Tell Me You Love Me

Summary:

Turn to me and look me in the eyes,
Turn with the tide and sweep me away.
I'll listen to you, only you, my love
So tell me you love me, tell me to stay.

Notes:

JonaDio Week
Day 2 - Fantasy/Mythical - AU

I feel like these two prompts just go hand in hand and I'm a sucker for mermaids/sirens so here's this :0
There is a slight story behind this which was mainly just me and my friend Hana going off on one and having a really long talk about Dio and Jonathan having met at the beach as children and growing to love each other, and then Dio disappearing and Jonathan being a lovesick fool, and then them meeting again and yadda yadda you get the gist of it - it's sappy and romantic and cliche aha, but thats all the kind of things i love so...

I hope you enjoy and i know my poetry isn't the best but i did like writing this one aha

Work Text:

Remember that day you left me alone?
Under the stars in the cloudless sky,
A kiss against my lips and a hand against mine
In the night, with a whispered goodbye.

There never was a man who could escape the thrall of Dio's song, but this time Dio found himself enthralled by a human.

It was a simple melody, gentle, and one that carried across the wind with ease allowing Dio to be graced by its beauty. Something he found rather humorous as surely, he was the one to be gracing people with his beauty. There was not supposed to be someone or something that he would find quite as beautiful.

Turn to me and look me in the eyes,
Turn with the tide and sweep me away.
I'll listen to you, only you, my love
So tell me you love me, tell me to stay.

He swam through the ocean waves, low enough to not be seen from above but high enough to still be able to pick out that song that swept emotions through his body, from the top of his head down to the tip of his tail. He swam, following that beautiful song, humming it to himself unknowingly as he became more familiar and closer to it.

It came from a boat. A boat in a cove on the side of a beach that Dio used to frequent when he was younger. Unnecessary memories came back with his return but they were worth it to be closer to this singing man and the enchanting quality of it.

The days we spent by each other’s side
We thrived endlessly for years and years
Something there but not quite there;
Something stronger than all my fears.

He could hear the sound of steps on the wooden planking of it, the weight of human feet on the other side of the wood heavy in his ears. Safe in the confines of his watery home, Dio swam under the boat swishing his tail lightly to just float there and listen to the song that had audible lyrics now. They were clearer and entrancing, and Dio felt as though he was finally understanding what his victims felt like what he was singing.

It was… strange.

Almost as if he knew this voice.

But he couldn’t pinpoint it. Every time he thought he could remember where he’d heard this voice from before, it slipped away and disappeared from his mind.

It sounded like home.

Turn to me and look me in the eyes,
Turn with the tide and take me away.
I'll listen to you, only you, my love
So tell me you love me, say it's okay.

The song continued and Dio got more adventurous with what he was doing. He swam a bit away, hiding behind one of the rocks, to poke his head above the waves and catch a glimpse of this human.

It was a man with blue hair, like the depths Dio lived in, and eyes, like the sky above them, and a herculean physique that Dio couldn’t take his eyes off. He had meant for it to be a quick look, he really had, but this man was just so beautiful he really couldn’t stop looking, even though he knew he wasn’t the most well hidden so it could very well blow his cover. He was smiling softly, with a nostalgic look on his face, one that Dio felt as though he’d seen before.

Where have you gone? My golden ray of sun
That disappeared off into the sea.
Where have you gone? Why have you left?
Why are you somewhere where I can't be?

With that, the song ended, and the human sighed a wistful sigh casting his eyes down at his hands and just enjoying the bobbing of his boat the waves of the sea.

Be it any other day, any other person, or anything other than what it was, then Dio would have definitely enthralled this human himself, if because of nothing else but pride to not be one upped by a human of all things, but this wasn’t anything other than what it was.

Sometimes it was nice to play with his prey after all. Maybe he would begin to visit this human who had gotten his attention so well and thoroughly.

And so Dio swam away, with a song in his mind that made him feel unusually sentimental.

Return to me and look me in the eyes,
Return with the tide and say you'll stay.
Let me listen to you, only you, my love.
Please tell me you love me. Say you'll stay.
