Late

Summary:

In which the Bicycle Club finish late (as usual) and Miki and Aya walk home as the sun sets.

Work Text:

The Bicycle Club always finish practise late, and today is no exception. They ride for hours and then spend loads of time fixing up their bikes afterwards, and only finally head home from school so late the sun is setting (or even already set).

Aya knows this better than most students at their school for a simple reason: she’s dating the club’s manager. And dating Miki may be awesome, but, God, hanging around with the Bicycle Club can be painfully boring. She just doesn’t understand their love for bikes, how they can kneel on the ground and adjust wheels and gears and seats, getting covered in oil and dirt in the progress. She can see why they like to cycle, because riding a bike can be pretty fun, but to go so fast and so far on those uncomfortable road racers? Aya just can’t understand it.

Still, you don’t have to fully understand things to get along with others. So even though she doesn’t get their love of cycling, she spends time with the club, including coming with Miki to support them during races. Mainly because seeing Miki so excited about bikes and everything about them is so adorable she can’t help but grin.

Once again, the club have finished very late. As Kinjou-san locks the clubroom and the boys all disappear off in different directions, Miki and Aya wander home. It’s quite the walk, but they don’t mind it. After all, they spend a lot of time around each other, but rarely when they are alone.

Miki reaches for her hand; even though her knuckles are stained with oil, Aya takes her hand and interlocks their fingers. The setting sun casts everything in orange light, and Miki looks so beautiful.

Aya smiles; spending time with Miki is just awesome.
