Soulmates

Summary:

Most people were born with a single color on their arm. The tint on the person’s skin signified the color of their soulmate’s hair. On rare occasions, people could be born with two hues on their arm, either meaning that the person had two soulmates, or a soulmate with multi-colored hair.

Izuku Midoriya was born with a total of three colors on his arm.

Work Text:

Most people were born with a single color on their arm. The tint on the person’s skin signified the color of their soulmate’s hair. On rare occasions, people could be born with two hues on their arm, either meaning that the person had two soulmates, or a soulmate with multi-colored hair.

Izuku Midoriya was born with a total of three colors on his arm. Red, white and blue were his colors. Like All Might’s costume. Like the Russian or French flag. Midoriya wondered if maybe he had three soulmates, or two. It was highly unlikely he only had one, unless his soulmate had a crazy hair color. Midoriya spent a lot of time daydreaming about what his soulmates would be like. Would they be stern or kind? Tall or short? Male of female? Outgoing or introverted? Active or laid back? Maybe one of his soulmates would be an All Might fan like himself.

Izuku didn’t meet anyone with hair colors similar to the ones on his arm until he was accepted into the hero school, U.A. Midoriya could vividly remember his first day of school. Meeting Ochako, seeing Kacchan, and meeting the first of his two soulmates, Tenya Iida.

Iida had a pretty muscular and tall frame, metal pieces jutting out of his legs, and glasses neatly placed on his face, but most importantly, he had the same navy blue color in his hair that was on Izuku’s wrist. The freckled boy’s heart nearly leaped out of his chest when he realized that the tall boy could be his soulmate. He just had to muster up the courage to talk to the boy with glasses before he walked away. Midoriya nervously ran up to his possible soulmate, quickly tapping on his sleeve, and promptly had a panic attack. What if he made a bad first impression? What if his soulmate hated him? What if he screwed everything up?

“Yes?” The blue haired man politely spoke, pulling Izuku out of his thoughts and back into reality. “Oh! Hi. I, um, was wondering- your hair- it’s, um, blue.” Midoriya tripped over his words, internally face palming himself. “Yes, it is blue, and yours is a very dark green.” The man held his wrist out to the shorter boy. His wrist was colored with three colors, too, just like Izuku's, yet his colors were green, red, and white. “I’m assuming you have white red, and blue on your wrist.” The man put his hand out to shake. “My name is Tenya Iida. But please, call me Tenya.” Iida smiled.

Izuku awkwardly shook Tenya’s large hand, sweating into the larger man’s firm grip. Izuku pulled away, laughing nervously. “My name is Izuku Midoriya. You can call me Izuku, if you’d like.” He smiled sheepishly. “So… are we soulmates?” Iida nodded. “I believe so. Us two and a white haired man and red haired man.” Iida tapped his chin. “I suppose it could also be a man with red and white hair.” He said thoughtfully.

“This is… surprisingly underwhelming.” Izuku muttered. “Huh? A-am I not up to your standards?” Tenya asked in concern, instead of annoyance. “N-no! Just… I always dreamed of meeting my soulmate in some absurdly romantic way.” Midoriya sighed. “I guess, in reality, soulmates aren’t as amazing as they seem.”

“I see. You are not satisfied by the levels of glamour in our meeting.” Iida pushed his glasses up on his nose. “Well, Izuku, I can fix that! In the future, I will be sure to make everything as romantic as possible!” He declared. “No, no, no! You don’t have to do that for me!” Izuku said frantically, waving his hands in the air. “You’re my soulmate, Izuku. I’ll do anything for you.” Iida smiled, which made Izuku inexplicably happy.

Very soon after, Iida and Midoriya stumbled upon Shouto Todoroki, who they identified as the third part of their trio. Izuku and Shouto hit it off immediately, the green haired man enthusiastically blabbing about All Might, and the hot and cold hero intently listening. “In closure, All Might is so cool!” Izuku concluded, stars in his eyes. “I never disagreed.” Todoroki chuckled. “You two, I believe class is starting!” Iida informed his two soulmates. “As much as I love to listen to both of your voices, I believe we should quiet down.”

Midoriya knew the school year would be a good one, with Tenya and Shouto by his side.
