Chapter Text
Izuku wasn’t sure how much longer he was going to get away with it.
The first time had been a complete and ultimately utterly terrifying accident. They were both on house arrest after their fight. Honestly, Izuku felt that they had gotten lucky that was all they got after everything that had happened leading up to that. They had started cleaning the hallways on the top floor and worked their way down to the commons area on the ground floor of the dorms. After they completed that, they were instructed to go work on their homework since they were missing lessons during the day. They decided that it would be easier to study in Kacchan’s room up on the 4th floor since it was further away from the noise of the first-floor commons.
The pair sat at Kacchan’s desk for several hours poring over homework. Izuku felt himself yawn after finishing up the last of his work. Glancing over, he noticed that Kacchan had fell asleep in the middle of their last assignment, face pillowed by the textbook. Izuku knew that Kacchan would be absolutely unbearable the next day if he slept like that all night. Knowing he was the one who had to deal with him, meant he had to do something to prevent possible future injury by default. Izuku somehow managed to wrestle Kacchan out of his seat and lug him over towards his bed. Kacchan weighs so much more than I thought he would. All that muscle is nothing but dead weight.
In a final act of glorious incoordination, Izuku tripped over his own feet, landing on Kacchan’s bed and pulling the other boy down with him. A surprised squawk left Izuku’s mouth as he realized the situation he now found himself in. He was laying on his back with Kacchan laying half over him, face close to Izuku’s ear lightly snoring. Seriously! How do I manage to get myself into this shit? Izuku shifted a bit to try and untangle his limbs from Kacchan’s but the guy was majorly dead weight. He definitely didn’t look like he weighed as much as he felt right now. Another yawn pulled at Izuku’s face and he realized how exhausted he was. They may not have been training, but even cleaning had turned into a competition between them and he was sure they had worked harder than was necessary cleaning invisible dirt from the fairly new dorms. Deciding to lay there for a bit, hoping that Kacchan would get uncomfortable and move, Izuku stared at the ceiling for a while before his lids fell shut and didn’t open. Izuku woke later, noticing the dim light coming from Kacchan’s desk lamp and noticing that he was no longer pinned underneath said boy. Quickly, he leapt from the bed, grabbed up his stuff and left Kacchan’s room. The next day, Izuku tried to gauge where Kacchan was on the whole ordeal, but there was no apparent outward reaction from the boy with the explosive temper, so Izuku figured he had lucked out and decided to keep his mouth shut.
Things went back to normal for a while after that. Izuku had arrived back at the dorms after some intensive one-on-one training with All Might, to find everyone gathered in the common area. The weather was getting cooler out, sweat chilling his skin as he hurried back to the dorms. Wondering what was going on, he managed to squeeze in on the couch next to Kacchan. About five minutes into the group discussion, Izuku noticed that Kacchan had passed out next to him, arms crossed and head bent. Hmm, he must not be getting enough sleep, those supplementary lessons must be rough. A few minutes later, Izuku noticed Kacchan’s head hit his shoulder…the heat from his body was pleasantly warm and quickly lulled Izuku into a relaxed state. Soon all other voices had faded away.
A noise off in another part of the commons stirred Izuku sometime later. He groggily opened his eyes, wondering when he had fell asleep. Something warm shifting next to him, immediately brought Izuku to full awareness. Panic started to set in as he realized that Kacchan was still snoozing on his shoulder. Oh, my One for All! If Kacchan wakes and finds us like this he’ll kill me and anyone he thinks is a witness. He’ll probably destroy the entire commons just for good measure.
Carefully, Izuku shifted Kacchan so that he was laying back against the couch again. He double checked that he was still asleep and then took off out of the commons area. As he approached Kirishima he nodded back in the direction he left Kacchan. Kirishima looked behind him and then shuffled off to wake Katsuki as he grasped the situation. Izuku pointedly ignored the wink he got as Kirishima passed by him, even though he felt his face heat up anyway. It looked like they would be getting called for supper soon so he headed off towards the dining hall, avoiding the looks of his classmates and failing to swallow down the horrifying embarrassment of knowing they all saw him and Kacchan napping together on the couch.
Strangely enough, the ‘napping incidents’ as Izuku had started referring to them as kept occurring. The next time happened on the bus coming home from a weekend training. This time he wasn’t sure which of them fell asleep first or who initiated contact unconsciously. However, he was the first one to wake, quickly scooting to the end of the seat, jostling Kacchan just enough to rouse him from his sleep. Surprisingly enough, Izuku only received a half glare from Kacchan as he stretched and repositioned himself in the seat.
The next time, Izuku wasn’t sure that this counted in his understanding of the ‘napping incidents’ but he included it anyway. The group had split up into smaller groups of three to four for stamina training. Aizawa said with stamina training they would be able to use their quirks for a longer period and at a higher rate of usage. The obstacle course covered all sorts of situations that they were required to use their quirk during. Of course, they had put him and Kacchan in a group together so it instantly became a competition between them. They were a couple of the first to complete the course, but they had pushed hard enough to collapse shortly after crossing the finish line.
Frankly, Izuku was fine to just lay where he fell until he had recovered enough to go home, but luck was never on his side. Izuku felt himself being moved and placed somewhere nearby. He felt something being placed beside him and he thought he heard whispers and giggling before the sound traveled too far away. When he woke a short time later, he was still so tired but also stiff for some reason. Alarms went off as he realized that he was currently the little spoon, noting a muscular arm wrapped tightly around his waist. A sharp intake of air followed the discovery of a nose buried in the side of his neck and shallow breathing that left goosebumps in their wake.
Izuku caught sight of the spikey blonde hair out of his peripheral vision, at which point his brain completely short-circuited. How do I keep getting myself into these situations?, Is this some sort of sign that I’m not going to live long enough to be a pro hero? Either from death by classmate or some sort of mental breakdown? How did we end up on the same cot together? There’s no way I got up and climbed onto the cot with Kacchan, right? He certainly didn’t want to spoon with me after a training session out here where everyone can see. Oh, damn. I completely forgot about everyone else, how many of our classmates have seen us laying here like this…
"Shut up, Deku."
Izuku froze at the sound, muscles aching in his effort to remain still. Voice gravelly and full of sleep with no real bite to it, he quickly realized that Kacchan had scolded him in his sleep. Which also meant that Izuku had been muttering again. Deciding it was in his best interests to get as far away as possible, Izuku moved to get up. A squeeze around his waist that pulled his back flush against the chest behind him halted his movements and frazzled his nerves a bit.
At this point, he was getting frustrated with the situation. Well, Kacchan is the one keeping me from getting up, so he can deal with the fallout when he wakes up. Izuku huffed to himself and settled back down, allowing the steady heartbeat against his back to soothe him back to sleep.
When next he woke, it was to Uraraka poking him in the forehead and telling him to get up. Izuku in a slight daze turned and looked at the face smiling at him before he remembered where he was and who was behind him. Jerking quickly to look behind himself, he found that he was alone on the cot. Where is Kacchan? Did any of that stuff happen or was it just some weird dream brought on by exhaustion? He still wasn’t sure about that ordeal. Kacchan never said anything and he was too suspicious to bring it up to any of his other classmates.
A few months later…
At this point, Izuku was sure that there couldn’t possibly be any more ways for him and Kacchan to accidentally end up napping together. Lately, they almost seemed to gravitate to each other before said naps happened. What circle of hell have I stumbled upon for this to keep happening to me? The stress of discovery had been gradually eating Izuku alive, along with trying to avoid Kacchan and ending up as close to him as humanly possible. Strangely enough, no one had outright said anything to either of them about this development, which Izuku also found distressing. They almost seemed to be going out of their way to allow these incidents to occur. Izuku couldn’t wrap his head around why his classmates were being so reckless with not only his but their own well-being, should Kacchan find out what had been going on. Not to mention, in recent weeks, Kacchan had also been exhibiting some behavior that had Izuku scratching his head and wondering what alternate universe he had fallen into.
Then, the pictures started to show up. First, was one that showed up on his desk, all unassuming and innocent. Next, one fell out of his gym locker. He received one through the mail, which had everyone questioning his face when he realized what it was. Some of the pictures were of incidents he didn’t remember. He was beginning to wonder if Midnight had been putting them to sleep for his classmates to have more ammunition. Finally, a stack of them showed up on his desk in his dorm, with a note. Don’t go asking questions or we'll share these with Bakugo. Frankly, that horrified him a bit. He knew Kacchan would never be okay with what was happening, and though that hurt deep down, he knew this all needed to stop. He just wasn’t sure how to broach the subject with his explosive friend.
