Chapter Text
Jungkook knits his brows and grimaces as he slowly opens his eyes. The curtains in the bedroom aren’t closed anymore allowing bright sun rays into the room. He pushes his torso up languidly propping himself on the insides of his palms. He yawns and just stays like that for a minute, not quite totally awake yet. He scratches his scalp and glances at the other side of the bed. It’s empty. Jimin must have woken up earlier today because of work. He told him something about his shift’s time window being moved a few hours ahead yesterday, but Jungkook has been far too invested in playing Overwatch at given moment.
He pouts a little because he wasn’t able to say ‘Good morning’ to his boyfriend and send him off with a sweet kiss. He’ll have to wait till he gets back, he guesses.
He gets out of bed lazily, his bladder screaming at him. He almost trips on his way out of the bedroom, not able to fully open his eyes yet. The fact that there are Jimin’s books scattered all across the floor doesn’t help, either. What are they doing down there anyway? He has absolutely no clue, but he sighs and picks them up to put them on the dresser right next to the door.
He crosses the living room hurriedly heading to the bathroom. He closes his hand around the doorknob of the toilet’s door but doesn’t pull it as he hears a muffled voice. He smiles joyfully. So Jimin hasn’t left, yet.
His smile however dissipates as soon as he registers the words leaving his boyfriend’s mouth.
“It’s not you, you did nothing wrong. It’s me. I just don’t feel the same way about you anymore. You know how it is, people grow up, they change.”
Cold sweat rushes down Jungkook’s body.
No, he doesn’t know how it is, he didn’t change, he thinks as he feels the walls of the small apartment closing up on him. He feels like someone has just slapped him. Does Jimin really think of breaking up with him? But he always thought they’d be forever. Jimin always assured him of that. Is it really possible to change so quickly? He thought they were just fine. Jimin hasn’t been acting any weird the past weeks. He was affectionate as always. He hugged Jungkook, he kissed him, told him he loves him.
When? When did this happen? When did he change? Jungkook is confused.
“Ugh, that’s so cringy. How do you break up with someone?” he hears Jimin say and he feels his eyes prickling with tears. His lower lip quivers and he lets out a sniffle.
What will he do now? How is he going to manage without Jimin by his side? Did the older already decide? Is he sure?
No, fuck. This isn’t happening.
Jungkook takes a deep breath to calm himself. He hears the water stream hitting against the shower base and he lets go of the doorknob. He shakes his head vigorously, he’s not going to accept it just like that. No, he won’t give up, he will fight for this relationship. He will use all of his might to save them. And then, if there really is nothing left to do anymore, he will accept Jimin’s decision. But not before.
Determined, he makes his way to the kitchen which is separated from the living room only with a countertop. He completely forgets about the fact that he originally wanted to pee, his mind occupied with something else at the moment. He checks the sink, but there are no dirty dishes in there. That means Jimin hasn’t eaten, yet. Great, Jungkook will make breakfast. That’s a good first step in showing that he cares, right? Especially that he usually stays as far away as he can from the stoves.
“Okay, let’s get it.” he nods trying to cheer himself up. He takes out a few eggs from the fridge and cracks them on the frying pen. Okay, so far so good. He tries stirring the eggs and realizes everything is just sticking to the pan “Fuck.” he curses. Butter.
Never mind. He’ll just make sandwiches. You can never go wrong with the sandwiches.
“What are you doing?” he jumps as he hears Jimin’s voice, his hand flies to his chest.
Jimin just stands there, leaning against the wall, amusement clear on his face. He looks like an actual angel and Jungkook doesn’t know if he should approach him. Normally, he would. But he doesn’t want to make Jimin uncomfortable. So he just stares at blond’s small form, his body on almost full display as he only has a towel wrapped around his hips. This is a new feeling to him, very weird he might add. The love of his life is just standing right there and he hesitates to do anything, like an awkward teenager. He suddenly feels like they’re strangers and he hates it.
“Breakfast?”
“What’s the sudden occasion?” he asks raising one brow “You don’t even eat breakfast.”
“It’s for you.” Jungkook replies and immediately stares down at his feet. However, he manages to pick up Jimin’s wide smile with a corner of his eye.
“That’s sweet of you.” he comes closer and Jungkook looks up at him, blinking repeatedly. Jimin cups his face and he automatically wraps his arms around his boyfriend’s waist. Jimin pushes himself up on his tiptoes and pecks the tip of younger’s nose “But don’t bother. I have to run now, if I don’t wanna be late.”
Jungkook nods disappointed and watches Jimin rush to their bedroom. He then finally goes to the bathroom and by the time he gets out he hears blond’s hurried steps and the loud slam of the front door. He pouts and sits on the couch turning the TV on. He skips through the channels but there is nothing interesting to watch at eleven in the morning anyway, so he just settles on the reruns of Friends. He really can’t concentrate though, not even Chandler’s jokes getting to him as his mind circulates around his relationship that is currently on the rocks.
He tousles his hair in frustration. He feels like he’s going nuts from all the thinking he does. His whole world is crumbling down and he has never been this scared.
He tries to calm himself. He gets up and grabs his laptop. He’s usually almost as good at Overwatch as a pro gamer, but today he gets killed on the first occasion having done the most stupid beginner mistakes. He groans. He wanted to release some tension from his shoulders, but he only feels even more defeated.
He gets down on the floor and starts doing push-ups. He can feel the muscles in his arms burning and it gives him at least a little bit of relief. His body gives up on him finally and he finds himself lying flat on his stomach, cheek pressed against the fluffy rug. He turns himself, so now he’s on his back staring up on the ceiling. The apartment is quiet and he can hear the cars honking on the street outside.
Did Jimin really get bored of him? Tired of their relationship? He sniffs a little, his heart breaking into pieces. He loves Jimin so much, he can’t remember a time when he hasn’t. The tears that he successfully stopped earlier now spill and he can feel them flowing down his temples and wetting his dark hair. He’s vulnerable. He wants Jimin to come and close his arms around him. But it’s because of him that Jungkook feels like that, so it hurts even more.
He opens his eyes and doesn’t even remember when he fell asleep. He feels the dried up tears on the skin of his face and his head hurts just a bit from all the crying he has done earlier.
He pushes himself up and looks around the apartment blankly, not knowing what to do with himself. He grabs his phone from the couch and dials his best friend’s number.
“Tae?” he says after the signal gets through, his voice sounds hoarse.
“Hey there, buddy. Something wrong?” Taehyung reads him like an open book even if they’re not face to face. They have known each other for four years now, ever since high school. Originally he was from Jimin’s circle of friends, but it kind of clicked between them. And so they became best friends.
Jungkook knits his brows and tries to swallow the lump in his throat. He really needs to get this off his chest and he trusts Taehyung to keep it to himself.
“Jimin wants to break up with me.” he chokes out. He realizes this is the first time he says those words out loud.
There’s silence on the other side. He wants to ask if his friend is still there, and as he opens his mouth the latter speaks.
“What?”
“Jimin wants-”
“Yeah, I heard it the first time. But I needed to double take because it’s ridiculous.” he can almost see his friend raising his brows “You were sucking faces literally yesterday.”
“I know. I thought we were just fine, too.” Jungkook pouts.
“Then where did you get that stupid idea from?”
“I heard him say it this morning.”
“Fuck, so he really broke up with you?” he can tell Taehyung’s shocked now.
“He didn’t, but he wants to.” Jungkook sits on the couch and leans back placing his head on the back rest.
“He said that to you?”
“No, I overheard him. When he was in the bathroom.” he closes his eyes replaying the scene in his mind unconsciously “He was practicing what he’s gonna say. Like it’s not my fault, he just doesn’t love me anymore and stuff like that.”
“Are you one hundred percent sure? It could be a misunderstanding.” Taehyung tries to cheer him up a bit, but he can hear that his friend isn’t that convinced anymore, either “Fuck, I mean-”
“If he’s not planning on breaking up with me, then who else?” Jungkook shakes his head and then his eyes snap open as a thought comes to his mind “What if he’s having an affair?” he asks with a breaking voice, and wow he thought he couldn’t feel any worse. And here he is feeling like an actual shit. Because was he really not enough? Did he push Jimin into some other man’s arms?
“Okay, yeah, no. Let’s not open that door.” Taehyung says quickly “You know it’s not true.”
“I-” Jungkook doesn’t know what to say. Does he know it’s not true?
“You have to believe in him.” Taehyung encourages him “Jimin would never do that to you. God you’ve been together for almost 3 years, you should have more faith in him! I know for sure, he didn’t cheat on you.”
Jungkook is speechless and feels like he’s not in his right mind. He closes his eyes again. Taehyung is right, Jimin would never do that to him. He wouldn’t go behind Jungkook’s back and Jungkook feels so bad now for even considering it.
“You’re right, I’m sorry. He’s not like that.” he sighs defeated “But I just don’t know what to do or think, you know? I really love him a lot, I don’t want him to leave me.”
“Shush, don’t cry. Everything will be alright.” only now that Taehyung pointed it out does Jungkook notice that he’s crying. Again.
He wants to say something but the words are stuck in his throat.
“Kook-” Taehyung starts, but his voice trails off “Fuck. I really don’t know what to say. Do you want me to talk to him?”
Jungkook shakes his head violently but realizes the other can’t see him.
“No!”
“Then what are you gonna do?”
“I don’t know. I want to ask him, but I’m scared of the confrontation.”
“Maybe…”
“Maybe what?”
“Maybe he feels neglected?” Taehyung suggests “I mean you do play Overwatch a lot when you’re not in class or at work.”
Jungkook frowns. Has he been neglecting Jimin lately?
“Fuck.” He rubs his hand across his face “I thought he was okay with it, he never said anything.”
“You should try to do something. Like…” he hears Taehyung breath out “I don’t know man. Dress up, take him out.”
Jungkook parts his mouth slightly, surprised.
“Jungkook?” Taehyung reads his friend’s thoughts once again “When was the last time you took him out?” Jungkook is frozen, eyes fixated on the wall in front of him “Answer me, you fucker!”
“Yesterday?” he says, but it sounds like a question not a statement “We sucked faces?”
“That was a gathering at Yoongi’s, not a date!” Taehyung raises his voice and Jungkook feels like he would punch him if he was here.
“You’re right.” he hides his face in his palms “I’m such a bad boyfriend. Oh my god, I’d break up with me, too.” he shakes his head ashamed “Maybe I should just let him.”
“What? No!” his best friend yells and he flinches moving the phone further away from his ear “You’re like the best couple out there! Just make yourself pretty and take him to some cute café or some restaurant, idk.”
“Should I?”
“Yes! Oh, I know!” Taehyung sounds excited now “You should buy him flowers and wait for him in front of work! Make him feel like a princess!”
“He’s a man.” Jungkook frowns, but cracks a smile.
“Then make him feel like a prince! I don’t know, I have no experience in gay relationships!”
“Yeah, I noticed.” he laughs “Thanks, Tae.”
He feels a lot lighter now, he knows what he’s done wrong and he’s going to fix this before Jimin gets a chance to end things off with him.
“No problem, man.”
Jungkook gets up from the couch and rushes to the toilet. He takes a long bathe and styles his hair for the first time in a few days. He doesn’t really wear make up nor does he know how to apply it and so he doesn’t dare touch Jimin’s cosmetics. He then puts on his best clothes (white T-shirt and jeans) and examines himself in a full-length mirror in the hall.
He doesn’t look bad. He hopes his boyfriend will think alike.
He takes a glimpse at the time displayed on the microwave and takes a deep breath. Jimin’s shift ends in half an hour.
He grabs his phone and his wallet and makes his way out of the apartment. Having purchased a bunch of red roses at a flower shop next to their block he heads straight to the Starbucks the older works at. It’s not that long of a walk, approximately ten minutes. He stands in front of the café avoiding the French windows so Jimin doesn’t notice him through the glass. He peeks inside discreetly and watches the man smiling at the customer. Jungkook automatically smiles, too, completely smitten. God what was he thinking? Who is he to neglect such an angel? He should have cherished him as his treasure. He immediately wants to bump his head against the wall, but he doesn’t need people thinking he’s weird.
He hides quickly when he sees Jimin disappear in the back and glances down at his watch. It’s time.
He taps his foot nervously and gulps when the boy comes out of the small building with a cup of coffee in his hand and a denim jacket thrown across his shoulders. Jimin notices him of course and stops in his tracks. He smiles at him sweetly and then his eyes subconsciously travel down to the flowers Jungkook is holding. He widens his eyes and blinks a few times.
“Kookie, a-are those for me?”
Jungkook just nods biting his lower lip shyly and outstretches his hand to give him the flowers. He feels like he’s trying to ask the other out for the first time. It certainly doesn’t feel like they have been a couple for three years at the moment. He’s an awkward mess.
Jimin smiles at him again as he comes closer. He takes the bouquet and wraps his hands around taller’s neck. He climbs on his tip toes and kisses Jungkook passionately. Surprised, Jungkook moans silently into it and his palms rest on his boyfriend’s waist.
“Thank you, baby.” Jimin breaks the contact of their lips and looks deeply into his eyes. He looks happy, Jungkook notices and starts wondering why he doesn’t do this kind of things everyday to make his angel glow.
“Are you hungry?” he asks and slips his palms into Jimin’s back pockets groping his ass cheeks. Jimin just nods his head enthusiastically.
