Bring Your Son to Work Day (Gone Wrong)

“I’ll admit, I’m excited,” said Shinsou. He sat in a squatted position, perched on a roof beside his father. He’d been interning with Aizawa for a while, but this was the first time they were on someone’s trail.

“Don’t get too excited,” said Aizawa. “Be on your guard.” He removed his goggles, taking a moment to put in eyedrops. “We don’t know the villain’s Quirk, and that’s half our problem.”

Shinsou rolled his eyes, letting out a quiet huff. He understood that this was serious, but he couldn’t keep himself from being enthusiastic about going after his first villain, especially since he was by his father’s side.

“I know, dad,” he said.

Aizawa’s lips twitched up into a small smile. Shinsou had been his adopted son for only a few months, so being called dad still tugged at his heart strings.
He was ripped from the sweet moment when he heard scurrying down the alleyway. The two of them turned towards the source of the noise, and sure enough someone was on the run.

“Let’s go,” said Aizawa quietly.

Not wanting to waste time, Shinsou latched onto Aizawa, letting him use his capture weapon to pull them both in the direction of the villain. They dropped down  into the alley right in front of the villain, cutting off his route of escape. Aizawa moved quickly, using his capture weapon to immobilize the man.

“Now don’t make this difficult,” he said.

The villain sneered at him. “Don’t you think it’s a bit risky bringing a kid with you, Eraser?” He chuckled. “What makes you think I’m working alone.”

Aizawa could hear the footsteps rushing towards them. He whipped around, roundhouse kicking the second villain just in time.

“Careful!” he shouted to Shinsou. Taking hold of his capture weapon, he attempted to restrain the second villain. Uncertain of his Quirk, he thought it best to erase it.

That was when he realized that he couldn’t. The feeling in his body he got from activating his Quirk was nonexistent, and nothing happened to his hair.

“What?” he hissed.

The first villain began to laugh.

“You heroes are all such idiots,” he mocked.

The second villain began to grow in size, whilst his form was changing into something thinner and monstrous with an unhinged jaw and fangs.

“Eraserhead!” cried out Shinsou. Suddenly, he felt strange, like a tingle was going through his body.

Then, the snake-like villain reverted back to normal.

Aizawa didn’t hesitate. He quickly used his capture weapon to grab a hold of both villains, swinging them around and causing them collide into each other and knock them out.

“Are you okay, Hitoshi?” he asked, his tone wavering slightly.

“I’m fine,” insisted Shinsou. “But, what hap-?”

“Hitoshi?” Aizawa rushed to him, instantly frightened by his blank stare. “Hitoshi?” He shook his son by the shoulders, his heart pounding. Then it clicked. He knew that dead look. It was all too familiar.

“Shit.” He shook Shinsou further, this time harsher. “Come on. Snap out of it.”

A moment later, Shinsou blinked a few times, and he appeared groggy.

“What happened?” he asked.

“Well this is bad.”

***

Aizawa sauntered into the classroom Monday morning with utter begrudgement. The last thing he was in the mood to do was deal with was his students, especially since he no longer possessed the power to keep them all in line.

“Good morning, class,” he said as he tucked his sleeping bag away underneath his desk.

“Good morning, sensei.”

“Sensei!” shouted Ashido. “Is it true that you had a run in with a villain that swapped your Quirk with Shinsou?”

“Oh, yeah, I heard about that,” said Midoriya.

Iida stood straight up. “Sensei! Is this true? Are you alright? I did my best not to listen to rumors, but as class representative I have your best interest at heart as much as my fellow students!”

“I doubt it’s a rumor if it was heard directly from Mic sensei, which is what I heard,” said Kaminari. “And they’re married, so it’s probably true.”

“Enough!” snapped Aizawa.

They whole class fell quiet, but immediately erupted once again when they realized what happened. Aizawa’s eyes weren’t red, and his hair hadn’t moved. Erasure was gone.

“So it is true!” exclaimed Kirishima. “Shinsou, you have erasure?”

Shinsou groaned, folding his arms on his desk and hunkering down. He was about as keen as Aizawa was regarding attention.

“Yes,” he muttered. “Don’t ask me to use it, though. I don’t know how to control it, and Aizawa sensei doesn’t know how to control my Quirk either. It’s been a rough couple of days.”

“Is it ever going to go back to normal?” asked Sero. “If it’s already been a few days, that can’t be good.”

Midoriya made a sudden sound and then quickly began to dig through his bag. “I’ve studied Quirks like this!” He pulled out a notebook and flipped through until he found the correct page. “Here it is! Quirk swap Quirks! The most average time I’ve found has been one week of swapped Quirks. So, if it’s already been a few days, you should have much longer to wait before things revert to normal.”

“I hope so,” mumbled Shinsou.

“I’m sure it’ll be alright,” insisted Yaoyorozu gently. “I’ve heard of these cases too, but never have I heard that it was permanent.” She beamed. “In the meantime, it could give you both a learning opportunity.”

“Yeah!” Midoriya turned to face Shinsou, a bright smile on his face. “I’ll let you really get to be like your hero!”

“Quiet, you damn nerds! You’re wasting our period! Who gives a damn?” shouted Bakugo.

“Bakugo,” said Aizawa, “do you have anything else you’d like to say?”

“Yeah, I--”

Silence.

“Don’t have an outburst for the rest of class,” said Aizawa.

The class burst into laughter.
