Work Text:

Jotaro is at his door.

“Grandson,” Joseph says, because that’s who Jotaro is. “So good to see you.”

“Good grief,” Jotaro does his thing. Steps away, pulls another man into the doorframe. “Old man, this is Rohan.”

Joseph looks at Rohan. He’s short, by Joestar standards, and very thin. His hair is green.

“Hello,” he says.

“You need to talk to him.”

“He doesn’t,” Rohan struggles, and Joseph realizes that Jotaro is holding him in place, one arm gripping his forearm. “Kujo, I swear to god, I’ll make you forget your phD thesis —”

“I’d like to see you try,” Jotaro shoves him into the room. “He needs to have a talk.”

Joseph regards them both calmly — plays up the cluelessness a bit, because it’s fun.

Jotaro seems to see right through him. Well. Nothing he can prove.

“Grandfather, please.”

Joseph cooes. “You called me a grandpa!”

“I did not.”

“He literally didn’t.”

Joseph stares down at the new guy — Rohan, huh — this make-up wearing youth who’s apparently on first name basis with his still young grandson.

He purses his lips. “You’re a friend of my boy’s?”

“Your — oh, you are Josuke’s father.” Rohan runs a hand down his face. “No, I am not.”

“He is,” Jotaro confirms.

“I literally tried to kill him,” Rohan is saying, still into his own hand. “I tried to kill him, and only failed because he trapped me under my own furniture, and then he burned my house down, and he owes me money — I gambled with your underage son —”

“Are you,” Jotaro says. “Trying to get my senile grandfather to fight you?”

Joseph cooes, mirroring Jotaro’s question.

Rohan glares at Jotaro. Hesitates.

“Maybe.”

Jotaro’s face is doing his version of amused. “Nice try.”

Then he’s out of the room — it’s sudden enough Joseph is certain Star Platinum was involved. The lock clicks, too, and Rohan rushes to it and tries to open it, to no avail.

Joseph watches him slump down the door, groan in exasperation.

“Long day?”

They end up on Joseph’s balcony, drinking out of his private bar — Rohan relaxes after the second drink, and is sobbing into Joseph’s chest by the fifth.

He passes out in Joseph’s bed, so Joseph does what any responsible adult would, and goes to Jotaro’s room.

Jotaro opens the door.

“Evening,” Joseph says.

“It’s two in the morning.”

“Oh,” Joseph nods. “So...good morning, then?”

Jotaro rubs at his temples. “Good grief.”

“Your young friend is asleep in my bed.”

Jotaro drops his hand.

“— asleep,” Joseph adds, quickly. “He fell asleep, so I put him there.”

Jotaro is still glaring.

“I did not sleep with this twenty-year old,” Joseph says.

Jotaro seems almost angry he got to the point. “Well, you’ve finally learned.”

He lets him have his bed, though.

__

“I can’t believe you got me to talk to your grandfather,” Rohan is furiously sketching, brows furrowed.

Jotaro watches him out of the corner of his eye. Hums.

“You’re the worst one night stand ever.”

“I don’t think it counts if it didn’t happen,” Jotaro says.

Rohan’s hand barely stills. “I got into your lap.”

“That’s not very difficult.”

He glances up. “Oh?”

Jotaro hesitates — feels his ears burn. “Didn’t mean it like that.”

Rohan watches him pull his hat down over his face, smug.

“I also gave you a boner,” he adds, sing-songy.

Jotaro grumbles. “You gave me a heart-attack with your subsequent meltdown about how your father doesn’t — “

Rohan throws a pen at him.

Rohan rings Jotaro’s room, since the man is still too stubborn to, like...stay the night.

It’s not like he doesn’t want to. He’d said so himself - said he’d like nothing more (and, wow, Rohan is getting a little flustered by the memory, this is getting ridiculous — but he can’t.

Rohan understands, in theory. Jotaro is married. Has a kid, and all. Feels guilty. Doesn’t want to be his grandfather. All very good arguments, all worthy of respect. Rohan gets it.

Rohan also really, really, really needs to get laid.

This town….isn’t big. Isn’t straight, either, thank god, but Rohan….Rohan is picky.

And he gets to be! He knows that. Tells himself that, often. He’s also a little weird, which he’s also aware of, and between his reasonably high standards, general public distaste for the type of persona he exhibits; and the unfortunate fact some people truly are straight, well.

His dating pool isn’t that big.

And then Jotaro came along. Jotaro, who’s tall and dark and handsome and not that much older, who knows and tolerates (attracts?) weird, who’s idea of a friendly outing is to sit in the same room working on respective projects (Rohan pretty much fell for him there) - he is pretty much perfect. His voice is deep and his hands are big and his hat is dorky. Rohan wants to sit on his face.

But Jotaro is married. So Rohan can’t, apparently.

He realizes he’s been pouting into the phone. Hangs up. Jotaro can pick up when he’s in the mood. Rohan isn’t desperate.

(That’s a lie. He is.)

Jotaro doesn’t even love his wife. He admitted it, himself - well, it was coaxed out of him, maybe, but a confession nonetheless. Jotaro doesn’t love his wife and wants a divorce and clearly felt fine leaving his daughter to go talk to distant illegal family instead of calling, like a normal person - so like, who her dad does or doesn’t fuck senseless isn’t really about to change the amount of therapy Kujo Junior is going to need.

Rohan had told Jotaro that much, last night, while straddling his lap.

Jotaro’s hands seemed to have trouble leaving Rohan’s ass. His eyes looked guilty.

“I know,” he said.

Rohan rolled his eyes (and his hips, a little). “Now you can’t plead ignorance -”

Jotaro’s hands held him in place, pushed him away just so slightly - his stare bore into Rohan’s soul (Rohan wondered if this was what Heaven’s Door felt like).

“Can you maybe,” Jotaro forced out, voice strained. “Not grind on me while discussing my daughter?”

Rohan rolls his eyes, but still stops (he’s not a creep). Stares down at Jotaro.

“Chill,” he says. “She’ll live.”

Jotaro looks away. He looks like he’s about to cry.

Rohan frowns. “Uh, you okay there?”

“I’ll live,” Jotaro’s voice is as expressive as ever.

Rohan sighs. “Look, I got literally disowned and still made it big so, like, don’t - “

Jotaro’s eyes are back on his.

Rohan swallows.

“You got disowned?”

Right. Heavy backstory.

“Uh,” Rohan looks away, slips off Jotaro’s lap. “Yeah, years ago.”

He can still feel Jotaro’s eyes on him. “Are you okay?”

Rohan makes himself look back. Hates how his eyes keep burning.

Jotaro is looking at him with something almost like sympathy. Rohan hates that too.

He fixes Jotaro with his most menacing glare. “I’ll live.”

---

“They didn’t want the world to know,” he says, into the drink.

Joseph rocks the invisible in his arms, hums.

Rohan is aware he’s crying. “They were almost okay with it — well, pretended to be — “ He draws a shaky breath, rubs at his eyes. “But then I started getting famous, and.” He sniffs. “They were scared the word would get out.”

He stares down at the drink in his hands. Hiccups.

“I left, cause….cause I didn’t want them to kick me out.” He laughs, bitterly. “Felt it’d be better if I just left on my own terms.” His vision is so blurry. “They had a lawyer call me to let me know I’m no longer included in the will.”

This should be more embarrassing. He’ll regret it sober. He can make Joestar forget. Jotaro too.

Rohan hiccups again.

“Your parents,” Joseph starts. Trails off.

Rohan remembers his dementia and wonders if his stand will even be necessary.

“Here,” Joestar suddenly moves, and a warm weight is placed in Rohan’s arms.

Rohan freezes.

“That’s Shizuka,” Joestar is smiling. “I just adopted her.”

“Yeah…” Rohan knows. He carefully rocks her. “So I’ve heard.”

Joestar looks proud.

Rohan feels awkward. “Congratulations?”

“She seems to like you,” Joseph muses. “Huh.”

Rohan, suddenly aware Joestar can’t know this isn’t his first time holding his adopted daughter, feels his ears burn. “Did you expect me to go invisible?”

“Hoped you wouldn’t,” Joestar reaches out; Rohan assumes to boop her nose.

Rohan just hums. Tries very hard to not drop the baby.

“You know,” Joseph says. “I didn’t know about Josuke for a long time.”

Oh, for fuck’s sake -

“And then I did, and I was scared.” Joestar leans against the wall, sighs. “I guess I — I knew I’d messed up.”

Rohan shrugs.

Joestar side-eyes him.

Rohan glares back, as defiantly as he can with a face full of snot.

“Your mascara,” Joestar says, inexplicably. “Waterproof?”

Rohan nods.

Joestar nods along. “Good brand.”

They fall into silence again.

“Oh, I was saying.” Joestar sits up again. His eyes look younger than they have right to. “I was scared Josuke would hate me.”

Rohan really doesn’t know how to respond (the baby is playing with his crop-top).

“I think he doesn’t,” Joestar hums. “And that made me really happy, you know.”

Rohan sighs. Jotaro could’ve just left him blue-balled, honestly. Didn’t have to leave him with a rambly sentimental old man too.

“Because he’s my son, even if I only just met him,” Joestar is saying. “And not doing well by him is one of my biggest regrets.”

Rohan glances up.

Joestar is staring him down (he looks awfully sincere).

“Because parents love their kids,” he says. “Whatever the kids turn out like.”

Rohan’s chest is heavy. “You sound like Kira’s father.”

“I sound like a father,” Joestar squeezes his knee. “Yours was just really shit at it.”

--

He wakes up hungover.

Jotaro is in the room.

“Morning,” he says, ever the man of many words.

Rohan just groans into the pillow.

Jotaro watches him. “You realize those are the sheets my grandfather slept in?”

Rohan freezes, but then thinks, to hell with it. Shrugs, curls up into the pillow.

“Not the first twenty year old to sleep in your granddad’s bed, I hear.”

“You’re disgusting,” Jotaro walks over (there’s no bite to it). “Come on, get up, I’m taking you home.”

Rohan groans.

“If you behave, I’ll even give you an aspirin.”

That is tempting. Rohan sits up.

Jotaro is still looking at him. Looks away abruptly.

Rohan leans back. “I heard orgasms help headaches.”

Jotaro walks out without a word.

---

Jotaro calls him back within the next hour.

“Was busy,” he says. “Is it an emergency?”

“Kind of,” Rohan is painting his toe-nails. “Your uncle is threatening my life.”

A pause. A muffled ‘give me a fucking break’.

“Well, my arms, really.” Rohan caps the bottle, admires his work. He went with blue. “But he seemed very adamant.”

“Are you bullying high schoolers again?”

Rohan scoffs. “They’re bullying me,<\em>.”

Jotaro lets out a sound that’s almost a snort. “Poor you.”

Rohan sighs. “He thinks I slept with your grandfather.”

“Oh.” A beat. “To be honest, I thought that too.”

Rohan splutters, internally. “Jotaro.”

“Rohan.”

“He’s ancient.”

Another sound. Now definitely a snort. “Well, you do go for older men.”

Rohan rubs at his temples. “Jesus fuck.”

Jotaro is laughing.

“I should roll with it,” Rohan gets up, makes a circle around his studio. “Give his wife something else to rave about.”

“God, don’t even joke about that.” He can hear Jotaro moving around too. “The whole family would have no reason to doubt you.”

Rohan snorts. “What, not even the physical improbability of him getting it up?”

“Don’t — “ Jotaro’s voice cracks. “I don’t want to think about that.”

“I mean, he is spry for his age.”

“Good grief.”

--

Josuke is knocking on his door.

Rohan is starting to feel fear.

“Jotaro,” he whispers. “Jotaro.”

The other man barely stirs. His mouth is wide agape, crusted saliva on his cheek — it shouldn’t be a pretty sigh.

Rohan considers sticking his foot in his mouth. Just to see if he’d react.

Rohan Kishibe,” he can hear Josuke yelling. “I know you’re in there!"

Rohan crawls back under the covers. Pretends to be sleeping.

Jotaro’s warm chest is directly at his eye-level.

So. This is the situation.

Rohan did not sleep with Jotaro but they did kiss for a bit, lazy and with frequent interruptions for Jotaro to bury his face in the crook of Rohan’s neck, muttering quiet ‘I should go’s while still keeping his hands in Rohan’s hair, roaming down his torso. Rohan went to bed still a little hard. Jotaro’s arms remained loosely wrapped around him.

And now his uncle was going to knock his doors down. Rohan’s life was a mess.

“Jotaro,” Rohan presses against the man, pokes at his chest. “Jotaro Kujo, wake the fuck up.”

Jotaro just groans and rolls over, like a big baby.

Rohan sighs. Sits up.

“If I die, it’s on you.”

Josuke is still dry-humping his doorbell. Rolling his eyes, Rohan swings the doors open.

“Heaven’s door,” he instinctively ducks - Josuke just managed to get one good hook going when his face flew open, and Rohan exhales.

I can’t hurt Kishibe Rohan,” he writes in. “There.”

Josuke's face slams shut. He stumbles back, then glares.

“You,” he heaves (had he ran here?). “What were you doing at my grandfather’s hotel room?”

Rohan is struggling to keep his face straight.

He blinks, slowly. “Sleeping over.”

Josuke’s whole face is red (Rohan kind of wants to draw it).

“So,” Josuke clears his throat awkwardly, reaches up to scratch his neck. “You really are gay?”

Rohan blinks. Not what he was expecting.

“I — “ he starts. “Am not going to answer that.”

Josuke’s whole face falls. “No, wait — “

“Either yell at me for disgracing your family further or scram, I am a busy — “

“I don’t know any other gay guys!” Josuke yells. Freezes. Switches to a whisper, small despite his hulking frame. “Like, you being with my dad is weird, because he’s old and also my dad, but I — “ He looks pained. “I don’t know any other gay guys.”

Rohan is hit, suddenly, with the realization that Josuke really is sixteen.

He sighs. “Josuke.”

Josuke bites down on his lip, and doesn’t respond.

“Josuke, I did not sleep with your dad.”

Josuke looks at him then (looks horrified). “So you — “

“He is so, so old.” Rohan is maintaining eye-contact. “Like, incredibly old.”

Josuke nods. “And married.”

Rohan bristles. “I guess.”

“So you’re not...shit.” Josuke laughs, clearly verging on panic. “Uh, any chance you won’t tell anyone I’m — “

Oh, god.

“Josuke,” Rohan interrupts. “I won’t out you.”

Josuke nods. Exhales.

“But,” Rohan feels an inkling of an idea. Struggles to keep a grin down. “You need to talk to someone.”

Jotaro smoothed out his coat, cleared his throat.

Josuke was avoiding his eyes.

“Josuke,” he tried. “Rohan said you needed to tell me something.”

Josuke visibly flinched at the name-drop, flailed dramatically. “Well, I did, but then — “ He flailed again (his face was red). “How long?”

Jotaro cocked an eyebrow.

Josuke spluttered (Rohan, who’d excused himself to the room next door, could be heard laughing). “How long has this been going on?”

“It’s not,” Jotaro said — it was the truth. “Nothing is happening.”

Josuke frowned. Didn’t seem to buy it.

Jotaro pulled his hat down. “A week.”

Josuke crossed his arms, looked away. “You’re married.”

Rohan’s face could be seen, leaning out past the doorway.

Jotaro flipped him off. “That’s — look, it’s not going to happen again.”

Josuke was still not looking his way.

Jotaro was going to be sick.

“Look,” Rohan spoke up — both men jumped. “Your nephew is miserably married, I’m trying to homewreck, he’s refusing to put out, that’s all that happened.”

Josuke’s eyes kept flying between the two. “Then why were you in his bed?”

He was addressing Jotaro. Fuck.

Rohan was watching him, as if himself curious about the answer — Jotaro swallowed. “He’s really good at homewrecking.”

Josuke’s eyebrows disappeared into his hairline.

Rohan rolled his eyes.

“Why,” Josuke rubbed at his face. “Why did you marry, if — “

Jotaro could feel his mouth run dry.

“Good question, huh.” Rohan turned back to his sketchbook.

Jotaro swallowed. “I thought I loved her.”

Josuke started chomping down on his lip. Looked at the verge of tears.

“But I don’t,” Jotaro forced out. “Properly.” Shit. “The way you should.”

“And you can’t tell her that?” Josuke’s voice came out faint.

Jotaro grimaced.

“He’s a coward,” Rohan hummed.

“He fought Dio!”

“Can’t beat the shit out of your internalized homophobia, I guess.”

Jotaro hated how right Rohan was.

“I’m — working on it,” he said instead.

Josuke regarded him for a second longer — then turned around on his heel, walked out.

Jotaro exhaled.

Rohan barely moved, during Josuke’s exit — then got up from his seat, walked towards his phone.

Jotaro watched him type something up. Didn’t dare speak.

“Hey,” Rohan finally broke the silence.

Jotaro looked up like a trained dog.

Rohan wasn’t looking back. “Get out of my house.”

Right. Jotaro did as told.

--

from crying croptop boy
go talk to your son asap

from mr Joestar
he wont pick up though
i think he thinks we are involved

--

“We need to talk,” Rohan says in place of a greeting.

Jotaro nods. Then remembers this is a phone call, and Rohan can’t see him. “Okay.”

A deep sigh. “I feel gross.”

Jotaro tenses. “You’re not — “

“I know I’m not,” Rohan snaps. “I just feel bad.”

Jotaro keeps quiet.

“And that’s gross.”

Jotaro snorts — good grief. “Indeed.”

“You need to go talk to Josuke,” Rohan starts, in a fast-paced no-bullshit tone (Jotaro tenses again). “Get him to talk to his father, too — he has something really important to tell you — and then,” a brief pause. “Then you need to go to your daughter.”

Jotaro’s mouth feels like sandpaper.

“You should probably tell your wife you’re gay, while you’re at it, but I can’t direct your life.”

“Rohan — “

“I mean, I could, but I won’t,” he can hear Rohan pace around. “Take it as a token of respect.”

Rohan — “

“A proverbial thank you for not taking advantage of my questionable taste in men possibly influenced by abandonment issues,”

“Rohan,” Jotaro is going to die. “Stop.”

Rohan does. For a second.

“You can’t tell me what to do — “

“Don’t thank me for that,” Jotaro says. Hesitates. “I shouldn’t have kissed you.”

Rohan hums. “Well.”

“Sorry for that,” Jotaro wishes he’d die. “Thank you for — for looking out for Josuke.”

A moment of silence.

“Don’t thank me for that,” and then Rohan hangs up.

Jotaro wonders if they’ll make a habit of parroting each others words.

--

“Don’t beat yourself up over it,” grandpa is saying.

Jotaro lies, “I’m not.”

“I’ve done worse.”

“I know, gramps.” He looks up, squints at the hunched figure. “You are talking about Tomoko, right?”

Grandpa looks back at him, all innocent smiles and invisible babies. “Of course!”

Jotaro cocks an eyebrow.

He ends up telling his wife (skips over the part with Rohan — thinks she might prefer not knowing).

She takes it as well as a person can.

“Can I still see Jolyne?” he asks, ready to get kicked out — surprised he already isn’t.

She fixes him with a stare. “I don’t know, Kujo, can you?”

--

He takes Jolyne back to Japan the next summer.

Josuke loves her — she says his hair is cool and his eyes all but turn to hearts. She likes Okuyasu, too. Okuyasu seems fascinated by how chubby her hands are.

Okuyasu and Josuke are dating now. Jotaro, who’d been expecting the news ever since Josuke came out to grandpa and him the summer before, can honestly say he’s happy for them.

(His mind wanders to Kakyoin, and it hurts — )

Rohan greets him curtly, but politely. Draws Jolyne a quick sketch.

“Good job,” he tells him, as they’re leaving.

Jotaro knows the tips of his ears are on fire.
