Chapter Text

When Ochako thought about accompanying her boyfriend to hospital, she thought it would have something to do with Hero work. After all, she and Izuku are Pro Heroes and get minor injuries all the time, so the thought that a trip in an ambulance with Izuku would be caused by Hero work made perfect sense to her.

But… that isn’t what happens. When she ends up in an ambulance beside Izuku, the cause is something incredibly normal. And, in a way, that makes it scarier.

You might not expect it of a Pro Hero, but Izuku is a very clumsy person. He has dyspraxia, so it’s normal for him, but other people frequently wonder what is wrong when he stumbles and trips and writes messily. But other than the worry he might fall over and hurt himself, Ochako doesn’t have a problem with it.

But even though Izuku is clumsy and trips a lot, when he falls one morning… it’s as though she’s never seen him get hurt before. Because she’s never seen him get hurt like this.

When she is brushing her teeth, Ochako jumps when she hears a yelp, followed a second later by a loud thud. What the fuck was that?

The toothbrush sticking out of her mouth, Ochako dashes out of the bathroom. She runs onto the landing and stares down the stairs…

And…

“Shit!”

Izuku sprawls at the bottom of the stairs, his limbs flung out, blood tricking from his forehead and his eyes closed. Oh shit.

Her boyfriend fell down the stairs.

Toothbrush falling to the floor, Ochako dashes down the stairs and crouches down beside him.

“Izuku?” she says, voice trembling. She doesn’t want to touch him in case he’s hurt his spine, but Ochako stares at him. “Izuku, please wake up. Don’t die on me— Please. Deku!”

Trying to remember her first aid, Ochako leans over him and stares at his chest. Seeing it rise and fall nearly makes her sob with relief, but that isn’t enough. He’s still bleeding and unconscious and his wrist looks like it might be broken and…

“Deku?” she whispers.

Tears well up in her eyes and Ochako starts to sob. This can’t be happening. How can Pro Hero Deku be injured from falling down the stairs?

Wiping the tears away, Ochako reaches for her cell phone and calls for an ambulance. As she talks to the ambulance dispatcher, she strokes Izuku’s non-broken hand and fights back tears, longing him to be okay.

Twenty minutes later, she sits in an ambulance as they speed to hospital, staring at Izuku and the paramedics fussing over him.

Why is this happening?

Why Deku?

“He’ll be okay, won’t he?” she asks one of the paramedics, hoping they won’t recognise her as Uravity.

“We can’t tell at this stage, I’m afraid,” the paramedic says, and Ochako’s eyes sting.

She reaches across the ambulance and touches Izuku’s hand, staring at his closed eyes.

“Please, Deku,” she whispers, voice cracking. “Please be okay.”
