Work Text:
"So I know this is a weird request,” Taehyung breaks the silence in the broom closet. Jimin looks at him with an 'are you kidding me look' before lowering his gun and shifting closer to Taehyung.
“Can’t you wait until after we don’t get killed?” Jimin presses an ear against the door. They’d been in the closet for close to half an hour narrowly escaping death after they stole some files from the mainframe server of whatever company they were in. They were never given the full details. Go figure. They can risk their lives for a cause that they didn’t even know.
“Well I don’t know if I’ll ever see you again,” Taehyung begins, “Once we finish this job, we have to separate.”
Jimin freezes and puts a hand to his head. He only met Taehyung two weeks ago when their company hired them to work together as partners to figure out how to infiltrate this company. Taehyung was the brains and Jimin was the muscle.
“Jesus Tae, I’ll give you my number. Now can you shut up?” Jimin ruffles his own hair and sighs.
A loud beeping sound disturbs the silence in the apartment and Jimin rolls over with a groan. He checks his bedside clock and gives a louder groan when he sees that it’s 3AM. He's about to get up when a hand shoots out and wraps around his middle, pulling him back to a cozy bed and a warmer chest.
“Leave it,” the sleep deprived voice of his boyfriend mumbles into the back of his neck.
Jimin sighs and leans back into the warm body behind him.
“I thought you requested the day off.”
“I did, Tae,” Jimin grunts when the beeping sound breaks the silence again. He makes a motion of getting up but again his boyfriend pulls him back.
“I said leave it.”
Jimin can practically feel the pout on his boyfriend’s face. He turns around to face him and leaves a small kiss on Taehyung’s nose, smiling when the other wrinkles his nose in response.
“You know how work is; if I don’t answer they’ll come barging in any second,” Jimin gets up. Taehyung makes an annoyed voice as he turns to look blankly at the ceiling, trying not to show his obvious annoyance.
Jimin checks his pager and quickly puts on a silver metallic watch, “It’s Yoongi hyung.”
“It’s our three year anniversary today,” Taehyung was still looking at the ceiling but there was a hint of desperation in his voice, “Today is supposed to be about us. Not our jobs. No spies, no infiltrations or marks, no killing, no….”
Jimin quickly goes forward to place his forehead against Taehyung’s, “I know.”
Taehyung frowns, “We promised to stay in. You even bought all that food yesterday. We even stocked up on condoms!”
Jimin is about to open his mouth when his phone goes off. He gives Taehyung an apologetic look before opening his phone.
“Hyung, I told you I’m taking the day off,” Jimin begins but stops as Yoongi interrupts on the other line. Taehyung watches as Jimin pouts.
“Can’t you find someone else just for today?” Jimin asks but he was already on his way to the closet.
Taehyung struggles to sit up on the bed and shimmies to the edge of it, his legs hanging heavily over the side of the bed.
“I’m heading over now,” Jimin ends the call and turns to Taehyung with a sheepish look on his face, “I’ll try to get home as soon as possible.”
“Just go,” Taehyung struggles to get off the bed but Jimin immediately pushes him back down, “Just go back to sleep.”
“I want to walk you out….wheel you out. Whatever,” Taehyung struggles again but Jimin gently pushes him back down.
“Don’t go through the trouble; I’ll be back tonight.”
“I’m not completely disabled, Jimin! I just can’t walk. I want to say goodbye, god damn it! Who knows if this is the only time I’ll see you today.” Taehyung angrily crosses his arms in front of him.
Jimin silently nods and quickly picks his boyfriend up and gently puts him down in his wheelchair.
“Come back as soon as you can and try not to get killed,” Taehyung grabs Jimin to pull him down for a kiss.
“Love you too,” Jimin whispers before indulging Taehyung.
“I can’t believe I’m climbing up an elevator shaft when I should be in bed cuddling with Taehyung ON OUR THIRD YEAR ANNIVERSARY,” Jimin mutters as he continues climbing up the elevator cables, just a few feet under Hoseok, “Please explain to me one more time why I have to be the one on this mission when it’s supposed to be my day off?”
“There’s literally no one else, Park,” Yoongi’s gruff voice rang in Jimin’s ear. He could hear the soft tap of keyboard buttons.
“Kim Namjoon?” Jimin asks.
“Still recovering from the trauma of falling down that sewer hole,” Hoseok shivers.
“Jeon Jungkook? Wasn’t he the one who was supposed to be on this mission?”
“Too busy getting his ass fucked by Seokjin hyung. He’s probably not going on any missions for the next few days,” Yoongi sighs. Unfortunately this was definitely a normal occurrence.
“And don’t even ask about Seokjin hyung; you know the boss prefers to stay behind the desk these days.”
Jimin relents with an angry grunt. Of course the boss himself wouldn’t go on a small mission like this.
“Well look at the bright side, Park," Hoseok looks down at him from above, "Because you're with me it guarantees you wont’t have Yoongi in your ear telling you what an idiot you are,” Hoseok mumbles.
Jimin raises an eyebrow at Hoseok just as Yoongi gives a loud sigh, “You know I can hear you, right?
Hoseok didn’t look like he was going to answer so Jimin broke the silence, “Hyung, do you know how long this mission will be? Tae was angry at me when I left this morning. I promised to be home as soon as possible.”
“Jesus Jimin, we’re on a mission. Can you just shut up? I swear you’re becoming your boyfriend.”
“I just don’t get why I had to be here today of all days on MY THIRD YEAR ANNIVERSARY,” Jimin says loudly yet again, making Hoseok rest his head on the hands that were gripping the cable in front of him.
“Honestly man I would rather face a whole team of agents before hearing you say that one more time,” Hoseok grits his teeth.
There was silence as they climbed up a few more floors and then Hoseok started swinging on the cable.
“What are you doing? We have five more floors to go,” Jimin looked up to see Hoseok landing just on the elevator door ledge.
“Not anymore, we’ve been found,” Hoseok reaches up and takes out the vent cover of the nearest vent with ease.
“Are you kidding me? I thought this was a simple infiltration and extraction,” Jimin mirrors Hoseoks’ previous actions to land on the same ledge.
“They somehow found out I was hacking their surveillance cameras and now they sounded the silent alarm. The elevator shaft is going to be the first place they look, "Yoongi’s voice comes on in Jimin’s in-ear piece, “I guess their software is stronger than I initially gave them credit for. Huh.”
“That’s your problem. You always think you’re so much better than anyone else,” Hoseok murmured to Yoongi, "And then stuff like this happens."
“Wow looks who’s talking. Why do you think we always need to make sure you have a partner when you go on missions. It’s not because you need help but because you need a babysitter,” Yoongi’s voice was bitingly cold.
Hoseok shouts a remark back and begins to crawl into the vent, Jimin right behind him.
Hoseok shoots a glance over his shoulder, "How many bullets you got, Park?"
“This was supposed to be a simple extraction, hyung,” Jimin says through gritted teeth as he crawls behind Hoseok, who seemingly knew which way to go, “I only have one round.”
Jimin turns on his ear piece again, having turned it off when Yoongi and Hoseok started bickering earlier.
“Well let’s try not to get fucked,” Hoseok pauses and moves into a sitting position with his back against one of the walls.
“Why did you stop?” Jimin asks.
“We fucked up,” Hoseok tries to smile, “This is a dead end. The only way is down.”
“You mean down there where there are about a hundred people with guns trying to kill us? That kind of down?”
Hoseok nods. There’s a bright smile on his face. Jimin hates that; Hoseok always finds the most enjoyment when he’s faced with danger from all sides.
“Hyung,” Jimin’s voice was contained anger, “I have only one round of bullets.”
“We can wait it out and wait for Yoongi to figure out what to do?” Hoseok shrugs, but he’s already tightening the straps on his boots and checking his pockets. It didn’t matter what Jimin suggests, Hoseok wasn’t going to wait around in a vent. Jimin throws his head back against the side of the vent, “This is not how I should be spending my---“
“Your third year anniversary I swear to God, Park.”
Jimin was about to open his mouth to protest when he hears static in his ear piece.
“What is that?” Jimin readjusts his ear piece. Hoseok who had moved over towards the vent, shrugged at him.
“So this is what you’re doing on our anniversary? Getting yourself killed?”
Jimin freezes temporarily before a fake smile appears on his face, “What are you doing in my ear, sweetie? Shouldn’t you be at home? Playing overwatch perhaps?”
“Well someone has to save your ass,” Taehyung mutters through Jimin’s ear piece, “And who says I’m not playing Overwatch. I’m a great multitasker.”
“You should be at home resting, darling.” Jimin replies back sweetly. Hoseok mentions for him to get closer and together they lifted the vent.
“While you have all the fun trying not to get killed? Not a chance. Anyway, the sooner you’re home the faster we can celebrate, honey.”
Jimin can hear the smile in Taehyung’s voice and tries not to smile himself. They haven’t had one conventional anniversary or holiday since they got together. Oh they’ve tried but somehow there’s always some kind of mission that comes up or some bad guy that needs to be taken down.
Jimin watches as Hoseok jumps onto the floor with a soft thud and quickly disappears, not even waiting for him.
Jimin drops down onto the floor with ease and presses himself against the wall. Hoseok moves closer to him to whisper in his ear, “Yoongi says the cameras are still down. We’re on our own. I looked down the hallway and it’s pretty empty.”
“Do you remember the blue prints?” Jimin asks. He tries to remember the map he’d glanced over, “What’s the plan? Do we get out of here or finish the mission?”
“Definitely escape,” Taehyung says into Jimin’s ear.
“Finish the mission it is,” Jimin smiles at Hoseok.
“Do you do this just to annoy me? On our third anniversary? Can you even get in there unnoticed?”
“Don’t worry. We’ve done this a hundred times,” Jimin follows Hoseok who was jogging stealthily down the hallway, his gun in front of him.
Taehyung sighs, “Can you at least promise to come home in one piece?”
Jimin was about to answer when Hoseok pushes Jimin against the wall, flattening him against it, “There are two men heading this way. We’re going to keep this clean. Knock them out quickly.”
Jimin nods, his hands forming into fists, “You know I always do, sweetie.” He sees Hoseok hold up his fingers and slowly lower them one by one, counting down the seconds before they would be in front of him.
As soon as Hoseok drops his last finger, Jimin sees the men appear in their line of vision. Hoseok immediately jumps on the one farthest from them, sending a drop kick to the guy while Jimin grabs the other in a chokehold.
“Jimin?” Taehyung’s worried voice was in Jimin’s ear just as he drops the guy he was holding on to the ground.
Hoseok gives him a thumbs up and runs down the hallway, seemingly knowing the way.
“No damage done. Piece of cake, Tae. Don’t you trust me, love?” Jimin jogs leisurely behind Hoseok and frowns when Hoseok stops. Hoseok has a hand to his ear adjusting his ear piece. He can see Hoseok’s face go from tired to frustrated. He begins to argue with Yoongi through his ear piece in a contained volume.
“Babe, promise me we won’t be like them,” Jimin puts his back against the wall as he sees Hoseok breathe through his nose. He can practically hear Yoongi yelling and complaining in Hoseok’s ear.
Taehyung’s sweet laugh rings through Jimin’s ears and he doesn’t try to hold back his own smile. He had so many plans for today. He wanted to be back at home so bad with Taehyung.
“Not in a million years can we ever be like them. But babe, I have something for you when you come back----“
There’s a cackle of electricity and Taehyung’s voice is cut off and replaced with Yoongi’s frustrated voice, “Are you kidding me right now? I have enough to worry about with resisting this company’s hacking and now I have to worry about your fiancé hacking me too?”
Jimin laughs as he quickly catches up to Hoseok who was sleuthing down the hall, “He’s not my fiancé…yet.”
Even though communication with Taehyung was now cut off, he says, “I’ll be home soon, Tae.”
“Hide in this closet, Jimin. You’ll be fine, Jimin. Wait for me, Jimin. I’ll come back in a second, Jimin. Hoseok, you better not be dead,” Jimin mutters as he walks down the hallway with his gun leading the way,
“Splitting up is the best chance we have to live,” Jimin peeks around the corner before continuing to complain about his superior, “Says the guy who has a full round of bullets and more.”
Jimin checks that his ear piece is still on and sighs. Yoongi still had the connection to his ear piece turned off and Jimin was really judging his and Hoseok’s professionalism at this point. Hoseok had given him a ‘Good luck and try not to get killed,’ before sprinting off alone and Yoongi probably didn’t care if he died or not. He was blind. He didn’t know the layout of the building. Hoseok was the only one who knew the blue prints of the building inside and out and he was supposed to be with Jimin.
“I’m quitting as soon as I get out of here,” Jimin rounds another corner without looking this time. He spots an exit sign and is about to open the emergency exit door (screw the alarms) when he hears static in his earpiece.
“What the hell are you doing, Park. Don’t even think about it.”
Jimin sighs a breath of relief at hearing Yoongi’s angry voice in his ear, “Well welcome back, Yoongi. I thought you left me here to die while you go squabble with your not-boyfriend.”
“Don’t try to get smart on me, Park. I’m the one who’s going to get you through this.”
“Jimin!” Jimin looks up to see Hoseok running towards him with a USB drive in his hand. There’s an excited smile on his face and a spring in his step. He stops in front of Jimin and holds up the USB in front of his face, “Successful mission number 801! We’re out of here!” Without another word, Hoseok grabs him by the wrist and starts heading down the hallway.
“You did everything yourself. Why am I even here?” Jimin complains and he doesn't stop complaining the entire ride back to headquarters.
Jimin feels like a bag of shit as he stands outside his apartment door. There’s a huge bouquet of flowers in his hands but with one glance at his watch, he knows that there’s a slim chance his boyfriend is even awake.
It’s 2AM and their anniversary is officially over.
When Jimin walks into their apartment, his heart kind of breaks in his body. Standing right in front of the doorway is Taehyung sleeping in his wheelchair. Candles surround the wheel chair in the shape of a heart. Most of the candles are blown out illuminating half of Taehyung’s sleeping face. There’s a pot of ramen in Taehyung’s lap and the immediate guilt starts to build up even more because Taehyung probably got hungry waiting for him.
He drops the flowers onto the side table and slowly kneels in front of Taehyung’s wheel chair. He knows he should probably wake Taehyung up but he stays in front of Taehyung for a few moments enjoying Taehyung’s peaceful sleeping face.
Jimin places a light kiss on Taehyung’s forehead and then slowly wraps his arms around Taehyung’s body so he can lift him out of the wheelchair. He’s done this so many times that Taehyung barely even blinks. His boyfriend’s arms wind themselves around his neck and his nose nuzzles into Jimin’s neck.
“You’re late, Jiminnie.”
“I know TaeTae. But I’ll make it up to you. I promise,” Jimin kisses the top of Taehyung’s head and slowly makes his way to their bedroom.
He lays Taehyung down gently into their bed and quickly goes to change. Taehyung shifts in the bed.
“How did the mission go?”
As soon as Jimin drops his pants he falls onto all fours and craws over to Taehyung on the bed. Taehyung has a warm smile on his face and happiness in his eyes. There’s no anger or disappointment and Jimin feels relieved but even more guilty that he couldn’t have come home sooner.
“Don’t think bad stuff,” Taehyung throws his arms around Jimin’s neck and pulls him down on top of him.
“You really are the best you know that?” Jimin’s voice is soft and he pulls away just so he can look Taehyung in the face when he says those words.
Taehyung smiles back at him and quickly kisses Jimin’s nose, “Well aren’t you lucky to have me then.”
Jimin is nervous and slightly terrified that today won’t wind up as perfect as he’s dreamed it would be. He has the day off for real this time and he plans to have an activity filled day with his boyfriend to make up for the disaster that was yesterday. He was currently in the kitchen preparing breakfast. There were two flutes of home-made bellini sitting on the kitchen counter. He was humming a soft tune.
He was so focused on what he would say to Taehyung that he didn’t even hear the light footsteps come up behind him. Strong arms wrap around him from behind and without thinking Jimin assesses the situation in his head. Someone had broken in somehow.
He moves his foot back to hook onto the person standing behind him and pulls. At the same time he turns around with his arms reaching out to the person and catches them in a dip. His eyes widen when he sees Taehyung staring at him with a surprised look on his face.
“You still got the moves to sweep me off my feet, Park.”
“Tae, what the hell are you doing? How did you even get into the kitchen? Where’s your wheelchair?” Jimin picks Taehyung up in his strong arms and quickly moves to put him down on the couch. “Kim Taehyung, do you know how dangerous this is? I almost killed you just now!”
“Look at me,” Taehyung wraps his arms more tightly around his boyfriend's neck, “I’m fine. No bruises. You caught me before I could fall,” Taehyung smirks, “Even though I fell for you a long time ago.”
“That’s not funny, Tae,” Jimin’s eyebrows are knitted as he puts Taehyung down on the couch.
“Jiminie” Taehyung lands with a soft thud and he can barely say more before Jimin is walking towards their bedroom to get his wheelchair, “Don’t be upset.”
“I’m not upset, I’m just worried about you. You’re----“ Jimin wheels out Taehyung’s wheelchair but stops.
Taehyung is in the middle of their living room down on one knee with a ring in his hand.
“What’s going on ?”
“Park Jimin. The light of my life. My other half. My soulmate. Protector of my nipples and of my heart. I would take a bullet for you any day of my life. Life would be boring without me yelling instructions in your ear and me saving your damn ass from getting killed. I want to be your partner in crime and your partner in life. Will you marry -- -“
“Shut up.”
“What,” Taehyung blinks in confusion, “Are you interrupting my proposal?”
Jimin grabs one of the bellini’s on the table and fishes a ring from it.
Taehyung is speechless as he eyes the identical ring Jimin is holding in his hand. Jimin bends down in front of him and mirrors his exact position. His eyes are crescents and his smile is super wide.
“I really hate you for doing this first because now my proposal is just going to be worse compared to yours.”
Taehyung’s smile is so wide, “I’m pretty sure it can be the worse thing in the world and it will still be perfect to me.”
“Stop going cheesy on me. And please don’t laugh,” Jimin reaches behind him to grab a plate from the counter, “I was going to ask you if you wanted pancakes for breakfast.”
Taehyung’s smile faltered and his expression changed to confusion, “Pancakes?” Jimin gives him a pointed look. Taehyung shakes his head uncertainly, “You know I love pancakes.”
“Well I made these especially for you.” He pushes the plate forward and Taehyung grabs it uncertainly. A weak smile is plastered on his face. Jimin nods towards the plate and Taehyung looks down. On the pancakes written with chocolate chips are the words, 'Will you marry me?' It was sloppily drawn and definitely not perfect. Actually it looked like it was done by a toddler but it still stirred the same affect that Jimin wanted.
“And that’s when I was going to pull out the ring from the Bellini and give this whole spiel of how much you mean to me and----“
“Yes!” Taehyung tackles him to the ground in a huge hug and peppers his face with kisses.
“But I hate this,” Jimin groans, “You surprise me with a proposal and the fact you can walk again and I just make pancakes with almost illegible writing and propose using chocolate chips. Why am I so lame?”
“Why does everything have to be a competition with you?” Taehyung pulls back just enough so he can raise an eyebrow at his fiancé, “This isn’t lame. You know I love cheesy romantic stuff like this.”
Taehyung’s smile lights up something in Jimin’s heart and he pulls him forward into his arms so he can place the sloppiest kiss on his fiance’s lips.
“Kim Taehyung, from the moment I first saw you, I knew I would probably never be able to get rid of you.”
Taehyung pulls away to glare at him.
“I’ve never been so happy to be right.”
