Chapter Text
With one final stroke of her eye liner, her make up was set. Jolyne smiled at her reflection in the mirror, taking a step back to admire her outfit. She was wearing a fuschia long sleeved crop top and a denim mini skirt. A relieved sigh left her lips and she checked the time on her phone. “Oh, crap. I gotta hurry!” She threw her phone, wallet and keys inside a small purse and walked out.
Today was finally the day she and Ermes would go on a date. The thought of it set her heart aflutter and made her cheeks warm up. Jolyne had been in love with her best friend for almost a year now. It stunned her to no ends when Ermes asked her out on an actual date last week. She had never expected her to feel the same way, so it came as a pleasantly wonderful surprise.

Ermes smiled at her from where she sat. She wore a black tank top and some jean shorts. Her dark hair was pulled back in a ponytail and she wore black lipstick. Jolyne couldn’t keep her eyes off of her.
“Hey!” Ermes exclaimed, standing up from her chair. She closed the distance between them, wrapping her arms around Jolyne’s waist.
Jolyne grinned, leaning into the embrace and taking in the scent of her perfume. It was the sweet vanilla scented one she always wore. Jolyne loved it, it always managed to make her nervousness dissipate. “Sorry I’m a little late,” she said, pressing a quick kiss on her cheek.
“Ah, it’s fine! I just got here too.” Ermes blushed a little at the sign of affection, finally letting go of her. She looked at Jolyne, the smile returning to her face. “You look beautiful.”
“So do you.”
They both sat, goofy smiles on their faces as the waiter came up to take their order. Ermes ordered a gelato and coffee and Jolyne asked for a cheesecake and an iced latte.
“I never thought you’d agree to come on an actual date with me,” Ermes said, scratching the back of her head bashfully.
Jolyne raised an eyebrow. “Really? I thought I had all but held up a huge neon sign over my head that said I was gay for you,” she said, trying to hold back her laughter.
Ermes let out a chuckle at this, shaking her head. “No, oh my god, I had no idea,” she paused, biting her lip, “I’ve had a huge crush on you for so loooong and I was so scared to tell you, which I guess was a little silly, huh?”
“I mean, I can’t really judge you because… same.” She took a sip of her latte, placing her hand over Ermes’.
“Foo was actually the one that pushed me to do it,” Ermes asked, fully taking Jolyne’s hand in hers.
Jolyne snorted, she should have expected this, really. Foo was a little clueless at times, which only made this whole situation a lot funnier. She had figured out they liked each other and forced them to finally get the balls to ask each other out. All of the things Foo had hinted at lately suddenly made a lot more sense. They might have been driving her crazy, actually. Jolyne made a mental note to thank her later.
“I know, right?” Ermes shook her head in disbelief. “I called her immediately after you said yes. All she said was ‘finally.’”

They sat, hand in hand, for a few hours. Both of them had been so caught up in the conversation, they barely noticed time pass at all. It was only when Jolyne’s alarm went off that they realized how much time had passed. “Whoa, what! It’s this late already?”
Ermes quickly checked her own phone and nodded, a bemused smile on her lips. “Crazy,” she paused, looking back up at Jolyne, “Time went by really fast, huh?”
Jolyne let out a groan. “I don’t wanna go work, ugh.”
“Cute.”

After leaving the cafe, they stood in front of each other with nervous smiles. “So… what do you think?” Jolyne asked, inching closer to Ermes. She could feel her heartbeat fasten at the proximity.
“I think I wanna take you out again. To the movies next time, maybe?” Ermes looked at her nervously, as if unsure of what she would reply.
Jolyne smiled, nodding enthusiastically. “I would love that.”
Ermes pulled her in for another hug, holding her close. “I had a wonderful time today, Jolyne.”
“Me too, Ermes,” she said once they pulled away, hesitating for a second before closing the distance between their lips. The kiss felt nearly electrifying and it set her heart ablaze. Her lips felt perfect against her own. In that moment, Jolyne knew she belonged together with Ermes.
