of her. “On his birthday, too?”

“Quiet down,” Aizawa grunted, “Class is starting.”

Midoriya bit his lip and looked down at his desk. He’d check on Iida as soon as class was over.

They couldn’t have a party if Iida was sick. Unless he was feeling better in the evening. If it was just a light cold, maybe…?

He’d check on him after class.

000

“Um, Iida?” Midoriya knocked his fist against Iida’s door, a load of papers under his arm. “It’s Uraraka and Midoriya!” There was no answer. He raised his voice a little. “We brought you your homework! How are you feeling??” He heard something: a faint shuffle, then a soft voice through the door.

“Midoriya...?” It was weak and hoarse, nothing like Iida’s usual booming tone. Midoriya’s eyes widened in concern and he tried the door. Finding it unlocked, he pulled it open.

“Iida are you alright? You sound horrible!”

“Ah, Midoriya wait, you could get infected-”

Midoriya flipped the lights on. He didn’t see Iida, but there was a large lump under the covers, nearby which rested a wastebasket filled with tissues.

“Oh gee, Iida...” Uraraka crept in, looking around. “It’s a bad one, huh?”

“Both of you!” A hand slipped out of the covers to flail at them in Iida’s characteristic chopping motion. “Please stay back. You could-” He broke off into a hacking cough. Midoriya yelped and jumped back.

“Iida are you alright??” Midoriya dropped the papers on the desk and came over to him. “Should I call the hospital?”

“No, no it’s fine.” The blankets shifted, then Iida sat up. He peered at Midoriya and Uraraka through bleary eyes. His hair, usually neat, stuck out in strange directions and he looked rather pale. He sniffled, then covered his mouth with his sleeve.

“Really,” He croaked, “You shouldn’t be in here. You could get sick.” His voice was thin and breathy. He winced and rubbed his throat, then offered a weak smile. “Thank you for dropping off the homework. I’ll be fine with a little rest. You two should leave before you catch something.”

Uraraka looked at Midoriya. Midoriya returned the gaze and nodded.

“Hang in there, Iida!” Uraraka said as they hurried toward the door. “We’ll be right back!” Iida smiled and nodded.

“Yes, I’ll see you two…” His smile faded. “Wait, what-” The door slammed shut, leaving Iida staring at it in befuddled confusion.

They returned about ten minutes later, both wearing cold masks. “Ah,” Iida answered faintly, “I’m glad you decided to take such a precaution but why have you-” He cut off into a weak cough, then swallowed, “-returned?”

“To take care of you, of course!” Uraraka strode over to the window and pulled it open, letting the fresh air in.

“That’s not necessary!” Iida protested. “I will recover with some rest. You two should be staying away and focusing on your studies!”

“Don’t worry about it, Iida,” Midoriya pressed his hand to Iida’s forehead, frowning at the temperature, “We were planning on hanging out with you for your birthday anyways.” Iida gave him a blank look, then jerked up straight.

“Goodness! I forgo-” He fell into another hacking fit. Midoriya yelped and hopped back.

“Iida, try to avoid uh, getting too excited, at least for today?”

“I’m sorry,” Iida muttered, “You had plans for today, but I ruined them by falling ill.”

“That’s hardly your fault,” Midoriya answered with a chuckle, “Have you had anything to eat today? Or drink?”

“Ah...” Iida dropped his head. “No, I didn’t feel up to going down to the cafeteria, and I also didn’t want to infect-”

“That’s not good!” Midoriya yelped, “You need to eat to get your strength back!”

“I am aware but-”

“Uraraka, you stay with him!” Midoriya headed for the door again. “I’ll get some food!”

“Right!” Uraraka nodded. “Get some medicine too!”

“Got it!”

The door clicked closed behind him. Iida sighed.

“Really, you two. I wouldn’t forgive myself if you caught what I have.”

“Hush!” Uraraka came over to smack him on the shoulder. “Don’t worry about that! Oh hey!” She raised both hands, wiggling her fingers. “I know some pressure points to help with colds. Let’s see...”

“Ah, Uraraka...” Iida leaned back at Uraraka began to poke and prod at his face. “You really should not be touching my face. The germs would transfer to your hands and-” He broke off, then spun away from her to sneeze into his sleeve.

“Goodness,” He muttered, “I’m sorry, Uraraka, could you get another box of tissues out from my closet?”

“Sure!” She ran over to the closet and pulled it open. “Uh, where?”

“Up on top, I believe.”

“Oh gee.” Uraraka pressed her fingers to her palms. Her feet floated off the ground. “Ok, one second.”

There was a knock on the door just as she was digging out a box of tissues. She yelped and somersaulted backwards, then released herself to land on the ground.

“Midoriya’s back already?” She set the tissues down by Iida and came over to open the door. Instead of Midoriya, she found Yaoyorozu and Todoroki.

“Hey,” Todoroki raised one hand in greeting, “How’s Iida?”

“Terrible!” Uraraka answered back without missing a beat.

“I’m fine,” Iida called out weakly, “Is everything ok?”

“I came by to let you know I took care of all the class duties,” Yaoyorozu informed him. Iida gave a grateful smile and nodded.

“Thank you very much, Yaoyorozu. Sorry to have the work so suddenly fall on your shoulders.”

“Also,” She held up a tin, “I brought some tea that’s good for colds.”

“I brought an extra blanket.” Todoroki held up a fluffy blanket. “In case you’ve got chills.”

“Both of you...” Iida sniffed, “It’s very kind of you to think of me. Thank you.”

“Oh shoot,” Yaoyorozu covered her mouth, “I forgot to bring a hot water boiler. One second, I’ll make one-”

“You’re shivering, Iida.” Todoroki came over with the blanket. “Here.” He tossed the blanket around Iida’s shoulders, then reached over to press his left palm to Iida’s neck.

“Ah...” Iida’s eyes fluttered shut and he sighed. “Thank you, Todoroki. B-But also you shouldn’t be touching me while I’m contaminated like this.”

“Oh!” Yaoyorozu looked up from where she was plugging in a water heater. “I’ll make some gloves and masks then!”

000

When Midoriya returned with a tray of beef stew and a glass of orange juice, he found Iida had fallen asleep. Todoroki was sitting beside him, left hand on his neck.

“Hey Midoriya!” Uraraka waved at him, wearing a pair of pink gloves. “Yaoyorozu stopped by and made a ton of masks and gloves!”

“Oh cool!” Midoriya came over to the bed. “Hey Todoroki. Don’t overheat him, ok?”

“Got it.” Todoroki took his hand off to shake Iida’s shoulder. “Iida, Midoriya’s back.”

“Nm?” Iida cracked an eye open. “Ah, hello Midoriya.”

“Here, Iida.” Midoriya set the tray down. “You need to get some nutrients in you! Have you taken any medicine today?”

“This morning, yes...” Iida stirred at the beef stew, then took a reluctant bite.

“You should have another dose then.” Todoroki commented, “It’s almost four.”

“These should help with the fever,” Midoriya tapped some tablets into his hand. “Not with the cough, though...”

“That’s quite all right,” Iida accepted the tablets, “This cough is troublesome, but I can bear it.” He tossed the tablets in his mouth and took a gulp of juice, then nearly choked as someone banged hard against his door.

“Hey! Hey Iida!” Kirishima hollered through the door. Midoriya hurried over to open it. Kirishima blinked in surprise, then flashed him a wide grin.

“Oh, hey Midoriya!” Kirishima sidled past him. “Iida! I heard you were sick so I stopped by to give you this!“ He offered up a package of wrapped raw meat. “I splurged on some high-quality stuff! Chow down on this and you’ll be in top shape in no time!”

“Er, that’s very thoughtful of you, Kirishima.” Iida scratched his cheek. “And I’m touched, but consuming raw or undercooked meat can increase the risk of-”

“I’ll handle it.” Todoroki held his hand out. “Give it to me for a second.”

“Oh yeah!” Kirishima pulled a folded piece of paper out of his back pocket. “This is from Bakugo.” He handed the meat off to Todoroki and tossed Iida the paper. Iida’s eyebrows drew together as he unfolded it.

“Die,” He read out loud, then squinted and held it closer. “No wait, it says ‘don’t die.’ My apologies. I don’t have my glasses on.”

“That was...” Midoriya started uncertainly, “Nice of him?”

“I must write him a thank you note!” Iida began to get up but Uraraka quickly pushed him back down.

“You can do it later when you’re well!”

“But-”

“Later! Eat your stew! And drink the tea Yaoyorozu made!”

“Hey!” Another knock at the door, accompanied by Sero’s voice. “Iida! You here?”

“Hang on!” Midoriya ran over to open the door to reveal Sero, Ojiro, and Aoyama.

“We brought some stuff for Iida,” Ojiro explained, “To help with the cold.”

“Oranges!” Sero grinned and raised one in his hand, while the other held an armload more. “Gotta get that vitamin C in ya!”

“I got some fruit!” Ojiro held up a bowl of dried fruits. “It should help you recover!”

“I brought my twinkling self!” Aoyama winked and draped one hand over his forehead. His other hand held up a platter. “And some cheese!”

“All of you...” Iida dropped his head, shoulders hunched. “I’m so touched! That you would go through the trouble to- to-” He sniffed, then fell into a coughing fit. Midoriya sighed and patted him on the shoulder.

“Calm down, Iida. It’s not good for your cough.”

“E-Everyone make sure you wear a mask, please.”

“Hey.” Todoroki reached out toward Aoyama. “Aoyama, can I have that?”

“Certainly!” Aoyama skipped over and handed him the platter. “A man of taste like you, Todoroki, could not resist the pull of this-” Todoroki dumped the cheese off onto the desk, making Aoyama shriek in indignation.

“I’m using this,” Todoroki balanced the platter on his left thigh, “To cook the meat.”

“That is the finest Gruyère!”

“Hey hey!” Kirishima, now wearing a mask Uraraka had handed him, hardened one of his hands and made a chopping motion. “I’ll cut the meat! We can grill some of the oranges too.”

“I’ll heat some more water for tea!” Uraraka grabbed the water heater and ran out the door.

“Here, Monsieur!” Aoyama perched up on the bed, holding a bit of cheese in his fingers. “This will revive your spirit! Open wide!”

“Ah, Aoyama-” Iida raised one hand while at the same time dodging away from Aoyama’s pestering fingers. “I don’t think it is necessary tha-glrph!”

“Bon Appetit!”

“Ffff...” Iida squeezed his eyes shut, then swallowed. “Thank you, Aoyama.” Aoyama beamed while Iida turned and quickly gulped down the rest of his tea.

“H-Here, Iida.” Sero hastily peeled an orange and offered him the slices. Todoroki started cooking up the meat. They gathered around, chattering about the day and making sure Iida got enough to eat. Iida didn’t talk much on account of his throat, but he smiled and nodded and drank his tea.

After a while Kirishima, Sero, Ojiro, and Aoyama filtered out. For a little while it was just the four of them, Iida dozing while Uraraka, Midoriya, and Todoroki did their school work together.

It wasn’t too long, though, before another commotion approached from down the hall.

“Hello?” Asui poked her head in, “Oh, hey guys.” Ashido popped up above her, flashing a peace sign.

“Hey hey! How’s Iida feeling?”

“I am feeling much better, Ashido.” Iida nodded to them. “Thank you for your concern.”

“I brought some herbs for you, Iida.” Asui held up a bag. “If you stew them in tea, they’ll help with your throat.”

“I got you some tissues!” Ashido cheered and hoisted box up over her head. “Looks like you’re going through them pretty fast!” Iida flushed and nodded in agreement. She tossed the box over, nearly smacking him in the head.

“Heeeey!” Another voice called out from down the hall. “Hey! Are you guys visiting too??” Asui and Ashido moved aside to make way for Hagakure and Satou.

“Hey,” Satou held up a cake, secure in a plastic container, “Sorry you got sick on your birthday, but I brought you a cake anyways. You can eat it when you can taste again!”

“I brought a stuffed animal!” Hagakure waved a large stuffed elephant around for him to see. “To cuddle as you sleep!”

“Ah- Oh-” Iida jerked his hands up as she shoved the doll into his face. “Thank you, Hagakure. I will take good care of it. And, thank you Satou. That was truly kind of you.”

“I’ll just leave it here,” Satou set the cake down on the desk, “Get better soon, alright?”

“Yes!” Iida nodded quickly, “I hope to recover soon! Thank you!”

No sooner had they all left that three more came to visit. Kaminari, Jirou, and Kouda shuffled in, accepting the masks Uraraka handed to them.

“Here!” Kaminari held up a bag of candy. “Being sick sucks! This’ll cheer ya up!” Kouda held up a jar of honey.

“It’s honey from some local bees.” He signed, “It will help your throat!” Iida nodded.

“Thank you, Kouda, Kaminari.”

“Jirou brought something too!” Kaminari slung an arm around Jirou’s shoulders. “Didn’t ya, Jirou?” Jirou scowled and shrugged off his hold. She had a CD clenched in both hands.

“It’s, um...” Jirou fiddled with the CD, “It’s a playlist, of the songs I like to listen to when I’m sick.”

“I see!” Iida nodded as he accepted the CD. “Thank you, Jirou! I’ll be sure to listen to it!”

“You don’t have to,” She muttered and turned away, fiddling with her earphone jacks. “Just, if you want. Feel better!” She hurried out. Kaminari flashed a thumbs-up and Kouda waved before they left as well.

“I’m shocked,” Iida murmured and rubbed at his neck, “That so many people have stopped by with their support.”

“Of course they have!” Uraraka laughed and leaned over to ruffle his hair. “We all love you, Iida! Our awesome class prez!”

“A-Ah…” Iida gently waved away the touch. “Uraraka, please try to limit contact. But, thank you.”

Midoriya grinned at their antics, then caught a flash of movement at the door. He turned just in time to see something purple and fluffy duck out of sight.

“Shinsou?” He guessed, “Is that you?”

“…Yeah.” Shinsou poked his head back into few, wearing a slightly displeased expression. “I’ll, come back later.”

“It’s fine!” Uraraka assured him, “Come on in! Did you stop by to give something to Iida?”

“Who said I had anything to give him?” He muttered, tugging his bag behind his back. He was silent for a beat, then sighed and reached inside.

“I just, had it around.” He pulled out a candle. “It’s lavender scented. It’s supposed to help with sleeping.” He tossed it at Midoriya, who fumbled to catch it, then turned back toward the door. “That’s it. Don’t go letting a cold keep you down long, alright?”

“Of course!” Iida answered as he left, “Thank you, Shinsou!”

“Whatever.”

Midoriya smiled faintly as he set the candle down on the bedside table. “He does care,” He told Iida, “But he tries to act like he doesn’t.” Iida returned the smile and nodded.

“Yes, I can tell. I hope-”

“Pardon.” They looked up to see Tokoyami at the doorway, with Shouji behind him. Tokoyami bowed in greeting. “Are we interrupting anything?”

“No, it’s fine,” Iida answered, “Can I help you with something?”

“We came to help you.” Tokoyami stepped inside, accepting the mask Midoriya handed him. Midoriya then turned to hand one to Shouji, then faltered. Shouji stared back at him. Midoriya gave an embarrassed laugh and turned away.

“Sorry, never mind.”

“Wait,” Shouji held his hand out, “I’ll take it.” Midoriya paused, then held the mask out again. Shouji took it and stuck it on his dupli-mouth instead. He flashed Midoriya a thumbs-up. Midoriya returned it, unsure how much he was joking around.

“Now then,” Tokoyami, fumbling a little to get his own mask on, came over to Iida. He studied him intently, nodding to himself every so often.

“It’s good that the window is open,” He finally said, “It helps get the bad air out.”

“Yes,” Iida looked over at the window, “and I’m sure the fresh air helps with-ah.” He broke off as Tokoyami stuck a piece of paper to his forehead.

“A talisman to ward off spirits of misfortune,” Tokoyami explained, “They are attracted to the sick.” He offered up several charms. “I also made these. This one will help with a speedy recovery, and this one will ease you in finding sleep.”

“Th…Thank you Tokoyami.” Iida accepted the charms.

“I brought a blanket.” Shouji held up a heavy blanket, then one of his other arms held up something white a fluffy. “-And a towel.”

“A…A towel?” Midoriya’s eyebrows drew together. “For, his forehead?” Shouji turned to fix him with a level stare.

“No, for purification.”

“Purification?” Iida echoed. Tokoyami nodded and pulled out a large, old-fashioned jug.

“Shouji’s going to help me with the process.”

“Wait!” Iida yelped and thrust his hand out in a stopping gesture. “I would rather not...! Get my room wet!”

“That’s what Shouji is going to help me with.”

Shouji set the blanket down on the bed, then turned and scooped Iida up. Iida yelped and his arms flailed for purchase.

“Shouji! Excuse me!” Iida made a frantic chopping motion. “You should not be holding me! I could infect you!”

“It’s alright,” Shouji headed for the door, “I’m wearing two masks. I’ll be fine.” Tokoyami padded off after him. Midoriya, Uraraka, and Todoroki looked at each other, then hurried to follow.

000

“Yeah,” Aizawa tapped his papers into a neat pile, “It was definitely quieter with Iida out sick, which was nice, but the students were also less motivated. He has that effect on people.”

“Right, right...” Yagi nodded along as he graded his own papers. “That Iida, he really does bring a certain energy to the group. I hope he recovers quickly.”

“No doubt,” Aizawa picked up his next pile of papers, “He’s strong. He’ll probably shake it off in a day.” Aizawa sighed as he started to mark the papers. “Everyone in that class is way too energetic for me. It’s a special group this year.”

“Come now, Aizawa,” Yagi shook his head, “I’m sure every class you’ve taught is special in some way.”

“Oy, Aizawa.” Aizawa looked up at Yamada, who had one arm propped up against the window, staring down at the yard.

“What? Another dog?”

“Nah,” Yamada squinted and pressed one finger to the window. “Ain’t that Tokoyami down there? Waving a Haraigushi and dancing around?”

“Sounds harmless enough.”

“He’s got Iida sitting on some big paper drawn with symbols.”

“Is Iida conscious?”

“Yeah.”

“Is anyone else with them?”

“Shouji, Midoriya, Uraraka, and Todoroki.”

Aizawa paused, leaned back, and appeared to do some quick calculations in his head over the situation.

“Are Bakugo, Kaminari, or Kirishima nearby?”

“No?”

Aizawa sighed and went back to his papers.

“It’s probably fine then, but tell me if Shouji leaves.”

“Tokoyami is pouring something on Iida.”

“Is he screaming?”

“No.”

“Then it’s fine.” Aizawa continued to grade his papers, then paused. He raised his head to fix Yagi with a level stare.

“Special,” He said simply, “Uniquely special.”

000

“Well,” Iida sighed, tugging on a fresh pair of pajamas. “I do feel refreshed and clean now.”

“From the purification or the bath you took after?” Midoriya asked.

“Admittedly, it was probably the bath.” He ruffled a hand through his damp hair. “It was kind of Shouji to carry me to the baths, and give me those medicinal soaps.” Iida heaved a sigh as he plopped back down on the bed again. “I believe my fever has broken,” He murmured, rubbing his neck. Todoroki came over to press a cooling hand to the back of his neck. Iida hummed in pleasure and closed his eyes. He drooped to the side, and Todoroki’s other hand snapped out to catch him. Iida blinked rapidly, then slapped his cheeks and shook his head.

“Ah, sorry, Todoroki.”

“You should rest,” Todoroki said. Iida nodded wearily.

“Yes, I agree.” He sighed and settled himself back down in bed. “I’m sorry,” He murmured, “That you passed the whole day caring for me.”

“Don’t worry about it,” Todoroki lit Shinsou’s candle with two fingers, “Just get some sleep, alright?”

Midoriya closed the window and the curtains. Uraraka put on Jirou’s CD at a soft volume. It was filled with quiet, soothing notes. Midoriya tugged the extra blankets around Iida, making sure they were snug.

“We’ll check on you in the morning,” Midoriya told him, “Just get some rest tonight, ok?”

“I’m so grateful,” Iida whispered, “To all of you, everyone…coming to support me. I’m so…” His eyelids sunk lower and lower as he spoke, “grate…ful.” Midoriya smiled and ruffled his hair.

“We’re grateful for you too, Iida,” He answered softly, “All of us. We really do appreciate what you do for us.” Iida didn’t answer. He was already fast asleep. Midoriya turned to the others and pressed a finger to his mouth.

There were a few more things to do. Midoriya took care of the trash, now filled with tissues. Uraraka took the dishes back to the kitchen. Todoroki tidied up the rest of the room. A few minutes later, they were all out in the hall, closing the door gently behind them.

“Feel better, Iida,” Midoriya whispered, “Happy Birthday.”

000

Early next morning, Midoriya jogged down the hallway for Iida’s room. He had some time for a quick check in before cla-

Midoriya skidded to a stop, blinking rapidly.

“Midoriya!” Iida jerked one arm up. “Do not run in the hallways!”

“Wha-” Midoriya looked him up and down. He was in a cleaning outfit, with a handkerchief wrapped around his head. He wielded a mop in one hand and seemed to be in the process of cleaning the hallway outside his door. “Iida?? What are you doing?”

“Cleaning of course!” Iida made a chopping motion at his dorm room. “Since I was sick yesterday, I must purge the area of all germs immediately!” His chopping hand whipped around to point at Midoriya. “Did you take a bath after leaving my room??”

“Oh, uh yeah!” Midoriya nodded quickly. Iida sighed in relief and pressed his fist to his chest.

“Good, I’m so relieved. And you feel well?”

“Yeah!” Midoriya nodded again. “I’m fine! And you…?”

“I am back to tip-top condition!” Iida planted a hand on his hip and flashed a wide grin. “Thanks to the assistance of you and all the others! Ah!” He dropped his mop to dip into a deep bow, hands pressed to his sides. “Thank you so much for taking care of me last night! I am truly grateful!”

“It’s not problem! Really!” Midoriya flailed his arms and shook his head. “Of course we wanted to help! I’m just glad you’re feeling better!”

“I am!” Iida straightened up, “And I will be sure to thank everyone else as well! Ah!” He turned back to his work. “But first I must hurry to finish this before class!”

“W-Wait!” Midoriya stooped to pick up some rags. “I’ll help too! Then it’ll get done faster!”

“Midoriya!” Iida smacked his hand to his chest, “After all you did for me yesterday, I can’t expect you to-”

“It’s fine!” Midoriya insisted, then grinned. “You need to be early to class, don’t you? Or else we all might worry!”

“Is that so??” Iida yelped and straightened up. “Then I really must make haste!” Midoriya laughed as Iida ducked back into his room.

“Glad to have you back, Iida.”

Notes:

And thus, everyone flooded Iida with love and support. He cried thinking about it, and swore to support them in the same way.

Shinsou was hoping to catch Iida alone, preferably while he was sleeping, so no one could witness him caring.

I genuinely don't know if Shouji was serious about putting a mask on his extra mouth, just kidding around, or he was so touched to be offered a mask he made another mouth for it.

Shouji just goes with whatever his spooky bird friend is planning. Makes life interesting.

Aizawa keeps a mental table of how dangerous a combination any of his students are. That group combination is fine but it's on thin fucking ice. If Shouji leaves they will be deemed "Too lacking in common sense." And Aizawa will haul ass down there.
